The fifth novella in the Galactic Football League series by #1 New York Times bestseller Scott Sigler.

THE REEF is a sequel to TITLE FIGHT. It's DJANGO UNCHAINED meets GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY in this bloody knuckle brawl of a story.

SYNOPSES:
Chaiyal "the Heretic" North, former Intergalactic Heavyweight Champ, flees the wrath of crimelord Gredok the Splithead by going to a place Gredok can't reach — "the Reef." A frontier planetoid where citizens try to scratch a living from the rock, the Reef is a lawless land ruled by the strong and the vicious.

For Chai, it's a hardscrabble life vastly removed from his former superstardom. No more media, no more octagon, no more bright lights, and no more mods. When he hits rock bottom, he must carve out a new existence free from the weight of his past.

Woo-hoo! The audiobook of THE REEF is now available. And since it's a GFL title, I'm the narrator. Boom.

We've updated the book cover, so I'll list that here (we need to get a Librarian to change that for us in the official listing. The former blue title looked dang near invisible at Amazon, so we had to punch it up a little.

We are one day into recording the audiobook. I am the narrator, as I am for all GFL books and novellas. Once the audiobook is done, we go into final production. This title will be released as eBook and audiobook..

I'm finishing up the final draft of this lovely novella. Thought I'd share a quote from it that tickled my fancy.

This is technically part of a series. The connection to the series is very loose and one does not need to read the series to know what is going on in this book. There was a previous novella which was Title Fight that was also a loose connection to the series. This one is a sequel to that novella. In this one, Chaiyal has traveled to a remote area of space because he is on the run. He was once a beloved sports star and he has hit rock bottom.

I have been a fan of the series that this is loosely tied into. The loose connection comes into play with an appearance from a character. Like I said the series is not required reading for this story but I recommend reading the series. The setting of this novella reminded of the Old West. This is a story we have seen in real life. It is about a huge star's career nose diving and becoming inconsequential and whether they can pick themselves off the mat. The story started off slow but picks up and I really enjoyed it. In typical Scott Sigler fashion we have insane and gory scenes. Even though this book has those wonderful scenes he also delivers a heartfelt message about life knocking you down and getting back up. This is a quick story that packs a punch.

Once again the author delivers a great story which I believed to be better than the first story where we met the main character. I listened to the podcasts that the author provides for this story. The author himself narrates the story and does an excellent job and you cannot beat the price (they are free). I am going to jump right into the next novella. Sigler is in the middle of offering the next story as free podcasts but I cannot wait. I am going to purchase the ebook right away. If this book is any indication of what is in store for me I will have a wild and enjoyable ride ahead of me.

THE REEF is a sequel to TITLE FIGHT, and one of the novellas that supplement that vast, varied, and deeply diverse Galactic Football League (GFL) series. The story picks up about two years after Chaiyal North is exiled to The Reef, an ancient, formerly-alive carcass on the edge of known space. Essentially a frontier with accompanying lack of lawfulness, The Reef is a place where people go to escape their past and build a future.

The future that Chai, now known as Lash Kari, builds for himself is less than purposeful, as he wallows in self-pity and dejection until his own choices catch up to him and force him to make deliberate changes to the way he lives.

Essentially a tale of redemption, THE REEF takes Chai on a path he never would have considered for himself, but ends up fitting as well as the championship belt he left behind. Full of new characters, locales and creatures, along with familiar settings and a few recognizable faces, THE REEF is a fun and exciting sidebar to the larger GFL universe.

It’s never easy to rise up when you’ve been knocked down by a foe. The hardest for to get up from is yourself. This is the foe that the main character in this novel faced. This story really shows me that strength is well beyond muscles and mental fortitude. It’s strength of character; even character you may not know you even have. I think that’s the power of this book.

A little confusing at first, as the character that we know and love (or hate, depending on who you were routing for in Title Fight) Chaiyal North has fled to The Reef at the outer end of the galaxy but he goes by a different name. It jumps back and forth with his name for a bit before I got used to it. Scott and Matt do a great job with character development and get you to feel for these anti-heroes.

I revere Scott Sigler as one of my favorite authors, but this novella ended extremely abruptly and with confusion. I expected more on the story, as it was leaving me completely hanging. May have just been something I missed but heck, enjoy what you can of it.

Another amazing Novella by Scott Sigler. My only complaint is that now it's even tougher to wait for GFL #6!

Damn Matt and Scott for making me root for a cop.

This was a great book, though a little more disjointed than TITLE FIGHT, it's predecessor. I think that's because TITLE FIGHT had the built in narrative of the build up to and the resolution of a title fight.

This book meandered a little more, and was a little more unpredictable because of it. Still worth reading.

Another really fun read by Scott Sigler. The Galactic Football League series just gets better and better and I am happy to hear there will be three more books in the series.
