Basic Colored Pencil Techniques

Rate this book
Easy-to-follow demonstrations show you how to use colored pencils to paint trees, flowers, animals, people and other popular subjects.

The colored pencil is an easy-to-use, inexpensive and incredibly expressive medium. And nobody is more skilled with the pencil than Bet Borgeson.

Using many visual examples to illustrate her points, Bet will teach you how to use layering, burnishing, lifting color and other basic colored pencil techniques to create an exciting range of effects - from highly detailed realism to loose, luscious color. She also offers advice on choosing the right materials, conveying textures, layering in backgrounds, and combining colored pencil with other mediums.

Very good book that's exactly what's on the tin. :) I think I saw this used in Uptown a couple weeks ago - I'm going to check to see if it's still there. It'll be easier to use as a reference if I have a physical copy on hand, instead of repeatedly borrowing the ebook from the library.

..I am no artist, just a colorist but I learned how I could make my colorings more individual and lively.

A solid resource full of easy to follow ideas and directions without ever dumbing it down for the reader. I have had this book for a long time and intend to keep it still as I periodically revisit it from time to time.

An interesting and informative look at how to reduce the layers in your art without losing the depth and illustrative quality of the piece.

If there was something I didn't know about, it was how to make colored pencil drawings look like paintings. This book is good at explaining technique.
