It's Faythander's legend of King Arthur. And it's not for the faint of heart.
Olive Kennedy, Fairy World MD, isn't ready to go back to work. But when her dragon stepfather shows up on her doorstep with bad news of the world-ending variety, that's exactly what she'll have to do. He wants her to stop the elven queen from obtaining seven weapons of King Arthur fame, and he wants her to break into a dragon's vault to do it.
One problem. Silvestra, the silverwitch of Dragon Spine Mountain, guards the weapons. And she's not willing to give them up. With the help of Kull, her newly reunited, half-crazed Viking boyfriend, she's hopeful they'll stand up against the dragon. Plus, she'll have the help from Kull's warrior princess sister and a professional thief.
But Olive has never had great luck. What starts as a routine quest quickly turns into a life or death fight. And one of her companions won't make it out alive.

I voluntarily received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am still amazed by the world Tamara Grantham has created. It seems she has thought of every little detail and her writing brings those details to life through Olive and Kull's adventures. Silverwitch seems to be the fastest paced book in the series to me, at least so far, and the most intense.
It seems like every time I read the next book in the Fairy World series, I have a new favorite. They are all just that good and Olive Kennedy's story just keeps getting better and better. Silverwitch is currently my favorite, but I'm sure that will change once I read Deathbringer.
Gahh! I'm not sure I can agree this is a standalone book. Yes, it starts off with a random thing that quickly integrates into the existing timeline and by the end, you're left panting by a cliffhanger.
And... Maybe I've been blowing through these too fast to notice, but is there a reason everyone who's madly in love manages to remain sex-free? It's illogical and frustrating. Who has a Viking god as a boyfriend and doesn't jump him? Constantly? Magic, fairies, elves, dragons--I buy all that, but chastity? LOL. Nope.
The saga continues. Excellent story line, interesting characters that leave you wondering what's next. Thank you for a story that takes you on a wild ride and leaves you wanting more
Each book drags me in more. For every question answered more seem to pop up, sort of a one step forward and two steps back thing. I love that a real world legend is incorporated in some way into the other world.
Ok, this book series are one of my guilty pleasures. They are fast reading, and I love fantasy. And with Olivia able to go between Earth and Faytander (home of fairies, pixies, Wults, etc., they are a fun read.
Olive has saved Faythander quite enough. So what's one more stop-the-world-from-ending quest? It's more than she bargained for.
Taking refuge in Earth Kingdom after the unexpected ending of the bloodthorn, Olive has been dealing with a lot. Which is why she has avoided returning to the place of her birth for so long. There are secrets she would rather not share, and realities she would just as like to avoid.
All of which comes crashing down when Fan'twar, her dragon step-father and Sky King of Faythander, knocks on her door and requests that she go on an Arthurian-type quest for a magick weapon.
There's just one problem with that request. The weapon they need is guarded by Silvestra, the silverwitch dragon. In a race against the elves, Olive and co. will be hard pressed to retrieve the weapon and make it out alive.
At least Olive is used to desperate times and even more desperate measures.
Initial Thoughts:
Olive has the worst luck. I mean, really, she does. This poor girl. On the plus side? More adventures for us in Faythander! I'm game.
Characters:
Olive is still an emotional wreck. This time it has nothing to do with Kull, and everything to do with an evil Goddess invading her consciousness. With visions of her destiny taunting her, it's all Olive can do not to push away those who care about her, while still clinging to the hope that she will prevail. This new adventure only adds to her worries, however, as she faces a dragon with a penchant for riddles and the daily reminder that she could lose everyone she loves.
Kull is King, and he's got problems. The stability of the Wult Kingdom is fracturing as the conflict with the elves grows closer and his own people begin to turn against him. All the while the poor guy is just trying to help his girlfriend save the world. Again. But new realities settle into him this round and a true fear takes root inside of him. Thanks to the Silverwitch, Kull changes right before our eyes, and it's heartbreaking.
