JESSICA: For far too long, I did what everyone wanted, expected of me, and even demanded. I was nothing more than a pawn in their malicious games; used to further their careers, their interests, their desires. You can't change your family, but you can decide not to pursue unrequited love. With my heart and soul broken, I gave up and walked away from him – and the lifestyle I loved. Now, years later, fate has thrown him back into my life. He's too addictive to refuse, too charming to ignore. He's everything I need, want and desire. But he didn't want me back then, and now, he's asking for my forgiveness and my submission.
MARCUS: I've made mistakes before, but then again, who hasn't? My biggest mistake was letting her give up her membership at Club Vice and walk out of my life. Now I'm hell-bent on making amends and taking back what I hadn't realized I needed. Time has passed and she has been left scarred and vulnerable. It will take time, love, trust and understanding to make things right, to help her heal. But I will do everything in my power to make that happen. And this time, I'm not relaxing my grip on her. She will be mine.
Publisher's Note: While this book features characters from Mindy's popular Bound To Him series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone. This story contains explicit sexual scenes, including anal, and elements of BDSM, as well as spanking. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.
This is a spin-off from the Bound to Him series; this book is listed as full standalone, but honestly you would need to read the previous to series to follow this book a bit. Right from the prologue I felt like I was missing vital information, who is Chandler? Who is Kierra? Who is Ava? What is the big scandal they are trying to fix? It seems the author assumed we either already know what is going on or wouldn’t care too much and just focus on Marcus and Jessica.
Also, since I didn’t read the Bound to Him series I was completely lost about anything that wasn’t explicitly stated in this book. So we find out Chandler marries Kierra, but Jessica says Kierra stole Derrick’s heart the moment he laid eyes on her; was that a typo did she mean Chandler? We never get a full explanation on the Ava situation, apparently she was trying to blackmail Chandler on what we don’t know; I believe the reason it is mentioned in this book is because Marcus was the one who sent Ava to Chandler and Jessica is to be their lawyer for a situation adjacent to his problem.
The book started off real strong with Jessica, forfeiting her membership to Marcus‘s club, because she is in love with him, and he refuses to acknowledge her feelings and claim her. Marcus’ reasons for this is that Jessica is a ball-busting lawyer, who is only submissive in the club and dominant everywhere else in her life and he wants a submissive in all aspects of their life. This made me not like Marcus at first because you may have your preferences, that is not the problem, it is how he handles it going forward. He basically says he can’t have a relationship and after he loses Jessica he takes up a relationship with Nicola, the little sister of his best friend from back home. The same relationship Jessica was asking for that he said he couldn’t handle, he gave it to this girl and he waits two years to win back Jessica.
Another thing that made me dislike him, is that when he decides to win back Jessica two years later, he does not stop his relationship with Nicola right away. After he tells Derrick that he wants Jessica back and he starts making active attempts to contact her and let her know his intentions, he goes home and does a scene and fucks Nicola.
Now let’s switch to Jessica, right from the start I loved her she was strong, determined and everything a great lawyer needs to be. Also in the two years from the prologue to chapter 1, there seems to have been some event that had taken place again, I think you need to read the Bound to Him series to fully get the understanding of what happened in the resort. Essentially, Jessica is now dating Dean, a lawyer in her family’s firm, who she apparently cheated on at the resort with her friend, Storm (female). It seems at the time Dean did not care at all about the cheating. According to Jessica he did not have a reaction. I did find it a bit hypocritical of Jessica to be angry at Dean for cheating when she did cheat on him, but it must be stated I do NOT like Dean at all.
It gets a little weird after while when we start learning about Jessica‘s past again I think if you read the previous series, you know more about Marcus and Jessica because it’s kind of assumed that we know Jessica‘s history. Jessica comes from a very emotionally abusive family and it never stopped. The only relief she used to get from her family was from the club, and when she stopped going to the club because of her feelings for Marcus, she lost another piece of herself.
