An Amish Summer is a collection of four novellas by 4 popular Amish fiction authors. Being that I've read books by all of these authors it was fun to catch up on characters I had previously met in the author's previous books. These stories were very enjoyable reads that dealt with some tough issues. Life is the Amish world, just like in ours isn't all peaches and cream. the authors dealt with the issues in a classy way and showed us the perfect example of forgiveness and trust and leading by example. I look forward to reading many more books by all of these authors.

I love novella collections and the opportunity to read several stories by different authors, some of them my favorites. The summer theme was fun with the settings varying from farm to the beach to camping at a lake. In the first story, A Reunion in Pinecraft, I felt as confused as the characters who was going to end up together, and it was interesting to see the direction the author took. The second story, Summer Storm, was full of angst and misunderstanding. I loved how Jesse proved himself to be devoted to Arianna and her family. My favorite of the collection was Lakeside Love. I really liked this story of unrequited love and finding peace in oneself and following God's will. Even though Jonah had blinders on for a while, I admired the genuine way he handled his shifting feelings. Even though it was a short story, there were great themes explored and I felt like it was well-balanced and contained a full arc. The last story, One Sweet Kiss, was another one I especially liked because of the matchmaking efforts Jacob and Martha undertake for two of their special needs friends. It showed their thoughtful and caring nature, and gave Martha experiences that demonstrated that Jacob could be trusted. This collection is one that will be loved by fans of Amish fiction!

Love me a summertime read chock-full of summer romance. Add in the fact that they are all Amish novellas by some of the best authors in the biz and my bibliophile euphoria is complete. These compact stories deliver a satisfying punch of angst along with the sweet bliss of romance. There's a great mix in this collection -- humour, drama, emotional highs and lows and, of course, the sublime hope of not one but four happily-ever-afters! Absolutely perfect for some lazy, hazy summer days of reading.

This was a decent novella collection! Let’s give some thoughts on each one:
Shelley Shepard Gray: Some parts seemed a little unrealistic from other Amish books I’ve read, (but I am in no way claiming to be an expert about the Amish) like in the case of an Amish man taking off his shirt to show a girl his scar (& by default, his muscles). I pretty sure I read something very similar in another Amish book I read earlier this year. It was overall an okay novella.
Amy Clipston: Ooooh, I wanted to slap Ariana’s father. Not a good thought, I know, I know, but I’m sure it’s a common thought for those reading about him! I enjoyed seeing these new characters and seeing these first two in a new series being in love. :)
Kathleen Fuller: Wasn’t a fan of Judah because of his major jealousy, but by the end he grew on me and I did really like that last chapter!
Kelly Irvin: I couldn’t follow along as well as the other novellas due to all the characters mentioned. I did love Simon & Amanda (not the main two) and found them to be precious. They’re the only reason the rating went up a bit for me. I really couldn’t get into this one.
Best guy out of these main heroes is: Jesse! (Amy Clipston’s novella) I really enjoyed his caring heart and how much he wanted to prove himself to Ariana’s father.
There wasn’t really a main girl I thought was the best, but I would say out of the four, Ariana (Amy Clipston’s) was my favorite.

An Amish Summer
A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray
I liked the premise of this story. There is something romantic about falling in love while exchanging letters. I liked both the girls and Toby. I just felt that I didn’t bond with Graham as much as I should have. I wanted to love and trust him for Sherry but I found that difficult to do.

I’m going to be perfectly frank, one of my other issues was with similarly named sisters. I know that this is a silly nitpicky thing for me. But, I struggle with remembering which sister is which. Especially when I’m looking back on things and discussing with friends who are also reading this story at the same time.

Summer Storm by Amy Clipston
Amy Clipston really knocked it out of the park with this one! It’s really difficult to write complex characters into a novella without falling short. Somehow, Amy managed to pull it off. These characters were so well-developed. My heart went out to Ariana, Isaac, and Jesse. And though she has a small role in this book; I also felt for Ariana and Isaac’s mom. Why? Because I cannot imagine being married to Marvin Smucker. He is one of those people who it’s their way or the highway.

I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone by revealing too much. But, I want to say how much I appreciate Amy’s realistic approach for healing for this family. Sometimes a person needs more help than love and friendship can give. In those instances, a person truly needs to seek professional help. I loved that love didn’t just make all the bad stuff go away. That’s not real life. Sometimes you have to accept you’re broken before things can get better.

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller
Okay, first off, I just want to say how amazing Kathleen Fuller is for having told a pretty sister/plain sister plot without dropping the, “She didn’t know how beautiful she was” cliché. Seriously, this girl deserves a medal! Esther is absolutely adorable. I just loved that girl and I loved how she had resigned herself to being happy—with or without the man she longed for. I truly feel that Esther could have pulled it off and been happy if Judah hadn’t ever woken up and smelled the roses.

I do wish that I’d had more time to spend with them as a couple. I felt a little rushed but I often feel this way after reading a novella. I do appreciate that a little extra time developing Sarah and exploring her feelings though. Even though it probably took away from time that could have been spent with Esther and Judah.

One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin
I have to say, alligator wranglin’ in an Amish book is new to me. I appreciate quirky things like that in an Amish book. But, I just couldn’t bond with these characters. It’s really hard to fully develop a love story in a novella. Trying to develop three love stories in one novella is just too much. I felt that this story told more of Dwayne and Rory’s story—a Non-Amish couple—than it did of Martha and Jacob’s. I also felt that these characters must be from one of the author’s pre-existing series and I was missing a lot of the back story. Such as, I’m guessing that Jacob’s sister had left the Amish and became a counselor’s wife? Maybe a preacher’s wife? I’m not entirely certain. I was definitely missing some of this story.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Kathleen Fuller. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. All opinions are my own.

A Reunion in Pinecraft (Shelley Shepard Gray) - 2.5 stars

I just wasn’t a fan of the whole mistaken identity plotline. It was weird that he met the one girl, liked her, and inadvertently began writing to her sister, and then liked her instead. It was convoluted and seemed a bit strange.

Summer Storms (Amy Clipston) - 4 stars

Definitely the best one in the collection. Jesse was so sweet and so determined to do the right thing. I don’t know how Amy Clipston does it, but her novellas are always well developed and I love the characters.

Lakeside Love (Kathleen Fuller) - 3 stars

This one was cute, but I got tired of the jealousy after a while. I did like the ending and I liked that Esther was able to come out from her sister’s shadow.

