Two stuffed puppies take to the skies to rescue some of their toy playmates in this sweet picture-book from author Michelle Meadows and illustrator Dan Andreasen. Navigating their way around the features of their home - the adult people are mountains, steam from a tea-kettle is fog - they eventually succeed in retrieving their compatriots, and all the toys are back where they should be, when their children walk in...

Pairing a simple but entertaining tale told in rhyme - "Start the engine, / buckle up. / Down the runway... / Pilot Pups! / Rolling faster, / lift up high. / Soaring, roaring - / to the sky" - with cute illustrations, Pilot Pups would make a good bedtime selection for younger children. Although not a particularly earth-shattering picture-book, it is a fun, lighthearted look at that perpetual childhood question - what do our toys get up to, when we are not paying attention to them?

Pilot pups is a good read for those wanting a playful way to show students about clean up time. You can read the book before or after then ask the students what their favorite rhyming word was or pause and comment on how the pups are steering the airplane.

My favorite part of this book would be the illustrations. Such cute toys. It's a fun flying trip, too, which makes me think the toddlers will enjoy this. I just have to think some more on what to have them do.

12/9/15 Used in preschool for Things We Love at the Holidays: Presents, these guys being toys. I had us starting our engine and flying. They got involved and it went well.

I found this book by chance and immediately thought it would be great for a storytime. I used it in both an all-ages storytime and in a toddler storytime and discovered it's much more likely to catch the attention and fancy of a younger set. The illustrations and text are darling, and I'll probably use it again with little ones, but not with an older group.

I have read this book approx. 1000 times since it is one of Isaac's favorites. He has parts memorized and recites them at random times throughout the day....

Stuffed animal puppies fly around the house just like they would if a young one was holding the plane. Good for toddler storytimes.

Toy dogs go on a pilot patrol to make sure none of the toys in a boy's room go missing. A fun filled exciting high flying read. It will sure beg for a "read again" from your child. BR

We learned flying planes is great fun. Pups think they can fly but they cannot.
