OMEGA: A Black Flagged Thriller (Book 5)

A joint U.S.- Russian Special Forces raid against a hidden laboratory yields an alarming discovery. Anatoly Reznikov, the deranged bioweapons scientist stolen from U.S. custody a few years earlier, vanished minutes before the attack--taking his deadly work with him.

In the United States, Beltway power brokers grapple withTrue America's surprise presidential win, finding the new administration to be anything but easy to work with. Karl Berg, demoted within the CIA due to the sudden shift in agency leadership, seeks to stay out of trouble, and retire quietly--a task he finds impossible when news of Reznikov's near-capture unofficially reaches his desk.

Oblivious to the growing threats domestic and abroad, Daniel and Jessica Petrovich finalize their plan to abandon the "Black Flag" business for good, only to have it delayed by close-hitting news. A last minute trip to the United States drags them closer to an unfolding plot in the heart of Washington D.C.
A plot connected to everyone and everything the Petrovich's have touched. A diabolical conspiracy none of them saw coming--AND ONLY ONE GROUP CAN STOP! Book 1: Black Flagged Alpha

Steven graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993, receiving a bachelor of science in English literature. He served the next eight years on active duty, traveling the world as a naval officer assigned to various Navy and Marine Corps units. His extensive journey spanned the globe, including a two-year tour of duty in Japan and travel to more than twenty countries throughout Asia and the Middle East.

From enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iraq as a maritime boarding officer in the Arabian Gulf, to directing aircraft bombing runs and naval gunfire strikes as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) assigned to a specialized Marine Corps unit, Steven's "in-house" experience with a wide range of regular and elite military units brings a unique authenticity to his thrillers.

He still wakes up at "zero dark thirty" to write for most of the day. When "off duty," he spends as much time as possible outdoors or travelling with his family--and dog.

Steven is the bestselling author of ten novels and several novellas, including a commissioned trilogy of novellas based on the popular Wayward Pines series. His canon of work includes the popular Black Flagged Series, a gritty, no-holds barred covert operations and espionage saga; The Perseid Collapse series, a post-apocalyptic thriller epic chronicling the events surrounding an inconceivable attack on the United States; and The Fractured State series, a near future, dystopian thriller trilogy set in the drought ravaged southwest

Konkoly has a strength in setting up the execution of an action section of the book and this is a wonderful talent to have. He also does a good job painting the world these characters live in. For me, there are too many players in the book and they do not stand out so it was hard for me to keep track of everyone.

Exciting action grabs you from page one...

I really enjoyed this thriller, the latest in the Black Flag series from Steven Konkoly. Great characters who have become friends,in suspenseful plots, you can't put the book down! The only problem is this book does set up for the next, so some things are not finished, which leaves me with too many questions. Pick this up for suspense and action, it is very good!!

Should Deserve at least 4 Stars, but it doesn’t

This story is definitely a continuation of the previous books. While it has some definitive pieces of the story that can’t be taken back in the next book — this book just seems to run around in circles and doesn’t provide the Reader with much, except a rather abrupt ending. The Author previously alluded to a 6th and final book, which was withdrawn from this story — and you can tell because this book is lacking things. There is also at least one example of the Author mixing up names, where the paragraph in question identifies the person being discussed, rather than the name that should have been written. (That is, that paragraph didn’t make any sense.)

Anatoly Reznikov is one slippery dude. Everyone who says that they want him dead really wants him. He is the deranged bioweapons scientist responsible for two attacks thus far. And, he has gone missing again but who sponsored this disappearance?

True America is in the White House and all bets are off on the president upholding former pardons for Sanderson’s Black Flagged program. Karl Berg’s recent demotion within the CIA is a testament to this major concern. Now, Karl finds himself and some of his friends on someone’s hit list.

The Petroviches are trying their best to disappear when Jessica receives some news she cannot ignore. She hopes that she will be able to bring closure to a particularly painful part of her past. As usual, nothing is as it seems and Daniel must stay even more vigilant.

All of this is connected in the most sinister of plots.

Konkoly’s fifth novel in The Black Flagged Series, Omega, will have you on the edge of your seat. This is a thrill ride like no other once you get past the introductory background material. The twists keep coming and they are all intertwined. Anything that can go wrong seems to figure out a way to do exactly that. It is hard for the players to stay up with, much less ahead of, those that would have them dispatched.

My heart was pounding time and time again as close calls were coming faster than the characters could keep up with them. The implications at the end are mind boggling and set you up for Konkoly’s newest series The Zulu Virus Chronicles. I can’t wait to see how these two series run parallel from here.

5 out of 5 stars.

First off, this is a thriller - so some suspension of belief is necessary. But as the sixth book in the Black Flagged series (since there is now a recent issue of a 4.5) it keeps together Konkoly's crew of agents, agencies, and more revolving around a bizarre, alchoholic lunatic Russsian virologist who loves to create deadly viruses, the folks who are hunting him down and the conspirators who are out to take control.

My general rating for books in a series is 4; this one gets a 5 because Konkoly adeptly refreshed the backstory of the series and his subtle discussions of previous events evoked them for me. That says that 1) the series is memorable, and 2) his writing is good.

