"I'm a monster's son, princess, and you belong to a hero."
The Hardass
Focused and in control at all times. Most people think I'm a prick--and I'll be the first to admit that's probably true. But I'd rather be a take-no-shit cop than the kind of man genetics says I should be. You break the law, you pay the price. I don't give a damn if you're the captain's daughter or the Queen of friggin' England.
The Princess
I have no patience for the cocky men my father oversees. Or maybe it's just Sergeant Hardass who gets under my skin. Not only is he sexy as sin, he refuses to cut me a break. And now I have to work with the arrogant jerk.
I shouldn't want him, but a secret part of me craves his unforgiving edge. He could give me everything I need, but, first, I have to break down his walls.
Author of sexy, small town romance. Lover of banana Laffy Taffy, 80's ballads, 90's rock, and road trips. Location: Wisconsin. Sign: Sagittarius. Religion: Coffee and naps.
Bend the first book in the Vegas Heat series was a decent read. The main problem I had with Bend was it jumped around too much. I would just be getting into the story or learning something about the characters, just starting to get deep and then the scene would jump to the next day or week. It left me feeling like I never really got to know the characters. It also made the story more superficial. It needed more meat. More story, more details, more everything. I did really like Trent and Kinsey. What I knew of them. Also the sex in this book was smokin' hot! But I would have enjoyed it so much more if it would have did more than just scratch the surface. The lack of details and depth not only cause me to not really connect to this book it caused me to have no interest in the secondary characters. They were really just random names with no backstory, and nothing to draw you to them. So overall I would say this book had some potential but didn't make it to great. It was an okay read. It was fast, and sexy, but it needed more details. I may give this series one more chance.
This was a quick, fun and sexy reading... But it was too short and i would enjoy to have more details and to learn more about the heroes and the plot... But in only 120 pages, the writer did a very good job!!! There was a nice plot with some mystery inside and there were a great hate to love romance between the hardass and the princess...
Kinsey and Trent didn't like each other very much... They are everything that they despise to a person and that's why they are keeping their distance, especially Kinsey!!! But every time that they are close to each other a deep hunger is underlying... For how long will they fight it???
"What she’s given me isn’t enough. I want to consume every pretty fucking part of her, so that no one else can ever have her. She’s made me selfish. Greedy. Hungry. Desperate. With each kiss and with every sweet smile, she calls to something inside of me. I have to walk . . . before I do something we both regret."
Kinsey appeared to be cold and indifferent, but she was anything but that!!! She was daddy's girl, but she didn't want to find a man like her father and Trent was exactly that!!! And he was so full of himself that she wanted to run far away from him... But she couldn't deny that he was very nice at the eyes!!! At this moment, she is having a big trouble in her work and her only solution in her problem is to ask Hardass's help and she hated it!!!
"Oh, no. No, no, no. There isn’t a single spark between Sergeant Hardass and me. You know, other than he’s sexy as crap. But that’s just bad boy fantasy stuff. In real life, I can’t stand him."
Trent from the other hand, he is a cocky prick and he knows it!!! He is keeping everyone at arm's length and especially women... He is enjoying very much to play with captain's princess and even though that he doesn't like those kind of girls, he would love to f**k her!!! Trent has a secret that he is making him act like a jerk, but in my opinion it wasn't so tragic as he made it to seem....
"She’s too fucking good for me. Always has been and always will be, regardless of whether or not she has a wicked side, too. Her demons and mine aren’t in the same league, not by a long shot."
Trent and Kinsey were very funny when they were fighting and very sexy when they were together... They were fitting really nice as a couple!!!
"What I really craved was trust. A connection. Something deeper than I’d ever let myself have before. Trent gives me that. I don’t know how it happened. Or why. I’ve always been attracted to his arrogant cop attitude, but the man behind the badge is ten times more appealing. He’s real. He’s damaged. And he has the biggest heart. I know he’s scared. I am, too. But I’m not afraid of him. I’m afraid that I’m falling for a man who may never realize how amazing he is. A man who may never accept himself enough to welcome how I feel about him."

Are you ready for some hot cop action? Yeah!
