My first experience reading Debbie Macomber and it definitely won't be my last. I actually did the audio on this book and the storyline was very moving, well placed, with two strong characters that were easy to bond with.
Drew, a pastor with 2 children, who has been widowed for 4 years, and Shay, who is attempting to move on from an evil ex-boyfriend and a reckless, uncaring brother.
The chapters alternated between Drew and Shay which gave the listener a chance to become involved from both povs.
If you like this author you will enjoy this one. Highly recommended!

This is a Christian Fiction/Women's Fiction/Romance/Chick-Lit, and this is the 4th book in the New Beginnings series. I read the first three books in this series a while ago, but I never got to picking this book up. I am so glad I pick it up. I really enjoyed this series. Debbie Macomber is one of my favorite author, and this series is one of my favorite. I have to say no characters for the other books in this book series shows up in this book. I loved the character, and how they over come there problems in this book. Great book and very well written. (*)

Uplifting, Powerful, and Full of Love!
Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber is a beautiful story about second chances, love, trust, faith, and redemption! Debbie Macomber has a wonderful way of bringing all her characters to life - simply an incredible story from beginning to end.
Shay Benson loved her brother Caden, and all she wanted to do was help him stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, that act of kindness cost her three years of her life behind bars. Now she is determined to start over, she finds herself searching for a place to stay and walks into a church to escape the cold. Pastor Drew Douglas lost his wife to cancer and has been struggling ever since to take care of his two children and his church. Now he is thinking about a fresh start and as he walks through his church he finds Shay sitting in a pew.
Shay and Drew form a friendship. Drew wants to help Shay get back on her feet and introduces her to the Hope Center. While staying at the Hope Center she learns what it's like to have people care about her for the first time in her life. Shay has been given a second chance at life and can finally learn to trust again. Shay and Drew's friendship starts growing into something deeper. Could romance be in the air? Such a good and sweet book! I cried several times! There needs to be a sequel. I'm not ready to leave these characters.
There are two curse words in this book (in context and makes sense. There is a convict and ex con in the story, it's not all roses) but besides that, exceptionally clean.
I love, love, love how the characters healed separately and then were friends and then dated. Sometimes in romances I want to scream when the author has two broken people start a relationship. This was done so well and so healthy!! Two giant thumbs up!!!! One of my favorites of the year!!

I really enjoyed this book! A different change of pace
Debbie Macomber is known for her stories of overcoming mistakes and regrets. Of people changing and finding new paths. And, also, connecting with those that are seemingly opposite’s in every way. But this story seems to take that theme to a different level.
I’m not sure what it is that made this book different for me. Two completely opposite people that are struggling to find an answer to what is missing in their lives? To find happiness? Or maybe it’s the fact that it is a an unacceptable relationship for many?
The fact of the matter is, and as the author poignantly points out, is that recognizing and feeling a connection between two people is God’s will and not our will. The only thing we have to do is be open and excepting of that relationship, as long as it is healthy.
This story is rich with deep emotion and intense feelings. We get to know these two people on an intimate level. I am not talking physically, but emotionally. Choices can be difficult – right or wrong and everyone involved in the story had something to learn and deal with. It was a powerful read for me.
While I think some of the background on Shay could have been explored more intensely so we could connect with her better, there is only so much an author can pack in without overwhelming the reader. The author chose to focus on the present and not too much from the past. It was enough for me.
Overall, this book is brought to us from a Christian point of view and is a lovely romance for all ages. Another winner with Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber. Don’t miss it!

