I'm oddly excited for Elain's character arc. For someone as boring as her.. I know there's a lot of potential. Idk which ship takes off but honestly, Gwyn has no point to her if she isn't with Azriel. And I feel like Elain will eventually find her way to Lucien. Not because of obligation. Because she chooses out of her own will. It doesn't have to be dramatic. It just has to be: "I'm sorry it wasn't fair to you too. Can we start again?"

OK, LISTEN UP.

"believe what you want about me." -eris, acowar

here is my case for an eris vanserra redemption arc.
because he deserves it and has so much potential. sarah's been planting seeds this whole time. i don't know where to start, so i'll just jump into the thick of it.
*MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ALL ACOTAR BOOKS*
*MAJOR ACOSF SPOILERS*

his home life sucks a lot
lucien has said before that the autumn court is basically awful and cutthroat and it sucks. we know that eris is tortured by his father and has most likely been multiple times. canon physical abuse, my friends:
------
"Always mix truth and lies, General. Didn't those warrior-brutes teach you how to withstand an enemy's torture?"
"Beron tortured you?"
"Who cared what my father does to me? He believed my story about the shadowsinger's spies informing him that a valuable asset had been kidnapped by Briallyn and that you lot were disgusted to arrive and find it was me, rather than someone from the Summer or Winter courts, or whoever stoops to associate with you."
Cassian unpacked every word. Beron had tortured his own son for information, rather than thanking the Mother for returning him. But Eris had held out. Fed Beron another lie. And then there was the way Eris had spoken about the other courts. Something had been off in his words, his tight expression. Was the male jealous?" (acosf)
-------
i mean.
his father is a total asshole and eris is not exempt from that influence. also, there's no chance he has anyone to comfort him or to tell him to stand up to his father. eris is alone, as far as we know, and that sucks a lot.

he acts in the best interests of prythian and the autumn court.
cassian says it in acosf. he takes the antidote. he wants to be high lord because beron is awful at it. he doesn't tell bri-whateverhernameis anything.
also he's nice about taking the antidote, so there's that.
he is not a bad person in the path that he is taking- he is allied with the ic and he wants the best for prythian, from what we've seen.

the mor thing.
yeah, there are conflicting reports on that. eris, multiple times, has said that the ic doesn't have the whole story.
-------
"so what's the asking price, eris?" mor demanded. "another little bride for you to torture?"
"i don't know who fed you those lies to begin with, morrigan."
"you never gave any evidence to the contrary. certainly not when you left me in the woods."
"there were forces at work that you have never considered, and i am not going to waste my breath explaining them to you. believe what you want about me." (acowar, left out irrelevant parts bc i don't feel like typing them out.)
-------
"Get that pitying look off your face."
"Why did you leave Mor in the woods that day?"
"You're not the person I want to explain myself to."
"I doubt Mor will want to listen."
-------
there is more (haha, mor/more) to this story, guys. and I'm willing to bet, because it's sjm, that it doesn't cast eris in a negative light.

the lucien thing.
conflicting reports again. tamlin says, in the first book, that eris was there when lucien's lover was killed. eris refutes this, and so does rhys (i think? idk about this, but i think i read that rhys said he wasn't somewhere). anyways, who do we believe- tamlin, or eris? it's worth thinking about. eris claims that:
-------
"and what of the brother you hunted down alongside of me? the one whose lover you helped to excecute before his eyes?"
"you know nothing about what happened that day. nothing."
-------
"how do you think he made it to the spring border? i wasn't there- when they did it. ask him. i refused. it was the first and only time i have denied my father anything. (more emotional abuse from beron! eris has never had to courage to deny him anything but that.) he punished me. (this is what i mean by making a case for him being physically abused multiple times.) and by the time i got free... they were going to kill him too. i made sure they didn't."
-------
so yeah? I mean, that's kind of a big deal. and eris seems distressed enough that i can't see how this would be a lie- especially because it'd be so easy to fact-check his story with lucien.