Trent and Kinsey share a brief but awkward history. Though Trent has the utmost respect for Kinsey's father, who also happens to be his Captain, Kinsey and her spoiled princess self seem to rub Trent the wrong way. Kinsey thinks Trent takes the term "stoic asshole" to a new level and needless to say, there's no love lost between the two. So what happens when Sergeant Hardass and the spoiled princess are forced to work together?
I loved Molly McLain's River Bend series so I went into this knowing I was already a fan. Lucky for me Bend didn't disappoint. The chemistry between Kinsey and Trent was evident from the first time he pulled her over and asked for license and registration. This is a novella sized story and it goes without saying conclusions are jumped to and generalizations are made. Normally this irks the ever loving crap out of me but there's just enough angst, sweet and sexy to make up for it.
The harder I take her... the deeper I connect with her physically... the more I slip. The scary thing— the really fucking terrifying thing— is that I like it. I like it a whole fucking lot.
Let's talk about the less than stellar aspect of the story: The ball O' Crime dramarama. I realize the shoplifting/hotel murder aspect of this little ditty was meant to tie the characters together, but it just managed to bore and confuse me a little. No big feat, I admit, but I could've done without it.
It looks like Trent's sexyfied brothers have stories in the works. One's a big, broody bartender and the other works a pole for a living. Sign. Me. Up.

Molly McLain, turns up the dirty in the first book in her new Vegas Heat series. Bend offered up a couple of likeable characters, who start out as frenemies, but soon realize that the chemistry between them may have other plans.
The Hardass and The Princess are certainly more than those initial descriptives as you get further into the story you start understand more, why they are both the way they are, and Kinsey Malloy and Trent Clark were the perfect blend of soft and hard together.
The woman’s either got a serious stick up her ass or she’s never been fucked properly.
Both of them have a point to prove; Kinsey that she is a strong independent woman who doesn’t need her Police Chief fathers constant protection and interference in her life, and Trent as one of his officers, is looking to prove that he is a good choice for promotion, so sleeping with his bosses daughter, whilst in the midst of an investigation involving her is probably not the best step to take in that regard.
"I think I like you better without the badge."
I liked this pairing, the author took her writing down a grittier route in comparison to her River Bend series, but it worked well in relation to Trent’s character, and the story-line that played out between him and Kinsey. I am looking forward to reading more from the series in the future.

BEND is a quick and fun contemporary romance and my first book by author Molly McLain.
Kinsey Malloy alias Princess and Trent Clark alias Sergent Hardass have known each other for three years. Kinsey is the manager of a lingerie store in Vegas and her father is Trent’s Captain at the police precinct where he’s working. These two are somehow enemies and they never miss an opportunity to throw sarcastic comments each time they meet. Trent has no tolerance for anyone breaking the law, not even for his Boss’s daughter who is doing so on a regular basis. No matter how beautiful and tempting Kinsey is, Trent knows that he has to stay away from her. Trent comes from a dysfunctional family and he’s also a man with a secret, and dark, dangerous desires and when it comes to women he has a simple rule : keep 'em happy and keep 'em at a distance. But when Kinsey finds herself in a bind, Trent’s professional integrity takes precedence over his feelings and he finds himself helping her to find out who’s stealing from her. Both of them know that getting into a relationship would be a bad idea because of preconceived notions each has about the other and also because of their personal circumstances. Until Kinsey and Trent finally can't resist giving into their desire and make a deal to keep it casual - just to extinguish the attraction that lingered between them from day one.
Kinsey’s always thought of herself as an independent woman and she knows what she wants out of life and, for the most part, that’s a solid, enjoyable career with a few perks along the way. Settling down has never been a priority for her yet Kinsey can’t ignore the real connection they share. Something deeper than she’d ever let herself have before. For the first time in his life, Trent longs for something other than his career plans. His lust quickly turns into a different kind of needs and the more time he and Kinsey spend together, the more things get complicated. Trent has a big decision to make about himself but it's not always an easy path to take.
