Danny Walker’s survival retreat has been devastated by violence since the detonation of the EMP. A megalomaniacal warlord has stepped in to fill the vacuum of authority left by the utter collapse of society. Regent Schlusser’s designs on absolute power have already brought him to Danny’s doorstep once, leaving a trail of blood and heartbreak in his wake. Another conflict with the malicious dictator will spell certain death for the remaining members of the compound. Danny’s only hope is to infiltrate Schlusser’s camp and bring him down from the inside. It’s a risky proposition. If he is caught, he’ll be executed as a spy, but there is no other alternative. In this epic struggle between good and evil, Danny’s mettle will be tested, his faith will be tried, and he’ll have to dig deep for the courage to continue.
As with all books by Mark Goodwin, this novel contains no foul language and no embarrassing sex scenes. However, if you're more offended by biblical principles and scriptural references than profanity, this story might not be for you.
Mark Goodwin is a Christian author and host of the popular Prepper Recon Podcast which interviews patriots, preppers and economists to help people prepare for the uncertain times ahead. His previous fiction series, The Days of Noah spent several months at number one on the Amazon best-sellers list in multiple categories. His first series, The Economic Collapse Chronicles, also hit the Amazon best-sellers list in several categories.
This is the 3rd book in this series and most of it is about a hit on a compound that is becoming a threat to out group of survivors. While I have enjoyed this series, this 3rd book seemed a bit long winded. Too much talk of military things, maneuvers, weapons and such, that it made it drag for me. As with his other books, the author also throws in some helpful survival tips. This book is Christian fiction, so there is no foul language, sex or stuff like that, and it does point out the gospel message and the importance of relying on the Lord.
I will definitely be continuing the series. Recommended for Christian fiction fans and the survival/ prepper types.
Well I have completed all 3 books that are available in this series...In the past 15 days, great start to the New Year. Goodness, my New Year's resolution should of been to finish the 3 books available in this series. Then for once I would of succeeded in a New Year's resolution. (LOL) With all that being said, I can only continue by saying that Mr Goodwin is not the typical EOTW/SHTF type of author. MOST take you on the journey through HELL, with Satan as your constant companion. Mr Goodwin, of course shows you it is no trip through Disneyland. But it is a series that does include Christianity, the belief in God, faith or the lack of. It quotes scripture and prayers. one of the great things depending how you look at it, you're not dealing with lots of profanity & sex that for some reason others seem to find that it is A necessity to make a book a good one. The author also gives educated, professional as far as I'm concerned information on things that would be of great use and importance in such situations of emergency bug outs. In saying that, if you are listening to the Audible version when the book ends continue to listen, he will provide you with some great information as well. Also speaking for the audible version, the narrator I could not find any one that would be more perfect than the one he has read for him. I have always found him to be a great pleasure to listen to, so when I switch from reading to audible it's not painful listening to a text to read voice that is computerized. I am now going to go digging to find out when book for is coming out and hope that even those without a belief in Christianity or anything like that would still give this author a chance for he is still as I said very educated in a lot of what I believe could be very life-saving.
this is a really good series ... I have a group of men in my church watching this in order to talk about the moral, ethical & spiritual things one may face as we get deeper into what appears to be the inevitable breakdown of our society. As I've said before, I think I've read most everything that Mark Goodwin has written - this is pretty much my favorite... I'm reading for the third time - in order to keep up with my mens book club.
This book tells the sad tale of how costly war is - in human casualties and peace of mind. I pray the things written in this book never happen in America, but they could. The only thing we can do is pray for our country, our leaders, and try to help people around us come to accept Jesus as their Savior.
I love this series but this one made me think that I was reading a story written by the writers of the Walking Dead. You get attached to these characters. This series should be a wakeup call about the real world possibilities that we face. This series should be required reading for members of Congress.
Beware book three will leave you needing the next book
Mark Goodwin will take your heart and mind to their limits as he continues these beautiful series . make sure you have a reading buddy for this one,you will want to talk to someone after reading this book and again you will need book 4 to.pick up so.don't read this one too late at night .
I'm Officially Hooked... I've sped through the first two books in this series and just finished this one. A great read and a thrilling addition to the series. I appreciate the way Mark tells the story, keeping it realistic and exciting and yet without undue language and gratuitous sex, instead - letting the story do the work. Nicely done - I'll be reading more in this series!
Mark Goodwin is a great writer. All of his books prepare us for what may come to our country if we don't change our ways. Look around you, read the newspapers it is coming, are you prepared.......
**spoiler alert** Nothing but spoilers. Not a review. This is a (poorly written) synopsis, so I will have something to review if/when I read the next book.
Danny and J.C. decide they need to infiltrate Schlusser’s camp (more like city). They come up with a plan and enter the camp as average Joe's in search of work. They get put on separate details. Danny gets put on a ditch digging detail headed up by a guy named Antoine. (ex college football player that was planning on going pro) JC gets put on a security detail due to his prior police experience. Danny runs into Gwen working in the kitchen. (Gwen was from the previous book. She was with the group that kidnapped Danny's wife, Alisa. Gwen kinda helped keep one of the guys from having his way with Alisa during the captivity. When Alisa was freed, Gwen wasn't executed with the others, but was not allowed to stay with Danny's group)
Danny and J.C. devise a plan to blow up all of Schlusser's fuel stores, and then sneak back to camp. However, someone from Danny's work detail tells Schlusser's men that Danny and J.C. are asking lots of questions about how things work around camp. Danny is taken in by Gorbold (brother of the Gorbold that was killed trying to extort stuff from Danny's camp in the previous book). Danny is beaten and held in a semi trailer. Gwen is tasked with bringing him some food. He convinces Gwen to team up with Antoine and break him out. (he promises they can come live with him on the farm). Antoine and Gwen break him out. They all hide in a Semi truck cab for a day or two until things settle down. They then all make their way back to the farm. No one knows where J.C. is.
When they get back J.C.'s sons want to head out the next morning to go find their dad. Danny and his brother in law (Nick) convince them to wait. Instead they go team up with another group(headed up by Ben) that is planning on attacking Schlusser's men in a nearby city. (Not the main area where Schlusser is). The two groups put together a plan and head out a few days later.
They win the battle for the city, but during the attack Steven and Nick are killed. The book ends there. Still no word where J.C. is.

This was an intense continuation of the SCUG series. Goodwin brings his smooth-flowing writing style once again, making for a quick paced and hard to put down novel. I may be biased, being a Mark Goodwin fan, but this series has quickly cemented itself among the great SHTF novel series'. The story continues along with the next logical progression of the characters ordeal; only, Mark seems to write the experience like no other author I have read who has tried to do the same. Two of the main characters attempt to preempt the large organization threatening their group nearby by infiltrating their ranks, with the later goal of sabotaging their operation somehow. This chain of events and the climax that follows afterward were so enthralling that I had a hard time putting the book down, regardless of what time it was. By the time I had finished the book I was almost reader shell shocked by how realistic he maintained the narrative. I won't give it away, but there is more than just your usual required amount of tragedy for a large battle. I'm also very pleased to see that he will be putting out a fourth novel to the series.
The Seven Cows series is a great story for those wanting a post-apocalyptic novel from a Christian perspective. Its a realistic account of what the conditions will be like when such an event happens as well as pointing out some decisions that will have to be made during that time.
Good book, number three in the series. Now to wait for number four. Goodwin has surely made me think about what could happen as well as to how one needs to prepare. I once thought my brother was a tad off plumb, but no more...
This is book 3 of 4 in this series and it has been a frightening and exciting look at what could happen to our country after a devastating attack on our country. I can't wait to see what happens in book 4.
