"Original version of a #selfie: Taking a photo of yourself rather than having someone else take it for you. You try out various filters and select the one that makes you look your best. #Selfienomics version of a #selfie: reflecting on different aspects of your life and taking the initiative to improve so that you can be the best version of yourself."
And so begins Selfienomics, the first Indian self-help book written for young people by a young entrepreneur who speaks their language. Offering workable, practical advise on how to manage finances, start a business, complete creative projects and how to be a better citizen, Selfienomics is so funny, upbeat and entertaining, it's not just a must-read but also a mast-read.
This book is my first attempt at reading non-fiction and I am not at all disappointed with it. Before reading the book I thought non-fiction was so not my genre to read, things have definitely taken a U –turn after finishing ‘Selfienomics’. The book is a complete package of humour, life lessons and small aspects in life that we unknowingly ignore.
This book is for everyone and anyone who reads and that’s the best part about ‘Selfienomics’. It’s not for a specific target audience; it has something for everyone out there. The lessons that I learned from this book are definitely worth sharing. The author at one point says if something is too big, it loses its importance. This is so true, everyone has experienced at some point in their life that the one thing that was too big for them was not important the moment it became yours. There was a point in my life when money was my top priority now that has been permanently replaced by happiness. Money definitely holds some place, but more than a anything I prefer happiness and now I tend to do the things that keep me happy. Earlier when I started working my whole routine was work-sleep-eat-sleep-work, now I tend to spend time reading books in between the breaks in office and when I travel I read on my phone. When back from office I play with my dog, and then Sleep! (I like sleeping OK! :D) This book has helped me in so many ways and I know it would help you as well, it’s worth a try isn’t it?
Read this when you are down or confused or in any mood and you won’t be disappointed as it would in some way present you the answers that you are looking for.
Thanks to the publisher for sending the review copy. All the opinions in this review are my own and that may differ from your point of view.
Confession time: I have never read a self-help or motivational book before. I never felt the need for it, maybe because I follow "let go and laugh it off" funda for most of the situations in my life. But when I read about Selfienomics by Revant, I thought why not give it try? I mean max to max I wouldn't like it and leave it alone. But when I started reading it, it was like all my thoughts and perspective about life has been poured into this one awesome book! It turned out to be a book that I could relate to and love.
So Selfienomics has a very simple meaning taken from our daily lives. Selfie: Means taking a photo yourself rather than having someone else to take it for you. You try out various filters and select the one that makes you look the best. Selfienomics now is the version of a selfie only, wherein you reflect on different aspects of your life and take the initiative to improve them so that you can be the best version of yourself.
Various topics of self-improvement like how to make most of your hard earned money, how to broaden your network, how to give time and enjoy with your family more and how to have fun while doing all these things is what Selfienomics is about. It's a very sensible and a practical book that has taken examples from our daily life, spicing it up with business news and internet memes. When you will be reading it, I am sure you will either say "Exactly!" after every chapter or you will start implementing the lessons in your daily life.
As a person who never read a self help book, what attracted me towards Selfienomics was that it was written by someone from our generation only. Someone who understands what we go through every day, what kind of struggles we have and how we manage them everyday. If the same book would have been written by some other author, who generally give standardized tips and tricks on how to make most of your life, I might have left the book in between. Revant has shared both sides of the story, whether it is money or relationship. He has kept all topics open and balanced from both ends and that is exactly what I loved about this book.
Yes, there are tips and tricks in Selfienomics but they are given in such a way that they seem to be practical and easy to implement. Covering major areas like Finances, friends, and family, Selfienomics has hardly left anything out from our lives. Another amazing thing that I loved about this book was humor quotient which is on point. I mean every line or chapter has something to make you smile. Some of the one-liners are too hilarious and the hashtags are too good and used very smartly in the chapters.
The open and friendly tone that Revant has used will make it easier for you to read and think about the lesson. It's like reading on an open platform, with pros and cons in the open for discussion. There is no commanding voice like other self help books that you have to follow the given advice otherwise you will fail.
