Rate this book
Six Steps to College Success is written for students who want to take charge of their own learning. Originally developed for graduate, medical, dental, veterinary and nursing students, these evidence-based techniques proved to be so successful that undergraduate students requested their own version of the book. The new field of Educational Neuroscience draws from the disciplines of education, psychology and neuroscience. We have been drawing from these same disciplines of study for over 20 years! Much of the recent research in educational neuroscience better explains WHY the strategies we have been teaching are so effective.

This study system will help you retain the information presented in your classes, textbooks and labs and will teach you to: Reduce stress by developing a manageable schedule; Get the most out of lectures; Use critical thinking to organize essential information; Create highly organized notes for easy review and self-testing; Recall and apply information for exams and laboratory work; Improve long-term memory Increase concentration; Reduce test anxiety; Take exams with confidence.

E-book and Print Versions

Six Steps to College Success is a workbook. It is available in both print and electronic versions. An advantage of the e-book format is that it allows the reader to visit many of the linked resources. A disadvantage of the e-book format is that readers are required to download the quizzes from a related site, use the notes function on their device, or use pen and paper. Completing the quizzes and exercises are an integral part of the learning strategies taught in Six Steps, so choose the version of the workbook that will work better for you.

I was happy to add Six Steps to College Success: Learning Strategies for STEM Students to my collection of professional educational books. STEM is a an acronym referring to the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The idea is that the success of students in the four areas of STEM is linked to the future success of the United States, which has placed more emphasis on the four areas of achievement for students. As an educator, classes are offered to train teachers in promoting these four areas of education and integrating them into all fields of study. Six Steps to College Success: Learning Strategies for STEM Students gives college level students guidelines to increase success in the four fields of STEM.

My thanks to Kathleen Straker, author and to Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for my copy of Six Steps to College Success: Learning Strategies for STEM Students that I won and plan to share with my best friend's four sons going to college in the fall.

No Page Numbers

Dissatisfied. No Pages Numbers. Instead; bottom right where page numbers go; strange “n%”.

When assigned pages in a course, the instructor assigns a range to be read. For example, pp. 100-135.

There’s however no way to know if I read the assigned pages.

Pages numbers on ebooks need to be the same as the page number in the printed on paper text in the book. It’s otherwise not eligible to be considered the ebook version. If it’s not the same meaning Focus content isn’t on page 135 in both formats….then is very inconsiderate to the buyer who wouldn’t expect to be harassed by trying to figure out like a map and maze what page in the ebook is the page your supposed to be reading.

The model that this book had for students in the STEM to become better learners is outstanding! I definitely recommend for any student who is attempting to hone in on their own study skills!