So basically, Marcus starts his campaign to win back Jessica who at first is against him being in her life, but as her family starts acting more erratic and crazy she feels stuck. Marcus is just trying to prove that he does love her and wants her in his life the same way she wanted to be with him in the past. This is where awesome Jessica turns into a confusing person we don’t know. She allows herself to be physically and emotionally abused by both her parents and Dean, who turns out to be a horrible human being. What really disappointed me was that Jessica has many opportunities to escape, and she chooses to stay and be abused, and it takes Marcus actively pulling her from the situation and saving her because she could not save herself nor did she even try.
Once Marcus saves her from the situation it’s basically like nothing ever happened with her family, they just melt away into the background. We never hear about her family again in the book after he takes her out of the engagement party; for people who were actively abusing her, Dean seemed to be one step away from raping her and her parents did not care as long as she followed the rules, it’s like they don’t exist. They also don’t get any type of punishment they get away with everything, Dean gets to keep the shares in her family firm and her parents do whatever they were doing.
If we go back to Marcus for a second, while all this back-and-forth is going on, Marcus and Jessica were trying to date. However, when her family started taking over her life, she broke it off with him for about six months, but he never stopped dating Nicola, like he told Nicola in the beginning it was over, but it’s never exactly clearly stated in the book if he stopped fucking her. Before they took their six months break, Marcus had to go home due to his grandfather dying and he takes Nicola with him and they share a hotel room and a bed but no sex happened, however, Nicola was trying to have sex with him, and was naked in front of him and was touching on him. Now if I’m dating someone and we already made our intentions clear that we want to be together, you sharing a room with another woman, another bed and seeing her naked and her trying to fuck you, is not acceptable.
Marcus made his intentions clear and was still fucking Nicola for perhaps maybe the whole book until he pulled Jessica out of her engagement party. After Marcus saves Jessica it’s like everything that kept them apart no longer existed or ever happened in the second half of the book and now it’s happily ever after; it just didn’t vibe for me.
For me, it was like this book was all over the place, you could see the chemistry between them, but if you really think about it, it was like in pockets. They did not actually have like a relationship they went from being coworkers to Jessica revealing her feelings to Marcus denying his feelings to them not speaking for two years to them trying to date to events taking place that were very traumatic to them being married. Also, Jessica went from being a strong and determined woman to someone who allowed insignificant people to control her in very harsh ways so quickly.
Don’t even get me started on Nicola, who was an absolute bitch to Jessica whenever possible. The thing that annoyed me most was that Nicola was never reprimanded for lying and schemes that hurt Jessica and her relationship with Marcus. The only person who seemed to be punished (and not in the fun way) was Jessica.
The next book is on Adam, unfortunately, I don’t think he’s going to be staying with Storm considering the heroine’s name is Sadie in the book.

Forgiving Marcus by Mindy Taylor Mysterious Masters of Club Vice: Book 1
This is the first book by Mindy that I have read and was looking forward to reading a new author. I will tell you I was not disappointed in this book. The story line kept me engaged with D/s scenes that was the perfect mix of sexy, dominating and loving. This first installment is the story of Marcus and Jessica.
Jessica is a lawyer and partner in her family’s law firm. We meet Jessica when she decides to leave the submissive life style at Club Vice in Las Vegas to find herself and a life with a more permanent end. We learn she played the Club submissive and didn’t have a Master to call her own. She does have a secret want to become Marcus’ full-time submissive.
Meet Marcus, an owner of Club Vice and Master. We learn that he doesn’t participate at the club, except for Sunday’s demonstration, and he is a very private person. He is a businessman and usually gets what he wants.
Once Jessica turns in her club membership she moves on with life. She starts to date a lawyer in the firm, Dean that in my opinion has his sights set on becoming a partner in the firm. The only way for that to happen is to become part of the family and being that Jessica is an only child Dean sets his sights. Her parents have been worried about the family image all of Jessica’s life and have not been very kind to her over the years.
