Thriller writer living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There are a lot of writers from here, something in the water or the long, cold winters?

The Ninth District is my first book. I'm working on the second in the series and another stand alone book.

Good beginning for the new series.
Super cell tornado, two escaped prisoners. Like the both FBI agent characters, especially Rupert. But please in the next book make sure they carry clean water and food for him.
Thank you Douglas Dorow for this free short story.

An interesting novella with a pretty good story line, but the characters are not well developed. Still worthwhile.

Good book, Ross Furan is now with FBI HRT. his partners in this book are Agents Stephens and Rupert. I love the canine aspect of the partnership.

As with the ninth district, enjoyed the writing and adventure of the book.

Looking forward to the next in each series.

Douglas Darow – Critical Incident Series Bk 1-3 - Supercell – Free Fall – Lost Art – Reviewed 6/29/21 – Read 6/28/21

Exciting action with the new members of the HRT, Fruen, Stevens, and Rupert, their K9 partner!

The Beginning…
Stevens was on his last assignment before finishing his tour in Afghanistan, he and his K9 partner, Rupert were working as overwatch for the movement of a prisoner for an FBI HRT team. While on the assignment things went a little haywire and both Stevens and Rupert were injured. Stevens was worried; he and Rupert had been partners for the last 12 months, he was not sure what he was going to do without him now that his tour was up. This injury to Rupert meant that it would be his last too. While he was sitting by Rupert’s hospital bed, the agent that he had been working with, FBI Agent Kiley, stopped in and told him that he would do all he could to get Rupert assigned to him. The other thing he brought up was that if he got tired of laying around, the FBI HRT would welcome him and Rupert aboard.

SUPERCELL Critical Incident #1
Agents Fruen and Stevens along with their K-9 partner Rupert, are the newest members of the team on the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team. Their first assignment is to recapture two escaped convicts after a supercell tornado hit the maximum-security prison located on the plains of Nebraska.

FREE FALL Critical Incident #2
The FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team which includes, Agents Fruen and Stevens along with their K-9 partner Rupert, are called in to find a kidnapped 12-year-old girl. Due to a storm that was about to hit the Northeastern US, it was decided that they would parachute into the area where they figured the kidnapper had taken the young girl.

LOST ART Critical Incident #3
The FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team which includes, Agents Fruen and Stevens along with their K-9 partner Rupert, are called in when a museum in Salem Massachusetts is robbed. Some of the art thieves escaped but left two of their gang behind to take the rap. The trio teams up with Special Agent Val Martinson, a member of the Art Crimes Team.

Join Agents Fruen, Stevens, and Rupert, teaming up with the FBI’s HRT in combatting crime…

What did I like? I am not sure how I managed to get a short story called “The Last Assignment” but after I finished reading it, I just knew that I had to read the rest of this author’s work. I downloaded these three novellas in the Critical Incident series and realized that I should have started with his other series, An FBI Thriller, which at this point has two books in it. I am currently reading book one, “The Ninth District”, which is about Agent Fruen’s first assignment with the FBI. I had to force myself to stop reading so that I could work on the reviews.

What will you like? These are short reads, but they will capture your attention from the first to the last. I highly recommend that you start with the FBI Thriller series, but it is not necessary. All three are filled with humor, compassion, excitement, and intrigue. Each features a different assignment that will have you on the edge of your seat. All are excellent reads that I am sure you will enjoy. The great thing about all of these is, every one of them is on Kindle Unlimited and available NOW!

A great thriller with a special K9 as well.
What a great book especially if you are a dog lover and this series is something I could really get into and is a easy going read but still holds your attention.
Having just read “The Last Assignment” I went straight into this short story as well and it didn’t disappoint. A great read and basically it is about tow new FBI agents in the “Hostage Rescue Team” being Ross and Stevens plus Stevens partner Rupert the K9. Both having just completed their training and only just unpacked after introduced to one another they are off on their first mission chasing two run away prisoners after a twister. The story keeps you going and it’s one I would recommend.

A storm sets up the circumstances for an escape. Like leaving a car running with the keys in it. There leaves a wee bit of sympathy for the escapees. Suspense has always been Dorow's style. This keeps you on edge to the very end.

Short story.

New Agent Furan has just joined the FBI Hostage Rescue Team and meets Agent Stephens and canine Rupert. When a tornado hits the Nebaska State Penitentiary, the team is told to locate two escapees.

The escapees aren't in a rush to get caught.

Canine agents are clever.

Likeable characters (well, the FBI ones) and believable story.

Good read, very short

Not a long book but have a first look at 3 newbies and how well they work together recapturing 2 escaped convicts. I liked it and already have the 2nd book.

Good idea for a story

Story moves quickly to a slightly twisted ending. Characters are interesting but will require many more stories to become fully developed.

This is a great little novella with lots of action and interesting characters! The scenes, including those depicting tornadoes are well described and the actions of the people believable. Like me, you will want to see stories related to the protagonists, especially the furry one!

Decent well written

A nice simple read as a pallet cleanser between books. Not my typical genre but I'm glad I read it.

A very good short thriller, made the more special by Rupert (to whom I owe a huge apology for reading Rupert and thinking Ruprecht).

Besides being short and easy to read, the story was enjoyable. I'm not sure who was the most important character, but I tend to think it was Rupert, the dog, trained to do police work. The other most important "character" might be the supercell tornado that caused the incident.

Ross, Stevens and Rupert are the newest members of the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) and they are asked to prove themselves when the team is called to Nebraska to help quell a prisoner uprising at a maximum security prison that is disrupted by the direct hit of the tornado. Two prisoners escaped and Ross, Stevens and Rupert are assigned the task of finding them and bringing them back. The story of the prisoners desperate run for freedom and the law enforcement officers tracking them provides the meat of the story. Very well written!

This was just a neat short little novella. It is spin off of one of the characters from another of his books, that I think I read but I would need to go through my list here to figure it out. Overall not bad.

Amazing book.

I enjoyed every minute, believable actors, fast paced action, a little humor and snark. As with all great short stories, this grabs your attention and holds on to the end. I look forward to the next adventure.
