Before Alonzo Gaskill was a popular BYU professor and best-selling author, he was an altar boy in the Greek Orthodox Church. Discover his journey firsthand as he and fourteen others share their profound stories of conversion to the restored gospel from very different religious backgrounds. These inspiring true stories give you a new perspective on your faith.
I really enjoyed this. It was very uplifting to hear other’s conversions & testimonies especially when it seems like so many around me are losing their faith or feel like they can’t find the answers they want. I especially enjoyed/ was touched by the chapter by my very own bro-in-law
A variety of perspectives of people from many faiths was very interesting. Wish I had read this pre-mission. Very motivating for me now, though, to do my part in member missionary work
I would recommend this book to any member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because regardless of WHERE they are in their testimony or personal conversion process they could find these conversion stories interesting, faith promoting and relatable.
This compilation of 15 different journeys of trials, discovery and faith, organized in an A to Z format, beginning with Amish and ending with RLDS (and in the middle was Muslim) is a thorough exploration of where converted members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints “came from” in their life and spiritual journey.
On a personal level, I have my own conversion story to the Church and I was able to connect to many of the stories as to trials, discovery and baptism.
The book strengthened my personal testimony of the Church and in my current calling as Ward Missionary, I have been reminded that people who are not members can be influenced and encouraged to continue their own personal “journey” in many ways.
I was also reminded in one story and then the other that conversion is a process and it takes time. Sometimes a long time.
It is amazing to hear about how the Lord works in the lives of others. I was able to see some parallels in my life, even though I have been a member of the church since I was born. We are all converts to the church. We all have to find our testimonies, no matter where we started our in life. Alonzo Gaskill was one of my favorite professors at BYU and I absolutely loved his class! I’m so glad that I can still learn from him even though I have graduated.
Really loved this book! So interesting and inspiring to hear so many conversion stories! I enjoyed also learning more about different religions and their beliefs. Two things that stood out to me in many of these conversion stories is that the people were actively seeking for truth and that the Spirit is what drew them to our Church.
This was an interesting read about people from various religions who have converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or Mormonism. It was interesting to read about their reasons to investigate a new religion(s) and what set Mormonism apart from others.
Good reminder that we are all converted. Interesting stories about individual challenges and benefits related to moving from major religious faiths to Mormonism. Everyone has challenges, everyone gained a testimony.
I love seeing the personal touch of God's guiding hand and the iindividual thought processes that guide His children one by one back into His presence.