I love Debbie Macomber's Christmas stories. I haven't read too many of her books that aren't set during Christmas time so this was a fun change of pace for me and her books. I really enjoyed it! I enjoyed the different characters, the pacing, the lapse of time, the theme, the plot. Definitely an all around good read.
Shay is one of those characters that you feel torn about. Not torn in a bad way but torn because you see the struggle and dilemma that she is faced with and you are torn hoping the choices she makes would be a little different. Now if she followed those choices then the novel wouldn't be what it is of course. So you sit back, keep reading, turning pages and silently cheering this character on in your mind. Hoping that her goodness will be seen and her trust in others with be worth the risk.
Drew, another character you're torn about. Someone who has lost a strong foundation in his life. He's trying to rebuild it but struggling with the load and pain of the labor. He's floundering under the heavy load, and when he is at his breaking point, there's a lightening, a lifting off of the weight. Not all at once but slowly and the ability to breath and keep building that foundation is possible again.
Two characters from two completely different backgrounds are brought together. Alone they struggle and are drowning but together their ability to succeed and inspire and help those around them is beyond what anyone would or could imagine. Especially considering their vast differences.
That might seem very vague but it truly summarizes this story and the two main characters. Of course there is so much more involved because I haven't added any details or information about the other characters who also play a part in the growth and change. There's lots of pain, sorrow, heartache, loss of dreams, hope, trust, healing, love, peace, friendship (especially the very unlikeliest of friendships), anger, feeling of absolute loss after hope, forgiveness, safety, redemption, acceptance, prejudice, achievements.
I probably could keep going but I'll stop there with all my descriptive words.
I was very invested in these characters while reading. I've decided that they're my new book friends. Shay and Drew and many more, Lilly, Richard. Yep most definitely my new book friends. As I was writing my previous review I realized that that book was also very similar in themes and the process of healing and redemption. Two completely different storylines except for those themes. I love how no matter the story or situation, those themes are always very prevalent and true in any aspect of our lives. This is a Christian fiction novel for sure but for those who aren't Christian and don't believe that, I still believe that everyone has that feeling of hope or the desire of hope in their lives. Hope for a better future, hope to do well, hope to overcome mistakes. Hope for something.
If you are or are not a Debbie Macomber fan, I highly recommend this book. It's different than other books I've read by her, and yet it's similar. Read it, savor it and hopefully you'll fall in love with the characters like I did.
Content: Clean. Talk of drug use, but nothing graphic. Talk of past relationships but nothing graphic. Kisses, the couple talks about not having a physical relationship until after marriage. A character gets attacked by a gang member.

Any Dream will Do is about Second Chances, starting over, love, and faith
Shay Benson goes against her better judgement to help her younger brother and pays for it dearly. After serving her time, she finds herself in a church trying to make sense of what she is going to do next in her life. She believes that she is there alone but is soon approached by Pastor Drew Douglas.
Drew Douglas has been mourning the loss of his wife the last 4 years. His congregation is suffering and he needs to find purpose in his life. When he sees Shay alone in his Church he offers her help by way of taking her to a shelter run by his friend.
Drew and Shay see each other sporadically as he occasionally checks in on her and agrees to attend her graduation from the program. Both feel a connection with the other. They are an unlikely match but both see the good in the other. Both need to time to trust and be willing to commit to another person again.
With all romance stories, there is a wrench in their plans for a happy relationship. Shay's ex-boyfriend and brother come back into the picture to cause some drama and angst. Through communication, trust, and community both find support and acceptance.
This is a sweet story about starting over, hope, faith and love. There is nothing graphic in this book and what is even more surprising is that the romance did not feel rushed nor did the ending. My biggest gripe with romance books is that the ending is rushed, everyone falls in love and they all need to get married right away. This book feels like it takes its time which is a good thing. Nothing is rushed. I enjoyed how they both learned to trust each other and formed a friendship first. I also like that many topics were covered even if in a minor way - death, loss, homelessness, prison.
This is a fast read perfect for a sunny summer day spent at the beach or while relaxing in the backyard.

