Ready: Heartbreak, Dating & My Journey Toward Love

Rate this book
"With honesty, humor, and grace Heather Alaine spins her tale of dating in the modern age in READY. A memoir for any woman who has been on the roller coaster of First Dates, this is an immensely readable story of love, forgiveness, and redemption. And it's funny as hell. This is a book to turn to for a laugh and a cry as well as a reminder to be brave enough to try again." ~ Katherine Field Rothschild, Author of Hope and Other Feathered Things

I had the immense pleasure of editing this wonderful book. I also blurbed it and this is exactly what I said: with honesty, humor, and grace Heather Alaine spins a tale of dating in the modern age in READY. A memoir for any woman who has been on the roller coaster of first dates, this is an immensely readable story of love, forgiveness, and redemption. And it's funny as hell. This is a book to turn to for a laugh and cry as well as a reminder to be brave enough to try again. I highly recommend!

A very sweet and intimate window into someone else's love life. She is so much more insiteful and reflective than I am.

I loved reading this book, written by an amazing dance teacher at Hipline whose classes I adore. This book felt very grounded in emotions as Heather navigates all sorts of dating situations authentically and with an emphasis on self-love and self-care. From funny and ridiculous to deeply meaningful and spiritual, Heather writes about these from the heart and sometimes her signature sass :). Also, I loved that it also is a soundtrack, with each chapter named after a particular song. Great book, and congrats and big hugs to you, Heather!

"Ready", by Heather Alaine is a definite page turner and an heart opening inspiring read. She is fearlessly authentic and raw. She captures your heart, just on the very first few pages of the book; and then takes the reader on this amazing journey of her life with such poise and grace. You find yourself either hysterically laughing or feeling the burn in her heart, either way, you remain her biggest fan on the entire time admiring her passion, perseverance and stamina as she stays in "alignment" with what is true in the core of her heart which is finding true LOVE and despite all the calamities, she wont give up. With each of her experiences, good or bad, she constantly looks in "the-rear-view-mirror", and make sure not to look at each of those experiences as simply a loss, but more importantly a lesson that needs to be applied to the next chapter of her journey of finding love.

Quick but really fun adventurous read - vicariously experienced the psychological house of mirrors which is internet dating, and loved hearing Heather grow in confidence and clarity as she spoke up and honed her own vision with her values. Sweet, sad, funny, great.

This book helped pull me out of a serious reading slump. For reasons I won't even bother to go into, my reading attention span had gotten REALLY short by the time I picked "Ready" up. And, it was so enjoyable and easy to read, once I started, I just wanted to keep reading. Ms. Alaine's writing is so open and vulnerable, you feel like you're sitting down with your good girlfriend laughing and crying over all the drama that can come with dating.

This is not the typical "50 ways to get a man" book about dating. It is more about finding, accepting and loving yourself in the process. It's a good read for anyone who is dating, has contemplated dating, or has given up on dating altogether.

One of my favorite lines in the book is "Goodies in a rhythmic swirl. It's time to go." I'll let you read the book for the context.
