One summer is all they have ...

Lance is a notorious player on and off the football field who never sees a girl more than twice. But with graduation now behind him, his days of carefree flirting are numbered. As soon as his summer internship is over, his parents expect him to return to Texas to take his place in the family business. He’s done everything he can to delay the inevitable, and he’s determined to live it up his last summer as his own man.

Abby comes from a world where men don’t stick around. Lance’s interest does nothing but put her on guard, especially when she finds out he’ll be leaving in less than two months. With two years left of college and a mom who relies on her for everything, Abby doesn’t have the patience for relationships that are doomed from the start. But Lance's persistence wears down her defenses. Abby convinces herself they’ll just have a summer fling, and she’ll be able to come through unscathed.

Will Abby be able to maintain her distance? Or will they both be heartbroken when the summer ends?

If you love steamy college romance featuring hot athletes and sassy heroines, check out this first installment in the hot new series everyone is raving about!

Q&A with Jerica MacMillan

Q: What’s special about the Players of Marycliff University series?

A: When I wrote these, I wanted them to be highly relatable. Yes, the guys are all hot college football players, but they have normal struggles with balancing school, family, and career goals with their personal relationships. Since it’s college romance, there’s a big emphasis on figuring out what you want out of life, but I think that’s a theme that resonates long past college age.

I do consider them a sports romance, but the football isn’t really the focus of the stories. The focus is on the characters and their relationships.

Q: What is the best order to read the books?

They’re all interconnected standalones, so it’s not completely necessary to read them in order, though I think it provides the best experience if you do. They were written and published in the following order:

Summer Fling
Convenient Fall
Managed Hearts

Q: Why should readers give these books a try?

Because they’re awesome!

In all seriousness, if you like steamy college romance with just the right amount of angst, then these books are perfect for you. The heroes are all hot college football players, and the heroines are spunky, sassy, and not afraid to stand up for themselves. They’re your new best friends just waiting for you to come and hang out!

I’ve been on a Jerica MacMillan binge lately. She’s a relatively new author, and I am loving her subtle style and beautiful voice. Everything about her books is lovely. The writing flows smoothly, the story is well thought out, and her characters are real people dealing with real situations. In a world where the onslaught of self-publishing has inundated the market with all manner and levels of talent and experience, it's also refreshing as hell to read a book that has virtually no editing errors! (on that note, please forgive my horrendous editing of this review.) The care and love Ms. Macmillan puts into her stories are obvious. This is a huge plus for me. I thoroughly enjoyed her Rebound Series (Rebound Therapy and Rebound Envy). But her writing absolutely shines in her New Adult series, Players of Marycliff University. I have a weakness for New Adult stories that revolve around campus life and this series promises to be great. Summer Fling is book one. Book two, Convenient Fall, releases May 16.

Abby would prefer to stay home and read, watch tv, or do homework than be dragged to another party by her BFF/roommate, Megan. But, rather than submit to one more lecture that will most likely include the words uptight, old maid, and live a little, Abby gives in. And, just as she predicted it’s the same old, same old. Loud, drunk, obnoxious people crowded into a house like sardines in a can. To top it off, some jerk just bumped into her, dumping her Jack & Coke down the front of her new tank top. Nice.

Lance is highly amused when the cute, petite blond tries to muscle him aside at the kitchen sink. She’s a spitfire; all business and snark as she tries to clean herself up from what looks like an entire Solo cup of spilled Coke. When she’s knocked against him, the remainder of her drink spilling all over his shirt, he uses the opportunity to put on the charm. He's used to girls falling all over him. He was on the football team at Marycliff until he graduated a few months ago, but the jersey chasers haven’t backed off. Lance has a rep as a player. He's not interested in dating or seeing a girl more that twice. Which he sticks to even more now that his time in Spokane is almost up. He’s obligated to go back to Texas and take over his dad’s mechanic shop whether he wants to or not. And he’s not looking forward to it. He has time for one more fling before he leaves and this cutie looks promising. She appears to have no idea who he is, and doesn’t even seem interested! A challenge just might be fun.

