I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

Can't wait to see what will happen next!

If you are looking for a paranormal and urban fantasy book that is packed with action and unexpected turns that will have your jaw dropping then give this book a try.

Mel is a tracker, and she finds people for a living. She has been hired to find someone but finds out the case is much more than just finding someone, but regardless she won't give up. Being the stubborn natured person she is she will put someone else's life ahead of her own; while in ways this may seem like a good thing it seems to be taking a toll on her, so she needs to figure out why, but has to do that while saving others lives too. What she finds is something she wasn't expecting, something nobody would have expected.

Mel is a stubborn strong female lead that defies the odds of anything. She makes it work no matter what. She doesn't give up, and she doesn't put up with anything. She is a no nonsense girl that can empower others to be just as tough as her.

This book kept me very entertained. There were those moments when I was actually dropping my jaw because I didn't expect what was happening to happen, but that is what made the book that much better, because it was unpredictable. I don't know about anyone else, but I like some good twists and turns in books I read.

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes without a doubt in my mind!
Would I read more books in the series? You bet! I can't wait to read book 3!
What could have made the book better? Well nothing actually, because I loved the book! 5 golden stars! If I could give this book more stars I would, because it is beautifully written.

This book does contain brutal scenes as it does end up in demon territory. There is one scene in particular that some might call gore, therefore I would recommend this book to people 17 and up. There also is a few cuss words in the book.

I received this ARC book for free from the author which had no influence on this review. I was under no obligation to provide a review. I voluntarily chose to review this book.

Demon Kin

A great continuation that leads to some dark and disturbing twists. I enjoyed the fast-pace and constant action.
I liked how the story dove a tad deeper into the characters and how all these unexpected things kept popping up keeping me on my toes.
I look forward to reading the next book.

Demon Kin is a fast paced adventure full of mystery, murder, action, secrets, and slight romance. As far as sequels go, Demon Kin surpasses Blood Magic in being able to engross and thrill you quickly and right from the start. Now that we know about the world and the characters, what drives them and how much we care for them, it is much easier for the story line to focus on the action and mystery of cases and work and the paranormal surrounding Mel. So while the first book was not as fast paced, thrilling, or action packed because we were learning about the characters, their pasts, and their motivations, the second book is much more focused on bringing that fear factor, of getting us involved in cases and motivating us readers to be detectives. I was hooked from the beginning and could hardly put it down until I read the last page!

Mel has grown a fair bit in this installment. She becomes aware of lurking threats and time lines, weakening powers, evil enemies and the lengths they go to survive, as well as information about a missing person she still has not stopped searching for. Through it all she is resilient, strong, and she knows when she needs to back down and listen and when she needs to fight. Mel has a big mouth that gets her in trouble and has gotten her enemies, but even so she laughs in their face and never shows her fear. She has her flaws though, such as not knowing when to stop, of always trying to help everyone and taking too much responsibility, and of staying quite when she needs her friends for something personal. She may have grown, but she still has a long way to go.

We get even less of Salem in Demon Kin, unfortunately. What we do see of him is groping, worry over his mother, the fact that he doesn't really take care of himself because he is so worried, and anger to those he allowed to dupe him. Even this we see little of though. Whenever he is in a scene, someone or something bigger is going on, so the story doesn't focus on him. I will admit, that is slightly disappointing. But since we don't know much about his character to begin with, it doesn't affect the story in any way and his absence is hardly noticed. This does mean he hasn't grown, or at least we haven't seen it, so it will be difficult to connect with him in further books.

The world-building is growing with the story, thankfully. We see more of the two paranormal leading groups, how they operate (and what they do in secret), as well as what they are willing to do to learn more about what is best left alone. We also see more of what the realms can throw out into the human world, what they are capable of, and how to defeat them. If they can be defeated, that is. The more the story grows, the more we get hints of the world's complexity and what could be in store for the characters. Hopefully this continues to grow!

Overall, Demon Kin is action packed and quick to read, something everyone could enjoy!

In this instalment we meet up again with Mel Morgan, Master Teleporter and finder of lost people and things. When a super rich businessman hires Mel to find his missing daughter, things go from bad to very very much worse so fast you would have missed it if you blinked. People are dying left and right, cases are piling up and friends are in need of her aid.

With the help of her trusted gargoyle partner, her hacker friend and a white witch, will she be able to crack the case and save the Santiani family in time? Or will she draw the short straw and fail her case?

My take on the book:
Yes yes yes! This book was (in my honest opinion) a lot better than the first! I'm so happy! :-)
It was easy to read, well written and the flow was good. Some mistakes here or there but nothing that bothered me too much.

The book started out reasonably calm, but once it got going it didn't really stop. No wonder Mel is getting nosebleeds all over the place! :-)
Where there was a lack of character development in the first book, this one made up for it, staying focussed on Mel and Drake as the most 'fleshed out' characters. It was actually nice to read a bit more about Drake and his history, getting to know him better (here is to hoping we get to read more of his story later on!)

