"If we are going to reproduce Christ on earth and be Christlike, we must have the spirit of Christ!" — A.W. Tozer
Viewed by his contemporaries as a preacher and writer with a prophetic edge, Tozer had a powerful effect on people. James Snyder has done a masterful job of selecting and transcribing sermons from his private collection of rare recordings, and has also captured Tozer, the man, in biographical essays laced with anecdotes and personal material that only a seasoned researcher could find.
Tozer's books reflect a unique blend of genuine piety and downright common sense... He challenges every sort of spiritual pretension. — Charles Colson
Tozer is timeless ... Whenever my heart needs to be rekindled, I seem to find myself eventually turning to Tozer. — Dr. Bruce Wilkerson
My life and leadership ... continue to be challenged by Christ's "high call" as enunciated through Dr. Tozer's writings. — Jack W. Hayford
Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").
Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.
A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.
I've read this once and am reading it again. Content-wise, 5*. Editing, not so starred. My copy has lots and lots of yellow highlighting.
Tozer preached: "D.L. Moody said that the length of time a man prayed in public was sure to be in inverse proportion to the length of time he prayed in private."
One of my favorite quotes: "Friends, you'll never know the Lord very well until you have died to your property and yourself and your future. and all the little things you hold dear."
Tozer was an amazing preacher. This is a collection of 10 of his sermons, selected by the author based on the theme, "the burning heart."
Aiden Wilson Tozer most certainly had a heart that burned for God. He was only educated through the eighth grade, but was always a voracious reader. After accepting Christ as a teenager, he went on to pastor churches in both the United States and Canada, as well as host a radio show and write several books.
AW Tozer's loved the Lord, was passionate for Christ, and had little time or thought for anything else. He was consumed by the Lord, and it shows up in these messages.
One of the things I enjoyed about this book was the study questions in the we back. Each chapter/message had several questions for review. This helped settle more deeply into my mind and heartl each of the messages in the book. A very helpful addition.
Dieses Buch ist nichts weiter als eine Auswahl einiger Predigten von A.W. Tozer. Diese Predigten sind zwar teilweise ganz gut, aber ich erwarte von einem Buch etwas anderes.