Abby and Lance are an unlikely couple yet there's a strong attraction that goes beyond the physical. Ms. MacMillan writes it beautifully. It’s also handled in a very believable way. Abby is not one for flings or casual sex. Her home life wasn’t all roses and Barbie dolls. She’s still playing parent to her dysfunctional mom. School is her ticket out of that dismal existence and she’s not going to throw it away for some player/jock. On the other hand, casual sex is Lance’s norm. Initially, Abby poses a challenge. However, Lance finds himself wanting to spend more time with her, go on dates, the whole deal. He knows he’s leaving in a few weeks but there's something about this girl that makes him want to wipe away that serious look she constantly uses as armor, dig deeper and find out who she really is. Much to his surprise, Lance is beginning to develop feelings for Abby.

Summer Fling will melt your heart. It will also get your pulse pounding. It’s a charming page-turner that not only kept me riveted, it had me invested in Lance and Abby’s lives. As they work their way through real life obligations versus their desire for each other, I felt it all. I love that their romance is slow to build. It’s so true to character for Abby, and it’s fantastic to see Lance care enough to honor and respect her feelings. Abby’s and Lance’s roommates add humor and fun with their observations and advice. Summer Fling is a beautifully written, from-the-heart novel loaded with emotion, great dialogue, humor, and sizzle. I highly recommend you get to know Jerica MacMillan’s work!

Quick read -- pegged as a sports-related romance but the guy wasn't even on the team since he had already graduated. Of course, same old story of a guy who's the campus hottie, dates a girl once and done until he meets a mysterious little struggling nerd who sets his heart on fire. Nothing different or unique to catch my attention or keep me interested. I finished it - but won't go back for more of this series.

4.5 Heart melting stars

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

Having never read a book by Jerica Macmillan, I didn't quite know what to expect. Now that I have read Summer Fling, I am looking forward to reading Rebound Therapy and Cure For A Bad Day. Jerica knows how to deliver the perfect combination of sweet and steamy to melt your heart and certain unmentionables. I fell in love with not only Lance and Abby but their roommates Chris, Matt, and Megan. I formed attachments with all of them and cannot wait to see if they are featured in future books in the Players of Marycliff University. There is no better feeling than reading a new book and discovering a love for a new author.

Lance Kane is a football god from Texas wrapped in southern charm and a ripped body. He has a reputation for being a player and never lasting past the second date. That is until Abby crashes into him at a party dousing both of them with a drink and changes his whole world. Now he finds that he wants Abby to be a part of his life for longer than two dates. If only he wasn't expected to come back home after the summer and take over the family business. My heart immediately went out to Lance and his frustration of finding the perfect girl and having to leave to fulfill family obligations. He is oh so sexy with his good looks and unfailing chivalry and easy to fall for.

Abby is wary from being abandoned in her past and is not looking for any type of relationship. After the drink mishap with Lance, she finds herself trying to stop all of his advances. She has enough to deal with in her life and wants to protect herself from being hurt by Lance since she knows he is leaving soon anyways. If only she could resist his sex appeal and his charisma and protect her heart. Reading the hurt that Abby went through in her past was heart wrenching and I absolutely loved Lance breaking down her defenses and stealing her heart.

Jerica brings us tender affection, raw chemistry, and a budding love that is hard for a reader to resist. She captures fun, heart and enough heat to start this new series off with a bang. I highly recommend if you are looking for something hot and sweet to entertain with amazing characters and a heart gripping story line. For lovers of new adult romance, Summer Fling should be on your to be read list.

This is a hot, sweet tension filled college romance. Abby is a quiet stay at home kind of girl who meets Lance by chance at a party that she doesn't even want to go to. Lance just graduated and is partying it up before he heads home to work for his families shop. He isn't a two or three date kind of man - he's more of a hit it and quit it kind of guy.

Abby, however, changes something about him. The only problem is they both have their own obligations that they have committed too, but they can't seem to forget about each other. Jerica made this book very relatable to real like and that is hard to do. It kept my interest and made me want to know more. A great read and I cannot wait to read more of Jerica!!

