Miss Amy Clipston’s books just get better and better! “A Dream of Home” has really lead up to “A Simple Prayer” (coming April 2015), which I just can’t wait to read! I also love how Madeleine’s name is spelt! That’s all I can say for risk of spoilers! ;)
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Zondervan) for this review.
As can be expected of Amish fiction, Amy Clipston’s A Dream of Home offers a sweet, clean romance with endearing characters and encouraging themes of faith, family and home. Madeleine and Saul have both been left brokenhearted from previous relationships and together, their growth and healing create a fascinating, heartwarming journey, mixing Amish and Englisch, throwing in a few twists and turns for good measure. Fans of Amish fiction – don’t skip over A Dream of Home.
However, I should give a fair warning: as the third novel in the Hearts of the Lancaster Grand Hotel, A Dream of Home has many appearances from previous main characters, as well as references to their stories – which I am sure that fans of the series will definitely enjoy. Since I have not read either of the previous novels, I was confused at times – but I just kept reading and eventually I put enough pieces together to sufficiently understand the backgrounds and the roles of these characters in the newest story. And though this certainly provided a bit of challenge in my reading, it did not detract in any way from my enjoyment of A Dream of Home. So, readers new to the series should not be afraid to pick up this third novel (though it could be a good idea to start at the beginning. I know I’m eager to go back and read A Hopeful Heart and A Mother’s Secret now.) Overall, Cliptston’s A Dream of Home is a great novel for any Amish-fiction reader and I would recommend it.
Thanks to BookLook Bloggers, I received a copy of A Dream of Home and the opportunity to honestly review it. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own. (I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”)
It’s been a while since I read the second book in the series, but I am really enjoying the interwoven plotlines. I felt bad for Saul in book 2, so I was glad to find out more about him and his backstory. Emma was such a cute little girl, and I loved her interactions with Madeleine. Barbie wasn’t in this one as much, which was fine by me because I don’t like her at all.
I am excited to read book 4 and see how the series will conclude.
Amy just makes all her characters so real you feel like you’re living there right beside them with their experiences in the story. I love it so much. And the ending! I would be screaming if I had to wait for the next installment. Thankfully I already have it. Off to book 4. Happy reading lovelies!
A Dream of Home is on my top favorite books of Amy Clipston’s. I have loved this entire series but I connected with Madeleine more than I thought I would. I’ve never served in the military, nor have I experienced a loss the way she has but there was just something about her that made it easy for me to relate to her.
This was a heartwarming love story that brings together a man and a woman in desperate need of healing. Madeleine and Saul both have emotional trauma in their lives caused by the ones that they loved and both must come to terms with loss so that their hearts can be open to love.
There were moments when I was so frustrated with Saul for judging Madeleine but then I thought about how hard it is to trust someone with your heart. It’s even harder when you have a child that you need to protect. I guess like real life—we often look at things on the surface and we never once consider the heart and how it may be hurting.
This is the third book in the Hearts of Lancaster Grand Hotel series. The fourth installment, A Simple Prayer is expected to be published on May 5th 2015 by Zondervan.

After the death of her fiancé, Maddie returns to her Amish grandmother’s community. Though not raised Amish because her own mother left that community before Maddie was born, she feels like she has found a balm for her wounded soul and has come home. This third book of the series continues with some of the characters from the previous books, and centers on Saul and his young daughter Emma, who develop a friendship of sorts with Maddie. But they are Amish and she is English, and that complicates their friendship. This plot is intriguing, as these characters, who have all suffered from being left and abandoned in some form, try to find solace with the help of God and their community. Be warned! This book ends on a cliffhanger, and you will enjoy the series more if you start at the very beginning. (Do you hear that? The hills are alive with the sound of music . . . )
This is another excellent Amish book by Amy Clipston and it was hard to put down!
Madeleine moves back to Paradise, Pennsylvania and into her Amish grandparents' home which she's inherited. She doesn't make it an "English" house, rather she's enjoying the simplicity of the Amish lifestyle without being Amish. Madeleine befriends the widowed neighbor, Saul, and his young daughter, Emma, who quickly becomes very special to her.
Despite his efforts to keep his distance, Saul develops feelings for Madeleine and Emma considers Madeleine her best adult friend. This creates a dilemma for both Saul and Madeleine since Saul wants to stay true to his Amish faith and Madeleine isn't Amish. There is good tension in the story related to this. Emma is delightful in this story!
If you like Amish fiction, I recommend this book (and the first two books in the series).
Madeleine was a former Air Force nurse, but when her Air Force pilot fiancé lost his life by his own hand, she felt as if she had been widowed. She longed for a peaceful life and decided to return to her grandparents' Amish community.