« I’m losing control with her. I don’t know how or why, because I’ve been extra careful. But it’s there, glittering around the edges of my vision like an ominous blackout. The harder I take her...the deeper I connect with her physically...the more I slip. The scary thing—the really fucking terrifying thing—is that I like it. I like it a whole fucking lot. »
I was really close to giving this four stars, but I settled on a 3.5 stars because while I liked the last fifty percent of the story, the first part was just an ok read for me. I'm obviously in the minority here considering the other reviews and ratings but personally It took me a while to connect with both characters and to be fully invested in their story. What I liked most in this story was Kinsey’s relationship with her father and the bantering back and forth between the characters.
Overall this was a short and well-written enemies to lovers story with a reasonable amount of character development and interesting backgrounds. The ending was mostly satisfying, although there were some loose ends especially the whole investigation thing that I felt should have been either tied up, or not introduced in the first place as they fizzled away into nothingness with no further explanation. I also enjoyed watching Trent and Kinsey explore one another both in the bedroom and outside it. Their chemistry was undeniable and the author did a good job delivering smokin’ hot sex scenes with a touch of emotional deeds thrown in the mix. In conclusion, I did end up enjoying this book more than not and the secondary characters were interesting enough for me to want to read their stories in future books in this series.

What a hot little read! Trent, a cop with a disturbing past keeps pulling Kensey, the captains daughter over on a traffic violation. Their love/hate banter is electric and it was fun watching it build until Trent finally does something about it. I enjoyed this sexy, short read and can't wait for more in this series! If you like short and scorching then you'll love Bend! It has the prefect blend of naughty and nice.
I loved it from start to finish! If you're looking for a hot, sexy read with a bad boy cop and a not so innocent princess, Bend it gonna be right up your alley. I loved reading this one. It was fast paced, engaging and did I mention sexy? Cuz Trent and Kinsley were freaking great together!!!! The heat factor is off the charts and definitely pulled me out of my reading funk.
Bend is the story of Trent, a no-nonsense, by-the-book cop and Kinsley, princess and daddy's girl. These two had rubbed each other the wrong way from day one. But the line separating love and hate it tricky and it's not long before their friction turns into all consuming passion.
One of the best reads of 2016 and I would highly recommend, you won't be disappointed!

*** Re-read Feb. 28, 2019 *** Still stand by my original review. Lucky me found a paperback copy and had to get my greedy little hands on it, lol. Trent and Kinsley are still smoking hot together and I enjoyed this smutty read almost as much as I did the first time around. My reading taste has changed a lot since 2016 but I'm glad this one still held up. Am wondering what ever happened to the rest of the series? It's listed on goodreads but I can't find a link to the other books anywhere. The author's hint that Trent's brothers would get their own stories made my day but can't find anything about them either. Bummer!
I read this book yesterday but now, when I'm writing the review, I actually have to think a bit about what it was about. So it wasn't really a memorable read...
Still, after I think a bit, I remember I liked it. It wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad either. It's really short, and it's almost impossible to write a great story in less than 100 pages, so it's no surprise that there was no read character development or not a lot of chemistry, but it was cute.
It's just like everyday breakfast, you like it while you're eating it but then next day you don't really remember what you ate. Worth reading if you're in a book funk and don't know what to do.
So I found this author on tiktok I know lol and wanted to give it a shot!! Its pretty fast pace and steamy. And I gotta say i enjoyed it.
When you first meet Kinsey and Trent you can already feel the hate/annoying vibes between them lol. Trent loves to tease and annoy Kinsey since her father is his captain and he thinks she gets away with everything so he loves to pull her over and annoy her. Trent boy Trent was a hardass with a flirty side but he takes his work serious. As for Kinsey shes a independent woman who doesnt wanna ask her father for anything even if ppls call her princess, she works in a high end lingerie store and has few problems of stolen merchandise so when Trent is assigned to the case their relationship is tense and them getting to know one another.. both seeing the other in a different light.
And some push and pull between them when they try to become fk buddies.. lets just say feelings catch..
No ow/om drama( unless you count flirty ppls), no cheating, sight secondary character, Drama, sexy times, no virgins H was called a playboy but wasn't shown (both mention their past)
Recommend-yes/maybe Cover-⭐⭐⭐

I liked this in some ways and I didn't in others. Unfortunately, the things that didn't work for me outweigh the things that I did like.
