About the author

Colette was the pen name of the French novelist and actress Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. She is best known, at least in the English-speaking world, for her novella Gigi, which provided the plot for a famous Lerner & Loewe musical film and stage musical. She started her writing career penning the influential Claudine novels of books. The novel Chéri is often cited as her masterpiece.

j’ai aimé
j’ai eu du mal à rentrer dedans au début, j’ai mis du temps à le lire
Mais sous la canicule lyonnaise, je me suis re-confrontée à cette écriture, à ce manuscrit
Et j’ai eu raison,

« C’est la Hugo féminine » C a raison, je le sais, elle écrit vraiment bien et je l’admire mais je n’ai pas été assez assidue pour le comprendre

J’aimerais le relire un jour, d’une seule traite, peut-être au bord de l’eau, que sais-je

Intriguing read. The idea that in 1888 author Edward Bellamy was able to imagine the year 2000 as he did is awe striking. It was difficult for me to get passed the socialist ideas, but I made a decision to continue reading to gain an understanding for the sentiment of the times and see what one might envision life in America in more than a century.