One Sweet Kiss (Kelly Irvin) - 1.5 stars

I didn’t like this one at all. There were too many characters which made the story hard to follow and I haven’t read the series that connects to this novella. I didn’t like the main couple in this one. They didn’t seem compatible. The conflict was also resolved way too easily.

My Thoughts
These lovely ladies have once again brought their fans a collection of stories that will forever be with them. Each story is unique and filled with God's grace and love. Each story has characters that are perfectly chiseled for their roles and will become friends with the one holding the book. I love when a collection of stories can do that!

I loved each of these stories as they flowed perfectly and wrapped me up and kept me captive. But, the one I'll focus on in this review is Ms. Fuller's story, Lakeside Love. This story is wonderfully written! As someone who didn't always fit in with the crowd, and always had friends slightly skinner, and slightly prettier, I can relate fully with Esther. Watching her story unfold felt like my story! I loved watching Esther and Rhett get to know each other, and I had a love/hate relationship with Judah, which, to me, was perfect. I highly
These characters in Ms. Fuller's story (and the other 3 stories!) all competed to own my heart. In the end, after seeing God's love and grace at work among the Amish, they all owned it. Each character had a small piece of my heart. I loved spending summertime with these sweet, unforgettable characters.

If you are looking for a clean, fun, Amish read this summer, look no further than this 5 star read. It's a wonderful blend of romance, hope, faith, and God's unending love. The characters are perfectly chiseled and your heart will be swept up in the middle and kept captive til the last page is turned. I definitely recommend this to all and it's on my top reads list of 2017! Well done, ladies! This review was originally posted on Cafinated Reads

A new novella collection of sweet, summer romances from some of our favorite Amish authors!
A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray
When sisters Sharon and Sherilyn Kramer attend a wedding in Shipshewana, one of them returns with a new penpal while the other returns to her job at the bakery. After sending weekly letters back and forth, Sherry and Graham Holland arrange a reunion in Pinecraft. Upon Graham’s arrival, however, he realizes he’s been writing to the wrong sister. He decides to use the reunion as a way to get to know both sisters, but can he sort through the confusion in time to turn the worst vacation ever into something truly wonderful?

My thoughts: A Reunion in Pinecraft is a sweet romance written in Ms. Gray's distinctive style. Two sisters, attracted to the same man. One man, confused about which sister he really wants. The one he wrote to or the one he dreamed about. A double romance plays out in this story, and I adored it. I think the Pinecraft novels and novellas are my favorites by this author. I like her sweet, innocent style. Loved it.
Summer Storms by Amy Clipston
Arianna is counting down the days until her wedding to Jesse. They have been friends longer than Arianna can remember, and that friendship turned into love over the past couple of years. But when Arianna’s brother Tobias, who happens to be Jesse’s best friend, gets them both into trouble, Arianna’s father puts an end to her engagement to Jesse. Some summer storms pass quickly, but Arianna is afraid the damage from this one may be too much to repair.

My thoughts: Summer Storms is a romance by Ms. Clipston that deals with a realistic problem that some Amish have. I couldn't connect with Arianna as well as I wanted to, but Jesse is a sweetheart. I hated that he was judged unfairly by both Arianna and her father for trying to help Tobias with his troubles, struggles, and bad decisions, but it's real. I loved how he went the extra mile to prove himself worthy to both Arianna and her father. There are some lingering questions at the end of the story, but overall, good. I haven't read all of Ms. Clipston's books so I'm not sure if this one was part of one of her series.
Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller
Esther has always lived in the shadow of her beautiful younger sister Sarah. Even the boy she has known—and loved—her entire life, Judah, only has eyes for Sarah. But when a handsome young Englischer comes to live with the family for a summer, everything begins to change.

My thoughts: Lakeside Love by Ms. Fuller is unique as in its about a plain Amish girl who's home has turned into a tourist attraction by her dad who wants to earn money. She's a sweet, friendly girl who has a low opinion of herself because she's not pretty. When her sister starts flirting with an Englisch man in addition to every other man in town and lashes out at Esther for being friendly, it causes a strain between the sisters. Judah is young and confused, and I'm glad Rhett spoke words of truth to him and helped him find his true feelings. I absolutely loved this story. Like with Ms. Clipston, I haven't read all of Ms. Fuller's books, so I don't know if this was intended as part of one of her series. Either way, it was a totally adorable story.
One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin
Everybody in little Bee County, Texas, can see the obvious: Jacob King and Martha Byler are meant to be together. Everyone, that is, but Martha. Ever since her mother died when Martha was a young girl, she has taken over the role of caregiver to her large family. And reckless Jacob, who has had a little too much fun on his rumspringa, only seems to add to the list of people to manage. But one summer changes everything, and these two may just find a way to meet in the middle and share one sweet kiss.

My thoughts: One Sweet Kiss is about an on-again off-again couple who both parent the community. Martha had to be a mama to her family since she was ten and she doesn't want to raise Jacob. But what she doesn't see is that Jacob is a "pa" to a special boy and an oversize 'kid' who's married with kids of his own. Add an alligator to the mix and you have a recipe for action, adventure, and danger. This story is definitely part of Ms. Irvin's Bee County series, which I've read all of so far.

Altogether this is a great collection and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Highly recommended for fans of Amish romance, it earns a solid 4 stars.

An Amish Summer is a collection of four novellas. These novellas include:

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray. Sharon and Sherilyn travels to Shipshewana for a wedding, where they meet Graham. Graham and Sherilyn starts writing letters to one another and look forward to one day meeting again. But there is a twist, Graham finds that he has been writing to the wrong sister. What does he do now?

Summer Storm Amy Clipston. Adrianna and Jesse are happy, in love, and about to be married. Only her brother comes along and ruins it and her father refuses to allow the marriage to happen. Will he change his mind or will Adrianna's love be lost to her forever?

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller. Esther feels she could never be like her little sister, Sarah. Sarah is the beautiful one and even has the attention of Judah, the one Esther has loved most of her life. How will things change when a Englischer comes to visit for the summer?

One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin. Martha has been taking care of her family since her mother died when she was young. She, also, feels she needs to take care of wild boy Jacob. How will one summer change her world forever?

I thought An Amish Summer was pretty good. I enjoyed all of the short, sweet and clean Amish stories. My favorite would have to be Kelly Irvin's One Sweet Kiss. I would recommend this book as it is definitely worth a read.

Four stars.

I received this book from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

A Reunion in Pinecraft

I'm still chuckling over the fact that Graham got the sisters mixed up! I think that was a clever plot for the story. Thankfully Toby was around to charm one of the sisters, otherwise Graham would have found himself in a huge pickle! But what I enjoyed most about this story was the message. You cannot judge a book by its cover, you have to start reading the pages. Something that can be mediocre on the outside can be quite exquisite on the inside. A lesson and great reminder for us all.