There is hardly anything wrong in this book. It's engaging, it's helpful and it's very interactive. Revant's smooth and friendly writing style has made Selfienomics a must have self-help book. I for one recommend Selfienomics over the other "stringent" material that we have in our #TBR. And as they say, make sure not to miss out on this one.
Thank you Bloomsbury India for sending me a copy of this book for review :)
Revant's debut novel, Selfienomics, is a guide that attempts to enhance our quality of life by broadening our mental horizons. Through the span of these eleven chapters, he pays close attention to the various facets of our lives, drawing our attention towards how we could be living a more positive and healthy life. Interspersed with quotes and pop-culture references that back the various points made, Selfienomics induces a retrospective sphere wherein one is compelled to look at their perspective on matters of importance. It presents us with the information needed to make our own well-informed opinions.
Since I don't read a lot of non-fiction, I wasn't sure to what extent I'd enjoy this one. Any initial hesitation on my part, was wiped clean soon after. Revant's witticism and flair for writing shines through from the beginning. He makes use of colloquial language, generously adding tons of hashtags and Hindi words. Fear not, for those who aren't familiar with these non-English words and references, there's a glossary of sorts at the back. What I found to be unique and surprisingly, very likable is the fact that he uses several business theories & principles to explain human sensibilities. And they made total sense!
Humor is definitely one of the author's major strengths. Almost every five minutes, I was laughing out loud. While a majority of the instances delineated in the book were relatable, there were some that weren't. At one point, I thought the finance aspect got a little too much, but then out of nowhere he'd drop a little joke and I'd be clutching my stomach with tears of laughter. I love how this book employs a great deal of positive psychology elements such as good life, health, ambition etc. Moreover, its informative, so you glean a lot from it. There's a Dialogues and Discussion section at the end of a topic, which helps you get a better understanding of what has been spoken about and what your values are.
Revant makes a lot of realistic points, encouraging the readers to rethink their POV. He prods you to question everything you've learnt - be it about God, nutrition, time, jobs, society and much more. Like Derrida's theory of Deconstruction, he systematically breaks down our thought process, highlighting how we get accustomed to think the way we do. Even though there are some things I don't agree with, I believe that was the point of the book - to bring you clarity about where you stand. Overall, I absolutely loved this book. I'd read it again and again from time to time. I've probably said this multiple times before, but this book is HILARIOUS and yet it doesn't take away from the seriousness of certain issues! It is a must read for everyone, no matter your tastes in books. I urge you to pick it up right away.
I had serious doubts about this one even after picking it, but it turned out to be quite interesting, probably more because I agree with most of his points personally. Read with no real expectations, as if you're reading a blog, and you'll enjoy it.
Self Help is one genre that I actively resist- that too by all means. So when I received a fresh copy of "Selfienomics" by Bloomsbury India, I was quite skeptical to take the plunge. But then the cover page claimed to be a "funny" guide and the preface further claimed that the book offers "hilarious" advice on how to make money, get the most out of your job, broaden your network etc and hence I decided to give it a try. As evident by the 4 star rating that I have given, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and to my utter surprise, the book even turned out to be a page turned at various points.
Revant has an eye for detail- he has closely pondered over the issues that the young generation faces, the thought process it goes through and offers genuine advice (in a hilarious way) to how to live better and happier. Every page is full of relevant quotes (some by philosophers, some by well known authors while others are Whatsapp forwards), bollywood-inspired hashtags and witty one liners (Narendra Modi is like Vidya Balan in Kahaani- He just doesn't deliver). The author is a certified Health Coach and hence it is needless to say that the chapter on Health & Fitness is extremely profound and I really found some tips very handy and useful.
The book is good to clear your thoughts, make you think twice about a particular phenomenon, and to inspire you for change- all these while maintaining a humorous and "desi" tone.
If you are looking for some life-altering advise on health, charity, patriotism, career, finances and self-improvement but are too wary of a typical preachy self-help book, I would strongly advice you to give "Selfienomics" a try. Kudos to the author for an honest, brilliant and impact-creating debut!

