I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, Call to Honor, and jumped at the chance to read this sequel Both stories are concerned with the men who form the Poseidon team of elite Navy SEALs, their interactions, what happens to them and their search to discover just who is betraying them...... Whilst this story could be read as a standalone, I believe readers will benefit from reading the series in order as
Elijah Prescott is one of the team. Life has been traumatic for him in recent years . . . his marriage ended in divorce not long after their baby son unexpectedly died, he's sustained serious burn injuries whilst in action and the whole team have been betrayed by one of them, something they're finding hard to accept. Elijah decides to take leave to give himself more time to recover from all that life is throwing at him and returns to stay with his cousin, Mack, who runs a gym. He didn't anticipate encountering his ex-wife so soon after returning, or to discover how much she's changed in appearance and attitude as she's now kick-ass hot - an instructor in the gym in many different aspects. As the two reconnect, their chemistry is still volatile but with the past something they still need to discuss and the mystery of who has betrayed the team, things aren't going to go smoothly for this couple.
This is an action packed story of a strong team of men striving to uncover treason, betrayal and deception whilst protecting those they love. It is fast paced with strong characters, hot action, uncertainty and plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing in anticipation. The leading ladies all have their own strengths and are key to many events - and there's also a delightful young boy involved, too! Another enjoyable read from this talented author - I can't wait for the next book in the series to be available :)
Many thanks to the publishers for agreeing to gift me a copy of this book via NetGalley. This is my honest opinion after reading the novel.
Call to Honor was a really great start to this series and this installment only confirms to me that this is definitely a series for the keeper shelf. CALL TO ENGAGE is filled with drama, intrigue, betrayal, passion and emotion, and of course the bonds of brotherhood the team shares which are sure to be tested again and again. Unlike the previous book that left me grinning from ear to ear, this one left me in a pensive mood, even though I really enjoyed it.
Lieutenant Elijah Prescott overcame the odds to recover from physically life-threatening injuries from his last mission, but emotionally he's still battered and bruised and needs some time off to get his head back in the game. Meeting his ex-wife for the first time in four years was not a part of the plan, especially with the pain and baggage from their marriage, but this may be the opportunity he needs to deal with their past loss and pain and get over it or try for a second chance with the only woman he's ever loved.
Ava Monroe was once a socialite concerned with shallow pursuits until she got a wakeup call from life that cost her a lot. She now lives a much simpler and controlled life but one encounter with her ex-husband has her jonesing for a taste of the passion that was never in short supply between them. Only, this time it will be on her terms and she will gladly walk away at the end of their interlude.
The only problem with this is that both Ava and Elijah have not dealt with the issues that destroyed their marriage four years ago or their feelings for each other and this may be their one chance to do so. With Elijah's team dealing with deadly betrayal from one of their own, the timing couldn't be more wrong but for Ava, it's revealed a weak, thoughtless and selfish side to her past self that did not give her husband what he needed.
I like that while the team drama is a major part of this book, the focus was actually on Elijah and Ava's relationship and the personal growth they had experienced since their divorce. Elijah made my heart hurt for him. The physical and mental wounds from the attack and the potentially career-ending rumors of his involvement in criminal activity were a lot to deal with, but when added to the personal loss he never dealt with, it just felt like a crushing weight. I'll admit that Ava was not my favorite character initially but she redeemed herself by the end of the book.
The revelations from their former team member only add more intrigue to the team's drama and I can't wait for the next book to find out what direction Ms. Weber takes the story in.
Disclaimer: I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely mine.
I have become more of a Tawny Weber fan as I keep reading her books! So far her books have a great story filled with a lot of background and great swoon worthy relationships!!
This book follows Elijah who is recovering from a bad mission and trying to get his life back on track while figuring out what happened. Elijah is an elite Seal whose life has been dedicated to serving his country. This book also follows Ava who is Elijah’s ex-wife. She is also working on getting her life back on track. Elijah and Ava have a very sorted history that the author does an amazing job peeling back one step at a time.
This book is part of the Seal stories from Tawny Weber, but you don’t need to read the entire series to follow along with the book. This can be read as a standalone with no issues as the previous characters are reintroduced.
The chemistry that the author creates with Elijah and Ava is awesome. It is a second chance romance, but it works for these two!! I am totally swoon worthy over Elijah. I love the bond that the author created between the two of them. The author created a hard backstory for the characters, but it really connected me and brought the characters to life.
The story flows very naturally for me and is easy to follow along with. The author does go into some military terms, but very brood and it doesn’t feel overwhelming.