There were a couple of things that bothered me: 1. The dialog- I was not really able to differentiate who was speaking, the dialog for Trent and Kinsey sounded the same to me a lot of the time. 2. The author has no idea how a manager of a retail store would actually run the store...at least it didn't work with the experiences I have had in retail management, so those parts of the story really didn't work for me. (An employee surprised the manager was actually working on the sales floor???!!! Calling the police when you suspected an employee may be stealing???!!!)
The second half of the book was stronger than the first, but unfortunately the dialog and character issues never completely resolved to the point where I was able to fully enjoy the book.
The sex was hot and the relationship between the 2 of them was actually good, toward the end of the book. Once they were together, and actually started to develop as characters, there was more depth to the story and it was more interesting. They also started to seem like more developed people by the end of the book.
I reluctantly recommend this book. I am not able to fully recommend it, but I am not able to fully say it is a "don't read" either.
This was a great read, very nice execution. The characters are compelling and while the story isn't completely deep it still got me hooked on what was going on.
Trent, AKA Sargent Hardass just wants to have a good time and rattle Kinsley's cage a bit. He thinks she's this little princess like her father, the Chief for the police department Trent works for, says she is. It's his little nickname for her and Trent also adopts it. He wants to rattle her so much he pulls her over almost weekly at the same light it's almost comical...and annoying for Kinsley.
Kinsley seems like a nice cute 26 year old woman who's secret is she likes hard sex? I mean don't get me wrong, but what's with this being so hush hush or big secret? I don't get it but apparently it's her secret desire. OK.
Kinsley has some issues go down and needs to involve the cops, naturally Trent is put on the case and things go from there.
I really liked Kinsley I didn't have a bad thing to say about her, though toward the end of the book she became less herself and more wanting to please and do things for Trent. Which isn't exactly a bad thing, but in some ways it felt like her individual identity disappeared a little. Trent on the other hand became a better person. His personal demons made him not want to be part of anything more with Kinsley. And when it was explained I thought "Really? This is the reason he doesn't want to be with her?" It was a bit annoying to hear what the reason for this was, because it wasn't even him who did this big thing. This big thing just makes him feel like he could do something as bad, though how I dunno? So for me to see this really irked me, though eventually Kinsley gets Trent to see that he isn't held back by this particular demon and this demon has nothing to do with him. Its cute, the plot wasn't huge or deep but it was still a nice read, not really complicated either.
There were some grammar and story issues but small, missing words, a couple typos and there was a point when Trent ran a background check for one of Kinsley's employees, he just told us about it a few pages back and then tells us again about it, which I felt wasn't needed. Other than those minor issues the book was cute and great.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and publisher for allowing me to read this book for free, all opinions in this review are mine and mine alone

This is the story of Kinsey and Trent, a hate to love story!
I really liked this story. There was a bit of tension, sexy dirty talk, mystery and fun. Actually there was a bit of everything! My only complaint is that the book is quite short but Ms. McLain put quite some events there. For example, there was a mystery in the story that in my eyes was really easy resolved. There were also secrets that when they came out, they didn’t seem so dark/disturbing to me as the heroes made out of them. I think that if the story was more developed, everything would have fallen in place.
Kinsey is a nice woman who knows how to stand up for herself. I really liked the way she was talking to Trent! Without hesitation or shame! My only complaint was her reactions about certain events.
Trent is really an a$$hole in the beginning of the book! I normally don’t like the “bad” boy look but Trent was good with it! He knows how he is and that’s it! No flowers or romantic gestures! I totally liked him.
The interactions among Kin and Trent were fire! I mean really fire! Their verbal interactions brought smiles on my face and their physical interactions were hot!
The end of the book felt a bit rushed for me. I strongly believe that the book would have been really so much better if everything was a bit more developed and explained. Don’t take me wrong, I really enjoyed this book! I just believe it could have been a solid 5 star book if there was a bit more of depth in the characters and development in the plot.
I still recommend to everyone who loves a good enemy to lovers romance!
Officer Hardass meets the Princess. You have to love the nicknames of these two and you can only guess the kind of sparks that fly whenever they are together whether it be when Officer Trent Clark is pulling Kinsey Malloy over for traffic violations or when they are meeting up in a bathroom at a bar. It only gets a little complicated when you find out that Kinsey is the daughter of Trent’s superior officer. Ah, but that is what makes this books so fun and yet so hot!
