I was one of the lucky ones to have two soulmates; my beautiful and incredibly spirited best friend, Becky, and my handsome boyfriend, Elijah.
Alice is a ballet prodigy. Her best friend Becky has been like sister to Alice since Becky's mother died. When Alice begins a relationship with Elijah she thinks her life is perfect then she receives devastating news.
This novel will make you so emotional. I haven't ugly cried over a novel since my first read of a Kristian Hannah. I had no idea that this novel was going to be so gut wrenching. The author really brought to life the feelings of those who are close to someone who that is going through what Alice is going through.
Alice as a character really touched me. I really felt that she is someone who I would know. Becky and Elijah were still really likable for me but I Alice was a real person to me.
That being said. I really love the first 2/3 more than the ending. (I thought this would be a 5 star read for me through the first part of the book). The last 1/3 is still really great but just didn't bring out the emotion that the first part of the novel did. The ending is important to the story and a main part of the plot not as emotional as the rest of the book.
It's really hard to give express how emotional the book is without giving away spoilers so I'll finish by saying I did really enjoy the 'Dying Wish' and would highly recommend it. It is definitely is one of the deepest and most emotional young adult novels I have read.
*I just want to mention one thing. I am a stickler for settings and believability in contemporaries. The setting where Alice lives is here in North/Central Florida. The descriptions in the story of the area just didn't fit. A big part of the conclusion of the story is that it hasn't rained in a year. This just doesn't happen in Florida or in any subtropical climate. If it did there would be major problems. (Florida in the summer is nothing but rain storms). So it stood out that the characters were so casual about there being absolutely no rain for an entire year.
