I thoroughly enjoyed this book, this probably doesn’t sound right, but it is a frank and honest story about a boy growing up amongst drugs, and the impact it had on him from about the age of 4 onwards. The story follows him and his life living with his father, who dealt drugs and who was, himself, addicted to them. A somewhat sad and profound story, one of which could be assumed to be echoed across the country in light of the high amount of drug dealers and users in society, along with those already incarcerated. My background and job gives me probably a better insight into this than most, but it revealed to me how young children can be introduced to the dangers and addictions of drugs and violence at a very young age, by the need of their parents to make money, vast amounts of money and indeed the notoriety of their wealth and how they came about it, which lays the foundations for generations to come. An enjoyable but sad insight into how and why children end up with their lives of drugs, both using and dealing, and how their lives could be turned around, with a little help, consideration, care but most of all, love. A truly inspiring read.
Such an honest account of his life and upbringing and that he was bought up in such an environment and was able to overcome it. I found myself cheering him on as he entered into his 'wake up' call phase and started on the path to set himself straight. I was sad to learn that his life was actually more violent then he revealed in the book and made it all the more a sweeter victory to see him sort himself out.
Enjoy Caspar's rollercoaster ride through life. The impact his parents' lifestyle had on his life, the exposure to criminal elements, drugs, booze and sex that molded his outlook on life from a very early age. His struggles and challenges growing up in such a tumultuous environment, and his ability to surmount the foundation laid out by his family. Inspirational. Once again proving that human beings can succeed, given a good dose of motivation and perseverance.
A heart breakingly moving, traumatic and inspiring story illustrating how the strength and determination an individual can help them change their life and achieve their full potential. Highly recommended.
It is amazing this kid survived and is alive today after the upbringing he had with his father, but it has a happy ending where he gets off drugs and everything turns out good. But the life this kid had with his father is something to read.
I found this to be a very interesting read.I can't believe Caspar had to deal with such parents. We all understand peer group pressure from your friends but when it comes from your dad thats another thing. Some people really don't deserve to have children.