What does it take for Kinsey to get over her dislike of that hot as hell officer that keeps pulling her over for traffic violations; a girl could almost want to get a little alone time with this guy if he wasn’t always such a pain in the ass. Trent has some things from his past that he tries to hide which has made him into the guy that never brings a girl home. Is Kinsey that woman who can find out what Trent is actually made of or will the idea of being the daughter of Trent’s captain be more risk than its worth?
This is a great quick read with lots of hot moments and some really great humor to lighten the tension. I don’t think that Ms. McLain can write anything that isn’t fantastic. She knows how to pull you in from the start and then keep you front and center the whole time.
This book was provided as an ARC from NetGalley for a free and honest review.
Bend by Molly McLain was a hot, sexy, funny and fast aced read and one that this book whore really liked! The banter, the sexual chemistry, the sexiness is what had me wishing that this one was longer than what it was because honestly? I could have read a full length novel and I would have loved each and every word.
From the very start Trent and Kinsley have a connection, one that may be from her running a red light, the same one, for two weeks in a row, but it is a connection. Kinsley’s dad is Trent’s captain and he sees her as the “princess” her dad calls her. What he doesn’t know is that Kinsley has a naughty side to her, one that could possibly match Trent’s. I loved these two together as well as the secondary characters, some who I can’t wait to get their books!
Bend was an enjoyable fast read that I recommend to anyone looking for a quick hot read that will not only have you laughing, but have you wishing you had a sexy cop with a dirty side (sexually that is) on hand and possibly a pair of handcuffs although those aren’t necessary. I am really looking forward to more of this series!
Trent is a cop, Kinsey is a cops daughter who runs a lingerie store in a mall.
When Trent deliberately keeps pulling Kinsey over for different traffic violations you could say there relationship becomes one of love and hate with one liners and flirting thrown in.
Theft investigations at the mall, cop office banter, fan me down hotness, great characters and a good plot, there was lots going on in Bend to keep me flipping the pages.
Bend was fun with touches of seriousness, told in dual pov's and leads to a hea.
My first read by this author and I would definitely read more, the whole plot was balanced out perfectly, I really enjoyed it.
3.5 Stars My first read by Mollie McLain is this first in a series book following sexy alpha male, police sergeant Trent Clark, and the police chief's daughter, sweet innocent, Kinsey Malloy. Although their paths have crossed a few times (namely when Trent has pulled over Kinsey for road traffic offences), neither of them particularly like each other. Brought together by a shock revelation at the police ball, they both come to realise that they have far more in common than they initially thought, and it would appear that Kilnsey is not the sweet, innocent princess that Trent presumed she was. Add in to the mix a murder, along with some shoplifting, and it would appear that they both need each other for more than just hot (I mean scorching hot) sex. A quick easy read, told in dual POV with characters that I could relate to, even though at times it did seem a little rushed and cheesy. This aside, I enjoyed the story and the characters and I will certainly look into reading the next in the series. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
What a fun and steamy read! Bend is a great mix of angst, humor, and of course sexy times! I love the enemies to lovers trope and Trent and Kinsey did not disappoint with their awesome chemistry.
Both characters have their faults, but I loved that each tried to do their best (however misguided) to protect the ones they love and themselves. The vulnerability they both eventually showed to the other only made their relationship sexier to me and I really liked that Kinsey especially spoke her mind and called Trent out on his behavior. Learning his backstory was definitely heartbreaking, but I loved how it brought the characters and story full circle. Kinsey's relationship with her father was also a great addition. It was very sweet while providing some lightheartedness and humor to the story, especially his unannounced visit at the end ;)
I did find the theft/police story line a little hard to follow, but that's probably because I was excited to get back to Trent and Kinsey. It helped bring our main characters together though, so I understand the role it played in the story. The epilogue was perfect and this was a great start to the series. I'm excited to read more about Trent's brothers and his co-workers, Will and Dez, and look forward to more Vegas stories.