The story follows Elijah and Ava while trying to figure out their relationship, but also involves what happened with Elijah in the military. I loved that we got a romance with a mystery thrown in. I also enjoyed how the author brought all of the characters to life with great backstory.
I would suggest this as a perfect beach read over the summer. The story is very fast paced and easy to follow along with. I found it difficult to put the book down.
I received a copy of this book from Barclay publicity to provide an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of this book.
Second book in the Team Poseidon series and it is better to read the first book if you can. Elijah has been betrayed by a team member. And a marriage to Ava that went horribly wrong.
Ava is strong and has moved on to rebuild her life. She works at a gym.
Elijah stays with his cousin after her gets out of the hospital and guess who owns the gym? Yep, the cousin. Ava wants to keep it professional and Elijah would like more.
The Commander wants to find out who betrayed the team.
Another great read by the author and you will not want to miss this book.
This is the second book in the Team Poseidon series and is better read after the first book. It continues the story of the Poseidon's quest to find one of their own who betrayed them all. In the process we get to know Elijah who was severely injured in the betrayal and Ava. After a devastating tragedy, Ava divorced Navy SEAL Elijah Preston. But when circumstances bring them together again, old feelings resurface. This novel by Tawny Weber featured her trademark romance and suspense that are standard with her SEAL novels. A solid addition to the series and I look forward to more of Team Poseidon.
This second chance at a HEA for Lieutenant Elijah Prescott “Rembrandt” and his ex-wife Ava Monroe has Elijah taking some R&R to think through the issues bothering him. Elijah and Ava never really talked things through before they divorced and it has festered as they moved forward with their lives. Ava is no longer a pampered princess and Elijah is not as sure as he once was. Add in the fact that the Poseidon team is looking for one of their team that turned into a traitor and you have the romance, the team, a mission and a lot going on. I wasn’t thrilled with Ava but did like Elijah. I was glad that Ava finally matured a bit by the end of the book. I am looking forward to reading Nic’s story next and believe that will wrap up the Team Poseidon trilogy.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – this is my honest review.
Elijah and Ava never had any trouble communicating between the sheets. It was outside the bedroom where the difficulties began. The pampered, only child of wealthy, controlling parents, Ava was not prepared to be the wife of a Navy SEAL. In truth, she never tried to be, letting her fear and her mother's continual attempts to sabotage her marriage to Elijah rule her. When tragedy struck, instead of turning to her husband in their shared grief, Ava ran - from her pain, from her fear, and from her husband. Four years later, Ava may think she has her life together but until she faces the pain, loss, and fear that ended her marriage, she'll never be whole or completely happy.
Elijah Prescott is one of the good guys, putting his life on the line for his country and his SEAL teammates. He's moved on from the divorce he never wanted but he's never forgotten - or stopped yearning for - the only woman he's ever loved. Recovering from a serious injury in a mission gone wrong, Elijah has been cleared physically to return to duty. But the emotional scars of being betrayed by a friend and teammate who is still on the loose are slower to heal. A three-week leave sends Elijah to his cousin's gym in Napa and, unexpectedly, straight into the arms of his ex-wife. Will this be the second chance they need to right the wrongs of the past and move forward together or clear one another out of their systems for good?
Call to Engage packs sizzle, action, suspense, and a deep emotional punch into a story that kept me invested in these characters and their journey from beginning to end. Weber takes time with both Elijah and Ava, not focusing only on the off-the-charts sizzle between them (though I thoroughly enjoyed the sizzle!) but slowly unveiling the emotional minefields that undermined their marriage. Ava, in particular, has years of issues to confront before she will ever be wholly happy, whether with Elijah or on her own. Weber handles those issues with compassion in some cases, tough love in others, and no easy fixes, grounding her characters in the reality of grief, emotional upheaval, fear, desire, hope, acceptance, and love that many readers have faced and to which we can relate. Add in a traitor on the loose, a team of hard-bodied SEALS, and a life or death race to protect a child and you have another satisfying, heart-grabbing, breath-stealing winner from Tawny Weber.
Though I had no trouble reading this book as a standalone, there are events that occur in book one, Call to Honor, which I believe would have made reading Call to Engage an even richer experience had I read them in order. I'm already looking forward to the next Team Poseidon book, Call to Redemption, scheduled for release on October 31.
This is the second book in this series and I am loving them MS Weber knows how to bring to life these SEALs who are driven by honour and strength and to protect, and they also know how to treat a woman. This is Elijah Prescott’s story a time for Elijah or Rembrandt as he is called by the team to work out a few things that have gone wrong lately and to perhaps reconnect with the only woman that he has loved and he is going home to do so and what a journey it is sit back and enjoy.