I do not particularly like reading non-fiction books. But when saw this book on social sites I found myself interested in it and thanks to the publisher I got hold of it. This book has given me a lot to think about - like really deep thoughts. It is the reason that I have started writing a bookish diary in the first place. I found some lines in the book that I would like to discuss in my review. Not some, just two that have knocked deep into my head. When something is too big, it loses its importance. - This is something which is being said and remembered at some point in every human's life. Whether the reason be wealth, love, care, giving your loved ones time, the fact of being too poor, the fact of being too rich - the more the fact holds position, the less importance it attracts. Did I confuse you? Let me see, now how to simplify it enough that my thoughts come out clear? Well, lets try this out... for example let's say you love someone too much, care for that person too much, listen to him/her all the time, go everywhere the person wants you to go: you do this out of love for the person, don't you? But as time passes by you would definitely feel sad, due to the fact that the person does not acknowledge your love, your care, he/she has taken you for granted. What happens is that your care and love has become so big that it has lost the importance it had in your partners life. Another example, when we see a poor child sitting in the pavement, crying it's lungs out because of hunger, we try to help that little belly by buying it something to eat or give some money. But if we see as many as 4-5 children doing the same, do we really feel like doing so? Don't we think once that we don't posses the capability to help them? Don't we ignore the poor when we see a good no. of them together? Doesn't it just seem normal? It so happens that with the no.of the poor increasing at a high rate we, the better ones have taken the happening as a "normal" feature. We consider them as a class, "the poor" just like "the normal people". So have I now made my thoughts clear? The more a fact gets bigger, the more it loses importance, it becomes NORMAL. When we can mourn their death, why can't we celebrate their life when they are alive? - We someday or the other have to face death - whether it be of someone close to the heart, someone we used to know or even our own death. When someone close dies don't we feel the urge to let them know so many unsaid things, don't we wish we had let them know the secrets that they had the right to know, don't we want to get back to time and change the way we had behaved with the person? When I think about the fact that someday I too am going to die, I find myself regretting over some decisions I have taken, the way I have behaved with someone, I feel like speaking out certain unsaid words. It might sound crazy but I often feel like standing on the rooftop and shout out everything I have in my mind -doesn't matter whether anyone is listening or not, at least I have said it all. Is a life worth living we have so many regrets? I believe that we should live each day as the last day of our life leaving no pace for regrets. I believe we should celebrate each time we feel joyous. Celebrations & parties don't always need occasions, birthdays or anniversaries. Sometimes all we need is a moment of joy, speaking our minds out, shouting, dancing and being all crazy. Let's never feel regretful over the undone things for the one who died, let's celebrate while he/she is still alive and make him/her more alive. Let's make a life worth living for us and everyone around us.
See, what the book has done to me? It has given me so many things to think about, so many lessons to realize my mistakes. A non-fiction book which has given me so many useful tips that least expected before reading it. It's a book I would suggest everyone to read.
Remember late night conversations with friends in college hostels spent discussing, arguing, debating, laughing and making PJs after PJs after really bad PJs. These are no holds barred conversations where strong opinions ranging from SRK or Salman, who is a better actor (#lol) to why is the education system in this country so messed up, are all discussed and dissected with equal enthusiasm.
That is what Selfienomics felt like. Minus the PJs (man the author is seriously funny!). The entire book read like a conversation with a friend. There are take-aways in each chapter which are not stated and underlined for you like other self help books, but are woven beautifully in the passages for you to discover at your own pace. There are little aha! moments throughout the chapters on progress and perfection and the wingman theory (my favourite). A lot of people here have written about how Revant has used hashtags in this book to make it more interesting, which is great. But what is amazing is the way he is able to theorise the little things we do in our lives (that we don’t give much thought to) and present his own take on them so logically that it all makes sense. Even the areas in which I don’t agree with his opinions, he is able to express clearly how he reached there.
