Curvy girl, Elizabeth “Liddy” Reed, has hit rock bottom. For the past five years, she’s been looking for love in all the wrong places, and her last attempt at happiness landed her in Blackbeary Creek, broke and alone.
Black bear shifter, Aiden Chambers, knows the chances of him ever finding a mate are slim. In fact, his serious, solemn personality practically dictates it. No woman wants to mate a man she’s afraid of, and outside of his clan, everyone thinks he’s either scary, unfriendly, or both.
Aiden is shocked to find out the woman who stole his lunch is his mate, but what’s even more surprising is that she isn’t afraid of him. Earning her trust and love, however, is a different story. Liddy knows Aiden is different the moment they meet, but she also knows loving him is a mistake—one that will surely break her heart when he finds out the truth about her past.
Aiden was so good. This book had me in tears from the beginning. Tears of sadness, and then tears of joy. I love dual POV of the hero and heroine but not when it comes to the same scene. Sometimes you do want to know what they are thinking in the same scene but I don't think it was needed here. It was only for a couple of scenes and just the regular POV of the hero and heroine. I also didn't think Liddy's past was all that bad. Just a lack of good judgement which we've all had at some point in our lives. Well, most of us. lol Liddy's situation was terrible though and brought me to tears but it didn't define her. Anyway, I liked Liddy (sweet girl) and I liked Aiden (rough and gruff but not mean). Great chemistry and intense passion between the two. Loved this book!
This is exactly the type of short, insta-love, shifter romance that i love. It's quick, to the point, syrupy sweet, and super hot, all rolled up with a growly, sexy as sin, posessive, bear shifting alpha male. Yum! I have only one complaint about this book, and that is how at times the heroine is kind of pathetic is her complete lack of self esteem and complete obliviousness to the obvious feelings her man/bear has for her. She's so damn wrapped up in her shame about her past and her body that she cant see what's right in front of her face. This is why I've left one star off of my rating. While i understand having issues with self confidence as i myself am very much a full figured woman, i dont like characters to be so very filled with shame. I dont understand it, and to me it comes off as unrealistic and weak minded. I know what it's like to have things about my body that i may not be happy with, but it in no way affects the way i see myself as an individual. I also would never allow someone to be disrespectful to either myself or anyone else in my presence, so i have trouble relating to such a meek, and timid heroine. With how short the book is, there just isnt any time to see the heroine's character develop and learn to love herself, which in turn would allow her to fully accept the love of her mate. Unfortunately, the issue i have with the heroine "Liddy" in this novella, is a recurring trait of most of the heroine's in not only this series but in many of the author's other books. If not for this, Ruby Shae's books would be near the top of my favorites. If she decides to write a female lead that isn't completely wrapped up in self-doubt and body shame, and that either has more, or truly develops more self confidence, it will get a 5 star review from me and will likely be near the top of my favorites list.
Humor, humility betrayal and the greatest gift love yourself so you can love others....moving book!
Elizabeth "Liddy" was alone and vunerable and taken advantage of and treated like garbage. She ran with next to nothing. Aiden the tag team security with his cousin Zach. They were apart of a clan all living on the same land a close knit family of shifters. Liddy went against her own believes and stole a sandwich she was hungry and down to her last 10.00. She had guilt but was desperate. The sandwich she stole as fait would have it was Aiden that was their first encounter. Humor, family n secrets all come into play a contemporary romance with a shifter twist. This is different then most shifter books so unique well written I completed the book too soon. Violence1, sex1
I am in love with Ruby Shae's short stories. They are really well written and I love the stories. I highly recommend them especially if you don't have time for long stories. It takes me about an hour to read most of these books.
Blackberry Creek is one of my new favorite series. I love me some hot sexy bear shifters.
I was so excited to see Auden's story out. I was missing the continuation of this series! Aiden and Liddy's story was definitely drawing me in as I was reading. He is so serious and not everyone gets him. He never thought he would be victim of the theft of...out of all things...his lunch! Shock and outrage hit him and he is bound and determined to confront to his shock a woman who ignites his bear.
Liddy, is so down on her luck. She has been in Blackberry Creek for several weeks. Now she has hit a new low...in a sandwich shop she realizes someone has not come forward to pickup their lunch. It is an opportunity she takes. Then, the next thing she knows she is being pursued by a large hunk of a man.
These two are so good together! Aiden is truly so caring but to look at him you would never know it!
I wanted a little more though....I wanted her past to be a little more present.
I look forward to Zach's story. I am hoping we don't have to wait as long.
Aiden finally got his HEA. But only after he chased down the woman who stole his lunch down an alley. Liddy knew she was wrong stealing the person lunch but she was hungry and down on her luck. But hot damn! What a hunk. But her luck changed in a blink of an eye. Instead of being angry he gave her a half his food, offered her a job and a place to stay. She was living in her car and only had ten dollars to her name. Coming to this town to a guy she thought was going to be her future after six months of online dating just to be given her the boot. She was left to live in the campgrounds. Now she's given a second chance and she doesn't want to mess it up by fall in for this hunk of a guy but hubba hubba. Aiden wanted to kiss her and tell her about his bear and she is his mate but that would scare her. They need to get it together. Get the book. Now I need Zach story.
I was so tickled when I found out from the synopsis that she stole his food and he gave chase...lol I loved the fact that he watched over her in the campground after he found her and made sure she got what she needed. I hope I find my Aiden.
I wonder who's next. I can't wait for Zach or Graham to find their mates. I wish they had given her ex an ass whooping, would have been what he deserved and more.
I really loved this book. I would have to say that Aiden was my favorite Blackbeary Creek bear so far. The brooding grumpy guy with a heart of gold always gets me. I always like Ruby Shae's books because even though they are paranormal romances the character feel real and I can always relate really well with them (or wish I was in the heroine's place lol). I cant wait for Graham's or Zach's book I want to see who will be the right for the remaining bears.
This is a wonderful series. Each one of these books can be read as a standalone but trust me you will want to read each and every one. Ruby Shae is a wonderful author.
I loved Liddy. She was this curvy girl that was just trying to survive. She was down on her luck and if someone could be called an unlucky person it would Liddy.
I can not imagine standing in a sandwich shop and wait for someone not respond to their order so you can grab it and run. But I guess being down on your luck and being hunger will make you do strange things.
Wow the fear she must of felt to have this big man chasing her. I bet Aiden was so scary looking. Aiden was a bear shifter and in human form many said he looked angry. He was not one you would see smile a lot.
This moment in time will change Liddy’s life forever. Her luck will start to change. This will mean more to her then anyone could imagine.
Reading the story of the chase that Aiden had to do to snag Liddy was entertaining. Liddy was ready for Aiden to make a move where Aiden was scared of scaring her off. So he was taking it slow.
Things will start to fall in place. I do love the moment when Liddy met his bear. It was like her heart knew but her brain did not.
This was a great story and glad I got a chance to read the book.
There isn't a book in this series that isn't awesome. Aiden falls for liddy who is dealing with some issues and yet he doesn't see all that and just knows he has to help her without scaring her away in the process.