Elijah has been injured and then the next mission was a bit of a disaster so it is time for him to head on home and get this sorted maybe catch a traitor and find his ex Ava the woman that he has never stopped loving and the woman he needs to sort out what went wrong before and that first meeting between them after four years is angsty to say the least but it does show that the spark is still there, now if only they can talk and with Elijah’s cousin Mac helping push them together that spark is sure to light.
Ava Monroe has got on with her life after the sadness of what was a big part of their break-up and has changed her life dramatically she is no longer that person who was influenced by her parents and quiet, she is now strong fit and desiring Elijah in so many ways so she is going to let her bad girl out and enjoy a sensual fling for now it is just what she wants. But when there is danger from within the SEALs and Ava agrees to help this is pulling them closer in so many ways.
I did love this story there is so much happening and the love that has always been there between Elijah and Ava shows through danger and past hurt yes there were tears and smiles and big cheers as Ava stood up to the bad guy and let her feelings out. Another one for the keeper shelf and one not to be missed Team Poseidon are the best and I am really looking forward to Nic’s story thank you so much MS Weber for hours of reading pleasure.
review posted at: http://booknerdloleotodo.blogspot.com Copy received from TLC BookTours for an honest review Fun! Fun! and Fun! This was my first Tawny Weber book and my first Team Poseidon book. What an energy filled story with angst, and passion! First when the story begins, Lieutenant Elijah Prescott is in very bad shape. It's obvious that although his body has healed, mentally he is not over the disaster that was his last assignment. As part of one of the most elite teams in the Navy-Poseidon. Elijah has a huge responsibility to his team and to himself. When his team starts to question his capability the mental exhaustion really gets to him.
Ava Monroe is Elijah's ex. After their failed marriage, Ava has done everything possible to make sure that her life is tidy and kept. She has everything in control and wants no unexpected surprises. When she is reunited with Elijah she is flooded with all her old feelings and she soon discovers that she has been protecting her heart from the only person she has loved. This was a great second chance romance. There is definite romance and chemistry between Ava and Elijah it was satisfying to see them finally find each other.
I love this series. Add a totally alpha male hero, an ass-kicking kick-ass heroine and a great cast of supporting characters and you get one awesome book. Can't wait for book #3 in this series.
I read an arc of this book in exchange for a review. I found the story dull and uneventful. normally the other stories flow better and keep my attention but this one wasn't my favorite.
Call to Engage is the second novel in the Team Poseidon series, and I'm very glad I read the first novel in the series, Call to Honor, because although this novel can be read as a standalone, having met the myriad cast of characters in the previous novel made it much easier to understand the SEAL team and it's members, the botched mission that forms the backdrop to Call to Engage, and the relationships between the characters. At its heart, this is second chance at love story, and I liked it marginally less than its predecessor, and it gets a 4-star rating from this reader.
The two principle characters are Elijah and Ava, who were once married and had a baby boy who died of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). When they met and married Ava was a socialite princess, raised by wealthy parents who totally disapproved of Elijah, a Navy SEAL, thinking him nowhere near good enough for their pampered princess. This couple's marriage was mostly sexual--they generate enough heat to run a power plant, and because of Ava's upbringing, she never really wanted to understand or discuss Elijah's job, his issues, the horrors he faced on a regular basis. She hated the fact that he wasn't home 90% of the time, and when he was home it was mainly about the sex, but losing their son while Elijah was out of the country and couldn't be reached for days ended their marriage and they divorced.
Four years later, Ava has moved on with her life. She still mourns the loss of their son, which she's never fully faced or dealth with, but has rebuilt her life on the physical rather than emotional--she's all about fitness and strength. She's taut, toned, focused and working at a gym owned by a cousin of Elijah's, Mack. She's an instructor in several self-defense disciplines, body building, strength training, yoga, meditation and massage, and she can kick butt and take names. There have been no men in her life since her divorce and that's just the way she wants it--no commitments, no regrets. She happy and content with her life, or so she tells herself, but that's about to change one day when she heads off to give a massage and the body on her table is Elijah's.