I do not particularly like reading non-fiction books. But when saw this book on social sites I found myself interested in it and thanks to my boss I got hold of it. This book has given me a lot to think about – like really deep thoughts. It is the reason that I have started writing a bookish diary in the first place. I have already suggested this book to my friend circles. I found some funny lines in the book that I felt smiling inside of me. This is the deep character development and type of writing that i've been craving. A book that made me think and ask so many questions. Sometimes I felt like I was struggling through really heavy writing, but the actual story itself and the moral questions that arise from its telling were really, really interesting and I surprised myself with how much I found myself contemplating this novel. Thanks to Bloomsbury & thank you so much to the writer & thank you for those who are suggested me to read this book. :) I'll suggest every young guy to read this book not only for that i loved it, this book like a friend who will stand by us when we need to think about our life.
Overall, this book is hilarious and very well-written. The author uses modern themes, which make the topics very relatable and the book does not feel preachy. Selfienomics was an easy read as it covered interesting everyday topics and provided thoughtful insight but with many witty lines which made me burst out laughing on many occasions.
I love the use of examples from cricket, bollywood and popular culture as it was easy to connect to them. I also have planned to follow some of the ideas from the book especially in the health chapter and the money chapter (great advice especially for people in their twenties).
Even though I don't agree with all of the author's views, the author's style of writing makes it interesting and a fun read, and I highly recommend this book to everyone.
All the examples & Desi style of writing makes it more connectable; most of his examples are simple & drive home the author's opinion really well.
Many excerpts are quote worthy stuff, the author does try to stuff too much at times but He ends the chapters really well.
Author Revant spells out simple tasks to undertake daily & illustrates how small changes bring about big results in the most effective ways.
Humor & satire takes center stage in the book; usage of hastags is creatively done.
Not all opinions given here are acceptable but most are; as the author himself conveys that He doesn't explain "WHAT" to think but instead tries his best to explain "HOW" to think !!!
#Lovedit Let me take a moment and talk about my journey with this book.
The flashing cover (smart 😏) and dramatic title, never failed to grab my attention at a bookstore. Later on the universe decides to bring the author to my college itself, and I happen to be listening about Veganism, from like two tables away from where the magic was happening and I knew I had to read this book(#TEDx) .
Day before yesterday, I got the book. Yesterday, I started reading the book and today I'm done and I have never been so happy. Not only did I find small things like the fb-web-browser thingy and lines like "People who use 'bro ' too often" relatable to an extreme extent but I def did learn more than I could ever learn if I were on my own. #FaithInNonFictionBooksRestored.
Lets just say I have cleared my mind after reading this book.
Little have I ever read a self help book. Most readers go with a plot, dashing cover page, action, romance etc. but near to none read self help book. I got this copy from publisher. And I am thankful to them for sending me one.
This book is written by a young mind keeping all the details, stress that youngsters are going through. It have that unique style- naming it in hastags that it becomes relatable.
The idea of converging selfie with self help guide is really appreciative. Today selfie is what every single person is doing. To make a meaning out of it is what this book does.
One of the best book I've read on Self help. This illustrates the facts and theory which one can relate to and improve the lifestyle. I feel totally related and enjoyed the book from page 1 till end as the author has smartly uses the # with Bollywood dialogues, different personalities, referral books etc. to make his point. I finished up this book in 2 day and that too weekdays, which happens very rarely. Books has lived up to it's tag line" A Seriously funny" guide to living the good life.
The self-help book everyone needs to read for leading a better life. Revant has provided an unique perspective to common aspects of life and has encouraged the readers to improve their lives step by step.
Amazing! Initially I thought the book is too bollywood-ish but it turned out to be one of the best Self-help book I have ever read. #ThoughtProvoking #MustRead
As a health and wellness enthusiast, self-help is a genre I avidly consume. Admittedly, I am one of the very people Selfienomics aptly refers to, who takes a large portion of this sort of content through online articles and social media pages. The few self-helps books I have read, like The Secret, I had to put down after taking in a couple of pages. The message it was intending to convey was great (though a bit extreme), but very repetitive and bland.
What Selfienomics is trying to achieve, it did.