While I'm reading this series first, parts of it are crossing over into the SkinWalker series. I'm not sure which is the correct reading order... but apart from me knowing some of the characters from the other books, I feel it doesn't matter as it doesn't break or take away from the story.

What I didn't like:
Mel seems to be the type that would sacrifice a lot (pretty much everything) for her cases. You'd think that her condition would make her want to sort that out first, I mean.. all the nosebleeds, the passing out, ... ! But nooooo... with seemingly little regard to her own health she continues on, jumping all over the place. While this is inherent to the character, it does bother me. Bad Mel!

What I liked:
The twists and turns and unexpected revelations. With its fast pacing, the book really is able to keep you on your toes throughout.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, hoping that in the next book Mel really does straighten out her act and gets herself sorted. Oh and more Saleem please :D

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Soul Tracker Mel Morgan can find almost anyone almost anywhere. Something of an anomaly in the paranormal world, Mel can use the DNA material of a lost person to track their ‘threads’ and pinpoint their location, be it on the earthly plane or some other dimension. Mel’s gifts of astral projection and ‘jumping’ allow her to rescue people from peril and return them to safety. Tracking has become a career for Mel and her roommate assistants and she’s the best in the biz. Much to the puzzlement of Detective Fulbright, Mel typically succeeds where local law enforcement has failed. So when local police fail to produce meaningful leads on a local teen, Mel is hired by the teen’s tycoon father to find answers.
I quite like this series and its cast of characters. The storytelling is colourful and imaginative. I like how Ayer uses a few conventions of horror in this particular installment. There were a couple moments I found myself actually shuddering. I enjoy the more thrilling aspects of the story and the fast-paced action. Ayer also tosses in a little romance, though the relationship between Mel and Saleem, a djinn turned police detective, has yet to be fully realized.
My major criticism of this book is a plot that can be best described as frantic. There are no fewer than three storylines unfolding in this book in addition to the Mel’s current case. In defence of Ayer, this book is a spinoff to a larger series that I have not read. As such, I was confused by the shifter kidnapping subplot. Additionally, Saleem’s family troubles continue to slowly develop in the background. Add to this Mel’s own failing health, and abject instance to soldier on at all costs, the mysterious disappearances of her sister Ari and mentor Samuel, and the pace is almost too much. I really liked the main storyline. It’s creative, eerie, and horrific. It definitely had enough substance to carry the book without some of the extras. Simplification would have improved this book.

Received ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good second installment for the SoulTracker series. I'm not sure if it's because this was an ARC or what. But it had lots of spelling and wording mistakes. Hopefully it was fixed when the book was released. I liked how it started out. And how the author re ran through events that happened in the first book. It was perfectly done. I'm still getting used to the detective type of theme. Really don't read much about investigations and things like that. But the book also includes Mel's sense of humor. Not a lot of romance either. I'm still wondering what Saleem's character is here for. Mel seems to like him a lot but nothing much happens between them and Saleem isn't even around half the book. Way to go for not making the best friend secretly love the other. Lol. I kept waiting for Drake to admit he has feeling for Mel...but that's not happening. Good and different. I like it. This book Mel ends up taking on a lot of jobs...and ends up finding out her post jumping nose bleeds are caused by something far more sinister than over doing it.

This is the second book in the SoulTracker series, and there is a lot going on! I'm not going into detail - I hate spoilers, and you can get enough of an idea from the blurb above to tempt you into the story - but I liked the way that the author wove together the different storylines. The only slight criticism I would have would be that the obvious crossover between storylines from other book series in the Darkworld Universe made me wonder if I was reading them in the right order, as it was a little confusing (having read the Skinwalker series, this book took a HUGE step back in that storyline!!), so maybe some kind of reading order list for all the books would help. That and wanting to shake Mel sometimes for being so stubborn and negative were the only negatives though, and otherwise it's an excellent book, and I'd definitely recommend it to all fans of the series, and I'm looking forward to reading more stories to find out what happens next for all the characters.
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

Overall, a good book.

There were a few places where there were "jumps" between what had been revealed, and what was supposed to have been revealed prior to then, but I was able to follow the story.

This book continues the story of Mel, who can "travel" through the ethereal plane, and basically teleport herself and others. She uses the ability to help fine lost people, both for pay and for friends. However, travelling takes a toll on her body. In this book, we find out that might not be the only thing causing her body to have issues with travelling. Hopefully, the next book will go further into that.

The story includes djinn, gargoyles, demons, shapeshifters, wraiths, witches, and "the evil government/company/organization", as well as the occasional "unknown" nonhuman.

Demon Kin (DarkWorld: A Soul Tracker Novel Book 2)

Mel is amazing in this book, she takes on cases that the police cannot close. I love the crew she works with, I also enjoyed reading Kai, Logan Lily and Ivy in this book from SkinWalker, I enjoyed that series so much. I am glad I read that series 1st.