So, yeah, I liked this more than I thought I would. Not sure why I hesitated, but I did. However, I'm really glad I gave this a listen.

I enjoyed the story of Lance and Abby. In many ways it's your typical "player finds the one and loses his player ways" kind of book. In other ways, it isn't that at all. You never see Lance as a player. You hear about it, but you never witness it. The only girl you see him with is Abby. I love that about this. And really, she has more issues than he does.

Quick listen and as usual Tor Thom and Charley Ongel are fabulous. They're one of the few narrating duos I absolutely love listening to. I seek out there work and am never disappointed.

Grab Summer Fling if you're looking for a quick, light read. I think you'll enjoy it.

I really liked the relationship between Lance and Abby. They were really sweet <3
There were times when I would get stressed over Abby's behavior. I hated that she couldn't accept the fact that Lance just cared for her. And his attitude wasn't the best at times, acting bossy and not taking "no" for an answer.
Also, the story takes weird "jumps" in time. Like, they just met, they have a date, they spend the night together, then BUM! They have been together for like a month. I'm sorry, but nothing really happened in a freaking month?

DNF @ 48%
This one started off ok but the story being told from both their points of view at the same time gave me a headache.
Abby fried my brain with her constant questions about why lance was interested in her and the story seemed to drag on a hell of a lot. Sadly once I lose interest a little it always ends in a DNF

Avoiding the unavoidable...
Being abandoned by all the men in her life, Abby finds it hard to commit in a meaningful relationship. Meeting Lance, who will be leaving by the end of the summer, she figures she may as well enjoy the "Summer Fling" for as long as it lasts. Unfortunately neither had planned on investing more and yet that little sneaky cupid pierced their hearts leaving them totally in love but with an expiration date. A quick, enjoyable read of a sweet college young adult romance. 4 Affectionate Stars for this "Summer Fling".

The book was free from kindle unlimited. I've enjoyed college themed romances in the past and thought I'd give this one a try. While it wasn't horrible, it was a little slow and boring at times. I really didn't like the main female character, Abby. She was just annoying to me. Lance was fine, but yeah I just never really felt that the two main characters really had a spark to begin with.

I don't plan on finishing this series.

Summer Fling is a sweet and steamy college romance that I thought was very refreshing and fun to read. I felt like I was living vicariously through the characters dealing with new relationships and awkward situations often found at college parties. This book has the angst and confusion with the gray-area relationship status of "are we, or aren't we?" that we all love to have in a YA or NA romance. I love a good angsty novel!
Abby is a college student having just finished her sophomore year. She is an introvert. She likes to keep to herself. She is snarky and doesn't try to fit in with the stereotypical party crowd. She holds a lot of responsibility between working to keep up on paying rent and caring for her mother who lives 45 minutes away and has a lot of needs. Her father has always been gone, and her brother has also left her and her mother after coming of age. Abby is not one to let loose or take risks.
Lance is a new college graduate. He still lives with his college roommates while attending his internship. He is originally from out of state and is oozing with manners and southern charm. He has a notorious reputation for cycling through the ladies, never dating one more than once or twice. He may appear to be a womanizer, but he is always polite and treats women in his company with respect. When Lance meets Abby, there is something different about her that draws him to her. Her snippy, put-off attitude surprises him and throws him off center, but it's somehow endearing to him.
Their meet-cute happens at a college party that Abby's boisterous roommate, Megan, had dragged her to unwillingly. She didn't want to be there to begin with so she was already annoyed and tired of sitting in the corner when her drink spilled on her new sandals. As she made her way to the sink to clean up, she was bumped again and spilled the entire drink all over herself and the hot guy in front of her, Lance. Even more irritated, she attempts to dry off and get the sticky soda off of herself while Lance laughs and tries to keep the mood light and start up small talk. Abby is not having it and completely deflects him and heads for the door. Lance follows after her and offers her a ride home and so the pursuit begins...
I really loved this story. The characters both bring their own problems into the mix. Lance has to move to his home state after his internship ends and Abby has to finish college and remain a constant support for her mother. Abandonment issues, learning how to navigate a relationship, keeping attachment and emotions at bay, and convincing themselves they are just having fun for the summer is quite a recipe for the feels! I hope you enjoy this sweet romance as much as I did... Oh! I should mention, there are also some deliciously steamy scenes in the mix too! This couple is quite adorable, but they also know how to turn up the heat!

