The thrilling sequel to Blackout: After the Storm.
A year has passed and Will is adapting to life as a survivor in an EMP-struck Britain.
When Will learns that someone he loves is stranded at the other side of the country, he is forced on a journey across a treacherous world filled with all kinds of foes.
But saving them isn't going to be easy. Not when there is a group waiting right outside the gates of his tight-knit community, just waiting for the perfect moment to strike...
Ryan Casey is the author of over a dozen novels and a highly successful serial. He writes gritty post-apocalyptic fiction, throwing normal people into devastating situations and exploring how they react and adapt. He has also written several detective mysteries and thrillers. Across all genres, Casey's work is renowned for its rapid pacing, unforgettably complex characters, and knockout twists.
Casey lives in the United Kingdom. He has a BA degree in English with Creative Writing from the University of Birmingham, and has been writing stories for as long as he can remember. In his spare time, he can be spotted walking his West Highland White Terrier, has a passion for cinema and television, and probably spends a little bit too much time in the pub.
Collapse, After The Storm book 2 continues the story of Will, Olivia, Keisha and the prison community when a group of cannibals attacks the camp and the horrific things they're forced to do to survive. Will is completely transformed from the apocalyptic thriller writer with a failed marriage he was when the power went out into a savage survivor. The writing is great with likeable, and detestable, characters, excellent narrative quality and clear, if exceedingly gruesome at times, and good dialogue. 5/5 stars! If you're into apocalyptic survival thrillers, especially the post-EMP variety, you will love Collapse, and the rest of After The Storm series!
I like that this EMP blast hit the UK. I love the people there but interesting to get a new setting for the apocalypse. I didn't like that Will had not kept in touch with the bit of backbone he developed in book one. Of course once you know Jack Reacher no other man can measure up. Sort of a far out premise of who the new bad guys are but I learned to live with the idea. I hope in book 3 Will can be as brave as his 8 year old daughter who by the way should be 9 by now.
Speed read "Collapse" in 3 1hr chunks. Not particularly engaging, seems that inspiration was drawn from storylines derived from "The Walking Dead" TV series, namely "Terminus " and the leader Gareth and the plight of Lori (no spoilers)
Maybe I'm naive and expect English EMP survivors would stockpile and ration Tea and plan to get the power back on.
The first book in this series was interesting enough that I immediately started on this second book.
Very disappointing. Sometimes even idiotic, in terms of character decisions.
Plot meanders, scenes and emotions are exceedingly repetitive, the lead character is a whiner supreme...until he magically turns into the human Terminator.
I started skipping paragraphs, then entire pages of repetitive inner turmoil.
Besides the cannibalism, author spends way to much time with introspective thinking and waffling from the main character and too much time explaining the conditions. Still, the story line is okay. I'll stick with it and read the next book to see if he gets back to story telling instead of psycho-analysis.
