Black Cat Cafe #9

Jingle Buried Cookies

Rate this book
Leona’s Christmas cookies are leaving a trail of cookie crumbs that lead anywhere but to a happy holiday. As soon as Annie and Jason return from a romantic getaway, a Santa-sized sack of problems lands on their doorstep. Jason might be able to pretend it doesn’t exist and just enjoy the upcoming holiday parties, but Annie has to help keep Aunt Leona out of trouble. Again. Running only on caffeine, the women get ready for the Black Cat Café’s Christmas extravaganza. A last minute change to who will come as Santa Claus threatens to bring the whole event down. But quick thinking and a willing volunteer save the day. Until that willing volunteer imbibes one drink too many. But that’s the least of the problems that keep piling up faster than the snowflakes of a Nor’easter. A body, poisonous berries, and competition from a cutthroat competitor threaten to end the Black Cat Café once and for all. Annie tries to sift through the half-baked information to uncover the real motive—and killer—before it’s too late. ***Jingle Buried Cookes is volume 9 in the Black Cat Cafe Cozy Mystery Series. Lyndsey’s books can be read and enjoyed in any order.

I gave this a lower rating than usual because the keeping Leona out of trouble story line is becoming more than a little monotonous. Leona's personality is grating on my nerves and I'm hoping she moves far, far away. Or maybe Annie and her husband can move far away. That's always an option.

Another great episode in the life of Annie Fisher (sorry now Annie Hunter!), Catfish Cove and The Black Cat Cafe, Annie and Jason are starting to regret having arrived home as Annie's Aunt Leona is planning on a pre-Christmas event to die for, unfortunately the stand in Santa takes that literally! It also turns out there are plenty of people who wished him ill, from the various women he groped (on a regular basis), through his wife and various others.

Oh and add in the fact that a rival bakery is trying to sabotage Leona's business and it looks as though a lot of people will be on the naughty list this year, but then it gets even more serious when Annie is nearly run down, saved by a local young man with learning difficulties - here's hoping Annie and the police can sort it all out so a Merry Christmas can be had by all.

I was so busy suspecting who I wanted to be guilty that I almost missed some clues. But toward the end, I started figuring things out and was right. I felt bad for Annie once again having to keep Leona under control. Leona's an awesome lady but boy you don't wanna be on her bad side or get her mad at you, lol. In this book she's definitely not happy at (yet again) being a suspect, and I can't blame her.

I love that little Roxy pup got to help with the showdown! The perp was hauled off and everyone was able to settle down and have an awesome Christmas.

Hints Galore, but still a Surprise Twist

It was a great mystery to the end. Several suspects are present when a drunk, womanizing husband dies at a party with evidence pointing to two warring bakers as well as the wife. A hit and run accident complicates the suspect list along with a property fight. What is important and what is a red herring make this a tough one to solve.

Suspenseful thriller to the very end. I would never of thought the killer was going to be the killer...... however, another chapter or two would have been perfect as to what happened to the killer and the hit n run person.

Our friend Mary makes cookies for all occasions. She has never yet been accused of poisoning anyone. Thank goodness, because Annie doesn’t live near here. I enjoyed the story and recommend the boo.

I enjoyed seeing Annie and Jason happily married. Leona looks like she is a murderer so of course Annie jumps in to prove the cops wrong.
The story line was a little slow moving but the characters were delightful and a really good fast read.

Cookies and murder

I enjoyed this mystery. It kept you guessing right up to the end. Annie and Jason make a good couple. They compliment each other and enjoy being together, when they get the chance.

Christmas and Murder...

Two things that author Lyndsey Cole managed to intertwine beautifully. Suspicions fly towards almost everyone in this story. Heartwarming Christmassy treats and carols abound as well. Nobody is free from suspicion as the man portraying Santa exhibits less than appropriate behavior before dropping dead in the snow at the Black Cat Cafe Christmas party! Well written and enjoyable just like the first 8 books in this series!

What a gifted author.

This book captured my attention from the first page and got better with each page turned. I didn't even guess the bad guy correctly until the very end when he threatened Charlene.

Twisty

This book leads you down a twisted path with plenty of suspects to keep you guessing. Characters are aggressive and abrupt in parts.

WOW!

Some of these mysteries really come dangerously close to doing in the good guys but as usual another good guy comes in to save the day. Really good.

Kindle Unlimited, lot of stuff going on in these stories, although most never makes sense and some just hurts, as in cardboard characters and situations.