Summer Fling (Players of Marycliff University Book 1) by Jerica MacMillan is a hot, sexy college sports romance story. This story will show you what happens when two people opposite of each other can be attracted to each other. This story is fun, hot, sexy and has lots of romance that will leave you wanting for more. This is my first story by this author and I enjoyed her writing style and her ability to just plain make the story fun to read. The characters are hot and steamy. They will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions. It was great to see how these characters were able to grow through out this story, it makes them more enjoyable. They will pull you into their world and make you feel like you are right there with them. I highly recommend you read this story as you won't want to miss this opposites attract story!

This is the story of Abby and Lance. They grew up complete opposites, on different sides of the tracks you might say. Lance is in line to work for his family business after summer. Abby is about to start her junior year but her struggles with her family leaves her unsure what do after she graduates. When one night changes everything for Abby, what will she do? She doesn't trust men as they just come and go without heart. Lance has been known to be just that kind of guy. Will she ever learn to trust him? Will he give up his ways for her? Abby is strong but yet she is broken from previous relationships if you can call them that. She seems to be a little confused on why Lance wants to be with someone like her. In the beginning she has low self esteem but it is great to see her character grow into what she was at the end. Lance has a determination and it was great seeing a different side then just the jock side of him. He seemed to be different with her. I think they had great chemistry together and they kept me hoping they get their HEA. What will happen when summer is over? Was it just a summer fling? You will have to read to find out!

If you want just a fun, sweet NA read, this is it in Spades! Abby is a young lady in college and her roommate drags her out to a party one night. Things go from bad to worse at the party for Abby. Enter Lance, the young man standing at the sink in the kitchen Abby is trying to get to. What happened that caused her to have need of the sink? When she gets there and gets Lance's attention so that she can get into the sink is when things really go from bad to worse. What exactly happens and Abby's and Lance's reactions to the incident are fun to read. Watching the interplay between these two as the book goes on only made me smile more as I went. I could hear Abby's snarky remarks to Lance in my head. I sighed wistfully, wishing that I had ever had a man in my life that treated me in the way Lance is treating Abby throughout the book, as a gentleman. Watching them disagree on things is so fun. Especially when it comes to 'was it a date or not'? Why suddenly do I think Abby's roommate Megan is that girl that we've all had one of in our lives, ladies, that wants to know EVERY LITTLE DETAIL of a situation to live vicariously through you, even though she has her own life to worry about? When do things change between Abby and Lance? How do they change? What is the catalyst that causes the change? This was one of the sweetest books I've read. I recommend it just for the new adult romance that it provides of the young couple. Have some tissues handy, you will need them.

Abby, closed off and melancholy, meets hunky Lance at a party. He's cheerful and outgoing, but also has a reputation of never dating a woman twice. But something about her is attractive to him, and he pursues her, despite her prickliness. More, she lets him. They can't help but be together.

But in addition to her introverted nature, she's got family obligations that have kept her closed off. He has to return home at the end of the summer, to satisfy his own familial obligations. So they want to be together, but neither one of them can fully let themselves be with each other.

Let the delicious, heart-aching romantic tension begin.

Jerica MacMillan has a real talent for both the sweet and the hot. Her sweet scenes -- and I would characterize this book as a sweet book -- are tinged with a plaintive edge because of Abby's hesitance and Lance's cut off date. It is, after all, a summer fling, and the very name of the book lends the book a certain necessary conflict.

Her hot scenes, though. Watch out. So good.

Well-written, this is a great new adult romance read by a new author. Check it out!