Elijah Prescott is a wounded warrior, an elite Navy SEAL in an even more elite unit of 12 such warriors, Team Poseidon. One of his legs had been severely burned when an op went south, and one of his comrades betrayed both the team and his country by turning traitor. He's now experiencing night terrors and flashbacks and although he's been deemed ready to return to his unit, he requests 3 weeks off because although he'd love to get back to the job he lives, he knows that he's not 100% ready. Having no permanent home, he plans to spend that time with his buddy and cousin, Mack, and he's just as surprised to see Ava as she is to see him. His still harbors a deep love for his ex-wife, there's lots of emotional baggage they both carry, having never fully dealt with the loss of their child, and it's not long before these two end up in a just-for-now sexual relationship again. That's all Ava says she wants, but is it really?
In the foreground of this novel is the search for the SEAL turned traitor--is there only one traitor among them, or is an accomplice hiding in plain sight? The primary suspect hasn't been seen since the explosion that wounded Elijah and no one is certain whether he died in the blast or escaped. There's even some suspicion that Elijah may be a mole, but that's about to change. There's lots of action and suspense in the latter half of the novel, sometimes almost too much tactical material, as the team tries to get to the bottom of the mystery, plan a trap for the traitor and try to flush out the accomplice, and all those strategy sessions, in this reader's opinion, detracted a bit from the deeply emotional side of the story.
All in all, this was a very good and deeply moving read, with well-drawn characters and a compelling story line. As I mentioned at the outset, this is a series that should be read in the order written. I'm very much looking forward to reading the next installment in this series.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
Exciting continuation of the series and second chance love story. Team Poseidon is searching for a fellow team member who has betrayed his country and his team. The first book, Call to Honor, involved discovery of the treachery and finding out that the man hadn't died during the mission after all. This story is about Elijah Prescott, one of the victims of that same mission. He has mostly recovered from his injuries, but still suffers from some emotional fallout. Elijah heads home on leave to decide what to do about it, and also finally deal with the failure of his marriage. He did not expect to find Ava so changed from what he remembered.
Ava has finally gotten her life back together after the devastating events of her marriage. She had been young and insecure, and the death of their baby created a gulf between herself and Elijah that she didn't know how to handle. Since then she has turned her life completely around and has the strength and confidence to handle anything - except Elijah's return. One encounter with him reminds her of the passion that had always burned hot between them. She refuses to risk her heart again, but maybe a short fling will help burn out the flames.
I loved the rekindling of their relationship. Elijah and Ava had never taken the time to talk about what had happened after the baby's death. Instead, Ava had run away and Elijah had buried his grief in his work, and they hadn't seen each other again. I ached for Elijah, whose emotional hits have built up to the point where he questions the very essence of who he is. Seeing Ava, who he has never forgotten or stopped loving, sends him reeling. The changes he sees in her only make her more appealing to him. Ava is blown away by the strength of the attraction she still feels for Elijah, but she is also afraid of it. The extreme control she has on her life has kept her heart safe. If she lets him in again, she may never recover if it goes wrong. I loved Elijah's determination to show Ava that they can make it work. This time he is ready to share his fears and dreams, if only he can get her to listen. I got frustrated with Ava because she kept ignoring Elijah's attempts to really talk to her, just as she had when they were married. It wasn't until she allowed herself to get involved that she truly understood him and what made him the man he was. I also loved that Elijah came to respect the kick-ass woman that Ava had become and wanted to do whatever was necessary to give their relationship a chance. I loved their big moment at the end as they finally fully opened their hearts and overcame their fears to take a chance on the future.
The suspense of the story was really good, as the remaining members of Poseidon do their best to flush out the traitor and bring him to justice. Added to the difficult is the suspicion that there is someone on the inside who is helping him. It was fascinating to see the measures they took to find out who it is. The way that someone is targeting Elijah to make others believe that he knew what was happening was creepy and frustrating. I ached for the team members, who were dealing with the fallout from the betrayal, and for their commander who is determined to find the answers. The buildup to the final confrontation was intense. The confrontation itself was exciting with plenty of surprises to go around, not the least of which was who brought the bad guy down. There is still a loose thread dangling, which I hope will be tied up in the next book. I also hope that there will be stories for the other team members.
I probably should read the first book, because I get a feeling that a little of book 1 feeds into book 2. However, I’m managing okay. We have the mission with the group, and the group is trying to find out if Ramsay is still alive. We also have Elijah who is dealing with the aftermath. Then his ex-wife is brought into the story. They still have issues they haven’t solved.