Also, Heidel has her own things to work through in this storyline, that we thankfully get a closer up view of in the novella Goblinwraith. I encourage you all to go forth and read it.
Plot & Setting:
We get to see a lot more of Faythander this time as we're dragged around by light rail to the desert country known for nefarious deeds. We're also uncomfortably aware of our imprisonment in the Silverwitch's castle. Oh, and a brief glimpse of the much-changed-since-we-first-saw-it capital of the elves. Lots of hopping around here, and it's all as fantastic as the previous books have led us to expect.
That being said, there's not a lot I can give you about the plot without spoiling all of it. However, I was pleased. It was fast-paced. Olive's luck is awful. Kull's works desperately to balance it out. And heartbreak occurs. All as we've come to expect.
Writing Style:
I will say it with absolutely no shame that I am in love with Ms. Grantham's writing. Her characterization is always spot on and she keeps true to the reactions her characters have for the situations they find themselves in. I'm also never given a moment to take a breath as her pace keeps pushing us forward, looking to overcome the next obstacle. It is a style that I appreciate a lot in my fantasy and why I keep coming back to her books time and again.
Overall Opinion:
'Silverwitch' kept digging claws into all of the sensitive parts of me, and I enjoyed it. These books make you endure everything Olive is going through, and they feel no qualms about taking your emotions along for the ride. In this one, it introduces new fears to our beloved characters as well as to the readers. Olive's destiny is drawing closer, and everyone is looking to change it.
This is fast-paced, magic filled adventure with a heroine who is ready to help where she can.
Olive's magic is more unpredictable than usual, but whether she's ready or not, she's pulled into another quest to save two worlds. After receiving a very rare visit from her step-father, she agrees to do what she can to stop the Fairy Queen from trying to take over the magical world. Olive's pretty sure she won't be of much help, but when so much life is on the line, she can't refuse.
One of my favorite thing about Olive is her insecurity. She has an immense amount of power-so she's told-but it never works the way it should. Even if she's not as tough as everyone seems to think she is, she won't let them down. She's determined, doesn't always come out on top and struggles every step of the way. In other words, she suffers from the same self-assurance issues as everyone else.
This is nonstop action with magic, life threatening situations and more. There's never a boring moment, and just when things seem to calm down, something unexpected happens to keep Olive on her toes. Even though this is the fourth book in the series, the plot still is filled with unexpected twists and turns. There are a few new characters - two of which are so layered and faceted that the line between good and evil becomes hazed.
There is romance too, and this book has a little more warming up on that end than the last one or two did. It's still not always sweet and is full of problems, but that matches the rest of the plot nicely.
A lot is still in play, and I can't wait to see how Olive tackles the biggest threat yet.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and enjoyed the read so much that I wanted to leave my thoughts.
Tamara Grantham could write a shopping list and I would preorder it and devour it from start to finish! I suspect however, that it would mainly consist of Dr Pepper! From the first book in this series, I was gripped with Olive Kennedy's story and, although the plots have become more complex, I definitely feel that the books are developing greater depth and that Tamara is developing as a writer. Sadly, this book has just been released and so I am restarting the entire series for the umpteenth time, already hankering after an update!
Fantastic!! This is fun read for those like enjoy adventure and fantasy. I cannot wait for the next book to find where the journey takes Olive and her companions!!
Silverwitch by Tamara Grantham is a wonderful continuation of the Olive Kennedy, Fairy World MD Series.
Olive has to face the Silverwitch and save Faythander. With her love, Kull, his sister, Heidel, and a thief, she faces the dragon in her den. And things immediately go down hill.
I love this series, and each one is better than the last. The world building is top-notch, and the characters are fully-fleshed out and likeable. I look forward for more in this series, and from this author.
WOW....This author has outdone herself once again with this new story. There is so much wonder, mystical twists, and magical turns at the turn of every page, along with surprising new revelations along the way. I was addicted and on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. This book was a lot of fun for me to read and it has also become my favorite story of the series yet. This book was incredible from the book cover to the characters and story-line. The ending was my favorite part of the book, though, I dare not say anymore. You will have to read and find out for yourself. This book will for sure enchant you into the mystical and magical world of Faythander. I highly recommend this awesome read.