Abby struggles, looking after her mother and with everyone in her life leaving her. By chance she meets Lance at a college party and he gives her a lift home and the attraction is obvious between them. Abby finds out that Lance is a player and hesitates to date him, although Lance is persistent as Abby has him feeling things he has never felt before.
The only thing that is between the two is that Lance has to leave at the end of the summer, Abby convinces herself that she can just do a summer fling, until her feelings get in the way. When reality sets in Abby tries to push Lance away, both are devastated at the end of the summer when Lance leaves. Love how the book ended with both Lance and Abby’s friends and family helping them. Will definitely be reading more in the series.

So in the first 10 pages the h gets into a car with the H she bumped into at a frat party. She doesn't know him and after having only spoken maybe 30 words to one another. She doesnt no his last name. No one knows she is with him. But and I quote "while he acted flirtatios and cocky, she didnt get a bad feeling about him." She just got into a car with a complete stranger after literally 2 minutes of conversation. I don't need to read more to no h is a moron.

I loved this story so much!!! The characters were likable with just the right amount of flaws/conflict and the writing was solid. I loved Summer Fling. It was not the first book I've read by Jerica but I loved it just as I loved the other books I read before it. It evokes real feeling when reading Abby and Lance's story. It's something that can absolutely be related too which makes it that much better for readers. I would most certainly recommend this book to anyone!

Anyway, I still think this book is 5-star freaking great. And I'm super excited to start reading Convenient Fall now and see how Megan's and Chris's story plays out.

REVIEW
Summer Fling was the first book I read by Jerica MacMillan, and it certainly made me want to read more of her books. I read her book Rebound Therapy a couple of months ago, and I probably will read it again, and her short story Cure for a Bad Day is what I'm going to read after I've finished reading the ARC of Convenient Fall. I recommend you read Summer Fling (and Jerica MacMillan's other books) if you like sweet books with some sweet-hot sex scenes thrown into the mix.

He liked girls that bantered. That were smart and funny as well as pretty. That didn't just try to trade on their looks. Girls like Abby.

In Summer Fling, we get to meet Abby. She's sassy as fuck, closed off, and a no-nonsense kind of girl. At a party (one that her best friend, Megan, has forced her to come to), she meets Lance.

He probably thought he was charming. He wasn't wrong.

Lance is sexy and outgoing, and according to the rumors, he doesn't go on a date with a girl more than twice. And the rumors aren't wrong this time. Abby, aware of these rumors, doesn't want to start anything with him since she doesn't do casual sex. And on top of his player ways, he is going home to Texas at the end of the summer, and Abby has both school and family that make her need to stay where she are. But despite all this, neither of them can stay away from the other, so they don't. But this thing between them is just going to be a summer fling.

He wanted to devour her. He wanted to feel her tongue sliding against his, and get her to make those little breathless sounds again when he bit her ear and kissed the delicate skin just below it. He wanted to hear her gasp as he rasped his teeth against the hardened points of her nipples before soothing them with his lips and his tongue. He wanted to taste her everywhere.

The character I liked the most was Abby. She was sassy and didn't put up with any bullshit—from anyone.

"How about you get some clothes and stuff together and we can go back to my place."
Abby's eyes snapped back to his. "What? Why?"
He gestured to her bed. "Sweetheart, we're not both going to fit on that. Hell, I'm not sure I could fit on I by myself."
She crossed her arms again. Uh oh. "I don't remember inviting you to get in my bed anyway, so I'm not sure why it matters that you wouldn't fit."

I also liked that she was so caring and sweet, and the way she took care of her mother was wonderful. And I guess you could say that she developed during the book, much thanks to Lance but also thanks to Megan, and I liked to see her development from very closed off to less closed off.

"I'd like to kiss you now, Abby."
She swallowed again. "Okay."

Lance was also a great character. His outgoing personality was very different from Abby's, and I think that was good for Abby. In my opinion, that also was what helped Abby develop into a more outgoing person. Not as outgoing as Lance but more than she was before she met him. Other things I liked with Lance was that he was tender and sweet—and sexy.

