When I came across this book in the library, I had high hopes. It seemed like a short and concise guide on how to slow down in our fast-paced society. I hoped to learn new ways to "switch off," but I feel like I knew most of the activities suggested in this book. So, I feel a bit led down...
Even though the advice the author gives is definitely useful, I already knew that meditation, being creative, taking a step back, journalling or going out in nature will help you find calm, peace and release your stress. I was hoping this book would be a more in-depth guide and not just a long list mentioning things people that have read self-help books before already know.
The audience of the book was also clearly middle-aged, overwhelmed parents leading too busy lives. Most of the suggested activities were really focusing on that particular age group, and I found them less useful for me (a 24-year-old university student).
But, to end on a positive note: the book was easy to read and a great reminder of how important it is to find some time each day to focus on yourself and just let go of all your other to do's and commitments. In the end, there is only so much you can do to find calm in your life, and this book can be a great introduction for someome that is new to reading self-help books and wants to live at a slower pace.
Final conclusion: I recommend this book if you are currently struggling to create some "me-time" for yourself as an overwhelmed parent working a full-time job. If that is you, this book will definitely give you some ideas to start living more slowly and intentionally and switching off from the hussle and bustle of life.
I found this surprisingly helpful at a time I was feeling overwhelmed with juggling expectations. A bit less relevant to myself without children, but I feel more grounded every time I read a bit of it.
This book is fairly interesting. It gives you amazing techniques for finding calm in a noisy world, basically finding inner peace. It reminds you to stay connected to yourself and your life, which can get increasingly difficult as we get more and more addicted to technology and social media. She teaches us how to spot signs that we are feeling overwhelmed, and how exactly to slow down. She also shows us techniques to help us sleep better (no TV before bed) and she emphasizes the importance of "me" time which is required to function to the best of your abilities. She talks about hobbies, having a balanced schedule, etc. She also includes stories which shows us the importance of making these changes to improve our life quality. Also, she talks about good health and making good choices for eating right and exercising more. She talks about how it all starts with a plan, and I really liked the segment on "Habitat for Health" which is basically surrounding yourself with things to get you on track for health, like a home gym, trendy active wear, and absolutely no chocolate in the house. She's very insightful, and I definitely see her being a life coach. I also really liked how she included checklists in between chapters to help us reflect on our own lives, so we are more motivated to make those changes, and it makes the book more interactive. I also really liked how she summed up each chapter with the "takeaway" blurbs, that really help solidify the message and main idea of each chapter, and ensure it resonates with you. I definitely got some useful advice on how to find my inner peace, and be more one with the universe. Handy book!
What a great read! This book has given me some useful tools and strategies on how to take the time to slow down and focus on my health and wellbeing, but also regain more control of the different aspects that make up my life. Can definitely recommend this book as a must read for sure!