Anyway, I struggle with Ava. Seriously struggle. Some of my perspective comes from being a military spouse. True, being a military spouse is never easy. I mean there were sometimes when I didn’t know what was going on with my husband job. It happens. Anyway, she couldn’t hack it. One of my big issues with her was when she was with him, but she wasn't really with him. He was at his duty station while she was still in area where her family was. I wonder what she would have down had he got orders to another location. That is beside the point; she was listening to her family more than her husband, which can cause a lot of contention and resentment. She totally blamed him, and using him as a scapegoat. They honestly need counseling, but she didn't want to deal with the issues at hand, so divorce was the easy answer. They have been divorce for sometime in the story, but I had to get my feelings about Ava out. I didn’t like her, because she didn’t the effort into her marriage. So, they still had these issues when they come together again. I did like Elijah, because he was trying to come to terms with the relationship, but it’s kind of hard when one person stonewalls you.
Through most of the book I struggle, because I didn’t like Ava. A lot of my dislike came from the fact that she didn’t accept Elijah for what he did. Granted he’s a SEAL, but one of the things the military stress is actually family. You need a strong support at home to do the job. Ava didn’t understand that in the beginning. It was until she was asked to help that she finally understood the mission. Overall, Call to Engage wasn’t a bad read. I truly liked Elijah. Ava had to grow on me. However, the ending was worth it, because Ava learned something important. She actually grew a lot in the story. It wouldn’t seem like it, but she did towards the end.
The author has an interesting way to grab the reader’s attention. Left me thinking that I won’t be going anywhere for a while. Even though this is part of a series, I don’t feel you have to read the books in order. But in order to understand the group of men that Elijah Prescott works with, you may just want to make sure to read all the books that come out in this series.
Elijah “Rembrandt” Prescott shows us that being in the military takes a very special person. And that not every person can handle all that goes with the job. But they fool themselves into thinking they can handle it all by themselves. And there’s really only one person you can rely on. Right?
Ava Monroe has a life where she won’t allow anyone to suffocate her spirit. It’s interesting to see what a person might do so that they won’t get hurt. Then a blast from her past ends up in her clearly organized world and turns it upside down. She has a good friend named Chloe that keeps things real for Ava. Chloe has her rethinking life and choices. Mack is an experience. He has a connection with both Ava and Elijah – wouldn’t mind meeting him.
Loved the “reunion” scene between our two main characters. Wouldn’t mind being on the other side of the door. And the scene after was kinda funny – wished I had been there in person. The author does a great job at weaving Elijah’s two lives seamlessly through the story. Not sure which one held my attention more. One had mystery and suspense. The other was watching a painful past creep into the present - bated breath to see if it will lead to a future. Also loved how great some of the secondary characters were. But they didn’t overtake the story so that we would lose our focus on who this story was really about.
The author gives us our happy ending but also gives a hint as to the next book coming out in November. You won’t realize it as you read this book, but one of the secondary characters is up next. If you’re a fan of all things SEAL, you will enjoy getting to know this group of men and the women that come to love them.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This was another great edition to Tawny Weber's Team Poseidon series!
In Call to Engage, difficult subjects dealt with - for Elijah, betrayal by a team member, physical and emotional aftereffects of an assignment gone wrong - for Ana, a very personal tragedy that occurred during her marriage to Elijah a few years earlier, and a difficult, strained relationship with her parents - all of which makes for different angles within the story.
And that is precisely what makes this a wonderful story! We really get to know what the characters are truly thinking and feeling as they deal with these different events - how it has shaped their lives and how it impacts their future.
Ava Monroe is a strong, disciplined woman, both physically and mentally. After suffering an enormous tragedy during her brief marriage to Elijah who was gone quite a bit of the time, she rebuilds her life in a regimented way in the hopes of not risking her heart to anyone again.
Lieutenant Elijah Prescott has finally been released from medical care after an assignment that went seriously wrong. He's taking some leave to try and figure out exactly what he wants to do and if he can still be effectual with his SEAL team. He decides to stay with his cousin Mack who runs a fitness gym where, unbeknownst to Elijah, Ava works.
Part of this story surrounds Ava and Elijah becoming reacquainted both emotionally and physically - Ava wants to keep it physical (and physically they're very hot!) while Elijah would like something more. Can they get beyond the past and build a future together?
Another part of the story surrounds the betrayal of a team member, one who has caused irreparable damage to members of the team (and loved ones) and to the team's credibility as a whole. How will their commander, Nic Savino, guide the team in discovering who the betrayer is? How do they apprehend him? Here's yet another angle in the story.
If you enjoy stories with second chances, SEALs, and/or suspense, you will want to read this! You will not be disappointed!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, however, this is my honest opinion.