Summer Storms

This novella reminds me that we are all just human, even the Amish (gasp!). We, as outsiders, tend to think that Amish people do not deal with certain issues like we do. Almost like they are immune to them. The truth is that they really do. They have all sorts of problems, just like us. What may be different is the way we handle the problems. This novella was a beautiful example of that. It was not just a love story. I was a story of family, friendship, and how important these relationships are.

Lakeside Love

Sometimes people have a hard time seeing what's right in front of them. Judah was so sure he needed and wanted Sarah in his life. So much so that he couldn't see something wonderful right in front of him - Esther. Sure, Sarah was beautiful on the outside, but Esther was beautiful on the inside, where it really counts. I loved seeing Judah an Esther blossom and come together, developing this strong relationship without even knowing it.

One Sweet Kiss

This was a great ending to this group of novellas. It was fun! People were doing stuff wrong, getting into trouble, acting immature. The story reminds us that we all need to grow up at some point, but maybe not too much. After all, I think Jacob will always have a bit of childish qualities in him, and that's ok. It is what makes him Jacob. But the important part for Jacob was understanding when to have that, and when to act mature.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoy these Amish novella collections. I like that the stories can be read in a short amount of time, either introducing me to new characters, or building on a series that I already enjoy. I liked An Amish Summer and recommend it to Amish romance fans who are looking for light and enjoyable reading.

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray – This sweet story was a nice read. I like that the author ended up going in a different direction with it than I had originally expected it to go…and that direction resulted in a refreshing story.

Summer Storm by Amy Clipston – It was hard to watch as Jesse was blamed for something he did not do, but I appreciated that the author included this particular family reaction. It was a rigid and strict judgment handed down to this courting couple, but I enjoyed seeing how it was all eventually resolved.

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller – What a great story! I felt so bad for Esther as she pined for someone who was enamored with her sister. I loved the way this story played out!

One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin – This novella builds on the Amish of Bee County series. It was so nice to return to this community and revisit a few characters, while getting to watch the progression of Martha and Jacob’s attraction.

All of these novellas were enjoyable to read and a good choice for fans of Amish fiction.

An Amish Summer is a wonderful collection of novellas by four well-known authors of Amish fiction. Each story focuses on difficulties encountered between prospective young couples.

They each teach a valuable lesson, and the plots vary greatly as does each lesson.

I think my favorite is One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin. There is an interesting mixture of Amish on their rumspringa, Englishers, and devout Amish. The story has a very unusual twist, one you would not expect from a story about Amish. However, it makes the story more interesting and intriguing.

The individual novellas are appealing in different ways. Shelley Shepard Gray’s A Reunion in Pinecraft makes you wonder if the easily understood confusion between sisters Sharon and Sherilyn’s names can ever be straightened out. In Summer Storms, by Amy Clipston, we learn sacrifices are sometimes necessary to obey our parents, even when it seems unfair. Lakeside Love, by Kathleen Fuller, shows how outward appearances aren’t everything, and beauty only lasts for a season. In One Sweet Kiss, by Kelly Irvin, a very unusual plot gives way to a satisfying ending.

I received a copy of An Amish Summer from The Fiction Guild. However, I was under no obligation to provide a review.

I thoroughly enjoyed An Amish Summer, a novella collection featuring stories written by Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller and Kelly Irvin. While not the most challenging or life-altering read, it is a sweet summer book that I am glad to have read. My favorite from the collection was Fuller’s book, Lakeside Love. I found the characters entertaining and I loved watching Esther grow and develop a sense of self. I also got quite a few chuckles throughout the story as well. I also thought Gray’s A Reunion in Pinecraft was a great way to start the collection, as it contained a case of mistaken identity that kept me engaged throughout the whole story. If you’re looking for a feel-good, easy and fun book to read and enjoy this summer, or any time of year, I’d recommend An Amish Summer.

I was provided with a copy of this book by the Fiction Guild in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own, and I was not compensated financially for sharing my opinions.

sn't this cover beautiful!! I love the colors that are on it as well!!
This book has 4 different stories all written by my favorite authors!!
Normally I don't like that because they're too short!! I feel like I get into them and they're over just like that.
While it's nice to catch up on all the families and see what they are doing their story is over all too soon and sometimes I'm left wondering if we'll be reading about them again.
You also may come across with some tough issues that we don't normally read about in Amish books which makes these a lot more interesting!!
While reading this book it might be a little confusing at first but then as you get into it it is nicely done.
I like the summer settings for these novellas. I think summer is one of my favorite seasons along with Spring of course!!
The Amish are an interesting people. I like how they want to live in the world but not of it. In many ways, they are just like us except they handle their issues of life differently.
I can identify with some of the characters in a couple of the stories the others I cannot.
No compensations were received and all opinions are my own!
I strongly recommend this book for people who love reading novellas.
I received a copy from Netgalley - Thomas Nelson publisher

Themes of faith and responsibility seemed to run through these novellas of summertime romance. This collection left me happy that I had read it, despite my inclination to take a break from Amish fiction earlier this summer, and with letter writing on my mind. Including one of the most romantic kisses I’ve ever read in an Amish romance, this is a collection to enjoy when you need quick, sweet summery romance stories (with a little bit of grittiness) no matter what time of year.

This review refers to a finished copy I received for review through Thomas Nelson and Zondervan's Fiction Guild. All opinions expressed are my own. The full review can be read on my blog here: http://wp.me/p5Tcfi-3co

An Amish Summer consists of stories written by authors, Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller and Kelly Irvin. Like many of its predecessors (in terms of Amish novella collections) from the publisher, the title suggest the overall theme of each story. In An Amish Summer, readers will be able to feel the beauty of the season with our Amish characters.

In A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray, it was a reunion for our characters as well as for readers. If you're a fan of the author's Brides of Pinecraft series, you'll enjoy this novella indeed, especially with appearances of some fan favorite characters. The connection aside, this story's premise of pen pals and confusion of what's in the heart versus what you see makes for an interesting read.

In typical Amy Clipston novella style, Summer Storm gives readers a scenario that readers can fully relate. Not necessarily with the specific incident in this story, but one can relate to either being wrongly accused, or have wrongly jumped to conclusions. Either way, it's how the characters choose to act following, that makes this an inspiring read. Love it.