This book was great so many twists and turns, I really thought I knew how things were going to go from the beginning, but I should of known that there was going to be a great twist in the end because everything isn't always as it seems.... Especially with this amazing author!!! I just love her :-)

Definitely recommend her books 📚

Brilliant storyline

This is the second book in the SoulTracker series, I’m not going to give any spoilers, but you can get enough of an idea from the intro to tempt you into the story.
I liked the way that the author wove together the different storylines. The only slight criticism I would have would be that the crossover between the Darkworld Universe seems to be way behind in timescale as in the Skinwalker series, some kind of reading order list for all the books would help. This is an excellent book and I'd definitely recommend it to all fans of the series, and I'm looking forward to reading more stories to find out what happens next for all the characters.

In this second outing with Mel Morgan we're treated to a nice mystery as a wealthy man who recently lost his wife hires Mel to find his missing daughter. There are a number of nice twists and turns without the mystery ever becoming too overwrought or confusing and in the end the pieces fit together well.

But that mystery is hardly the only thing going on in this book. We check in on Saleem's search for his mother, get more info on Mel's hope of one day finding her sister, a new conundrum for Mel to figure out and some solid character development. Oh, and we also get a substantial visit from Kai Odell the panther shifter from Ayer's other series set in her Dark World universe. Don't worry, though, she provides enough information about what's happening in Kai's story to make sense of what's going on even if you aren't reading that series as well - without overloading those who are with info they already know.

If, however, you are reading both the Soul Tracker and Skinwalker series, be sure to read the first three books in Skinwalkers (Skin Deep, Lost Soul, and Last Chance) *before* reading this book as it contains several spoilers for Last Chance.

As I've come to expect, Ayer keeps the story moving along at a steady pace and I really appreciate her ability to fill her stories with multiple subplots and interesting characters while still making it easy to follow the action and not just remember who's who but also be able to find points of connection with them.

On to the next one!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I loved this one even more than I loved the first one. The story continues to have the same wonderful characters and the mythology is fantastic, but it takes it to a new level. It is a complex whirl-wind of danger, excitement, and action, and I am left with many unanswered questions (I'm sure they will be answered in the next book). You need to shut yourself in a room without any distractions, or do what I did and read it while my children slept, because you will not want to step away from this one once you start.

Wow, there is loads going on in this book!! This is another great read, I wasn't sure how it was all going to be juggled there is so much in this story, but if you know T.G. Ayer's work you know it is a great journey. The character build and personalities are all good. As always it is a well written and easy flowing read that takes you into another paranormal world that you will not want to put down and will be waiting and wanting for the next one!!

It’s so good to read the story from Mel’s view!
I think she’s more likable than Kai but operates in completely different ways.
Fortunately they can help each other out. I’m grateful for both perspectives.

Drake and Saleem also have an important role and I’m extremely curious where this will lead.
There are so many more different characters like Ari and Samuel, Natasha, Gina, Gia and more.
You need to keep a clear head to be able to follow the storyline but it’s definitely worth it!

I received a copy and this is my honest and voluntary review

I thought the first book in the series was great, but this one is even more thrilling. Mel is a tracker who accomplishes what the police cannot. She has more problems than she knows she has and has a finite time to accomplish them. Her friends all work with her on her cases and bring their problems along for the ride. There are witches, demons and shifters in this book which adds up to a whole lot of excitement. This one does end in a cliffhanger, but it is a good book. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

I wasn't a fan of the main case because a lot of party's to the case died and love life was as flat as a tire

This case was a little long winded for me . Mel's love interest or love life is non-existent Saleem was mentioned as a extra for a rescue mission. I was a little disappointed I thought maybe we would get heated sheets with Mel and Saleem. Mel has a draining spirit attached to her I would think any one else would take care of themselves and get rid of the hitchhiker spirit.

Talk about over worked and under paid !! Mel is definitely getting her butt kicked , all the while trying to find a child, a mother a Djinn oh and stop the world from being over run by paranormal crazy people . This book gives so much more of her back story and fills in a few blanks, definitly read book 1 first for the most enjoyment, but can be read as a standalone easily. Love Mel, can't wait to see what she's upto next. 4⭐'s . I recevied a gifted copy and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review.

Not sure if I’m crazy or what, but I felt like I was missing something the entire time. I really wish I’d read the other DarkWorld series before this one and maybe it would’ve helped. I felt like a lot of parts were just kind of glazed over and would have appreciated some more details, but overall, not a bad story. Not going to lie, probably not going to continue this series. Not feeling particularly invested.

I just recently became a fan of T.G. Ayers. I definitely like the genre and I would consider myself pretty familiar with the usual supernatural set of powers. This series caught me off guard with Mel's type of supernatural power (I would elaborate more but I don't want to spoil the book). I enjoy how relate-able the characters are and how the story just keeps me guessing.
