Drawn In Bible Study: Esther is a Bible study of Esther, (also available for Mary and Ruth) that is for beginners. Dr. Peterson used to teach at theological seminaries, then suddenly found himself a pastor at a church where most people knew next to nothing about the Bible. Going from a group who was deeply interested to beginners was a shock but it helped him to develop this Bible study series for people.

Filled with pictures to color and questions that require some thought as you read the retelling of Esther (in simplistic form) on the pages of the book. There are plenty of spaces to write answers to the questions.

The verses are not printed out in this study guide so those who do it will need a Bible, a pen, coloring pencils or markers and maybe a notebook for additional notes if you tend to be wordy. A great book for a new Christian, for seekers, and for those who are interested in beginning to deepen their time in the word.

This is not a Bible study for advanced Bible students, but it is a great beginner's guide. Recommended for those mentioned above in addition to women's groups, tweens, teens, small group studies, and Bible study groups.

I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Finding that coloring is a way for me to relax and refocus, I have several adult coloring books. Although - This is my first Bible Study with coloring and Eugene Peterson - remember The Message- (www.NavPress.com) does a tremendous job of getting people into scripture and learning about one of our Heroes of the Old Testament in Esther. Finding Yourself in Times of Trouble.

Many of us grew up reading the Bible and so we are familiar with this story about a beautiful girl, Esther, and how God orchestrates saving His nation, using this young maiden and her uncle Mordecai. If you are new to reading and studying the Bible or have been in the word fifty-eighty years, I believe that you will enjoy this Drawn In Bible Study, finding it a new and refreshing way to color, doodle, memorize as you study Esther, the seventeenth book in God's Word.

I recommend this unique Bible Study, as a short four week group Study or as a personal devotional book, and believe it would be appropriate for ages tween to quite elderly.

A special thank you to Tyndale House Publishers for this complimentary copy of Esther in exchange for an honest review.

Story Notes

Eugene Peterson partners up with The Navigators to bring a new and really fun way to study the book of Esther with a coloring book bible study!

Although I have not previously done a Bible study written by Eugene Peterson or The Navigators, I was really excited to do this study as it included two of my favorites: the book of Esther and coloring. I was a little apprehensive about how in depth the study would be as it seemed to be such a short book, however I found that Peterson and the Navigators had been careful not to neglect the importance of the actual study while offering the fun addition of an adult coloring book. It was really wonderful to ponder the Bible passage and questions to be answered while I colored the accompanying pages. I found that I spent longer considering the passage I read each day when I took the time to color the picture attached to the questions I was to answer. Add to this the relaxation that coloring brings to the mind and body and this was a perfect study for me. I was also very pleased with the actual study that was presented. The questions were very pointed and as I had to ponder them longer I found myself truly searching for what I would have said or done in a situation or recalling what I had done in the past. I have done studies on the book of Esther before but this study focused itself on the reasons why each of the characters acted in a certain way and if you agreed with their response or if you would have acted differently. It was thought provoking to consider how I would handle becoming the wife of a “heathen” king who was easily led by those around him. Another question that I found interesting was how I would have handled Haman and his evil intents while not being vengeful. So often we read a book or passage of scripture we have read several times before and yet never placed ourselves in the situation and considered if we would answer God’s calling in the same way. Peterson also pointed out an interesting happening in this powerful little book: God is not overtly seen or spoken of at all in the whole book, rather He is in the background, working and showing His children how to follow Him by serving. I had not realized this happening before and it gave me a new interest as I read to search out the subtle ways I could see God working in each situation that was included in Esther. I really enjoyed doing this study and coloring the pages that went with each chapter. I have already recommended it to several of my friends and am planning to purchase a copy for family members for either birthday or Christmas presents. I am also looking forward to purchasing the Drawn In study on the book of Ruth as well as the study on Mary, the mother of Jesus, as I believe they will be just as good or better than this one has been.

I received a free copy of this book from NavPress/Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation from either company for this review.

This is a smallish book. A nice size to carry.
It's a wonderful devotional, especially for a group of tween girls.
There is a page of Bible study about Esther and then on the left side there is a color page. Turn the tight page over and there is a page or half page of questions. These questions can be answered in a group setting or as a personal study.
I liked the devotional because it has many facets. Not only can one have a personal devotional but one can color and ponder the Bible story.
Personally, we are going to use these devotional in a group setting. It's a short just four weeks or a month of Wednesday nights.
When the girls have completed the Bible study they will have a sweet little book as a keepsake with their coloring in it too.
We had them write their name, date and what they hoped to gain from this Bible study in the front of the book/first page before when began the study.

This book is excellent for anyone who is new to studying the book of Ruth. It is a great foundational book with excellent questions that make you apply these lessons to your everyday life.

If coloring isn’t your thing...this book is for you.