*I voluntarily read a free advance reader copy of this book. Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley*
Travis is a tough cop that just loves to pull over Kinsey (who happens to be the Captain's daughter) for turning right on a no red turn. When she finds out that merchandise is missing every night she calls the cops, and who in turn is the cop that comes, none other than Sergeant Hardass. She has to explain what's going on and nothing is being taken seriously. When they both have to go to the PD Ball her as her dads date and him as just to find out about an opening somewhere else than patrol. When her dad pulls some crap she runs out of there and to a bar that Travis owns. They end up hooking up in the bathroom... What happens when cases are interlinked? What happens when daddy doesn't like Travis? What happens when case gets solved?
I ate this book up! I grabbed it off my shelf just cause I was looking for a short read and the next thing I know it was over cause I read it so fast cause I couldn't put it down. Travis has such a dirty mouth and I was like okay sir! I really enjoyed the book and it was just a fun read and these characters and the banter was great!
He’s my walking wet dream. Only I don’t really like him. And I sure as hell would never sleep with him.
Why isn't there more in this series?? I loved this book. There were a lot of interesting elements to this short novel. Trent is a walking breathing asshole. I'm not the biggest fan of him but I think he is perfect for Kinsley. I loved her so much. I love soft she makes Trent and how unapologetic she is! This had some great banter and swoon moments! (also spicy too!)
This isn't the first book that I've read by Molly McLain and it most definitely won't be my last. You want to know why? She writes a badass hero. Every. Time. Great characters will keep me coming back to an author every time!
Since I did love the characters so very much, I want to touch on them first. Well ... not LITERALLY touch ... unless we're talking about Trent ... but I'm married ... and he's nonexistent ... the last part is obviously the bigger issue, right? So anyway ... Trent is this badass, sexy cop that is quite possibly the most irritating man that Kinsey has ever met. Which just makes him that much more attractive, obviously. I was caught between grinning like an idiot at him and being irritated and then grinning again ... it was awesome! McLain made me wish this dude was real so I could hang out with him because I'm sure he would constantly stir the pot and I find that more than amusing. And then Kinsey. Dude. She was a total spitfire. You know how they say kids of a cop or pastor are more wild than other kids? Well, that wasn't really the case most of the time. Except for that one thing ... DAMN. I'll never look at a bathroom the same again. Kinsey was a fabulous character to read because you really never knew what the hell she would say next. Which is exciting!
The story itself was nothing less than what I have come to expect from this author. It kept me entertained and glued to the pages of this book because it just pulled you in. I found myself reading when I should have been moving Beezilbop (our stupid Elf on the Shelf) which left me scrambling all bleary-eyed in the morning trying to race to move him before our youngest monster woke up. But I would do it all over again if I had the chance. There were quite a few twists and turns that I hadn't expected and the story was fairly involved - there was more than one thing going on at once and that made the story move even faster which made me read even faster which made my wonderful experience with this book, END even faster.
I'm a forever fan of McLain. Can't wait to see what else she has in store for this series because this first one was pretty freaking awesome.

Ohhhh this is my first read by Molly McLain and I just fell in love with her writing!! I will definitely be reading more of her books!!!
Lord..Lord...wait until you meet Trent!! He is one cocky, take-no-shit cop and he has a thing for pulling over poor Kinsey, she just cant get a brake with him either. And wouldn't you know it, her dad is the Captain. lol Hmmm I wonder if Trent sits and waits for her to pass by him everyday so boom, those red and blue lights start flashing and the sassiness by her and the alpha male by him all makes for one fun and hawt as hell book!!! Goodness I just loved it!!
I gave this book 5, I will say it again...Hawt as Hell Stars!! Make sure this is your next read ladies, it will not disappoint!! : )
My first venture into the Vegas world Molly McLain created was enjoyable. The characters and the story line are fun and entertaining, with little angst or drama.