he is generally being an asshole, but...
is he an asshole to cass/az? yes, ofc. he says stuff with the intention of hurting them, and that's not ok at all. nothing can excuse that, but i'm almost certain he's jealous of them.
cassian says it himself: (in acosf) that eris has everything on paper (wealth, status, pureblood (for lack of a better word lol)) but he has no one that loves him, no friends- everything the inner circle has, eris lacks.
and eris always is as asshole to az and cass about their lineage. he calls them bastards all the time because he's jealous that even though they have nothing on paper, they're happy. they have friends and love, and while eris may have pure blood, he has none of that. even two bastard-born nobodies are happier and richer than he is, in the ways that matter.
cassian also notes, in the quotes i included above (the first one) that eris sounds jealous of the ic's friends.
yes, he is an asshole, but he has his reasons. they are obviously wrong, but he's not mean to be mean- he's mean because he's jealous and lonely. he can learn to recognize that, heal, and apologize.

under the mountain/literally the rest of his life
there is so much we don't know about him.
"because eris... what had it been like for him, under the mountain? what games had he played- what had he endured?"
also he has a few centuries of life to sort through, so... y'know. we know nothing about him. personally, i ship him in m/m relationships just because it seems to fit him. bi eris, please. my point is that we only know the biased povs of the inner circle and we know that they are not reliable narrators.

everyone's instincts say that there's more to him
"beron studied his son with a scrutiny that made some small, small part of me wonder if eris might have grown to be a good male if he'd had a different father. if one still lurked here, beneath centuries of poison." -feyre pov, acowar
"You know Eris, I think you might be a decent male, deep down, trapped in a terrible situation. I grew up surrounded by monsters. I've spent my existence fighting them. And I see you, Eris. You're not one of them. Not even close. I think you might even be a good male. You're just too much of a coward to act like one." -cassian to eris, acosf

misc. quotes and points
-------
"Only Beron was stupid enough to scoff. Eris was just angling his body in his chair--blocking the path to his mother."
ok, so eris is protective of his mother. interesting.
-------
"beron entered... his remaining sons sneered at us... their father didn't bother to check them. but eris did. a step behind his father, eris murmured "enough" and his younger brothers fell into line. all three of them."
interesting.
-------
also i don't think the fact that he wanted to marry nesta is a negative character trait. i want to marry nesta. he didn't know really anything about what was going on in acosf, so like... i can't fault him for liking nesta. great. also we don't know his logic behind that request.
-------
""who knew that a cock could be so persuasive?"
"father." eris's voice was low with warning."
eris didn't need to stand up for rhys there, not at all.
-------

he is a redeemable person.
all i'm saying is that i would bet a lot of money that he gets his arc, and i want him to so badly. please, sjm. redeem eris.

edit: sjm please make azriel and eris mates because it would be funny and i would find it entertaining

Since I'm now thinking/hoping the 5th book will be about Azriel. I'll predict that this one is about Lucien and Elain. And transfer all my original predictions for book 5 to this book 😆

At this point, I am still not Elain's biggest fan but I could've said the same about Nesta before her book. Though I admittedly at least liked her more than Elain. That being said, I want Lucien to get his own book. He has so much story left to tell and he's so entwined with all the courts. The Autumn Court where his so-called father rules and his brother is trying to take over. The Day Court where his real father is. The Night Court where his mate resides. The Spring Court where his former best friend is letting things fall to shit. And his position as emissary working with Juran and Vassa.

He and Elain also haven’t truly had any time to explore any sort of relationship. Mostly because she hasn’t been open to it, and part of me thinks it’s because the whole idea of mates terrifies her. Like she feels as though it’s something forced upon her, all her life people have always given her want she’s wanted. But she never asked for this sort of thing. I want to see if they would as a couple if given a good honest chance.

Anyways, fingers crossed Sarah gives our fire boy the arc he deserves.

My original 2016 predictions for book 5 that I am now moving to book 6 -->
Fangirl hopes/predictions/theories:
But honestly, with Lucien's story, there is still so much to tell. Whether it’s his relationship with Elain, his fractured friendship with Tamlin, or his near non-existent relationship with his family. In ACOWAR, we were hit with two major Lucien-related realizations. Both of which he was not even privy to. I really hope Feyre tells him the truth, and I hope he cares enough to seek to confront those truths. (view spoiler) Anyways, I want Lucien to mend fences and really grow as a character.

A Court of Haunting Melodies??
That would be a good title, especially if this is Azriel and Gwyn's book! I can't stand the thought of him with Elain, she's so bland, and my girl Gwyn deserves so much love!

The way I screeched and laughed maniacally yesterday while listening to Call Her Daddy...

