Devotions on the Greek New Testament, Volume Two: 52 Reflections to Inspire and Instruct

Rate this book
Devotions on the Greek New Testament, Volume Two contains an entirely new set of 52 devotions written by over 25 of today's best biblical language scholars. Contributors include Christopher Beetham, Jeannine K. Brown, Peter H. Davids, David A. DeSilva, J. Scott Duvall, Nijay Gupta, Frederick J. Long, David W. Pao, Anthony C. Thiselton, Cindy Long Westfall, and many more.

The main point of each devotion in Devotions on the Greek New Testament, Volume Two comes from a careful reading of the passage in the Greek New Testament, not from an English translation. The authors use a variety of exegetical approaches in their devotions - including grammatical, lexical, rhetorical, sociohistorical, and linguistic - and each devotion closes with a practical application or spiritual reflection.

Devotions on the Greek New Testament, Volume Two contains a devotion on every book in the New Testament and can be used as a weekly devotional or as a supplemental resource throughout a semester or sequence of courses. These devotions will inspire you to keep reading and meditating on the Scriptures and find new treasures from the biblical text.

Excellent Greek devotional book. Great insights and reminders for students of Greek. Definitely written to those who have studied Greek, as it assumes that knowledge, but so helpful to see how Greek can help enrich your devotions. I loved both volumes and wish there were more!! Hopefully they consider doing a third volume sometime.

Highly recommended to pastors and seminary students... This helped encourage me to keep up with my Greek more regularly.

This is volume two of the Devotions on the Greek New Testament series. I like reading through these because it helps in keeping up on the Greek that I know. The quality of the devotions varies—in some it feels more like a Greek grammar lesson than a devotion, but in others there are just excellent devotions in which they draw out things that one cannot see simply from reading the English text.

Provides some great insights into the text by walking carefully through the original Greek. Sometimes assumes the reader has attained a certain level of Greek, so I think this is aimed more at students than someone like me. I struggled on occasion to follow the more technical/grammatical insights that provided little translation. Other than that, a useful tool.

This a great book which gets you deeper into the Greek text. There's a lot of grammar and technical info in some of the chapters which is helpful. The downside of this book is that some authors leave us with lots of analysis without enough emphasis on devotion.

This volume two has all the good features of volume one but seems to have stepped up to more challenging passages and more sophisticated grammar insights. Certainly a good review and learning insight for those who want to keep their usage of koine Greek polished.

These sorts of books are fantastic for anyone interested in NT Greek. Either to help you reflect on the text or learn it a bit better.
