In today’s media-saturated world, our definition of courage has shifted toward rating-generating displays of heroism, causing us to lose sight of what it means to be truly brave with our voice, our stories, and our truth.
When We Are Bold is not only a celebration of women peacemakers and the activists they’ve inspired, it is a call to courage. A call to all of us who have allowed activism to be defined as something that other people do, to those of us who have orphaned our voice and our story, and to every woman and man who has struggled or borne witness to injustices that left their hearts flooded with truth and stories that need to be spoken.
When We Are Bold: Women Who Turn Our UpsideDown World Right is a collection of 28 short profiles of women who boldly work for change by the women writers, thinkers and doers they inspire. This unique collection will bring you up-close and personal to famous women from around the world – including Jane Goodall, Nawal El Saadawi, Gloria Steinem and Wangari Maathai — as well as to women who should be famous. These stories, and the women who tell them, are proof that ordinary women do extraordinary things.
This book highlights women who have done amazing things around the world!! There were mostly names of women that I had not heard of but yet they have really made some changes for their countries and the world!!
This book shows that anyone can effect change in their community.
Really interesting snippets of stories - mini essays by women about other women who have been inspirational peacemakers and activists. I think I would have appreciated some balance though; I know it’s the name of the book, but what about the men? Also the mini nature meant that some stories felt far too short - though the onus is then on me to seek out (though then there are so many women profile that that would be very difficult)
A wonderful collection of short biographies of a variety of women from across the globe making drastic, peaceful changes in their countries and the world told by other women whom they inspire.