If I have any quibble, it's that I doubt that a lot of my friends would enjoy the constant death-dealing and paeans to weaponry. This is dark stuff. Kidnapping. Torture. Executions. Gunfights. Torture. It puts the thinking reader in an interesting position - given Konkoly's background, is it possible stuff like this actually happens? If so, it doesn't say a lot about the workings of the world. If not, then he's got one helluva dark view of things.

In any case, there's undoubtedly more to come. Looming on the horizon is apparently a conspiracy to remake America, propelled by the placement of organized mercenaries around all major cities. Should be fun to see how he develops the next book.

We are presented with another hard-hitting, fast-moving journal of the Black Flag team. Reznikov’s luck holds out and he once again avoids a permanent end to his scheming. On the national front, True America has made a successful bid on the White House and are busy replacing political ranks with their own people. It is also suspect that they are involved with much more than the usual political objectives. The Russian political forces are not sitting idly by either. Much is happening; many people are disappearing, and it is unclear who or what organization is behind the turmoil. Daniel and Jessica have made plans to intentionally disappear themselves, but a friend in dire trouble puts an end to those plans. Welcome to another exciting chapter in the Black Flag saga.

Fantastic! I think the next book will be out sometime this year. I really hope it's soon. When it comes to government conspiracy I don't think it gets better than this. The series builds to a climax. The people, the men and women willing to give their lives for their/our country are magnificent. The people willing to give their lives to destroy their/our country in order to rebuild it to fit their idea of what True America should be are frightening. How close they are to success when Omega ends is terrifying. This series is very realistic. It makes this seem entirely too possible. Steven Konkoly I can hardly wait for the next book in the series.

Omega is the fifth book in the Black Flagged series. These books can each be read as a standalone. But each book builds on the previous storylines so I suggest you read them in order. There is a lot of violence and torture.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. There are clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what will be revealed next. It definitely kept me reading. Overall it is an interesting storyline and worth taking the time to read. I can’t wait to read more of this series!

Dan and Jessica want to break free.

The continuing story of General Sanderson's pursuit of the mad genius Reznikov takes us on a tour of Russia,India and Germany while nipping True America's sinister plan to "reorganizing America". The Petroviches, after witnessing Jessica's mothers death and her attempted kidnapping by her former mentors, decide they want to leave the group to retire after this one job.
Good luck.
For fans of Tom Clancy or Barry Eisler, it's a continuing series.

I have read all of Vince Flynn/Kyle Mills books and all of Brad Thor books and they were great. I was satisfied that no author would ever write books that would entertain and excite me as those two/three authors. However, Konkoly has shattered that belief. I am anxiously awaiting his next Black Flag. hurry up. Omega left me hanging. I highly recommend all of the Black Flag books. You will not be disappointed

Great books but ....

I have enjoyed all of his books, stories are well told, charters are well developed all with a good mix of suspense and excitement. I do need to warn you that it there seems to be an issue completing the series, this is the second or possibly third series that from him that I have read that does not come to conclusion. The last book in each is just M.I.A, rather disappointing given how good the stories are.

Would recommend reading but just not yet.

It has been too long since I read the last black flag book, and I do remember some characters, but it doesn’t do enough for me. Then I wasn’t compelled to go full throttle into it, putting it down and picking it up, needless to say I had a hard time. When they got to the refueling stop and got ambushed - it appears the SEALS disappeared. This battle is too far out for me to accept it, as far as I am concerned Konkloy blows it here, and I give up. 3

I admit it- I am whipping through this series instead of lazily reading beach novels. Maybe it’s the current political situation (and boy were these books prescient or what????), but I will likely finish number six by tomorrow.

Must give one caveat- the special forces, military and government jargon gets old for this pacifist after a bit, but the characters are so well written I have been able to get past it to appreciate them.

OMEGA: A Black Flagged Thriller (The Black Flagged Series Book 5)

YES! The intensity of this series is almost physical! I often fell my heart race and realize that I'm so "in to" the scene, my adrenaline is kicking into gear! So well written. So well balanced. But

Really creepy because, well.... this storyline is just entirely too feasible!!

Good book

Good part of the series, but a tad less exciting than the rest of the books so far Yet still a good read and important in the overall series. I probably woukd have been a little disappointed if this wasn't read on kindle unlimited though. But still love this series and enjoyed the read as part of the series.

As with the previous novels in the black flagged series, this book keeps you turning the pages wanting to find out what happens next. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Black Flagged.

Just finished reading the series . I've enjoyed the characters , hard humans with hard lives. But with surprising warmth between the main group. Very good story line , however I'm hoping for another book to finish this series of.

Another story with incredible action and characters.
Mr Konkoly has the unique ability to make me feel like one of General Sanderson's Black Flag team.
I will read Invicta again to better understand the ending.
Thanks for a great series.

Despite reading these in order I constantly had the feeling that I'd missed one. This fills in the blanks as it jumps the story forward a chunk, but it's a bridging story towards the next instalment.

Continues to be a very good read. However there were too many things left open at the end of this novel to feel satisfied. I look forward to the next installment.

No clear ending

Leaves all actors hanging. Needs to end better. Great story. Good action and previus folks are brought back. Seems author just set it down and walked away.