3,.75stars-CALL TO ENGAGE is the second instalment in Tawny Weber’s contemporary, adult TEAM POSEIDON romantic, military suspense series focusing on the Navy’s elite Poseidon SEAL team. This is Lieutenant Elijah Prescott and Ava Monroe’s story line. CALL TO ENGAGE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as there is an on-going premise throughout.
SOME BACKGROUND: When their latest mission in Afghanistan goes horribly wrong, leaving one member injured and one man missing and presumed dead, the Team comes under suspicion when military secrets are discovered in the hands of the enemy. Betrayal and vengeance find the SEALs facing court martial including the take down of their Lieutenant Commander and the dismantling of the Poseidon Team.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Elijah and Ava) CALL TO ENGAGE follows in the aftermath and recovery from a mission that went all to h*ll. Suffering life threatening injuries, Elijah returns to a broken marriage, and the woman he has never stop loving but a woman who is unable to let go of the past. Lieutenant Elijah Prescott must face the betrayal from one of his own, while trying desperately to prove he is worthy of a second chance even though the woman he loves is often selfish and self-centered to the point of breaking the heart of the man she once loved.
The relationship between Elijah and Ava is one of second chances but a relationship destroyed by one woman’s selfishness. Elijah has never stopped loving out story line heroine but betrayal comes from within, as our hero struggles to uncover the truth.
The secondary and supporting characters are determined and dynamic including several of Elijah’s teammates, all of who have been betrayed by someone they trusted
CALL TO ENGAGE is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, forgiveness and love. The premise is captivating and engaging; the romance is passionate; the characters are desperate and dynamic.

Tawny Weber is known for writing stories with sexy Navy SEALs. I have read many of them that were part of the Harlequin Blaze line. This is the second book in the Team Poseidon series. Uh, not sure how I missed the first book, but I did. Bad me!
This is a novel of second chances. (God I've been reading a lot of these lately) Elijah and Ava were married before and they are very different people now, but they still have feelings for each other. Ava is now working in a gym. Ava reminded me a little of one of Tawny's past heroines with that career choice. If you've read her Uniformly Hot series, Ava reminded me of Livi.
Ava and Elijah are very hot when they are together. Tawny makes those scenes full of spice and steam. I wish I could say I loved Ava, but she wasn't quite my favorite heroine. She's the type of person, I know I'd avoid in real life, not that she would't be a nice person, but she was way to "health conscious" for me. Definitely suitable for a Navy SEAL wife, but not for someone's BFF.
Her back story with Elijah is a pretty sad one, which is why I couldn't hate her. Her family was controlling and she really didn't find her inner strength until after their relationship dissolved and she lost a child while married to Elijah.
The driving force of this story was the mission involving the dirty SEAL and the possibility that another member of Poseidon might be bad as well.
The rekindling romance of Ava and Elijah was a little ho hum for my tastes, it just happened, with a small amount of conflict, but not enough to make that part of the story interesting enough for me. It was more, Elijah is back..and boom...they are falling back into things together.
I enjoyed this book, especially getting to know Elijah's team members. I can't wait to read this next book. (and the first)
When I was younger, I was never concerned with showing up late to parties, the whole fashionably late thing and all, but now, I hate being late. I say this because, once again, I'm late to an amazing party in Tawny Weber's Team Poseidon's party, and I could kick myself to be honest. I'm new to this series, and yes, I know that I would probably be better off reading the first book, but she's such a talented writer that I wasn't completely lost. AND I won't be fashionably late to her party again that's for sure, as I'm hooked completely! Elijah Preston's team was betrayed by another Navy Seal team member, which had a mission go horribly wrong. Now he's on leave, and instead of relaxing, he's on his own mission; one to find out how the last mission almost killed him, and two, getting his ex-wife back. Ava has put her life back together after a devastating tragedy which had her divorcing her husband. Now that's he back, she finds that feelings that she though she got past are coming back with a vengeance. WOW I couldn't get enough of this intense and suspenseful story! These particular Navy Seals are extremely mouth watering, drool worthy men that I need to find in real life. I talked a bit about Ms. Weber's talented writing style above, and it's so awesome, that I'm going to mention it again. After this one book, I'm completely, and utterly addicted, so now I will be waiting for more Team Poseidon impatiently. The twists had me yelling loud f-bombs, and I still have so many questions, so while I wait, I'm going to read book 1 now! So if you get anything out of this review, let me that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading this exciting piece of sexy goodness to ALL!
