Jade #1

Seized by the Shape-Shifting Serpent

Rate this book
A young man, Tian, travels into a different universe by accident. The land is filled with danger, cruelty, and vicious intentions. It is a world of kill or be killed; a world where only the strongest can survive. The only sentient beings--- the shapeshifters, also need to rely on their animal forms to thrive.
Shifters are intelligent like humans, but their culture remains brutal and wild. They possess animal features even in human forms, and most of them still consume raw animal meat.
At first, Tian thought he was going to be eaten by the monster snake. Then he thought the snake was keeping him as a pampered pet. However, when the snake turned into a man, Tian soon knew he was wrong again.
Wait, what do you mean that I am your…. female?!
Oblivious to the true danger of the forest, Tian's desire to escape grows rapidly with the serpent's increasing affection.

Focuses of the story:
1. Love and trust development between the human and the serpent shifter.
2.Finding replacements for food and tools in a primeval forest
3.Mystical creatures and their conflicts on this fantasy land.
4.(Book 2) Guiding a struggling tribe to prosperity and spread modern knowledge.
Warning: dubious consent (rape), shapeshifting, inhuman genitalia, violent, unrequited love.

It was a struggle to adjust to the writing style at first but then i got used to it.
I really like the worldbuilding, I still find it hard to understand the lore tho, and as for our mcs I had a mixed feelings about both of them tho but I still enjoyed their story together.

I bought a bunch of books to read on a long car trip, but this was one that I was reading before I even left my house. I read a lot of translated Chinese web novels, and while this doesn't read like one, I still enjoyed the bit of crossover this novel has. Otherwise, this is a unique shifter A/o type story.

Tian, a human, has been kidnapped and escapes to find himself in another world. Without any survival skills or instincts, he ends up being taken by a serpent shifter to become his mate. There's a bit of dubious consent (rape) when the shifter "Jade" finally claims his female, but despite what should be a darker story, this was quite sweet. Jade is really innocent because he's only recently reached maturity, so all his reactions are raw and adorable. Despite the nature of serpent shifters, Jade and Tian's relationship becomes one not of captive and his captor but shifter and his female lover.

Needless to say, I finished the novel quickly and had a near tantrum when I realized the second book hasn't been released yet. 4.5 Stars simply because I enjoyed it so much.

Interesting.

I did enjoy this (enough to buy book 2) but it def had faults. The concept is quite intriguing but I found a lot of the writing not involving Tian and Jade to be rather flat, more like a list or an outline. I liked Jade but found Tian to be quite ungrateful towards him until near the end of the book. Considering how quickly Tian figured out he was on another world it took him a ridiculous amount of time to realise he should not be judging Jade by Earth standards.
Also there were quite a few typo's which I did report to Amazon.

Now now I've never read one story involving a snake/serpent shifter.......And especially not one as cute as that one (if you can overlook all the non-con issues due their different worlds and realities)
Amazing world-building!! Gorgeous cover!!
The only reason the rating is not higher it's because of some basic grammar mistakes that even I couldn't let it go.
Running to get my hands on the next one!

It was a nice quick read, the serpent's personality was milder than i expected but in a unique way. He didn't have the behavior of a socialized human being like most shifters I've read about in other books, so that was interesting. The world building was nice enough as well. It made me want to purchase the second book.

Was pretty good

Some typos but overall I like the story wish the author had done some dialogue fixing by separating into paragraphs so we know who’s talking. I feel like there could be at least 4 books with this series. Hope to read book 2 now

A good book. I especially loved Jade, his artlessness and innocence. The writing and editing could have been better but I wasn’t put off. Overall, I liked this read, though can’t say I’m interested enough to read the second book. I hope they live happily ever after.

2.5 The writing is a little wonky, but I love a good serpent romance and it had some good moments.
