German philologist and folklorist Jakob Ludwig Karl Grimm in 1822 formulated Grimm's Law, the basis for much of modern comparative linguistics. With his brother Wilhelm Karl Grimm (1786-1859), he collected Germanic folk tales and published them as Grimm's Fairy Tales (1812-1815).

Indo-European stop consonants, represented in Germanic, underwent the regular changes that Grimm's Law describes; this law essentially states that Indo-European p shifted to Germanic f, t shifted to th, and k shifted to h. Indo-European b shifted to Germanic p, d shifted to t, and g shifted to k. Indo-European bh shifted to Germanic b, dh shifted to d, and gh shifted to g.

This jurist and mythologist also authored the monumental German Dictionary and his Deutsche Mythologie .

There isn't really much about this story that speaks to me. A man who can't do as asked, for a good year and a half, an accidentally enchanted princess and a witch. There was nothing really of substance in this story and it irks me, I wish I could have enjoyed it much more.

Jacob Grimm, alongside his brother Wilhelm, is renowned for compiling "Grimm's Fairy Tales," a collection of German folktales. This book is a captivating journey into the heart of folklore, presenting a mixture of enchanting and sometimes dark stories that have fascinated readers for generations. Grimm's work is not just a mere collection of tales; it's a profound exploration of the human condition, morals, and the cultural heritage of Germany. The stories range from the well-loved "Cinderella" and "Snow White" to the less known but equally intriguing tales. Each story is a masterpiece of fantasy, imbued with timeless themes and moral lessons, making this book a valuable treasure for both young and adult readers. Jacob Grimm's contribution through this compilation has left an indelible mark on literature and continues to inspire the imagination of readers worldwide.

The original tale is much better but also darker then the version kids see.

It is different but not that different from what you might remember from first hearing this tale as a kid.

The plot here are very good but also dark which is the mix which I personally like a lot.

The writing style here was very old and you could feel the vibe of old the Europe which was amazing for me.

This story opens with a sentiment from the queen whom I'm sure all exhausted mothers can relate to. However, her words to her tiny daughter — a wish that she would turn into a raven, fly away and never return — actually comes to pass. We never see her again so we don't see if she repents her hasty words or not. At any rate, a traveler encounters the raven (who has aged rapidly) and is told how he can set her free. This story is another example of how the protagonist doesn't succeed at first (in fact, he really screws up) but is given another chance and he finally wins.

I feel nothing for this short story. A girl is turned into a raven and then asks a man for help. That man can’t do anything right and then he marries the girl at the end after a year of her waiting for him. I’m honestly so confused on why it ended the way it did. Not one of my favorite short stories and probably won’t read it again.

As the title suggests, revolves around a Raven, well, to be exact, a woman turned into one. Yet again, the creature is a recurring theme in other books.

I found this story exceptionally well written and such a joy to read.

I think Grimm is getting more difficult to analyze story by story... so many Qs from this one but at least the man and enchanted woman end up happily ever after.

I thought that this story was boring. Also, the man did not do what he was supposed to do and still ended up marrying the king's daughter. I don't even understand why she even liked him.