Ah. Kathleen Fuller's Lakeside Love was one I personally connect with the most. Possibly because our main character, Esther reminded me of me. The issue of self-confidence may be a common thread with many females, especially when we're young, but I think even as we grow through experiences, it can sneak up on you. I really love the fact that the author showed that the lack of self-confidence goes both ways, and even when one least expect it.

Kelly Irvin's One Sweet Kiss dealt with growing up and letting go, but also a certain resolve in trust. There are hard issues at play, but I think the message of how growing up isn't just into adulthood, but the discernment and wisdom in one's action is strong even when it's quite subdued. Sometimes maturity or at least thinking you're mature enough can be a hindrance to one's choice to growth.

Overall, An Amish Summer is another great collection that spoke of the heart, but also an encouraging collection on personal development. I enjoyed how each of our characters have evolved and learned more about themselves, others and experienced a crucial moment in their life's journey. Entertaining and insightful.

All 4 were 5/5⭐ for me. I wish I hadn't of waited all summer to read this. The best romance is the kind without all the vulgar language and sexual content.

My thoughts: 📗 - I read the first book last year so I skipped it.

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray 💌📮🚌🏖 5-92 - I enjoyed this story it is related to my favorite series by SSG.

Summer Storms by Amy Clipston 🌥⛈️🍸🐎 103-183 - This story was very good. I was not expecting the plot and had no idea where it was going.

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller 🏡🔺️🏕🎣 191-281 - I'm not a fan of triangles so I was surprised to enjoy this one so much.

One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin 🚗👩🏼‍🍼💒293-370 - This was a bit refreshing. I was expecting these storylines.

I don't know if I was just in a better mood for receiving a year later, or if it was the unique plots but I was surprised I rated these stories higher than a Pinecraft story.

Recommend to others: Yes! These are all very good.

Songs for the soundtrack: "How Great Thou Art" by Carl Boberg, "Amazing Grace" by John Newton, "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr., "Red Solo Cup" by Toby Keith, "All My Ex’s Live In Texas" by George Strait

Memorable Quotes: “This is fun, Graham. I’m glad you and the boys were in the mood for pie.” “You came upon us at the right time, for sure and for certain,” he said with a smile. “None of us wanted to be seen walking by ourselves with two pies in our hands.” She laughed. “It would be quite a sight, but not necessarily a bad one. And, of course, coconut cream pie is always a gut idea.”

“All right. We have to get going soon anyway. I think a storm is coming. Also, I promised mei dat I’d be home in time to help feed the animals.” His expression seemed tentative. “You’re still riding with me to get home, right?” “Ya, I’d like to.” “Gut.” He gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “I’ll go find Tobias. You go back to the porch and enjoy the rest of your time with our freinden. Okay?”

Normally she did too, but right now she was still trying to wrap her mind around the fact that Judah had not only said she was cute, but he was also eating her ice cream. Maybe there was more to tonight than him quizzing her about Sarah. Maybe he was attracted to her and somehow she’d missed the signals. Missing signals wouldn’t surprise her—she wasn’t exactly experienced when it came to dating and flirting. Maybe this really was a date— “Do you know if Sarah’s free tomorrow?” He took another lick of her ice cream. “I’ve got mei open buggy all cleaned up and thought she’d like to geh for a ride.” Esther’s heart sank. She’d love to go for a ride with Judah in his open buggy. “You’ll . . . you’ll have to ask her.” He grinned. “I will.” He polished off the rest of the cone. “You ready to geh? I’ve got stuff to do tonight.” She picked up the napkin and threw it away. She’d eaten approximately three bites of her ice cream. The evening was turning into a big disappointment. As she climbed into Judah’s buggy, her foot slipped. “Hey,” he said, catching her elbow. “Watch yer step.” And although she didn’t need his assistance, he held on to her as she got into the buggy. “Danki for yer help, Judah,” she told him when he got in and took the reins. “Nee problem. Did I ever tell you about the time I slipped and fell facedown in the mud? Almost chipped a tooth on a rock.” He smiled and tapped on one of his front teeth. “If I had, I would have deserved it. I was mouthing off at Mamm after church.” “I can’t imagine you doing that,” Esther said, folding her hands in her lap. “It was before we moved here. I was about ten, and she wouldn’t let me geh over to a freind’s haus.” He chuckled. “I can’t even remember which freind that was now. But at the time I thought Mamm was the meanest woman in the world.” Esther laughed. “I tried running away when I was about that age.” “I find that hard to believe.” He guided the horse onto the street and headed for Esther’s house. “Ya, I did. I think I was nine, and I informed mei parents I was moving into the barn.” “Wait . . . You ran away to the barn?” “You know how far the barn is from our haus. At least five hundred yards.” Judah started laughing. “I thought you were going to tell me you packed yer bags and took off down the street.” “Oh, I packed a bag. It was a small paper one that had held apples.” “The ones with the handles?” She nodded. “It fit exactly one dress, one pair of socks, and mei toothbrush.” Grinning, she added, “Just the essentials.” “Of course.” He tapped the reins lightly as a car sped by. “What was yer parents’ reaction?” “Daed told me to clean the barn while I was out there.” Another laugh from Judah. “That sounds like him.” “Mamm actually packed me a lunch. She was pretty supportive, considering I was running away.” After a pause Judah asked, “What were you upset about?” “I didn’t want to share a room with Sarah anymore.” She was tempted to add that Sarah had been almost unbearably messy as a child, but that wouldn’t be fair to her sister. She was almost as tidy as Esther was now. And her messiness wasn’t the real reason. “I wanted mei own space,” was all she would admit. “How long did you live in the barn?” “Two nights, with some food deliveries from Mamm. After that she said I had to geh back in the haus. I was glad to. It was all right sleeping in the barn for a little while, but I missed mei bed. I even missed Sarah.” She glanced at Judah. “A little.” She expected him to say something about Sarah now that she’d given him the opening. But he didn’t. He stared straight ahead for a few moments. They were nearly to her house when he turned to her. “I always thought you and Sarah were close.” “We are. But we had our fights and scrapes growing up. We’re both so . . . different.” “Ya,” he said, his warm eyes drifting over her face. “You two sure are.” He continued to look at her, letting the horse take the lead. Which made her wonder—could he possibly see something in her he liked, even though she was so different from Sarah?

