American Mail order brides of the West, historically inspired clean and wholesome short story romance.

FIRST FULL NOVEL LENGTH!

From the Bestselling Author Kat Carson!

San Francisco, California, 1861. Springtime.

(Based on the true story of Mary Ellen Pleasant)

This inspirational historical Wild West Romance series is about strong women on their quest to turn around their downtrodden situation, their triumphs of discovering real men and true love in the mid-and late 19th-century.

Mary Pleasant is the daughter of a slave family living in Monroe, Georgia. Everyone has been talking about the emancipation of the slaves, but when freedom finally comes, there is a lot of uncertainty about what the future holds. All that Mary knows for sure is that she is going to go West and she is determined to find a way to get there. After answering a "Brides Wanted" advertisement on the church notice board, Mary finds herself saying goodbye to her family, perhaps forever and boarding a train with four other young brides headed for an unknown future in San Francisco. Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell Mary that her husband-to-be, John Smart, is a white man. But Mary knows that faith and courage will see her through, and she is determined to be a success in this town.

John Smart is a handsome and successful businessman. Why has he taken a colored girl for a wife?

Can Mary's faith carry her through when she is accused of murder after a terrible accident?

Mary is a strong and determined girl. What happens when she finds the man who truly loves her?

Follow Mary and her friends on her story of heartbreak and happiness, of highs and lows, and of success and failure as she makes a new life for herself in San Francisco. Discover how she faces jealousy and discrimination but continues to hold her head high and never loses sight of her dreams. Keep step with Mary as she travels from the slave plantations of Georgia to the "Mystery House" and the biggest mansion that San Francisco has ever seen, finding true love and happiness along the way.

....“a story of hope, fear, romance, suspense and true love.”....

While this book is part of a romance series, it can definitely be read as a standalone book.

Mary, thus being partly true story not all facts are true in the book.
Said that she was a mail order bride during the civil war. This book says she took a train to San Francisco to Wed a man named Smart. Upon arrival she learned that Mr Smart was a wealthy white businessman man involved in shipping. Mary weds the man and they live in the same home until he takes a tumble to his death. Of course because she was a woman of colour his death was looked into, but was found that it was an accident.
He leaves her everything. She then decided that she would open a restaurant. She and the Forman of the shipping company Mr Brown form a relationship.
She married him.

But the real story, Mary Ellen Pleasant fled through the Underground Railroad. The love of her life was Thomas Bell. To this day there are memorial places with her name on them. Also six eucalyptus trees planted in a row. I commend Mary for helping as many people as she did. Also sorry if I spoiled the story. But I did leave quite a bit out.

One of the worst mail order bride books to have ever been made. Like it had soooo much potential to be a sweet, realistic romance but it turned into a mail order bride crime thriller (? Idek what the author was intending it was like the plot and genre was all lost). The second romance happened way too quickly and out of nowhere and then the book just seemed to drag on. At one point I was wondering why it wasn’t ending? There wasn’t a storyline to this. What was even the whole point of this book? Liiiike, it would have been perfect if it was a slow burn romance between John and Mary but instead the author tried to make it more complicated by killing him off? What did that achieve? I don’t know but I do know that it made me completely dissatisfied.

Just Don't!!!

This book is so horrible and disconnected with reality I don't know where to begin!!!! I guess where the author said " I have a good master" . I should have known this was some BS. This book was like a white person version of what slavery was like if they did not know nothing about it.This is a waters down project of a book that some one was forced to write. This book was so horrible it felt like the author was forced to write it. Just don't waste your time on this book. I don't even know this author but they lost ALL my RESPECT!!!!

Interesting premise

Good , wholesome story, but doesn't totally ring true. The slaves from Georgia don't really sound like they're from the plantation, even if they've been educated. The time lines seem a little blurred with some things taking a longer time and others happening so quickly.

Mary ( Mail Oder Brides of the West Series Book 1)

I enjoyed reading this book about Mary going out West to find a better Future. Going out West was hard enough for women and Mary was Black it was even harder. It seems in every life time there are prejudice people. It's nice to know not everyone was prejudiced.. Great Book..

Great book! Clean story

How refreshing to find such a well written book that is 'clean'. This is such an interesting and well put together story. The characters are presented wonderfully, and the situations are so believable. I plan to read more books by this very talented author very soon. I actually purchased several of her books before I wrote this review.

I Was Pleasantly Surprised

I've always passed books of this subject matter by because I didn't think I would like them. But I was proven wrong, I enjoyed this book very much and found it hard to quit reading once I started.