The experience it provides is that of an intriguing mystery fiction- one that you can't put down, because of the LOL-worthy hashtag humor, because of how novel and nontraditional the "advice" element is. Advice wouldn't do justice, because it's not situation where you're being told this is the solution to your problem in your financial life, love life, career goals, health, etc. as much as here are tools and perspectives you can rethink how you're going about managing your money, growing your relationship and network, making connections, and setting goals.
There's a great practical application piece, which is actually a big motivation source for many to truly benefit from the book apart from amassing knowledge through reading. While it's hard to really pick a favorite chapter, here are some absolutely great, eye-opening tidbits...no spoilers don't worry!
- Having wingmen, and that too a diverse bunch - Redefining Efficiency (hint: doesn't have to do with work!) - Cheat Days - Building your personal brand - and all the ridiculous easy steps we can take to create impact and contribute to all the issues we always gripe about on social media!
This is what I wish I could have read in school, because of how relevant this is to everyone, not just the youth. It's truly experimental, nothing like it, from the overall content to the format and what the acknowledgements and quotes look like!
Read it, and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about!
It was great read and one of the best so far. It is undoubtedly one of the best book of this decade for Indian in Self-Help category and may be for coming decades. Book is very easy to understand, even difficult issues are written beautifully. Along this journey, he has attached the humor with creative #hashtags, which come at right times when ,the subject becomes tricky or tense.
The author has touched all the issues related to current scenario Indians. Author has given his views in a very simple and positive approach with totally new perspective. Author has touched all the problems / issues which are prevalent in today’s life and not only touched but also given a positive and simple solutions. The solutions are practical and easy to implementable by anyone. At Least one can re-wire, re-boot, re-program his own life by these simple approaches so that one can be best version of oneself.
The book is perfect blend for achieving a Happy life for self, family & society. Author has touched all the issues like Happiness in Life, Meaning of life, office life, your life goals (Self goals), Managing your finance, managing your time, Conversion of Passtime to hobbies, increasing your personal relations (Wingmen), reading the labels of food items (Author is certified Health Coach), religions, helping others, gender neutral parenting, vitamin L, sitting is the new smoking, personal branding, etc.
💁🏼♂️ Let me tell you I myself have written one novel Diary of a PhD student. I met Revant during the TedX talk at IIT Bhubaneswar. 📕The book is written in a different format full of hashtags. The author has made 11 chapters each having an appropriate title. I personally liked chapter 7 wingman theory and India Aaj Kal. 💡The author also discusses time management. Many of us waste time watching cricket and how commentators exaggerate things to keep us hooked. 🔦 one thing I liked and is written in many novels is do different tasks do not do repetitive tasks. They don’t develop your brain. ⏱ Being busy is considered a new fashion these days. The author also touches on that be productive. 📺The author watched 250 Movies of different years to gain experience in life. 📱In short, the book is good for people to think laterally and not always stuck in the same routine. The best quote of the book sitting is the new smoking and to embrace. Loneliness (you spend 11 months alone before you came to you so how can you don’t like your company ).
This book is absolutely phenomenal. All I can say is READ IT!!! It's hilarious, motivating and will keep you hooked until the very last page. Check out my blog for a full review. #ReadItNow #Awesome https://bookaholism.wordpress.com/201...
I was sceptical about the way the book is written when I started, but it surprised me with relevant, prudent and immediately applicable pointers (no lofty advice). Infact I'm writing my first review as a result of reading the book! Lot of takeaways, a self help book which involves and includes.
Witty, on-point and full of Desi references to which the people born in 90s can definitely relate to. Great hastags peppered throughout the book. Loved the style of writing and the authenticity of the young author!

Food Pharmer's Selfienomics is an outstanding read, with the author presenting an interesting perspective on various subjects. The book is not only infused with humor but also prompts thoughtful reflection. The incorporation of modern themes ensures the content stays relatable without adopting a preachy tone. I appreciate the author's perspective on nutrition, lifestyle, social responsibility, and mindset in the book. The author not only identifies issues but also offers innovative solutions to address them.
The author shared many insights that helped me personally and shared his views on a different range of topics. Revant wrote especially for the Indian audience. The book engages very well.