"Abby, are you wearing underwear?"
She liked her lips and nodded. "A thong." Her husky whisper matched his.
"Can I see?"

Megan was another character I liked. I look forward to seeing more of her in Convenient Fall. Even though Megan was more of an extrovert and Abby more of an introvert, the two of them fit so perfectly together as friends. And I think Megan was really good for Abby since she pushed her and tried to get her to be a little less closed off. Megan was also super funny. Especially when she was hungover.

"Get me a blanket. I'm cold."
Abby stepped over to her bed and yanked the comforter out from under Megan and put it over her. "Why don't you wear more than shorts and a tank top since you always get cold when you have a hangover?"
"We're not here to discuss my wardrobe choices. Or my hangover technics." Megan pulled the comforter up to her chin and closed her eyes, humming her pleasure. "I love your comforter."

So, now we've got to talk about the sex. The sex scenes got a 5 out of 5 from me. That's because they were sweet and hot at the same time, and the plot never was the second most important thing. I'd say the sex scenes just completed the plot and sort of brought the story forward. And made me swoon and, well, a little hot and bothered from time to time.

"My God, Abby. You're still so wet."
He slid a finger inside her, then joined it with a second. "You want me to take care of you, don't you, Abby?"

Jerica MacMillan's writing style made this book an enjoyable read. The book was sweet, sexy, and heart-melting. This book even manage to make me cry a little (way more this time than the first time I read it). Okay, I am a cry baby and cry because of a lot of things, but not all books can make me cry, and as weird as it might sound, I like to cry (a little) when I read…

He entered her in one smooth stroke. "You feel so good," he whispered against her ear. She lifted her hips to meet him, then wrapped her legs around his waist.
"Oh, God. I can't— I want to, but— You feel too good, Abby. I can't hold back."

Do I recommend this book? Yes.

Summer Fling (Players of Marycliff University Book 1)
By: Jerica MacMillan
5 out of 5 stars

The story Summer Fling (Players of Marycliff University Book 1) by Jerica MacMillan is a new adult/romance book. They both knew that their time together would end. They knew that they would be going their separate ways. They were having a “Summer Fling.” Somewhere along the way, their hearts got involved. What will happen when they have to say good bye? This is a wonderful romance story to start off this series. I read one of the later books in the series and loved it so much I just had to go back and start at the beginning. This book centers around the characters of Lance and Abby. They meet one night at a party. Lance is intrigued by Abby, asks her to go out with him that night and keeps asking her out. He normally just moves on to the next girl. He finds that he can’t move on from Abby. Abby is more of a stay at home type of person. Her life experiences have taught her to guard her heart and not get attached. She has told herself that she will just be having fun with Lance, no commitment, and be able to have good memories. No problem, right? These two couldn’t be more different. It is their differences and the way that they interact with each other that kept me reading. Another reason that I liked this book is how Abby and the other characters would interact. They would have conversations that made me laugh out loud. I also found my eyes getting misty at parts and I would suggest having a few tissues around. The author has created an amazing story with characters that I found myself caring about. Will Lance and Abby find a happy ending? Read this book to find out! This story does have some steamy love scenes. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Summer Fling by Jerica MacMillan is book 1 of the Players of Marycliff University series and can be read as a standalone.

“And that smile was enough to turn any girl on, which was why she kept being snarky at him whenever he flashed it at her. She didn’t normally react to guys like she did to him.” - Abby

Abby wasn't like any girl Lance had shown an interest in before and I think having to work to gain her trust and get close gave him the opportunity to get to know her better; this isn't something he'd ever really done with a girl before and getting to actually know her, made him want to hang around and be in her life. Lance’s persistence and caring nature towards Abby helped to show her that not all guys are the same and that there are some good ones out there who will stay around and give you the love you need. Abby and Lance are a couple who you will find yourself falling in love with and hoping they last longer than just the summer. You can see that they're destined to be together and need what each other brings to the relationship. I liked how they challenged each other, which allowed them to grow closer and become more than just a casual fling.