An emotional, passionate, and touching romance story with a touch of danger and suspense. This story has a heartfelt, in-depth look at the sacrifices, challenges, and the instability that military families live with on daily basis, how the service to the country affects those serving and to those who are left behind waiting for the homecoming. The nightmares, flashbacks, and losses the service personal faces and come home with were described with raw honesty as well as the terrors that they carry with them rest of their lives. Oh, there was sweet, hot romance and constantly present danger, even one on one action and palpable fear for their lives, but the mental battle of survival and learning to live with the images of the war as a constant companion in your head as you close your eyes, that is what was on my mind as I finished the story. Elijah Prescott and Ava Monroe's love story started years ago. They had faced the difficulties, the challenges, the troubles, the pressure, and expectations from their families. Yet what ultimately drifted them apart was a devasting loss of life. There's no question about if Elijah and Ava love each other, needs each other, desire each other - that is palpable in the air, a tangible force pulling them together. But the growth, the maturing, learning to accept, to be open, to communicate, to make compromises, to dare to take the risk and the leap of love, that is what they have to learn and figure out if it is worth to betting everything on their love. Call to Engage had the elements that I expected with romance and suspense, but it had so much more as well with the mental and emotional concerns of the protagonists, the anguished battles of their minds and hearts. ~ Four Spoons with the teaspoon on the side
Call to Engage by Tawny Weber is the second book in her Team Poseidon romantic suspense series which features tough, honour bound SEALS, who form an elite Team called Team Poseidon tasked with sensitive missions that only these special trained SEALS can complete, and their strong, independent heroines.
I adored the first book, Call to Honor and was eager to get my hands on the next book. It is better to read the first book before you read this one because the action and the mission continues from there to this book.
In Call to Engage, we get Lieutenant Elijah Prescott's story who I met in the previous book. He is an intense character who is still recuperating from a mission gone wrong and also facing suspicion of being in cohort with anti-government forces. He travels back home to rest and sort his life and comes face to face with a past that left his heart bruised and broken.
The romance is intense, hot and emotionally rich. The plot is crisp and so engaging that I could not keep the book down until I had reached the very end. Loved the chemistry between Elijah and Ava. Both are strong characters and have faced situations that left them unhappy and blaming each other. It shows the writing prowess of the author that narrated the events of the past in such a way that we get both sides of the story and could empathize with both Ava and Elijah.
There is drama, intrigue, betrayal, love, loyalty, suspense, espionage and full on entertainment in this book and I strongly recommend it to all lovers of suspense and romance above the age of eighteen.
Eager to read the next book, I give Call to Engage 4.5 stars out of 5.
I received an ARC for review and the above is my honest opinion.
Lieutenant Elijah Prescott also known as Rembrandt was part of the Poseidon team of Seals. They have been trying to find Ramsey, the Seal that betrayed them, hurt one of their own, and committed treason. They know someone is helping Ramsey stay out of sight, but they don't know who. Elijah decides he needs time away to determine if he wants to stay with the Seals. Elijah was the Seal that was burned in the fire Ramsey set on their mission. He is divorced from his wife Ava Monroe that he still loves. Four years ago, their four month old baby died from SIDS. Elijah was away on a mission and took him awhile to get back home. Ava would not talk to him after that and they divorced.
Ava has changed her life and works with Mack, Elijah's cousin in his gym. Her body is toned and she has certificates to teach many forms of self defense. Elijah goes to his cousins to get away and runs into Ava. You will need to read the book to see what happens.
This book is great! It has action, suspense, sadness, happiness, children, and love. You will not want to put this book down. It is my favorite so far in this series. I loved that Ava got away from her smothering parents and changed her life around physically and emotionally. Elijah has been a Seal for 12 years and the team is his family. He loves what he does, but he also loves Ava and feels a hole in him without her. I loved seeing how they were both telling themselves they weren't getting back together, but just trying for closure. I strongly encourage you to read this book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
The past happened and all you can do is to move forward. However when confronted with your past, that’s a whole lot easier said than done.
Ava Monroe knew about that. She had married, she had lost and she had dealt with it, right? Except when she runs into her ex husband, then she isn’t really as sure. She is a different person though now. She is stronger and wiser now. She can deal with this and anything he throws at her.
Elijah Prescott was a SEAL, he could do anything that he wanted to. He was strong enough to fight his way out of the situation, well anything physical that is. Faced with his ex wife and their history that’s something that he just can’t figure out how to deal with.
When things get complicated and even involve national security Ava and Elijah have to figure out how to deal with not just their past relationship but their future as well. Throw in a crazy terrorist and all heck will break loose.