I will not be going into any more detail than that. This book as a complex set of characters that require the reader to be invested in the book. If you like the D/s dynamic with love, lust and trust then this book is for you. Believe me this book left me fanning myself. I highly recommend this book and hope there are going to be others in this series.
A good writer who needs better ideas. She has basic good material but I don't like how she defined her characters. Jessica, her h, is supposed to be strong. confident and in control. That is not who the author let's live throughout her story. She, Jessica, is verbally and cruelly abused by her parents and physically and verbally abused by her boyfriend who was chosen by her parents and she let's them do it. She is a very successful attorney who in one place, where there is a decision to be made by other characters, just walks in and announces that she is the best person to handle the job and the other applicant stands up and leaves! She's forceful enough to handle a strong competitor but can't manage the most basic components of her life. Any person can be abused and find it difficult to get away but she had myriad opportunities to walk away but made choices to stay with very questionable reasons that were weak and unbelievable for that supposed strong person. There were problems with the interactions between the H and the h also. I really had to push to get through to the end of the book and I'm sorry because there was a lot that I liked. I will probably try another book to see if there is any improvement.
Nice start of a trilogy! Jessica feeling not worthy, low self esteem. Marcus, owner of a BDSM club, afraid to start a relationship. Two lovely characters finding each other again. Jessica needs to show more backbone, stand up for yourself! And there is Marcus, helping Jessica to find herself again showing her what it is to love and be loved by a Master. Never vanilla again! Jessica finally gets what she's wanted for years but first she needs to get away from her abusive parents and finance - Marcus comes to her rescue, after he gets his head out of his a$$.
“EVERY SAINT HAS A PAST AND EVERY SINNER HAS A FUTURE” –OSCAR WILDE
What an excellent beginning to a new series that is a spin-off from the ‘Bound To Him’ series. If you have not read them, you will not be lost because enough information is shared without retelling that trilogy. The book reads as a standalone, with a great cast of characters, a bit of history, plenty of angst, some emotional baggage, and finally acceptance and resolution.
Jessica Waters seems to be a pawn in everyone’s game. She has had feelings for Marcus, but he keeps her at arms link. Her time as a club submissive at Club Vice has come to a head, and she feels used, abused, neglected and has to walk away because Marcus is never going to give her what she needs, him. Her parents expect to control her life, her career, and now whom she will marry, and she has no say. Dean and Jessica have been together for over a year, and he is aloof, cancels at the last minute their plans, and reality sinks in, she doesn’t really care for him. But Mommy has plans that include Dean, whether Jessica likes it or not.
Marcus may be an owner in Club Vice, but he never scenes in the club, is private in his relationship, and does not have a full-time sub. He has been involved with Nicola, his friend from Boston little sister, but it is nothing more than mutual gratification. He knows he made a mistake of letting Jessica walk away from Club Vice and now he wants her to be involved in the corporate paperwork for Thorne N’ Vice International.
The story starts with Jessica leaving Club Vice in October 2013 and picks up in August 2015 when Marcus is determined to get Jessica to work on the paperwork for Thorne N’ Vice. There is a lot of angst between them, mostly coming from her, she is hurt still over their lack of any relationship. The story will take us to August 2016 and the journey that Marcus and Jess will travel. Not everything will be pretty along the way, including the abuse to Jess by family and Dean before Marcus rescues her from them. The journey into the relationship of Marcus and Jess comes with honesty, sharing emotions, give and take, forgiveness, acceptance, and moving forward. “I’m a lot of things. Happy, safe, and cared for. I’m so in lust with that man, it kills me.” The story includes BDSM, breathplay, anal, oral, and bondage. It also has verbal and physical abuse, but this is not in the club scenes, but by individuals, and nonconsensual.