This is the second book I've read by Jerica MacMillan and I loved it just as much as False Assumptions, book 6 of this series. I love that each book of the series seems to deal with different subjects and isn't just a repeat of the same plots again and again like some series can be. I find Jerica MacMillan’s books enjoyable to read as they flow effortlessly and allow me to become involved in what's happening rather than trying to figure out the characters or complicated storylines. I love Jerica MacMillan’s writing style and will definitely be keeping up to date with the rest of this series.

I went into reading Summer Fling totally blind and not knowing quite what to expect.I love nothing more that a crazy good young adult/first time love story, and I could not have asked for a better story. Who doesn't love that spine tingling feeling a first love creates. Summer Fling provided all those feelings and more. This is the first book I have read by Jerica MacMillan, and my goodness, what a thrill it was.

Lance was the most charismatic character I have read for ages. He just oozed that special something that just stood out for me. He liked to share himself around with the ladies, and they were not too upset about that fact. His future seems mapped out for him, and with plans to return to run the family business, he was not expecting everything that was Abby. Abby is unlke anyone he has met before, and he finds that he wants to spend more and more time with her. A totally new feeling for him.

Abby has her guard up and does not trust Lance. At all. She cannot deny the attraction between them , but she has too much going on in her life to take Lance and his advances very seriously. They have many times of tension and anxiety, but this young love was not to be stopped.

Jerica MacMillan is an incredibly talented author that really knows how to spin a beautiful love story. I experienced many feelings and battled the highs ad lows along with the characters. Lance, Abby and their group of friends were a real treat to read about. I am slightly addicted to The Players of Marycliff University series, and cannot wait to sink my teeth into book two. 5 stars

Summer Fling (Players of Marycliff University #1)
By Jerica MacMillan
5 Stars

Summer Fling by Jerica MacMillan is a five star read and is part of an amazing series. I have read others in this series, and finally decided to go back to the beginning. This story did not disappoint. Abby and Lance are an amazing couple and the story of their relationship just flowed.

Abby had to grow up quickly basically being a parent to her parent but now she is at college and her roommate Megan wants her to get out and have fun, but it’s hard to when you are used to being the responsible one. Abby is dragged to yet another college party with a bunch of drunks, and of course a drunken guy spills drink all over her. Trying to get to the sink she runs into Lance, the campus playboy. He has graduated but as a former football player he is still very popular with the girls. He is shocked that this beautiful girl doesn’t know who he is or even care. That makes her very intriguing and Lance wants to get her to change her mind. But, Abby doesn’t make things easy for him and he finds that he really want to get to know her and spend time with her.

So what happen when the player wants to be taken serious? What happens when real life comes to call and you have to make grown up decisions?

This author does an amazing job of weaving a story with humor, romance, and a little bit of conflict. I highly recommend this story and the entire series.

Ok, so I know I’m like five years late coming to the story, and this is my first time reading a Jerica MacMillan book. Her writing style is notably different from many of the other online authors I have been introduced to via Kindle Unlimited. Her descriptions are more detailed, word choices are more varied, and her storyline unfolds at a different pace (in a good way) from many other romance stories I have read.
Now, having said that, I liked Lance and Abby‘s story for the most part. I am all for an underdog story where the popular athletic guy ends up with a non-typical girl. Lance’s past ‘player’ ways were referenced, but we never saw him actively in that role during the story. That was all pre-Abby; however, it does serve to give Abby many misgivings about their budding relationship and Lance’s continued interest in her. BUT, her continued suspicions and mistrust of Lance despite him giving her no reason to do so wore on me after a while. He was giving, kind, and reassuring in every possible way, yet she still held onto her misgivings. Lance’s patience was almost endless and I feel like most characters with his background would have given up. As the reader, it made me feel like they would be the couple that you would find out 10 years later had called it quits because he finally got tired of having to try so doggone hard and threw in the towel. Fortunately for this story, that’s not how it ends. They find a way to overcome their differences and be together.
