A lion shifter.

In a clan of shifters, the lions are considered most powerful and respected. Jace is headstrong, willful, has fun with women but doesn’t see the big rush to find a mate. His father lays it on the line: If he’s to head the clan one day, he needs to find his bride. He resents being told what to do.

A desperate hottie.

Gemma’s got her own set of problems, and saving Jace from a group that collects shifters for sport and research shouldn’t be one of those problems. So what made it her problem?

A mutual problem and raging hormones.

I struggled on the rating for this- 3 stars feels too nice and 2 stars feels too harsh. Because there’s nothing wrong as such with the book but it’s nothing special.

The Male MC is a lion shifter and a dick at the start, the story line is meh and has a bad instalove. But, there’s nothing overly bad about it.

I was going to put this in 3 stars but when I think about it against other books I’ve gave 3 stars, it doesn’t match their level. 2 stars it is.

Nope, way too fast, not enough character/ relationship development and i want to read a story about a woman who has more "balls" than that...

This is an ok short story & it had some slight hiccups with editing. Plot was a bit predictable, with some scenes that seemed wasted or rushed. The flow was ok, not very fast paced. Big gripe, goodreads says it’s 111 pages, but it ends at 81% (that’s about 89 pages) with the remainder leading into the next book in the series. That sort of thing really bugs me, gives the impression it’s not a short story. I don’t normally bother with short stories, they aren’t developed enough for my taste. I did like Gemma, she seemed more genuine, Jace was ok, there were too many oddities about him for me to really like him very much (really being in his seventies, but says he’s 25, felt he acted more like a immature 17 year old).

I downloaded Jace as a free novella from Amazon. A simple story, a basic plot, average characters, but it worked well for this short story. Lots of continuity errors. For example, Jace says he is 25 years old, as that what he looks like, even though he's 70. In another scene, Gemma mentions he doesn't act like a 70-year old (but we know she thinks he's 25). A sex scene was ovbiously cut and pasted, as we have them engaged in intercourse, then he's back to takoing off her clothes. A good editor, and a proofreader would have caught these obiosue sequence errors that pulled me out of the reading when I had to go back to reread portions I thought I'd misread before. Sloppy work.

Okay story

This was an okay story but could use another going over by an editor. There are misspellings and disjointed places where the story doesn't quite mesh. I would read this author again though and her next story looks promising. I just hope that the editing improves in the next story.

This is the first book I have read from this author. I love shifter books and love reading how each author brings their own interesting twist to their own books.

Jace was a lion shifter. Now I have to say out of all the shifters lions usually fall fourth on my favorite list. Yes, I have a list. Jace was to take his father’s place of running the clan. Now Jace was more of a playboy. The last thing on his mind was to find a mate. This did not make is father happy.

I found it interesting that in his story the shifters did not hide in the shadows. Everyone pretty much knew about shifters, expect Gemma. Oh, Gemma knew they existed but did not know much about them. She was on the naive side of things. I guess it was fate that caused her to let her friends talk her into going to that shifter club that night. If she would of never gone she might not ever ever met Jace. Of course the events might of never played out the way they did either.

There was something called Collectors that sometimes used hunters to capture shifters. Gemma and Jace will find themselves in some series danger. Gemma is scared and has some important decisions to make. I have to wonder if I was put in the position she was put in what would I of done.

I found Jace’s father stern but fair. I could really tell reading this book that he loved Jace with all his heart. Jace’s father has so much on his shoulder and to have the danger of his son put in the mix had to weigh heavy on him. I truly loved his dad even though his dad holds the lives of so many in his hands.

This was a good book and glad I got a chance to read it.

I considered giving this 3 stars, but then I thought better. I was screaming "WHY, WHY on earth would someone do that?!!!" Every two pages or so. The "hunters" were taken straight out of a Home Alone movie. Remarkably stupid for someone that makes a living out of hunting and capturing shifters not to expect one to actually shift! And to hunt someone who turns into a lion with nothing but a net? Also, Why did they need the girl again? If they could so easily get information on her, couldn't they do the same with Jace? And if they followed Gemma to his house, that means they knew where Jace lives, so why harass her?
And why, oh why, would the clan Let ALL the "hunters" go, when they are obviously a threat to them? Jace's father is supposed to be the leader of all shifters in the country, and he doesn't give a fuck about the "hunters" hurting other shifters? They had them! Why not turn them to the police? Sure, they mention they don't bother with "human justice", implying they kill hunters, but they never pursue any of the assholes who attacked Jace. Jace doesn't kill them because he doesn't want Gemma to see, but I doubt the rest would give a fuck about her feelings, specially since no one knew she was his mate (not even Jace, at this point). They thought she was working for the Collector, for chrissake!!! And the way the whole mate business Is handled... Never felt like it made sense, and two pages before the end (after she accepts to marry him BECAUSE IT WAS THAT OR DIE!!!!), She's just OK with It. WTF! Run, Gemma, RUN!

