Beaches, sun, and swimming was what Whitney thought she’d get when she moved all the way across the country to the Atlantic Coast. It was a chance to start over, a fresh start outside the paranormal night human world she grew up in. She was ready to be a normal human; one who didn’t have to worry about drinking blood or all the fighting that went on in that world. Perfectionist Sam did everything well. He protected his family and friends as he swore he would. He had jobs to help everyone survive while they hid in plain sight. He even taught swimming lessons. His life was perfect, at least until Whitney showed up in his town. Without thinking of the consequences, Sam makes a choice to follow his heart for a change. That choice changes everything, maybe for better or for worse. After one year of getting used to her new reality, Whitney discovers that maybe she was never meant to leave the night human world after all. Deciding to take swimming lessons, she is paired with high school hottie, Prince Sam as her friends called him. That one decision changes her life, and she’s quickly thrown right back into the night human world she thought she was getting away from. The only question Can she survive going back?

This book is the start the fourth series set in this world. As usual it is fantastically written, the story flowing effortlessly from one scene to the next. I have read everything from this author and I cannot wait for more! I highly recommend anything by her!! <3
Water and Blood (The Merworld Trilogy Book 1) by B. Kristin McMichael B. Kristin McMichael is off to another incredible series with the first book in The Merworld Trilogy, WATER AND BLOOD. I loved this book. My heart broke for Whitney at the end of the Skinwalkers Witchling Series. I was so glad her story continued. After being attacked by a witch and having her skinwalker abilities striped from her, she moved to Florida to live with her human relatives and start a new life. However, after meeting fellow student, Sam, she is thrown back into the night human world. B. Kristin McMichael has wonderful imagination. She once again created another magical tale. I loved the plot. I thought it was clever how Sam and Whitney meet. I’m a certified scuba diver, so I appreciated the concept of sirens. Whenever I dive I feel like I am one with the fish, so it made it easy to visualize what it would be like in the water. I like the history of the sirens/mermaids and how they are no longer supposed to exist. Prior to reading this book, I already liked Whitney’s character. She has never felt like she fit in. She is a good person and friend. She is smart, persistent, and brave. Sam is a great hero. He is a siren prince. He has such a better personality then his siblings. He is a smart leader. I like that he stands up for himself and Whitney. Whitney and Sam have great chemistry. I love that they met briefly in Washington State when they were kids. Amber and Sam’s brother, Tim, caused some interesting conflicts in the story. Amber is selfish. Tim is evil. They both added to the excitement of the story. B. Kristin McMichael is an amazing writer. I have enjoyed every book that I have read by her. Her stories flow skilfully. Her characters are well developed. They contain mystery, action, and drama. Her stories are creative and original. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the trilogy. I am interested in how the story will play out. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
After losing her parents are murdered Whitney is forced to live with her aunt and cousin but they don't really notice what she's up to. She's been taking swimming lessons with Sam one of the instructors that's she had a crush on for over a year. When a swimming lesson goes south quickly Sam is forced to give her a little of his blood so that she doesn't die, but he didn't know it would turn Whitney into a mermaid also.
Whitney thinks she knows why she was transformed into a mermaid because she wasn't always a day human. After losing her parents she also loses her skinwalker ability, turning her into the day human everyone suspects. She has lots of questions and hopes that Sam will have the answer to them all. Only he's determined to keep her a secret from his fellow sirens in order to protect her life.
I like Whitney a lot, she's sweet but she can take care of herself and accepts the transformation of her fishie tail. I wasn't sure about Sam at first because he's keeping the truth about her a secret. However, as the book progresses it's clear that they are meant to be together and need each other. I like the sweet chemistry between the two it's a clean romance with a little biting and whole lot of tails.
I've had this one on my kindle for a while because of the cover is just so pretty. Water and Blood is a fast paced action packed sweet romance that captures the heart as well as the imagination. The concept for the mermaids is interesting the way the author has created two different kinds based on tail color and magical power plus they all drink blood. The characters are great I really felt like I connected to both Whitney and Sam as the author uses an alternating style. I enjoyed the author's writing style it flows from start to finish, it's easy to get lost in the story and hard to put down. I highly recommend checking it out because it's a new twist on the mermaid idea.
This was a good story. I enjoyed the characters and the innocence. I was mad at Sam for a little while for keeping her ignorance. Overall a good beginning.

Lately I have been on a Mermaid kick and wanting to read everything that surrounds the creatures that are often found in myths and fairy-tales. This story was not the little mermaid I grew up with! The story is both sweet and dark and shows mermaids to be a bit… dark is the only word that comes to mind. I have to admit this is the first book I have read by the author and I read it all in one day.
McMicheal is able to create a world so dark and realistic that the reader can not help but be sucked in. This story seems to be a spin-off from another series but other than being a bit confused as to what a Night Human was for a couple of pages I was easily able to find my way through the story.
The chemistry between Whitney and Sam from the very beginning makes for a very complex and rocky story line. The read is left rooting for them to just kiss already! The story itself had everything needed for a good paranormal romance the popular girl, the mean older brother and two star-crossed lovers!
I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good YA Romance with paranormal elements.
B. Kristin McMichael has created such a unique and intriguing world with Water and Blood!
Whitney grew up in the night human world as a skinwalker, but was cast out to live with her aunt when she lost her shifting abilities. As an outcast her entire life, she feels like she'll never truly fit in, but starts to enjoy living in the day human world among other day humans. After a year as a normal human, her world is turned upside down yet again and she's forced into a night human world she was taught to believe was extinct.