“Mrs. Coblentz, is there a place in town where I can buy some Amish clothes?” Rhett asked. “I’d really like to immerse myself in the full Amish experience.” Judah gripped his fork. Did this guy really think if he put on Amish clothes he would understand the Amish? Judah didn’t have anything against Yankees in general, but since he’d been working summers for Enoch, he’d been privy to the conversations of people who took the house and farm tour. Words like quaint, peaceful, adorable, and the worst one in his opinion, simple, were bandied about with regularity. He didn’t like that his faith and way of life were reduced to a few adjectives. Being Amish was more complicated than that. It took serious commitment to God and to the community. Wearing the clothes and puttering around a farm was not the Amish “experience.”

“You remember Jesse’s friend Colton—the one from his youth group? He taught Jesse to drive so Jesse asked him to give me a few lessons.” Jacob sounded proud of himself. “Jesse learned to drive a standard, so I figured I could too.” “You’ve been hanging around with Colton? Have you been to his youth group?” Her heart, already full of holes, stopped beating. The Gmay had lost Jesse and Leila to this group nearly three years ago. Leila’s mother still mourned the life she would not have as a mother and grandmother to Leila and Jesse’s growing brood, as did Jesse’s mother and father. They mourned the life their children didn’t have with their Plain families. “Are you thinking of joining Jesse’s church?” “Nee. Nee.” He shook his head so hard his hat flopped. “I never went to the meetings on Wednesday nights. And we don’t party. They’re not like that. Colton is married and so is Jesse. We eat at the pancake house together sometimes. Go fishing now and then. But they’re busy.” Not too busy to give Jacob driving lessons. He could have pancakes with his family at home. The danger of being sucked into another life was too great. Look at Leila and Jesse. Their families saw the babies once in a blue moon. Jesse almost never came around. It was too hard on his mother and father. They couldn’t bear it. Jacob’s expression, the way he stared at her with those mesmerizing blue-green eyes that reminded her of the Gulf of Mexico on a sunny day, made her want to believe him. Her heart said she could. Her head said don’t be an idiot. She couldn’t bear the thought of spending time with Jacob, only to have him choose another path. She wasn’t like Leila. She would never leave her brothers and sisters to follow him. They’d suffered enough loss already. It wasn’t about her. It was about her brothers and sisters. They all loved their new stepmother, but Susan couldn’t take the place of a sister who’d raised them from little bitty. That was that. It couldn’t matter what she needed. They needed her. Jacob didn’t. Martha climbed out of the buggy and marched past the pickup truck. “Don’t go away mad, Amish girl!” Dwayne hollered. “Dude, I didn’t mean to get you in trouble with the girlfriend.” Martha closed her eyes and reopened them, just in time to see a rut in the road and swerve right. “I’m not his girlfriend.” “Martha! It’s not that big of a deal.” “Have fun.” She waved her hand in the air without looking back. “Be safe.” He might decide to join an English church. Or he might get eaten by an alligator. Served him right.

“You like Martha.” A statement of fact without the slightest stutter. “I do.” “My mudder says I don’t need a special friend.” Naomi most likely wanted to shield her son from the hurt he would feel when girls chose men who would be the heads of the households they needed. The men who could be manns and daeds in ways Simon could not. “Do you have someone particular in mind?” Simon nodded so vigorously his straw hat flopped. He grabbed it. “I like Amanda.” Amanda. Aaron and Jolene Shrock’s special girl. Simon had picked exactly the right girl for a man like himself. She was sweet and pretty and she would see him as her equal. Which indeed he was. “Amanda is nice.” “She’s pretty.” “She is.” “Jacob will help me.” Simon clapped his hands together as if applauding. “This is gut. Very gut.” Jacob wasn’t even able to help himself. How could he help Simon? He kept his gaze on the windshield after that.

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray
This short story brings to mind a mistake, which it was, and what to do about it. The letters from the individual you fell in love with does not match the person you thought they were from. What a great concept, and all through the read you wonder who will end up with whom or will anyone?
Loved being back in Pinecraft Florida and our favorite Inn, and how I’ve missed being here. I loved that we are brought back and updated on life here.

Summer Storms by Amy Clipston
I could see both parties of this couple making mistakes that are about to come back to haunt them. Arianna has loved Jesse almost her whole life, and now they are not even allowed to be together.
Quick judgment on the part of all, and a relationship is thrown away, fictional yes, but the author has shown us that this can really happen.
Will this couple be able to over come all that has happened to them, or will they each have to travel down a different road?

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller
Esther seems to think of herself as the ugly duckling in the family, her sister Sarah seems to be the star and makes men’s heads turn, and she is the reserved quiet sister, always taking the back seat.
I loved how the author has presented a blooming flower in the name of Esther, she wears her heart on her shoulder, but the one she wears it for doesn’t seem to be able to see beyond Sarah.
Will the two you feel should be together overcome all and end up as one, or will the new comer in the form of an Englisher end up with one of these sisters. I loved this story.
One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin
We are back with our friends in Bee Country, and the author has made these families feel so real, they could be living next door.
Jacob and Martha are meant to be together, but insecurities it seems are keeping them apart. I loved the heart of Jacob, he is a man who seems to live his faith, but Martha sees it differently.
Will these two be able to find happiness, or will others succeed in tearing them apart?
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.

These stories are sweet and romantic, but also deal with some important issues the characters face as they deal with relationships and adulthood. Growing up is hard for anyone, but these stories focus on misunderstandings, trust, self-esteem, and responsibility, and how the characters manage to work through their issues to result in the happy endings we have all come to know and love from these fine authors.

These stories are the perfect length for a break from reality that doesn't leave you hanging. They are encouraging and faith-filled, guaranteed to uplift and hearten.

Upon Graham s arrival, however, he realizes he s been writing to the wrong sister. He decides to use the reunion as a way to get to know both sisters, but can he sort through the confusion in time to turn the worst vacation ever into something truly wonderful?

Novella's are so hard for me. I miss out on things that simply can't be accomplished in such a short span. The author did a really good job of taking a previous event and making it real through the letters and interactions of the participants. She set the scene of the mix-up so well that you don't feel like you missed a terrible lot. It did bothered me that he seemed so clueless and wasn't able to separate what was in his eyes from what was in his heart and head from the letters. I feel like opportunities to develop more into these characters was lacking and there were a few phrasings that seemed awkward and off. Gaa, to review a short novella in a short paragraph is hard! This was a great first story to this compilation and I'd definitely be interested in seeing these characters in a full length novel.

Summer Storm by Amy Clipston
Arianna is counting down the days until her wedding to Jesse. They have been friends longer than Arianna can remember, and that friendship turned into love over the past couple of years. But when Arianna s brother Isaac, who happens to be Jesse s best friend, gets them both into trouble, Arianna's father puts an end to her engagement to Jesse. Some summer storms pass quickly, but Arianna is afraid the damage from this one may be too much to repair.