The two main characters of Bend, Trent and Kensey, are interesting. As a reader, I liked them as people, but there are some things about their characters that prevented me from fully connecting with them. Kensey struggles with what she desires in the bedroom; however, what she fantasizes about and what she desires is something that she tries to suppress. Readers see her attempt to achieve her desires, but often backtracks. I wanted her to own her sexuality and embrace what she desires with no shame. Trent as a hero was too arrogant for me at the beginning. There didn’t really seem to be any depth to his character, as he is presented as the hot yet stubborn as hell cop that is bullying Kensey. These original characterizations, however, are not who these characters are. Kensey begins to own her sexuality and desires once she feels safe and can trust her partner. Molly McLain also shows her to be emotionally brave as the novel progresses, willing to share her feelings openly, even with no guarantee of reciprocation, thus earning my respect as a reader and creating that much needed connection. Trent also develops and changes from the beginning of the novel, and he becomes more than just the arrogant cop. His background, his reason for avoiding relationships, is valid, and it makes sense why he chose to live his life the way he did. Additionally, seeing him with his family and how he interacts with Kensey as the novel progresses makes him completely endearing.
Even though it wasn’t love at first sight for me with the characters, the chemistry between these two is explosive. Sexual tension laces every conversation and every interaction, and their energy is palpable, and when they finally do the deed, WOW, just WOW. These are some HOT scenes!
This enemies to lovers story has a little bit of everything. There is suspense with the stolen lingerie, the forbidden nature of their relationship, and the hero’s demons. Each is blended together seamlessly into one concise plot, and it provides the reader with an engaging story to keep him/her entertained. The only aspect of the book that I would have liked more of is the details of the crime, and this is just a personal preference. I just wanted to know more, maybe have a little more danger. Once again, this is a personal preference, many will be completely satisfied with the amount of suspense and mystery in the book.
One thing I do know is that I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the development of the characters, and I will be anxiously awaiting the second book in the series! ======================= ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
OK. I am confused. Not surprised, and certainly I am not surprised, but I am still confused. I just finished Bend by Molly McLain. I absolutely love, Love, LOVE each, and every book that I have read by the fabulous Molly McLain. In my opinion Ms. McLain is one of the best at small town romance writers around, ranking right up there with other authors such as Nora Roberts, Samantha Chase, and Zoe York (some of my favorites). However, Bend is not a book situated in “small town America”, it takes place in a city that NEVER sleeps, Las Vegas, and Ms. McLain does just as well writing books about Las Vegas, because she writes FREAKING, FANTASTIC ROMANCE NOVELS!!!!! It does not matter where her books are situated, they are GREAT! I love romance novels with a hero/heroine that look at themselves as damaged, and not good enough for the other person. This book is certainly that. Trent is a police officer in the Las Vegas police department. He is a GOOD man in every way, but he does not see him as such. I am not going to go into why he feels this way because I will not give anything away. Kinsey sees him for the man he is. When Trent tells her of his past, she tells him, so what, and proceeds to tell him why she sees him why he is wrong. This is a fantastic, well written love story, and I loved the way Ms. McLain had these two first become friends, and then become lover, not just f…. oops, I said no spoilers, not to mention, pass review editing… This is the first book in Ms. McLain’s new series, Vegas Heat. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I wonder who is next? Could it be one of Trent’s brothers? Or maybe, one of Kinsey’s friends? I cannot wait! Thank you for reading my review! Oh, wait, I said I was confused… You see, I was gifted with an opportunity to read an ARC of this fabulous book. I accepted this gift without knowing one single thing about the book other than it was written by Ms. McLain and the title, in other words, I read it blind. Ms. McLain is one of the very few authors I will read blind, without knowing anything about the book. Well, I started to write my review, and was half way thru writing it when I finally read the blurb. My confusion was the title. I could not figure out why it was titled “Bend”, that is, until I read the description (the blurb) of the book. NOW, it makes perfect sense to me, and yes, “Bend” is the perfect title. This ebook releases on November 28, 2016, if you love a great romance story as much as I do, go one click the pre-order for Bend. I did. Again, thank you for reading my review.
Bend (Vegas Heat, #1) by Molly McLain 4 Stars Contemporary Romance Police Officer First In A Series Heat Level 3
This was my first book by Molly McLain. It kept popping up, and I just wasn't sure what to think about it. New author, a cop hero, takes place in Las Vegas (I used to live there. I’m always afraid authors are going to misrepresent the REAL Las Vegas, ya know, where people actually live). I finally decided I had to give it a go. The blurb sounded so good! I was not disappointed.
