This puts reality in her books

I really enjoyed reading these stories about the author actually staying with and being friends with the Amish of Unity. I liked having the pictures and names to put with the books, even if the stories are fiction! I knew there was a difference in these books and how they presented the Amish, now I understand why. They are not just someone’s idea of what is Amish, but actually reflect a real group of people in Unity, Maine. Now I know what the church/school looks like. The unusual museum of Joe's that appears in a different book. The stories may be fiction, but Unity is alive and real!

Revealing

What a wonderful way to research for a book! Ashley takes you inside an Amish community in Maine, as she stays with families for a week or less at a time. The kindness and caring of the families both within their family units and in their communities spills over into their treatment of an outsider
The other wonderful thing you learn is what an amazing, open, eager to help guest Ashley is. Her experience, once shared in this book, is one you won't soon forget. Highly recommended.

Ashley Learns about the Amish

I really enjoyed reading all about Ashley's adventures into the Amish world. Many of the facts I already knew having grown up with a Mennonite sister and many Amish living around the area after my marriage. But there were still lots of new ideas and a few mistaken ones, too.

Amish fora Week

Great book on the lives of the Amish. This tells of their lives and the work habits as well as their beliefs. You have done a very good job of telling how the Amish live and how they work together to make sure that everyone has the same opportunity to do well. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

Great read

Awesome portrait about Amish life. She actually did research, before writing. Lived with a family, and joined in their daily life. Not exploitated at all, got rid of stereotypes.

Both your books were ok. Being that my family lives around the Amish there is so much more you could have written about without getting personal. People who don't live around Amish want a closer look and understanding and I thought your books would have given that but didn't. I'm sorry. But they were interesting.

Amish adventures

I enjoyed reading about Ashley’s Amish adventure which was really just about Amish lives. It was very interesting as I like to read Amish fiction and see that it is not always true. Great job Ashley describing how the Amish live love and serve others.

Great insight

Thank you for the wonderful, personal account of the Amish way of life. So many books don't reflect an accurate depiction of Amish life. Thank you for doing your research. I look forward to reading your other books.

Good thuthful reading

It was good to read a Amish book that wasn't a romantic novel one that was truthful.and fair. One to look forward to. One that holds Scripture and truth. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Interesting

Amish for a week was an interesting story. The Amish in Maine were very different from what I imagined Amish life to be. I think that is because Ashley was a visitor. I think she really needed to be there for longer in length to really get a true feel for Amish life

Amazing insights!

I chose to read this as a comparison to other books reputed to be authentic Amish only to learn one lovely new fact after another. Ashley is truly the go-to Amish author in my book from here on in. Keep up the great authenticity and we'll keep reading!

Ashley did a beautiful job, giving readers an inside look at being Amish.
Thanks also to the Amish family that allowed her to be with them. We know little about them, other books have given us glimpse. Ashley gave us in depth feel of being in an Amish environment. Well done Ashley

I enjoyed reading Ashley's thoughts and experiences with the Amish. Her pictures were helpful as well. I would certainly be interested to know more about how the Amish share their faith in verbal ways in addition to their lifestyle.