I feel like I just read the Amish version of an After School Special. Only better. And not cheesy. The author managed to build characters, a plot, and a cohesive story in a novella package that leaves you feeling like you almost read a short full-length novel. An emotionally abuse father, poor choices as teens that affect how other's view you as an adult, and using alcohol as a coping mechanism. Any of that feel like it would easily describe any English family on any street in America? It's not just any English family in America, it's the Smucker family in Amish country. It's real and gritty and engaging and I don't think I'd want it any other way.

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller
Esther has always lived in the shadow of her beautiful younger sister Sarah. Even the boy she has known and loved her entire life, Judah, only has eyes for Sarah. But when a handsome young Englischer comes to live with the family for a summer, everything begins to change.

How do I begin to review this novella. I really liked the story in that it pulled everything together in such a sweet way without resorting too much into cliche. However, there were a few near pet peevy things that my mind keeps wandering back to. Not soap box material but well...I don't know. What bothered me the most is the way Judah and Ester's feelings changed so quickly. While it's more realistic to think that Judah did realize quickly what he had been missing with Ester, how Ester's change in thought and belief I just can't buy. When you feel backseat your entire life and someone that you care for suddenly professes their love it's not an 'oh really, I love you too' moment. It's more a are you pulling my leg, what do you want, why do you tease me sort of moment. It's a taking time to show over and over again that it's real and developing trust in new feelings. This story was sweet and engaging. The characters were well developed for such a short time span though with the 'one year later' after part I feel like so very much was lost. These characters would do better as a full length novel where their whole story could come to life.

What could have been an incredible story lost something at the edges. First, it was hard to truly get into sync with the characters as they seem to have ties into an ongoing story-line elsewhere so there was history and development that are lost. I feel like Martha uses her mother as a crutch to not make changes for herself and move forward. Don't get me wrong, I can't begin to imagine the long term effects of such an event happening at such a tender age, but she brings it up as an 'excuse' at such awkward moments that don't blend well to the story and leave me a little bamboozled. Like the first story in this book, some of the phrasing was off and read awkwardly. There were some rough scene transitions as well. I loved the side story of Simon and Amanda. This story would have greatly benefited from my knowledge of events that played out here but are obviously referenced in other books.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Kathleen Fuller and NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

Most of you know that I'm a blogger with the Fiction Guild's Elite Reader Program. I am very fortunate for this association because I'm able to receive a lot of different books that I wouldn't ordinarily hear about or see on the shelf.  Today's book is collection of four novellas by four of my mother's favorite authors - Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipton, Kathleen Fuller and Kelly Irvin.  In fact, I since I knew my mom would love this one so I shipped it to her to read, and here's her report:

"The common thread that An Amish Summer:  Four Novellas by Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller, and Kelly Irvin has is that they are four wonderful stories that share the theme of summertime.

The first novella is A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray.  Both Sisters Sherry and Sharon Kramer attended a wedding where they met Graham Holland. Sherry Kramer has been writing to Graham Holland for over six months and was looking forward to meeting him again in Pinecraft, Florida, having fun on the beaches, and hoping for a summer romance. (And you can bet we were checking out the map to see exactly where Pinecraft, Florida is located.  We learned that Pinecraft is a small neighborhood community of approximately 3,000 Amish and Mennonites located in Sarasota, Florida.)

Anyway, Sherry, Sharon, and two best friends plan the trip to Pinecraft and Graham and two of his friends will be arriving also.  Everyone had rented rooms and would be staying two weeks at the Orange Blossom Inn. But when Graham sees Sherry, he knows he has been writing to the wrong sister.  How does he tell both Sherry and Sharon about his mistake?

There is a lot of twist and turns that makes this story very interesting as one of Graham’s friends Toby has expressed his interest in one of the sisters. This is a beautiful sweet love story.

The second novella is Summer Storms by Amy Clipston.  Ariana Smucker and Jess Zook knew each other from childhood, fell in love, and was getting married in five months.  Ariana’s brother Tobias was best friends with Jess.

Tobias gets them both into trouble.  Jess is blamed by Ariana’s father Marvin Smucker.  He was upset with Jess and cancelled the engagement and forbid Jess to see Ariana.  As this summer storm came about so quickly, will Marvin Smucker learn what really happen that rainy night and forgive Jess?  Will there be a wedding?  I loved the way Amy Clipston brings everything together for a great ending.

The third story is Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller:  This story begins with Ester Coblentz watching Judah King a hired farm worker as he worked the fields with her father and her brother Reuben.  She told herself that her younger sister Sara was pretty and the talented one, and the one Judah was in love with.

Ester had known Judah all of her life and loved him but she always walked in Sara’s shadow.  She was shy and did not show her feelings since he only had eyes for Sara.  One day Ester’s father and mother announced that an English college student would be staying with them for a month.  His name was Rhett.  With Rhett and Judah working together there were a lot of changes taking place.

Will Judah ever realize the love Ester has for him?  Will Sara take an interest in Rhett?  This is a wonderful love story and I enjoyed this one the best of the four stories.

The fourth and last story is One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin.  This story takes us back to Bee County, Texas where everyone thinks that Jacob King and Martha Byler should be together as a couple. Kelly Irvin makes these characters so lovable right from the beginning.

Martha’s mother died when she was very young, she had to take care of her very large family for most of her life.  Martha is interested in Jacob but he is reckless, bad behaviors, likes to have too much fun on his rumspringa, and she does not want another child to manage.  Jacob lost his mother at a young age also.  They have a lot to talk about.

Can Jacob show Martha that he is ready to be the man that she wants?   Will Jacob join the church with Martha in the spring?  This is a wonderful love story."

Overall, this was a very good compilation of stories by some of my favorite authors. It was great to catch-up with some of the characters taken from the author's series. The characters are well written and their life experiences are relatable to readers.  I am really looking forward to the next collection of novellas coming out this fall for Christmas called "An Amish Christmas Love"!

I received a paperback copy of this book without cost from the publisher through The Fiction Guild, a Thomas Nelson/Zondervan Elite Reader book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own, or in this case, my mom's.

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray…….Shelley takes us back to Pinecraft, Florida and the Orange Blossom Inn for a story of mistaken identity. Graham and his friends and Sherilyn ( nicknamed Sherry), her sister Sharon and their friends planned a vacation in the beautiful Florida city. Graham and Sharon had a brief conversation at a friend’s wedding and had become pen pals. That’s what he thought anyway. What he found out was his pen pal had in fact been Sherry. Sherry was looking forward to spending this vacation getting to know each other. Graham, on the other hand, was disappointed to learn of the mix-up.

