Possibilities: Perseverance, Grace and the Story of One Family's Life With Leukemia

Rate this book
Brennan Simkins was diagnosed with a rare subtype of leukemia on his 7th birthday. The next four years gave witness to one of the most improbable and exciting stories in this history of modern cancer. Unwilling to accept a hopelessly terminal diagnosis, his parents found the one researcher willing to design a new treatment protocol to keep him alive until a new cure could be identified and tried. This brutal yet beautiful story elegantly chronicles the innocent gracefulness and indefatigability of will that inspired Brennan's doctors and transformed the hearts of people around the world. Possibilities is a beautifully written, real life drama about the fighting spirit of one little boy who loved life, his brothers and was unwilling to give up. It has changed lives and turned the world of conventional cancer treatment upside down.

The Possibilities are endless...

This book could have been a maudlin tour of a pediatric cancer diagnosis. Instead it is a hope filled journey through one families war against cancer and loss. Simkins writes with grace and truth.

The book is arranged with blog postings that share the fear, the honesty and pain of the diagnosis and treatment of his young son.

This book was a fast read, if only to find out if Brennan won the battle. A second and third readings allow the reader to discover the spiritual journey.

This is a tough book to read. Honest, gritty, hopeful. I read it because I have a grandson with AML and will be undergoing what Brennan went through, hopefully not as extensive. The book reads like a blog from which it is taken from, but you can't put it down once you are locked in.
