A Bear Called Paddington: An Omnibus Including: A Bear Called Paddington, More About Paddington, Paddington Helps Out, Paddington at Large, Paddington Marches On
It is these words, written on the label round his neck, which make the Brown family decide to take the small brown bear home with them. They meet him on Paddington Station; he had travelled by himself all the way from Peru, with only a jar of his favourite marmalade to keep him going. The Browns soon find that life with their little friend is going to be very unusual indeed!
Now for the first time, five novels about the adventures of Paddington are published together in this delightful omnibus.
Charming, enterprising, and always fun, this lovable, trouble-prone bear has friends in many countries and this unique edition will no doubt win him many more.
Michael Bond, CBE was an English children's author. He was the creator of Paddington Bear and wrote about the adventures of a guinea pig named Olga da Polga, as well as the animated BBC TV series The Herbs. Bond also wrote culinary mystery stories for adults featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his faithful bloodhound, Pommes Frites.
I cannot give this enough stars. This was a book that I discovered with my children, I had never read the original books that began publication in 1958. They really are the most perfect books, that we have laughed out loud, cried at how touching the Christmas chapters are. Paddington is the perfect toddler, who gets into all sorts of mishaps, but always comes out on top, and never means any harm. He is simply “a bear things happen to.” We have read these chapters over and over, laughing every time. I only wish that our family, and every family had a Mrs. Bird, that we were all as loving as Mrs. Brown, as industrious as Jonathon, as discerning and curious and interested and as grateful as Paddington...we find a small bit of each of ourselves in each of these characters, and they help us appreciate every part of our lives. This is an absolute favorite. He’ll have you crying tears of laughter from the very first chapter when he steps in his own cup of tea.
We have finally finished this book after what felt like forever, although felt even longer to hubby. 😄😄😄 We have been reading a chapter of this a night as bubz is obsessed with Paddington as I was as a wee girl so naturally had to pass the book my Mum read to me along to him. I asked him to rate this and he said "he would give it 5 stars as he liked the part where Paddington wiped marmalade on the walls." 😐🙈
Michael Bond has been making children laugh for generations now. The antics of this beloved bear from Darkest Peru create mayham for the Browns--a sensible British family--who have adopted Paddington as one of their own. All the favorite players and Paddington's bumbling but loveable character are here in this omnibus. If you want it all in one big volume, this is the book for you!
Paddington is obviously a classic children's book. It's a lovely story about a bear who just can't help but get into trouble. I think it's a nice story, but might be a bit old fashined for children now.
Este compendio comprende 5 libros de Paddington, cada uno con pequeñas historias ideales para leer con los niños antes de dormir. Es un libro, fácil de leer, tierno y divertido.
British to the core, highly entertaining yet full of stability & peace of mind, a real bibliotherapeutic gem of children's literature, absolutely recommended for adults as well. Five stars.
This was an epic bedtime read. Kiddo loved Paddington's antics and enjoyed learning new words and expressions. Bonus points for so few pictures, encouraging imagination and relaxing into sleep.