Graham tried to hide his disappointment when he discovered he hadn’t been writing to Sharon all that time. He started trying to figure out a way to get to know both sisters and decide which one he liked best. Kind of mean, isn’t it?

Summer Storms by Amy Clipston…..A group of young Amish people were enjoying some time away from work by relaxing at Maryland’s Cascade Lake. Among them were engaged couple Ariana Smucker and Jesse Zook. Ariana’s brother Tobias was also with them. He argued a great deal with their father and Ariana thought this outing would cheer him up. What were the arguments about? Did relaxing at the lake do him any good?

Jesse was determined to find out what was bothering his best friend and help him in whatever way he could. When he found him drinking Vodka, he was very disappointed in Tobias. No way could Tobias’ father find the bottle he had just emptied. Jessie, being his best friend, took the bottle to get rid of it. Before he could though, Mr. Smucker found out about it and thought it belonged to Jesse. He broke off Jesse’s engagement with Ariana and forbade them to see each other. What a mess he’d gotten himself into by trying to help his friend!

Does Tobias admit that he was the one with the drinking problem? Ariana’s heart is broken..will she and Jesse ever be able to marry?

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller…..The Coblentz family gave group tours of their farm and house to Englishers. Esther guided those tours. One day she was having a particularly hard time leaving her front porch to go do the tour. Why? She couldn’t take her eyes off Judah King who was working with her father and brother in the field. He was good looking, kind, a hard worker and in love with Esther’s sister Sarah.

Sarah was beautiful and had the attention of many of the Amish men in their community. For some reason, she didn’t return Judah’s affection and was always avoiding him. She even suggested he take Esther for ice cream when she told him she couldn’t go with him. Will Judah finally notice Esther?

An English man wanting to learn about the Amish came to live at the Coblentz farm for a month. Rhett was very handsome and Sarah flirted with him shamelessly. Even in front of poor Judah. Their father, Enoch suggested that Esther and Judah show Rhett around the community. Of course, Sarah was none too pleased about that. Will Sarah stop all that flirting with other men and realize what a catch Judah is? Will Judah still want her if she does?

One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin…..Kelly takes us back to visit our friends in Bee County, Texas. Martha Byler was trying her best to stay awake during church services at Bishop Jeremiah’s. The heat was unbearable and she was exhausted. She rose early to prepare breakfast for her family, helped with the meal after services and played with the little ones after the meal. Her mother had been gone ten years and she had six younger brothers and sisters. Her father had remarried but she still felt like the younger ones needed her.

Martha was mad at her boyfriend Jacob King for not keeping a promise he made. The reason for breaking his promise was a car that he had with a couple of his friends. She wanted him to get rid of it and join the church. He was trying to get back in her good graces. Because they were taught to forgive, she would forgive him but would she trust him again? Getting rid of the car was a big deal for Martha. Selling it and joining the church would prove Jacob loved her.

Dwayne Chapman was another problem. He was nineteen, married and had two kids but he acted like a child. He liked to drink and go alligator hunting even though the season had ended. He wanted Jacob to go with him and, because Dwayne was drunk, Jacob drove Dwayne’s truck and took him home. Will Dwayne ever grow up and be the husband and father he needs to be? What will become of Martha and Jacob?

Pick up a copy of An Amish Summer and read the stories of these young Amish men and women. These stories are very well written and you’ll be glad you did!!

About the Book:

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray

When sisters Sharon and Sherilyn Kramer attend a wedding in Shipshewana, one of them returns with a new penpal while the other returns to her job at the bakery. After sending weekly letters back and forth, Sherry and Graham Holland arrange a reunion in Pinecraft. Upon Graham s arrival, however, he realizes he s been writing to the wrong sister. He decides to use the reunion as a way to get to know both sisters, but can he sort through the confusion in time to turn the worst vacation ever into something truly wonderful?

Summer Storm by Amy Clipston

Arianna is counting down the days until her wedding to Jesse. They have been friends longer than Arianna can remember, and that friendship turned into love over the past couple of years. But when Arianna s brother Isaac, who happens to be Jesse s best friend, gets them both into trouble, Arianna s father puts an end to her engagement to Jesse. Some summer storms pass quickly, but Arianna is afraid the damage from this one may be too much to repair.

My Review:

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray

Sharon and Sherilyn attend a wedding and all its trimmings. Life is suppose to go back to normal once they return home--but it is anything but normal once they return. I thought that it was kind of funny that Graham thought he was writing to the wrong sister but then he was going to try and see which one he connected with better. That made me want to strangle him. It did not end the way I would of expected.

Summer Storm by Amy Clipston

The whole time reading about Arianna's predicament made me feel so sorry for her. Arianna has to find a way to convince her father that he has Jesse all wrong, but will she in time? It seems that Arianna's summer is just going to wilt in this heat or will it? Only God knows what will transpire.

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller

Esther's life seems all planned out for her already. The boy that she has always been interested in seems to only have eyes for her sister. But with summer fast approaching it seems fate or God has interfered to change Esther's life forever.

One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin

What could one kiss change? Martha has given up practically on ever finding out. She is already toting so much responsibility, with caring for her large family and then with Jacob not acting right--she feels weary on all things concerning love. But suddenly the tide starts to turn, now what will become of their love?