CAULDRON SAVE ME. IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!!!!
A release date. 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I guess I know which series I will be rereading in September 🤭

And we're getting another one in January
After YEARS of waiting, we are getting 2 books in the next year. 😭🥳

I am hoping for:
🖤 Lucien. A lot of Lucien... And for him to learn about his father's identity
🖤 Lucien getting some happiness. My poor baby deserves it.
🖤 Some Feyre & Lucien moments. I miss seeing them together.
🖤 Gwynriel (No Elriel, it would hurt Lucien too much)
🖤 Emerie & Mor, please and thank you.
🖤 I would like to know more about Eris, I was intrigued by him in the last book...
🖤 For this book to have a plot besides the romance, I need to see more of Prythian, and I want action and adventure, like we got in ACOMAF and ACOWAG
❌ No love triangle. Poor Az deserves some happiness, without too much drama, and the Gwynriel/Elriel fight has been going on for too long already.

*I will probably add more items to the list, because I know I will be obsessed with this series and what awaits us in the next 2 books until I get my hands on them.

1. A Court of Thorns and Roses ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
2. A Court of Mist and Fury ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
3. A Court of Wings and Ruin ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
3.5 A Court of Frost and Starlight ⭐⭐⭐
3.5 A Court of Frost and Starlight ⭐⭐⭐
4. A Court of Silver Flames ⭐⭐⭐.5

I want to see more of them all.

I NEED more of Tamlin. That storyline is NOT finished and if she just writes him off I might kill her. He has been through too much heartbreak and trauma but no one cares!!! His situation is so similar to Elains yet they're treated so differently!!!! NEED! MORE! TAMLIN! Feyre needs that sit down with him and actually listen and not be so pigheaded and selfish. The timeline of ACOSF is literally 2/3 years. YEARS! How has Tamlins court survived that? He deserves and desperately needs happiness! This needs to be wrapped up cz its killing me, I feel so bad for him! We never got any chapters from his POV which I feel like a lot of people need.

Lucien/Elain/Azriel. Need to get more on them. ACOSF didn't really do shit but show Nesta and Cassian get together and Feyre give birth. Lucien is a good character as he ties together the night court, Elain, Tamlin, the human lands, Helion AND the autumn court WHICH in turn brings in Eris and Beron. So he is a very well stringed character with a lot of insight to a lot of courts. So over how Elain treats him though, ugh.

I also want more from Rhysand and Feyre POV. I'm not the sort of person that can read and entire of 4 books from the same POVs and then suddenly switch it up. I have to see whats still going on with them and how they still operate ESPECIALLY now they have a child.

Eris defo needs to be explained as does Mor. Not an entire book I don't think but a good 3/4 chapters would suffice for Mor and maybe 6/7 for Eris, and of how he is going to take the throne. Could mix in some of Jurian and Grayson while you're there.

Am I alone in saying I want to go back to the Feyre/Rhysand narrative? Kinda fed up with Nesta, even with her POV book. Cassias was the only thing that got me through it. But so excited to see where the story goes from here!!

Update:

Found out that the last three have a separate plot and characters! *cheering* so relieved to hear this. And with all the hype around the most recent book, I suppose I'll actually have to get around to finishing ACOMAF

First thoughts:

Sooooo..... just found out this is a six book series. O.O

Am I the only one who's a little disappointed?

I mean... it started out so good, and when it turns out to be a six book thing, it almost seems like it's just become a money grab. Like oh, the first one was great, so lets just change the original plot of 2 or three books and drag it out to make as much as possible. Like no. It automatically puts a bad taste in your mouth.

Also.... still haven't finished ACOMAF. Tried for a full year. Still only like 45% through it. I'm sorry, but it put me in one of my worst reading slumps ever, I'm not sure I can forgive it for that. Not to mention that I haven't read the most recent TOG book yet. But that series I've kind of written off.

This one I had such high hopes for. But now... six books. Honestly Maas, why? Just why? Can't you write a decent series and make the plot just decent? Not with a new boy every book because you can't think up any other plot? You have fantastic writing talent, please stop wasting it.

I am so ready for Elain and Azriel. When the gywnriels die, their brains need to be studied by scientists. Bonus chapters are for additional information, not for the trajectory of the books to change. Good luck wishing on a star for gywnriel to happen based on a bonus chapter.

Edit: not y’all being angry for no reason. Its funny how SJM has written plenty of bonus chapters, and they have never formed a new relationship in them.