Saul was a single father to his daughter Emma and a cabinet maker by trade. He had been living a lie to his daughter about her mother.
When Madeleine moved into her grandparents' old home, she shared what had once been the family farm with her neighbors Saul and Emma. Though she tried to be friends with them, an uncomfortable distance remained because she was an Englisher.
Nevertheless, as life happened, Saul and Madeleine found comfort in friendship. But, when Madeleine took a huge step out in faith, friendship just might have led to something much more.
When Madeleine moved to Lancaster Pennsylvania, she hoped to gain some peace, relaxation and rest from her nightmares.
She inherits her Grandmother's home, and her neighbor Saul and his daughter, who live right next door, purchased the land and farm from Madeleine's grandparents.
Saul, whose wife left him and his 4 year old daughter, is very reluctant to be come friends with the English lady, afraid that she will leave them, and break his daughter's heart.
It is through living back in this Amish community, that meant so much during her childhood, that Madeleine discovers, she has in fact come home and knows just what she must do.
I am loving this series. Madeline has come back to where her roots are. She has moved into her Amish grandparents home. She was raised as an English ear as her mom left the church years ago. She had lost her fiancée who suffered from psd. She meets her neighbors daughter who has fallen in love with the little girl. At first she thinks her dad is rude and not friendly. As time goes by Saul begins a friendship with her, but then breaks things off because he can’t have a relationship with an Englisher. Can they work this out.
Another good book in the series. Madeleine spent many summers with her Amish Grandparents and has returned to try to deal with the trama of her boyfriend's death and also all of the things she had dealt with as an Air Force trama nurse. She received her grandparents house after the death of her grandmother.
Many new people are in the story but they are all woven together so well, that you can still follow all of them easily.
The ending is a cliff hanger so I would advise to try to get several of the books to read as soon as you can. Starting # 4 today!
This was by far my favorite book of the series. The plot between the two main characters pulls you in immediately between the heart break and trauma and love wrapped all into one. Hearing the story of Madeline’s husband dying gave us a super close look into the character and made me develop feelings for someone who’s not even real. And Solomon’s back story about his wife pulls at my heart strings every time, especially imagining the daughter his wife left behind. This series is close to my heart and one of the reasons I love reading to this day.

Madeleine home to Paradise, Pennsylvania a place she had spent summer at. The nightmares of being a flight nurse, and losing Travis. All she wanted now was peace and quiet. A heart that starts to live again, being around Emma. A young child , with a father who is raising her himself. She too knows of the loneliness. She questions if she had been raised Amish, as her Mother had, but leaving to marry. Choices, some a person makes, others it’s Gods direction. A other good story in this series.
The tragedy in two people's lives brings them together. One finds the home she has been longing for and a new beginning. The other learns to put aside the mistrust he has been holding onto and accept the new feelings he is experiencing. So many twists and turns, ups and downs. Great reading! I recommend this book to those who likes a good love story that actually has a story
Ohhhhh good!!! Saul finally got what he deserved!! I’m so excited to hear how their story unfolds! It was really cool to see the different spin, especially with the military background, it was such a fun detail for Amy to incorporate into the story! I’m glad Maddie finally locked in on what she wanted and did what she needed to do, not just for herself but also for Saul and his daughter. Can’t wait to dive into the last installment!!!
Although, yet again - not the book - It's very good
Trying to catch up on reviews, but the keep cutting me off and I can't figure out how to edit. Again, the book is excellent. However, two things in particular are bothering me. What is the difference between setting up a generator in th barn/
Madeleine inherited her grandparents home in Amish country and moved into it. She soon grew to love her Amish friends especially Emma Beiler and her father, Saul. Eventually she decided to join their community. We also learn more of Trey and Hannah, and Joshua and Carolyn. I love how their stories are interwoven together and make a heartwarming book.
Good read, I liked the way the story built, however, I did not like the abrupt ending that left me turning the page for the rest of the story, only to find the book ended!
Ok this is my favorite in the series. I loved Saul, Emma, and Madelines story. I also love how the author has kept other storylines flowing through this series. With the end of the book I can tell the final book will be very interesting.
Madeleine, an Air Force nurse, and Saul Beiler, an Amish man whose wife left him and his daughter for another man, face rebuilding their life after tragic losses. This is part of the Hearts of Lancaster Grand Hotel series.
3.5⭐ It was quite good heartwarming book.. Idk if it's a stand alone book or u have to read the whole serie but I just read this one I feel that the story needs more chapters to reach the ending.. It's very open and I hate that