As Heir to his fathers position as head of all the shifters in the country Jaceis being pushed to find a mate. Jace is in no hurry to do that though, he likes to take home a different girl whenever the desire hits him which is most of the time.. But when he catches sight of a beauty on the dance floor, everything around him dims and he questions his strange desrire which has nothing to do with lust...But there is danger surrounding this beauty, danger that can be deadly.

Gemma relents and goes to a shifter club with her besties, she's never been around shifters and feels out of place. She decides to leave early when she catches sight of a hunk accross the dance floor, she doesn't know if she feels danger from him, or from her reaction to him. Little does she realize that there is a worse danger waiting for her outside. A danger she is saved from by the hunk that was staring at her in the club, but is she really saved from them?

The characters in this story act very immature for their ages in the storyline, which is why I gave it 3 stars. It would have been much better if they were more mature.

Gemma is used as a bait and lure

Jace, the main character of this book, didn't appeal to me. After I read about 1/2 of the book, I started to think he might be okay. He was a player at the beginning and didn't seem to care about anything but himself. Even when he met Gemma and saved her, he only thought about getting in her pants.
Gemma on the other hand cared about everyone, especially her sick sister. The hunters who worked for a Collector (collected shifters for varies inhumane things) used her sister to try to get her to lure Jace into a trap.

I have read the "Dragon heartbeat" series and loved it so I thought I would give some of the authors other books a try. I will probably try the second book because of different personalities of characters. I personally didn't care for this book but that doesn't mean it wasn't well written.

Wow where do I begin with this review for this fabulous book. The story line for this story was amazingly put together and the characters really the book really entertaining. Ava Benton is a phenomenal author and this is another example of her brilliant work.

Fast Paced!

This book was pretty good because of the good vs bad plot. Other than that it felt pretty rushed in the story to get to the finish line.

Jace’s father has been on him to find a mate & stop being a playboy. Jace sees Gemma 1 night at a bar & has been obsessed with her ever since but, he didn’t get her # or her address.

Gemma went out to a bar with her girlfriends 1 night & a shifter, Jace came to her rescue with 2 thugs. & Jace has been on her mind since then.

After they meet up with each other again, their romance flies & to becomes rushed. With that being said I might not read the rest of the series.

Terrific book about a shifter/ human Romance

Jace is a lion shifter , who is to be the next leader of his clan. He meets Gemma, who's never met a shifter before.

Gemma is needs money for her sister who has cancer and might be forced to consider betraying Jace to the hunters that are going to give him to a Collector.

The characters are interesting. Intriguing plot makes this book an enjoyable read. I would recommend this book to my friends and family.

Help

A cute love story, with awesome shifters, beautiful human girl, and evil hunters. Their emotions jump off the page as you read, you feel their surprise, terror, fears, anguish, and the beginning of love. There is action, suspense, and betrayal as she struggles to do what is right. How will she survive if something happens to her sister or Jace? What can she do? Read and see, a surprise waits at the end!

Entertaining

Cute shifter story about meeting your mate yet she's never had contact with shifters before, even though they are known of.
This story includes a love story as well as some bad guy's, the collectors, and those trying to capture a particular shifter.
Well written self-contained story.

It's a great book, hot and sexy!

Jace is one sexy lion that could roar at me anytime. The action starts out in the first chapter, followed with the drama wrapped in a pretty package named Gemma. A series with a punch.

Okay read

This was a okay read. The girl was rather old fashioned "save me" sort which girls normally arent like these days. I thought the fact that Jace was a typical young guy going out partying etc was good. His dad was good too🤣

The story is simple and predictable. The writing is so simple that even someone with minimum reading skill can read it - it's a shame because I like the author.
I am not impressed with this work though.

Fun, fast paced story of a lion shifter and a human. Good storyline, felt as though i got to know the characters who were likeable. Needs more editing, though.