As with each of the novels in this series, I was eager to dive into Silverwitch, and of course, once again, it didn't disappoint. While each of these novels can be read as a stand alone, once you read one, you'll want to read them all. The beauty of the world evolves on every page and just as with each novel, Ms. Grantham expands Faythander into so much more than you first imagined. This is truly an amazing series that you must read.
Along with my favorite characters, new ones add to this story, leaving you rooting for them and also reading along with a fear that they might not survive. The ending both broke my heart and made me cheer. I can't wait to see what's in store for Olive, Kull, and even Heidel.
This is the fourth book in the Fairy MD series and this fascinating work just keeps hooking me back in. If you haven't started this series and LOVE fantasy then you need to pick this up (especially as the first book is free right now). Magic, Mystery, Drama, and of course a little romance! This series has it all and I can't wait for the next one!
This book is just so wonderful, full of fantasy, suspense, romance. Everything to keep your interest. Olive is not ready to go back to work, but no choice. Olive has to go to the mountain where the silver witch resides. Of course Olive is never lucky and it doesn't start out well. A must to keep reading until the end.
This book was so amazing! The plot twists were great and I didn't seen coming. Your story telling gets better every book. The plot gets compelling every page. This is one of my favorite books of thee series
Excellent! If you enjoy fantasy, mystery, and adventure, then this series is for you! Well thought out characters share their stories in a rich world, both on Earth and Fairy World!
Another amazing adventure for Olive, seriously, what would Faythander do without her? We find Olive back on earth with a man she can't seem to help, and that is no good for her or her client. When Fan'twar comes to visit her at her apartment... on earth... as a human, you know something huge is happening, and it can't be good. Olive is needed to save Faythander again! She is still struggling from everything that had happened last time she was there, her feelings for Kull and the secrets she holds. Going back is going to be hard, but also much needed. And what choice does she have, if she doesn't come it could be the end of it all for Faythander. This non stop adventure is full of of ups and downs, good and bad, love and fierce rage, finding good come from the bad, and shows us why being honest with our loved ones is so important and gives us the strength we are looking for. And typical to Olive's powerful and prophesied life, with one victory comes another battle. This series just continues to amaze and keep me wanting more.
This book is most definitely my favorite volume in the series – at least so far! It contained so much intrigue, action, and suspense that it was almost unbelievable, and yet it carried an emotional depth to it that was equally as fascinating. Once again, there was a lot of cross-play between the worlds of Earth and Faythander. And quite a bit of travel across the fairy world takes place as well, exposing us to different aspects of this wonderful world the author has created that we haven’t been privileged to see before.
There is so much going on at all times in this story. It is pretty much non-stop action for the main characters: Olive, Kull, Heidel and the thief Maveryck. Not much of that can be explained without giving away key elements of the plot, but suffice it to say that there is hardly a dull moment...
We also see a lot of Fan’twar in this volume. Viewing him in his human form is quite unique and exciting...
This book was not without its share of depressing events and dreary atmosphere. The prophecy regarding Olive seems unable to be foiled, relations with Kull’s mother and any in his kingdom are quite tense, the future actually looks completely hopeless, especially in regard to Theht. When one of their comrades dies, it also seems rather unsettling. But everything seems a bit more tolerable because Olive was at long last able to open up a little. She finally shares her secret from “Bloodthorn” with Kull. (And I was so relieved when she did so! It really speaks to the power of the author’s storytelling that I feel so strongly for these imaginary characters!)... I can’t wait to read the next installments!
Silverwitch is the 4th book in the Olive Kennedy, Fairy World MD Series and it begins one week after the third book ends.
When Fan’twan shows up in the Earth Kingdom in human form you know things are bad. This 4th installment Olive has to figure out how to save her world all over again.