Water and Blood has strong main characters in Whitney and Sam, and I LOVE the alternating narratives from the two. My favorite books have MCs with strength, stubbornness, and compassion. This is obviously one of my new favorites and it will be yours, too. Excuse me while I start book 2, Songs and Fins, immediately.
First of all, thanks to Fiction Atlas for the review copy!
It's been a very long time since I read a mermaid novel. Water And Blood was therefore much appreciated and refreshing.
I loved that it wasn't all pink and purple, all magical and fairytale-ish. I don't really enjoy those kind of books.
I loved Whitney's sass and her million questions. I loved that Sam was a good guy, unlike his people. I especially loved that the characters were well written.
"She was sitting in the shower with the hot guy she had a crush on, and he was offering to feed her blood. Yep, it had to be Alternate Universe Day." -Whitney.
My most favorite part though, was the ending. It was well written and perfect. The perfect ending I could've asked for.
Water And Blood has sarcasm, wit, love, the usual 'problem' and an extremely well devised 'solution'. To sum it up, it's a perfect package.
For this book being under 200 pages, it was pretty fleshed out. I'm pleasantly surprised. I lime Whitney, a lot! She is spunky and fun and clever. It's weird how the whole night and day human works. And I was really confused how Whitney is supposed to be a day when she knows so much about night. Though, it did get explained. The whole Siren world is pretty odd and I really hope the other books delve into more detail. I do like Sam. And it's so weird that they had met so long ago. Whitney needs to tell him. I think it's absolutely adorable. I hate Tim and amber and the friends that betrayed Sam. I really hope that both Whitney and Sam dish out what those traitors desever. I'm not sure what to feel about his dad but I adore his mom so far.
I really can't get enough of B. Kristin McMichael. She writes books that literally everyone can read. The are clean, wholesome, wonderful books. Water and Blood is no different. This is Whitney's story from the Skinwalkers Witchling trilogy. I loved everything about this book. I couldn't put it down, and when I did I was constantly thinking about it. If you haven't read any of B. Kristin McMichael's work, you need to!
I enjoyed the authors other books but this one was a missed for me. It felt like the audience target for this book was for the very young. Felt no connections to the characters. The writing style was more about telling the readers step by step on what is happening to the story next instead of showing them with emotions. Too cheesy and narrative. Couldn't finish. Really wanted to like this book but I guess I am not the right age. A wasted money for sure.
Check out my reviews for the previous books in the series to know how I felt about this one. So far, I will never have complaints for any of the books in this series! They honestly are getting better and better!
Mostly what you would expect from a mermaid book. It has some twists, and some history in previous “night human” series. So while this book is “mermaid” themed, there is apparently a lot of other supernatural beings in the background that we should know about.
Man the night human world has no chill whatsoever. None of our MC's has had a decent intro to this world XD I liked this though can't wait for the next one... Tim is a stuck up spoiled jealous jerk
Another fun trip into Nighwalker land. Looking forward to the rest of the story. Want Very much to see Tim either find a love that turns him head over tail, or barring that see him get his comeuppance.
I love mermaid stories and I was not disappointed with Water and Blood. The story is fast paced and very imaginative with wonderful characters. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. This is a great book for young readers as well as adults. I highly recommend this book.
I had no idea mermaids and vampires could go together so well! I am beyond impressed with this book. I can't wait til the others come out! I am so excited to see what happens with Whitney and Sam!
Found this one a bit hard to get into at first, but once you get past that first chapter, it was hard to put down. Can't wait for the next book to continue this story.
I HAVE READ ALL THE BOOKS IN THIS SERIES THAT HAS BEEN PRINTED. CAN'T WAIT UNTIL WHEN "SCALES & LEGENDS" COME OUT. B. KRISTIN McMICHAEL IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS. JUST LOVE HER BOOKS.
I received this copy voluntarily and have decided to give an honest review.
So I have read every spinoff of this world since Legend of the Blue Eyes and while I LOVED most, sometimes they weren't my favorite, but Water and Blood was definitely what I needed to revamp my love of the night human/day human (not siren) world.
Whitney was a pretty good solid character during the Skinwalker Apprentice trilogy, but she didn't completely stand out to me like the main characters did. In Water and Blood though, she completely came into her own and I LOVED Whitney in this book.
I loved Sam, I loved the Merworld hierarchy and how Whitney will play into it. It was all so exciting and new and I almost forgot it was a spinoff, it was that refreshing!
B. Kristin caught me by surprise when she ended it, because I totally thought I had another 20% left in the book....thankfully I already have book 2 and don't have to wait!
LOVED it. LOVED Sam and Whitney, I can't wait to read more.
I absolutely loved it! I admit I was a bit confused when I was reading about day humans and night humans...when some of them aren't really human at all, but I still liked it. only thing I didn't like is the Mer have to drink blood from time to time. Whitney is your average teenage girl in high school in Florida and crushing on one of the hottest guys in school. I was pulled into the story from the start. I loved that Whitney is so different from the rest, and hope to find out why she is in the next book. Has good secondary characters too that could use a bit more lighting on them. I like secondary. This novel was very well written, and a very smooth read. 5 stars!!