This is a great little read. Not the kind I usually gravitate to. But very enjoyable. I felt really connected to the characters, Drew and Shay. It has some great themes that I think are important. It's a romance, sure, but so much more.
Shay commits a crime to save her brother and gets caught. She goes to prison. When she is released, she has no money and nowhere to go. She finds herself getting out of the weather in a church. That is where she meets the pastor, Drew. They form a friendship that at first I questioned. But, they both are in need of second chances for different reasons...no spoilers. I thought the plot very well developed and moved at a great pace. I found it realistic and could identify with the characters and their struggles and joys. I rarely read this kind of book but am so glad I gave this one a chance. It was a breath of fresh air in the midst of heavier books.

Confession--Apparently I thought this author was someone else when I entered to win this from Goodreads. I was not expecting Christian lit. That said, this is very easy reading. Macomber is definitely a pro and tugs away at those heartstrings in an unlikely romance full of near misses and outside pressures. What makes the book really excellent in my opinion is the deft handling of "church people" and showing their, well hypocrisy may be too strong a word but I'll go with it, in judging the heroine. What I did not like was the predictability of plot (seriously who didn't know who stole the money or why?) But on the other hand the title and explanation of that concept was extremely moving and powerful. I'd almost recommend the book on that alone.

Well now.....
I listened to the first two books in this series and I really enjoyed them. the third book not so much. this book not at all. the only reason I gave it two stars was because I just could not bring myself to give one star to Debbie Macomber. I am really shocked at the rave reviews that this book has gotten. you all must be hard core Debbie Macomber fans because I cannot think of anything that I liked about this book. it was extremely predictable and so corny. I'm sorry I can't say anything good about it so I believe Debbie and I are about to call it quits. we're going to part ways. if you do the audiobook let me leave you with this: a great voice an audiobook narrator does not make.

This isn't my usual type of read but I really enjoyed reading this story. It's such a sweet and eye opening read.
It shows you how much others judge people due to their pasts.
It show that people are able to change and that people deserve second chances.
This story was similiar to all of those lifetime movies my mother watched when I was younger. This was such an inspirational read it just warms your heart.

5 "Faith, Love & 2nd Chances" Stars for the story and narration!
I've been meaning to try a book for Debbie Macomber for some time now. The blurb for Any Dream Will Do finally made me to give Ms. Macomber a try, and boy did I pick a great first book to sample Ms. Macomber's works! I absolutely loved the faith and hope-filled message in this story that provides inspiration that even those who have had the hardest luck and lived in dire straights are worthy of second chances and finding their HEA to boot! Moreover, the splendid narration by narrating duo Mark Deakins and Laurel Rankin make this a great choice for your next audiobook credit!
Shay Benson feels guilty for introducing her younger brother, Caden, to Shooter, her outlaw ex-boyfriend. So when Caden comes to Shay begging for money, claiming that he is dead if he doesn't produce it, Shay does the unthinkable and agrees to steal from her workplace (a bank) with the understanding that Caden will get her the money back in time to replace it before its noticed. Of course, Shay knew this scheme was a long-shot, but she agrees to help her brother anyway because she feels responsible and loves him. Therefore its no surprise when she's arrested and convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to a number of years in jail.
Of course Caden promptly disappears and never even contacts Shay during her years in jail. A few years later when she completes her sentence and is released, she's completely alone and doesn't have anyone to turn to. Fortunately for Shay, however, she has the good fortune of stumbling into a church and meeting Pastor Drew Douglas.
Pastor Drew Douglas has had his fair share of misfortune, including the death of his wife and the mother of his kids. Its been several years since her death, but he hasn't been able to recover from the crippling depression. His mental state has even started to affect his congregation which is now in financial trouble.
But that fortuitous day when Shay meets Pastor Drew by chance ushers in a sequence of events, which sets both of their lives on a course of healing and renewal, not to mention an opportunity for experiencing love again. It all commences when Pastor Drew recognizes Shay's need and offers to take her to a rehabilitation center. Shay's accepted into the one-year program and Pastor Drew is reunited with an old friend (the man who runs the rehabilitation center) who also recognizes the need in him and who helps him restart his life through friendships and an exercise in a basketball league. I also thought that each narrator did a fantastic job with infusing their delivery with the situation specific emotion--a narrator trait that is essential for such an emotional and inspirational story such as this.

