Beautiful Fall

When Elizabeth Rivers purchases a row of historical beach cottages to renovate for the family’s luxury resort, she’s worried her new project won’t live up to the high standards of the Rivers family name. Little does she know, that’s not the thing she needs to worry about. Not at all.

Because along with the cottages comes a little problem called Brett Carmichael. Brett freaking Carmichael, historical contractor and son of Lizzy’s nemesis, a woman who mere weeks ago brutally smeared her name through the papers over a property dispute. The last thing Lizzy wants is to deal with that woman’s spawn.

But one reckless moment ignites the downright dangerous chemistry between them, and Lizzy soon learns that Brett Carmichael is a force to be reckoned with. She seems helpless to stop him from claiming her, body and heart, but she’s not so sure she’s able to do the same to him. It turns out, there’s plenty more in his family history to worry about. The reality is, his heart may not really be hers for the taking.

J.L. White's writing is like comfort food for me. Whenever I pick up one of her books I know I'm going to get a good romance with lots of steam. Beautiful Fall was no exception.
This is the second book in the Beautiful Rivers series and I have a feeling I'm going to love this series just as much as I loved her original Firework Girls books. The more I'm drawn into the Rivers family, the more I want to hear about them. I love the relationship they have, and it makes my heart happy to read about them. Brett and Lizzy are perfect together. Their relationship feels like it's coming from a genuine place. You don't wonder why they are together, you KNOW why they are together. And can we swoon for a minute over how sweet Brett is with his son. Dads that are great with their kids make me happy.
This book does end with a perfect happily ever after. I was all smiles and happy tears at the end. Nothing better. While the romance does have a happy ending, there is a subplot that is left as a cliffhanger. No worries though, because the next book comes out tomorrow. I'll definitely be reading it.

JLWhite strikes again in the second book in this series of the Rivers siblings. I couldn't wait to get started because I wanted another glimpse of Connor and Whitney from book 1 Beautiful Mine by J.L. White which was one of my favorites this year.

Elizabeth didn't really stand out to me in book 1 but that makes sense since it was Connor's story (and I loved him). In this story Elizabeth's struggling to develop/rehab some private cottages and add it to her family's top of the line hotel. It was refreshing to see a smart, intelligent woman be confident in her business decisions. What was a little troubling was that confidence didn't seem to necessarily translate to her personal life. This woman is smart, sharp, and squared away yet she seemed to have a lost girl quality to her when it came to her love life. Maybe it was a reflection on the abrupt loss of her parents who she loved and was extremely close to.

Then there's the sexy man who can build things while competently and lovingly taking care of his young son. I'm a sucker for that man always. I enjoyed the fact that Brett wanted to succeed in his business, take care of his son, and wanted his ex-wife to get it together for his son no matter how badly she'd hurt him during their marriage.

The passion and chemistry between Elizabeth and Brett was realistic and I liked them together. What I didn't love was Brett seemed to place Elizabeth second a lot (which I understand with a young child) and kept her and his son separated for too long. I felt like that played into Elizabeth's relationship insecurities and she deserved better than that from Brett who was really a good guy.

Whenever I receive word that something new is coming from J.L. White I get super excited. I know I'm in for a wonderfully romantic, steamy sexy, hilarious good time.
Coming back to Swan Point in Beautiful Fall is like reuniting with old friends. I loved meeting the Rivers family with Connor and Whitney's story and felt same connection with Lizzy and Brett.
With tension from a strongly opinionated mother, a troubled ex wife, an adorable four year old and continued grief I was on pins and needles praying for these two. Lizzy and Brett deserved happiness and forever love. When you do find love and that "One" you just know.
Side note: who is Mason??!!!

J.L. White's Beautiful Fall is the second book of the Beautiful Rivers series. Amazing!! This author knows exactly how to write the most appealing story, page by page, chapter by chapter, to draw you in in such a way that you cannot put the story down until it's finished. That is the sign of a talented writer that is able to portray their stories in a way that is addicting to the reader.

I'm fast becoming a fan of JL White's books. This is the second book in her Beautiful Rivers series. Elizabeth has bought some cottages and is renovating them. In a turn of events, she ends up working with Brett Carmichael, the son of a woman who publicly humiliated Elizabeth. Who would have thought he'd be so charismatic and handsome? Brett and Elizabeth had such amazing chemistry. I know it can be hard to be the better person even when you've had your name dragged through the mud, but Elizabeth was still so gracious and good. It was easy to like her and realize who was really at fault. Brett was also a good guy, and he needed Elizabeth the way we need air to breathe. Well written and such an enjoyable book with great character development. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Another outstanding book from J.L. White!

I absolutely love Connor from Beautiful Mine, the first book in the Beautiful Rivers series by J.L. White. When I began reading Beautiful Fall, the second book in the series, I was a little nervous about meeting Brett. I mean… how can anyone compete with Connor? I am not sure how, but J.L. White did it and I absolutely freaking love Brett!

Brett Carmichael was hired by Lizzy’s contractor, Rod, to help with the reconstruction of some old cottages. Brett and Lizzy resisted their attraction for each other, but the chemistry between them was sizzling from the start! The only problem is that Brett’s mother has been fighting with Lizzy and her brothers over conservation land. Will Brett and Lizzy’s relationship survive all of the complications that they face or is it doomed to fail?

Beautiful Fall is a wonderful story full of desire, angst, and so much passion! The characters are well written and I felt completely enchanted by Brett!

I absolutely recommend Beautiful Fall!

A definite one-click buy!

I read this book back in 2017, but apparently I didn't leave a review. I love this author and after reading the fireworks girls, its a no brainer to know to read her other works. But if you needed more convincing, reading book one of the four in the Beautiful Rivers Series, will have you convinced. This is book two in the series. Each book is written as a standalone, there are no cliffhangers in this series. no cliffhangers, that alone is practically enough to get me willing to read a book. But honestly if you started reading this book, I can assure you that you will be sucked right in. And as you learn Lizzy's character, you get to learn her family too. Each book adds a new family member, a new love, and a new drama trying to stop them. But you need Brett and his son for that too. You just have to read to see why.