Amish Summer: Four Novellas

Four of my favorite authors teamed up to bring four short stories that are fun, sweet, and charming. These stories remind us that love doesn’t always look like we expect it to, no matter who we are.
In the first story, A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray, two sisters, Sharon and Sherilyn, are excited to go to the bed and breakfast in Pinecraft and meet friends. One friend in particular has Sherilyn excited: Graham. They have been writing for months, ever since meeting at a wedding. What she doesn’t know though, is that Graham thinks he is writing to her sister Sharon, whom he also met at the wedding. What happens next is a mess of confusion as he tries to get to know them both without hurting anyone’s feelings. Which sister will he truly fall for? And, will she forgive him when she discovers his pretenses and deception? Readers will enjoy watching it all unfold.
In the second story, Summer Storms by Amy Clipston, Arianna and Jesse are engaged to be married. She has loved him since she was eight years old and can’t wait for her wedding day. However, when her brother Tobias gets drunk at a party and wants to race buggies, Arianna’s father gets angry with Jesse and demands that the engagement is off. Arianna is heartbroken, but also confused. Who was drinking that night? Was Jesse drinking also, and if so, why? How can they work through it if they aren’t allowed to speak? When Tobias takes things even further than drinking, the whole family is upset and confused. What will happen next? Will Arianna and Jesse be allowed to marry? This story is sweet and fans of Amy’s will want to hear more about this family after the story ends!
The third story, Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller, tells the tale of Esther. She is a plain and shy girl, who has always felt like she lives in her sister’s shadow. Even the boy she has loved for years, Judah, doesn’t see her when her sister is around. However, when a handsome young English man comes to stay for several weeks, she soon finds herself coming out of her shell. What’s more, Judah seems to be seeing her for the first time as well. But, that can’t be right, because he is in love with her sister! As she tries to understand his mixed signals, he is trying to figure out his own thoughts and feelings. Which sister does he love? And, what should he do about it?
The final story is One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin. Martha lost her mom when she was young and became the lady of the house. She took care of and raised her younger brothers and sisters. Her father has recently remarried, but Martha is afraid to reach out and love again. What if whoever she loves gets hurt, or worse, dies like her mother did? Jonas also lost his mom when he was younger and he and Martha have shared a special bond for years. He loves her and wishes to marry her, but he is also still in his rumsrpinga, and she is afraid he will never grow up. Can she look past her fears and can he be the man she needs him to be?
All of these stories are very good. I would love to continue reading about the characters and discover what happens to them in the future. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves Amish fiction. I received a free copy of this book for my honest opinion from NetGalley.

Bring it On!

When you happen upon a novel that contains the stories of four well-known Amish-genre authors, your heart skips a beat. Well, at least mine does – especially when I have the opportunity to read Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller, and Kelly Irvin! So when An Amish Summer arrived, I said, “Bring it on!”

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray follows sisters Sharon and Sherilyn Kramer, who have made the trek to Florida for vacation…and perhaps something more. Sherry has been exchanging letters with an Amish man named Graham. Sherry and Graham have decided to rendezvous in Pinecraft. But Graham is shocked to find that he’s been writing to the wrong sister! Now he must choose who he really likes – but it’s not that easy. Who will get a match? Read and find out!
My Take: A Reunion in Pinecraft was a good, quick read. The characters were winsome, and Shelley Shepard Gray kept this reader guessing ‘til the end. Definitely a good start with this first novella of the collection.

Summer Storm by Amy Clipston tells the story of Arianna and her lifetime friend and fiancée, Jesse. All is going according to plan until one eventful night that involves Arianna’s brother (and Jesse’s best friend), Tobias. When Arianna’s dad forbids their union as a result, all plans come to a halt…and maybe that is God’s will after all?
My Take: Summer Storm was a page-turner. The story was believable and agonizing. I couldn’t put it down until I knew just what would happen! Now I want the story to continue!

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller takes you an a journey with Esther Coblentz. Esther has always struggled with comparing herself to her gorgeous younger sister, Sarah. She can’t even catch the attention of her secret love, Judah (whose smitten for Sarah.) When a handsome Yankee named Rhett comes to live with the Coblentzes, everything is turned on end.
My Take: Lakeside Love is a beautiful, charming story of summer romance. Sarah is a hoot – and the other characters are downright loveable. I’d love to go to their lake and just stay for a while. Outstanding novella.

One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin brings you to Bee County, Texas, Jacob King, and Martha Byler. Jacob only has eyes for Martha, and it seems almost everyone can see that but Martha. Martha is afraid to trust again – especially since her mother’s death. Her place is with her father, raising her siblings. Besides, Jacob is a poster child for rumspringas. Martha doesn’t need yet more responsibility. What will happen?
My Take: One Sweet Kiss was an amusing, captivating read. At one point my life had to stop so that I could finish this novella! The subplots were well-executed – I think we all know a Dwayne – and I adored the Simon/Amanda story and the way it was handled.

I was given An Amish Summer in exchange for my honest review. It was fabulous! Each novella held its own (not always the case with a collection of novellas.) This is the perfect book to take with you to the beach. Even if you’re not headed to the beach, don’t waste any time snagging your copy of An Amish Summer – it’s worth the read!

An Amish Summer is a collection of four Novella's written by Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller and Kelly Irvin. Each of these stories have an element of faith and romance that you'll love. Don't miss adding this Novella collection to your summer reading list. Each of these stories are wonderful and some of them I anticipate future stories with character development!

My Thoughts:

A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray:
Sherilyn has a penpal and has been writing letters back and forth weekly to Graham who she met at a wedding. The problem is, Graham thinks he actually writing to Sharon. He has no idea he is writing to Sheilyn. However, when he finds out, he doesn't want to hurt Sherilyn and tries to get to know both of the sisters. What sister is the one he truly is in love with and will it be too late? This is a case of mistaken identity in penpal letters and such a great read. I give this novella 5/5 stars.

Summer Storm by Amy Clipston:
Arianna has been dreaming of her wedding to Jesse. The two have been friends for such a long time, but then her brother Tobias makes some bad decisions that has her questioning whether Jesse is the right person for her to marry. Can she trust Jesse to be her husband? Furthermore, is her brother the one to blame or he the one to thank despite her anger towards their engagement being ended by her father because of the accident? This novella will have you turning the pages and wondering if Jesse and Arianna are meant to be. You won't be able to put this down until you know what happens to these friends. I loved this story and cannot wait to return to these characters. I give this novella 5/5 stars!

Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller:

Sarah has always been the beautiful sister. The men always seem to take note and Esther always feels as though she is just plain. When a young Englischer comes to stay with the family for the summer, Esther notices that Judah slowly becomes jealous of her spending time with him. Although she feels that Sarah is the right person for Judah, he gives mixed signals to Esther and she writes it off. Will Esther fall in love with the handsome Englischer, Rhett or will Sarah be able to woe him with her looks? What will happen with Judah as he has eyes for Sarah? Sounds like this could be an interesting read eh? I loved how Ms. Fuller mixed an Rhett into this story and allowed him to live with the family and experience the culture. It was an interesting turn of events. I give this novella 5/5 stars.

One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin:

The reader is taken back to Bee County, Texas where we meet Martha who is attracted to Jacob. One evening Jacob is taking Martha home, but Dwayne was breaking the law. Jacob feels the need to help him and Martha very much feels that he should receive consequences for his behavior. Although Martha isn't impressed with Dwayne, her feelings for Jacob haven't left, yet she has insecurities from her childhood budding up. Would Jacob be a responsible husband? Martha can't help but remember her past from her childhood and decides she may not be able to trust him, unless she spends a summer with him. Will things change for them? Give this novella a read. I give this novella a 5/5 stars.