I've been meaning to try a book for Debbie Macomber for some time now. The blurb for Any Dream Will Do finally made me to give Ms. Macomber a try, and boy did I pick a great first book to sample Ms. Macomber's works! I absolutely loved the faith and hope-filled message in this story that provides inspiration that even those who have had the hardest luck and lived in dire straights are worthy of second chances and finding their HEA to boot! Moreover, the splendid narration by narrating duo Mark Deakins and Laurel Rankin make this a great choice for your next audiobook credit!
Shay Benson feels guilty for introducing her younger brother, Caden, to Shooter, her outlaw ex-boyfriend. So when Caden comes to Shay begging for money, claiming that he is dead if he doesn't produce it, Shay does the unthinkable and agrees to steal from her workplace (a bank) with the understanding that Caden will get her the money back in time to replace it before its noticed. Of course, Shay knew this scheme was a long-shot, but she agrees to help her brother anyway because she feels responsible and loves him. Therefore its no surprise when she's arrested and convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to a number of years in jail.
Of course Caden promptly disappears and never even contacts Shay during her years in jail. A few years later when she completes her sentence and is released, she's completely alone and doesn't have anyone to turn to. Fortunately for Shay, however, she has the good fortune of stumbling into a church and meeting Pastor Drew Douglas.
Pastor Drew Douglas has had his fair share of misfortune, including the death of his wife and the mother of his kids. Its been several years since her death, but he hasn't been able to recover from the crippling depression. His mental state has even started to affect his congregation which is now in financial trouble.
But that fortuitous day when Shay meets Pastor Drew by chance ushers in a sequence of events, which sets both of their lives on a course of healing and renewal, not to mention an opportunity for experiencing love again. It all commences when Pastor Drew recognizes Shay's need and offers to take her to a rehabilitation center. Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber sucked me in right from the beginning and I couldn't believe that it was 352 pages long. It felt like 100. It is delightful, warm and entirely a 'feel good' book. And... just a little different to her other books to make me sigh with happiness when I had finished.
I loved the characters. Shay is a little hard edged to begin with, but then her life has been no picnic and she has had it tough since childhood. Now being 'played' by her brother and having just completed three years imprisonment, she is in danger of being out on the street until she meets Drew Douglas.
Sure Drew is a pastor, but he is still in depression after losing his wife Katie and could himself be in danger of losing his role at the church. However in reaching out to help Shay he finds friends who reach out a hand to him and lift him up and out. He has two adorable children Mark and Sarah, they take up a good space in the story and I really liked that.
As well there are a circle of people around Drew and Shay who are minor characters but are mostly very likeable or a little prickly but redeemable. There are a couple of homeless men who caught my attention, both wonderful and showed a side of Shay that said so much about her. I would have liked to see a little more of them.
There is a little bit of mystery towards the end that seems to put Shay in danger of losing what she has worked so hard for. That mystery wasn't difficult to work out ( I think the reader was meant to do so), but it all works out of course.
A charming, warm and uplifting story.

Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber
Another amazing book by Debbie Macomber. This book is very well written with excellent character development. With that being said it sucked me in from the first page.
Shay is a young lady who is trying to do right in her life. Her only family member left is her brother who has gotten into some series trouble. While trying to help her brother out she ended up going to prison. When she got out she decided to move to a new town and start over from nothing. While starting over she is learning that dreams are possible and so are second chances.

Picking up a book by Ms. Macomber is like a balm for the soul. While this starts out a little differently from her others, the wonderful storytelling we've come to expect is still there. She has a gift for creating magic on the pages. I love Shay immediately. Getting out of prison after three years, she feels all is lost. Until a kind stranger helps guide her where a future may be possible after all. This spans over a year so friendship and romance slowly develop. Pastor Drew is a rare breed of man who sees the good in others. If you're looking for a gentle romance, look no further.