Kinsey is the tourism police chief’s daughter. She has a healthy respect and distaste for police officers, except for Sergeant Hardass. Could he stop pulling her over and looking so good doing it!? This is how the book begins, with our couple meeting at a “routine” traffic stop. Trent just can’t help himself. Kinsey should know better because she’s the chief’s daughter and that does not make her above the law. Their banter and the enemies to lovers plot kept me smiling.
The story unfolds in a very low angst and easy to follow story. It has heat, romance and a little mystery. I would have like a little bit more development at the end of the story, which is why I gave it 4 stars. It seemed to end a little abruptly, just as the story was getting really good. That being said, I would definitely recommend reading it. It was a fun and easy to read book. I will continue with the series because there are a lot of hot men in this book, and I need to know their stories.
A copy of Bend was given to me by the publisher for an honest review.
"Trent Clark is the kind of man that could ruin me in one night, and not with wine and roses. No, he'd leave me with body aches and residual tremors, torn panties and bruised lips."
5 Bend me Stars!! First book I've read by Molly, and it won't be the last!
Trent is a cop that takes no (you know what) from anyone. He's hard as nails and likes to mess with his bosses daughter. Trent makes it his goal to pull Kinsey over whenever he gets a chance and just likes to get a rise out of her really. Kinsey is tired of being under Trent thumb, which is hard to do when she asks for his help on tracking a thief in her lingerie store. The closer these two work together the harder it is for them to resist the temptation. But neither of these two are looking for a relationship. Trent has a dark past and Kinsey isn't the "princess" Trent thinks she is. Can these two navigate their feelings and stop fighting what's right in front of them?
This is the first book I've read by Molly and I feel like I've been living under a rock. Where have I been and why have I missed her other books?? I loved this book, it had the perfect blend of suspense and heat. And by heat I mean, the bathroom scene has to be my favorite... trust me read it you'll understand! Trent is a sexy, sexy beast... I love a brooding man and he's all that and more! Kinsey is a fabulous lead and I love that she's not afraid to challenge Trent and stand up to him. She's tough and it's refreshing to see in a female character! Overall a really great book and I can't wait to read the next in the series!
Annnnnd...here it is. The reason why this book is getting a 4 star rating is because the reason why Trent didn't want to be with Kinsey was such utter bullshit. And there are people who have a childhood like Trent had, but to take it that you know the pain of being on the receiving end of such shit and hurt, then you psychobable yourself into thinking, and here in lies the bullshit part, you'll turn out like the cause of all that pain, instead of overcoming it and becoming better than that person...eish, kamenuka (it stinks).
So, this is a frenemy book. Last week, I read a book that had this same frenemy plot line, whereby this guy is the bain of your existence, but he's OMG hot you just want to fuck the shit out of him with all your anger. I sort of hated that book, because it felt like a plot device and so structured. But in this book, I absolutely loved it, because it manifested the tension between Kinsey+Trent...so kudos to Molly for writing it out well.
So basically, the book is about how Kinsey is the Chief's daughter, and Trent is the asshole who gives her a hard time about it. Then, they bond over their kinky nature.
The smut in this book is hot. Hot I tell you!!! The bathroom scene....*sigh*.
It was sweet how they went from I want to kill you and fuck you to I want to fuck you and love you. It was a good book. And I enjoyed reading it and would definitely recommend it.
Trent and Kinsey have been tap dancing around one another for a while. They chip away at one another but in some ways they are also flirting. Trent is a tough police officer and Kinsey is the daughter of a police captain. Someone is stealing from her shop and Trent is assigned to the case, a case he doesn’t take as seriously as he should in the beginning. As the story progresses things heat up between Trent and Kinsey but there is a question whether or not they will get their HEA due to a secret Trent has been keeping. The thief and a murderer are eventually caught and Trent and Kinsey have their chance at a HEA that may solidify in future books of the series. Various characters are introduced that may show up in future books of the series.
I enjoyed the dynamics between the main characters and found this to be an easy to read standalone story. There wasn’t the depth some books have but at just over 100 pages that is to be expected.
Thank you to the author who gave me an ARC to read through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