Wow! I loved this book. The main characters, Jessica and Marcus, share a deep love that transpires beyond the physical. Master Marcus is a Dom who is partial owner of Club Vice. He has longed for Jessica, the club submissive, for a long time but will not act on his feelings. He sees her as strong, successful, highly independent, and someone he cannot possibly provide what she needs. However, when she decides to leave Club Vice he realizes that he has not appreciated her or what he had in front of him. Jessica, a submissive, has longed for Master Marcus for years. Over time, while working at Club Vice, her self esteem has suffered. She decides to leave the lifestyle and live in a vanilla relationship. While this does not make her happy, she doesn't want any other Dom but Marcus. When he decides he wants her back all bets are off. Jessica has not had an easy time with her family and fiancée. She has been deeply hurt and abused verbally, emotionally, and physically. However, Marcus will pick her up, help her value herself again and eventually give her exactly what she has always wanted. I highly recommend this book! It is filled with relationships (good and bad), domestic abuse, honesty, sharing of deep feelings, growing and expanding of personalities, acceptance, BDSM, hot sex scenes, and a lot of love. This love story is real, deep, and draws you in with laughter, love, and tears. What a great read!! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Great beginning story to a new series that I am going to enjoy! I loved Jess and Marcus and found myself completely engrossed with their rocky relationship. I wasn’t too sure if I was going to like Marcus all that much, but as the author wove her spell around me, I found that I became more and more enamored with him. Although he definitely has flaws that caused Jessica pain, he was trying to do things to make amends – and in the end – he helped put her back together. What can I say about Jessica other than she is one of the most tortured characters I have ever read about but the author has such a gift that I found myself really loving her and routing for her to triumph over the negative factors in her life. If I have one negative about this story is that parts of it almost seemed as if there should have been a previous book giving some background. The author tantalized me with mention of events that peaked my interest and I’ll be curious to see if they are more fully explained in future books or if I’ll be left hanging. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Very good book! I really loved Jessica & Marcus. After reading a negative review where the reader complained about Jessica being whiney- And never reading this author or the previous series that this was a spin-off from- I was a little hesitant to read however I downloaded a sample and got sucked in a purchased the book before finishing the sample! So worth it! Jessica's character was not whiney.. Her past history and the issues she delt with between her parents and her feelings for Marcus gave you a more of an understanding of her character. The connection between her and Marcus was undeniable and kept me hoping for him to cross the line.. A mix of emotions, angst, and erotica heat. The story flowed well and didn't drag on.. Definitely going to read the other series now!
I thought this was a delightful read. Mindy did a fine job with character development. The book starts off with Jessica being pulled every which way and then to find a man that she loved did not return her love. She goes on the rebound and finds herself in the midst of everything that can go wrong just about does and then some. She and Marcus (the dom that does not return her love) find themselves meeting after being apart for a while. She finds that she does need Marcus as much as he needs her. Their love begins to blossom and then end is great and I won't tell you because there would be a spoiler alert. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. Sub Jessica loves Master Marcus, but you can't make someone love you back. She leaves Club Vice to go back to the vanilla life she left behind. Marcus knows he made a mistake letting her leave, but doesn't know how to get her back. Jessica's early life taught her that she is worthless. Marcus ill have his work cut out to show her how wrong she is. BDSM with sexual situations including anal.
I loved Ms. Taylor's Bound to Him series. This book was a great beginning to a spin-off series. It is a standalone book (although I suggest reading the first series just because it is good). I love book with angst and this book definitely has it. It was great to have the alternate points of view of Jessica and Marcus to see into their minds. It was a great story. Parts were sexy. Parts were tearful. Parts were touching. 5 stars! *I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
THIS BOOK WAS A GREAT READ,PLOT OF THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME AND THE CHARACTERS WERE WILL DEVELOPED. MARCUS A DOM AND JESSICA A SUB. CAN'T WAIT FOR BOOK TWO TO COME OUT, THIS IS MY FIRST BOOK FROM THIS AUTHOR, AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD FOR ANOTHER READ