Shay is a felon. What happens to her after her release from prison is probably the least likely scenario that she could imagine. What a story of redemption and love! This is one of Ms Macomber’s very best!

A few months ago I was talking to an acquaintance about books and she mentioned how much she likes Debbie Macomber because the books make her happy and she feels "safe" reading them. I'll definitely need to point her towards this book because I know she'd love it.
I too enjoy this author, and I liked this one and its focus on basically just the main characters and two points of view (although the side characters were lovely). Shay was a great protagonist - she had been through a lot and felt worthless, and I loved seeing her change. I'm so glad the author made all of the changes, as well as the love story, take time - that is MUCH more realistic. There is some focus on religion (after all, the male main character is a pastor), but the book isn't preachy - the ideas were about serving the less fortunate. Anyway, I would recommend this book!

Did not finish - overwhelming Christian themes plus unbelievable set up in the beginning plus the overall terrible Hallmark movie vibe drove me away from this book. There are better Macomber books to read than this, and I was disappointed.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I never hesitate when a new Debbie Macomber book is released, she is such a wonderful storyteller and her books are always well worth the read. I loved this story from beginning to end! A heartwarming story with a wonderful cast of characters who make you believe that a second chance is available to everyone who seeks it. Highly recommend!

This is one of the best Debbie Macomber books that I have read in a while. It is a story of the difficult subject of making a wrong decision that affects the rest of one's life. But, it is also a story of redemption and getting a second chance to change our path to a more positive and productive path.
Shay Benson and her brother Caden live in Seattle and are the only family that each other has. Shay has finally gotten her life on course working at a bank when Caden asks her for money. Caden always has a problem with money because of poor choices. Shay doesn't have the money to loan but when Caden said that he would be killed if he doesn't get it, Shay gives in and takes the money from the bank. And she lands in prison. When she is released three years later, she doesn't have anywhere to go. She never heard from Caden after giving him the money and has no idea where he is. After taking a bus to downtown Seattle, Shay wounds up in a church where she sits and tries to get an idea of what she needs to do.
Pastor Drew Douglas lost his wife to cancer and is in a spiritual slump. Life is hard raising their two children while trying to be the leader of his church but yet mourning the loss of his wife. After spending time in prayer at the front of the church, he spots Shay at the back of the church. Shay touches him when he hears her story so he called a minister friend, Kevin, who is involved in street ministry through Hope Center, a place that helps people get back on their feet. Shay is able to get into the program and works hard to turn her life around. God leads people into our life for a reason and this is no exception. When Drew tells Kevin of his feelings of depression and unhappiness, Kevin gets him involved in a group of friends playing basketball and fellowship. This makes a big change in Drew's perspective on life and his sermons back where they need to be.
It is fun to watch Shay turn her life around and grow spiritually against many odds and conflicts. Drew is touched by watching Shay's growth and they develop a friendship that involves Drew's children. Shay even begins attending Drew's church but many church members don't trust an ex-con. We all think of church as a place to be uplifted and welcomed but we all know that churches are made up of people who are normal and imperfect--myself included. This is a feel good book that stayed with me as I thought about the messages that Ms. Macomber brought out in her storytelling. I can't imagine being homeless with no one to turn to. We take our families and blessings for granted sometimes. This is the most spiritual book of hers that I can remember reading and I thought that it was great. I know her faith is very important to her and that came through in this book--a book of second chances, faith, trust, courage and forgiveness.