Wow, this is a continuation of a fantastic series by Ms. Weber. She has taken her SEALS and done this amazing story line that manages to make you cry, make you smile and make your heart turn inside out. Everything is described in vivid detail, perfectly balanced dialogue and internal thoughts. This story will break your heart into a million pieces but before the story ends it will be rebuilt even stronger than you can imagine. There are not enough good things to say about this novel. Get it, read it, love it.
Book two in Tawny Weber's Team Poseidon series is even better than the first as the team digs deep to try to flush out the traitor in their midst! We get to know some of their history better and go on a crash course of his past with Elijah as he works through some issues. A powerful group of men who know how to show their soft side when dealing with the friendships they hold dear!
Lieutenant Elijah Prescott is still trying to pick up the pieces of his sanity after his last mission went haywire. He's heading home on leave to try to figure out what life holds for him now. He's just expecting the relax and regroup, he didn't know he'd be running into his ex-wife and have the past reel him in again!
Ava Monroe thought she had moved past their history, but seeing Elijah brings it all screaming to the front again. Their marriage suffered great tragedy and instead of turning towards each other to heal, it split them apart. She turned away from him and found a way to heal herself enough to become a stronger, independent person. The attraction between them rears it's head as soon as they cross each other's paths again, so instead of trying to fight it, she decides to delve right back into it and get it out of their systems so she can go on with her life once he's gone again ... what she doesn't count on, is actually getting neck deep in a mission with him and having to learn how strong her love for him really is!
Second in the Team Poseidon series, we return to trying to understand what went wrong with a mission that revealed a SEAL who turned on his own, but why remains unclear. The chaos in the wake of that treasonous behavior has Lt. Elijah Prescott still hurting and plagued by horrendous nightmares. When he decides to take a leave to get his head straight, he ends up encountering the woman he'd married and then lost after the death of their baby from SIDS.
Ava Monroe has changed her life from that of pampered princess to kick-ass exercise guru and black belt, all to get over her disastrous marriage. Her boss wants her to buy into his gym, but is she ready for that? And even if she wants to, how is that possible when her trust fund is not yet available to her. And just as she thinks she got a handle on everything, Elijah shows up again, giving the lie to her intention to be over him.
Further complicating their respective lives is Elijah's boss's plea that Ava help the team when they set a trap for the man who nearly killed the SEAL team's reputation and Elijah's life. Sure, she is capable to taking care of the little boy who is in danger of being kidnapped, but it's not the boy who turns out to be in danger. It's Ava herself. The question then becomes, does she dare to ask for help from Elijah and will he rescue her in time? A great sequel to the first in the series, one that sets us up for the third installment.
The second book in Ms. Weber's Team Poseidon series did not disappoint! This one follows "Rembrandt" (aka Elijah Prescott) as he and the Poseidon team continue to try to find the missing traitor who eluded them in the last book. Elijah's also struggling with his future--is it still in the military? as a part of the Team? or does he have a second chance with his ex, the only woman he ever loved? Does making one of these choices exclude the others?
I loved Ava--she truly is a kick butt heroine! Fingers crossed that we'll see more of her and Elijah in the next book (which is Nic's; whose story I do want to hear--but what about Jared and Andi??? You're killing me here, Ms. Weber...and now I want to know more about Ava's BFF Chloe and her story too, darn you) just as we got a bit more Harper and Diego in this one :)
Call to Engage would work okay as a standalone if needed--the pertinent details that you need to know from the first book are explained--but everything's going to work better all around if you know the whole story. Plus, it'd be impossible to know just a little about these characters and not want to know all--so you might as well put the whole series on your TBR and save yourself the trouble ;)
Rating: 4 stars / B+
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Elijah/Rembrandt had devoted his life to the Navy and his SEAL team. His marriage had ended when a tragedy put too much pressure on the precarious relationship. A mission gone wrong had left him needing months of recovery. While the team was under suspicion from a rogue team member, Elijah returned home to family, friends, and the one woman who had and still held his heart.
This a story filled with a love threatened and rocked by loss, emotions, characters worthy of the feelings they will instill in the reader, and plenty of steam. Along with the aptly named mission, the story of a love both people feel but are fighting will pull you in.
The author never disappoints with anything less than a compelling story and this is no exception. I love the team of honorable men and their women. I hate the pain Elijah and Ava go through dealing with the issues between them. I want Ava to admit her problem while understanding why she can't. These are people you will care about, cry with, and cheer them on hoping they will work through the issues that separate them.
I can't wait for Nic's story next and seeing how the team is doing. This is my honest review of this advance reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