Debbie Macomber has done it again. This book is exactly what I needed to read right now. It has everything. There is betrayal, anger, forgiveness, family loss, unsuspecting emotions, friendship, loyalty, respect, acceptance, love, unsuspecting emotions, and second chances. There is also a Christian theme running throughout the story that is necessary to the storyline.
Shay Benson was a character that grew in leaps and bounds in this book. She went from a bitter, angry, knocked down woman to someone who believed in herself and her talents, thanks to the Hope Centre where she received counselling and education. The Douglas family is getting by, four years after the loss of their wife and mother Katie. Pastor Drew is a clergyman who's faith is shaky and Shay was just what he needed. His character also changed dramatically over the course of this book. He was always a wonderful father, but he grew as a loving human being who was able to become a better Pastor and father. The narration was done in alternating chapters with Shay and Drew which gave different perspectives to some of the same scenarios. The book flowed smoothly and came to a wonderful conclusion. Several bumps along the way, added to the buildup of the story. Yes, this is a feel good book, but it is a story that is believable. That is exactly what I want when I pick up a book by Debbie Macomber. If you are looking for a book to make you feel good, go through a range of emotions and root for the characters, then pick this one up. You will not be disappointed.

Even tho ive read other Books by Debbie Macomber i wasnt sure what to expect from this one since it was abit different from the others but surprisingly i enjoyed this one more then i thought i would.
The Characters were fun and interesting to read about. Pastor Drew ended up being my favorite. I did like the main characters somewhat but i wish they hadnt been so hesitant to change in the beginning of the book.

My Thoughts.....
Who would have thought that Shay Benson and Drew Douglas who were complete opposites would one day come together and actually fall in love? We find that Shay has just been released from prison and finds herself showing up at Drew's church where we find that he is a widower, pastor and also a single father of two who was frowning in sadness. Now why was that? This author does well in giving the readers a real intriguing emotional story of just how life can change and present its form in so many different ways as it was for Shay. One could see why Shay may have had a chip on her shoulder as her life hadn't been easy for her at all especially with her father and brother. It was sad to see how she had been too trusting with her brother that she seemed to not being able to tell him NO. Will Shay learn from this bad experience she had gone through? Well, the story is quite deep and you will just have to pick this well written story that this author presents to her readers to see how things will change for Shay as she seems to have been given a second chance and finally have found someone who truly loves her.

From the first to the last page this story became a compelling page-turner, and I could just see it unfold like a TV movie, and it sure would make a great one.
Shay Benson has not had an easy life, and early on took responsibility for her brother, and in the end it costs her dearly to the point she ends up in jail.
Fate or not, I believe God had a hand in bringing her just where she needed to be on that December day, and just where Pastor Drew needed her to be. Yes, he needed her as much as she needed him, and in turn they are the saving of each other, and the beginning of new lives.
This story has it all, so much love and compassion for fellow man, no matter their station in life. Shay ends up worming her way into the hearts of Drew’s children, and of course Drew, but will the parish ever accept him having a relationship with a convicted felon?
There are life lessons here for everyone, from a little child to an elderly person, from the rich to people living on the street, and you see God working with all of them. A book you don’t want to miss!

I am beginning to really, really like Debbie Macomber's books. They're not my usual type of romances -- historical or suspense driven, with big, rich alpha males. No, all the people in Macomber's books are people that you'd recognize from your own life.
Her themes of second chances and redemption really do your heart good and this novel is no different. At first, I was worried that since one of her characters was a Pastor that I would have to put up with a lot of preaching, but that wasn't the case. Yes, there was a lot of lessons that you would love to bring up in Church, but I never felt it was heavy handed.
Great read.

It's been years since I've read a Debbie Macomber book. Despite the religious undertones i enjoyed this low-keyed romantic book. Stories about redemption and finding oneself always intrigue me. If you are a Macomber fan this book is a must read.

I don't know how she does it but EVERY book I've read written by this woman leaves me with a feeling of being engulfed in a huge hug. What more can I say.

The premise for this story is a good one that wasn't handled well. Drew and Shay, the two main characters, had experienced a lot in their lives by the start of the book. However, their behaviors were more like two high school kids experiencing "life" for the first time. The conversations and thoughts were a bit too sugary for real people. Some good editing to remove repetitious thoughts and dialogue would have helped as well as situations that REALLY injected some tension into the story. I've read a few other books by Debbie Macomber and liked all of them better than "Any Dream Will Do."
