MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.
Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.
Favourite books "Roald Dahl's Collection of Short Stories" Tim Burton's Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy Anything, really, written by himself. Because he is that good.
Read two of his books. They purport to be horror stories but they are not. They are about brutal violent sexual abuse. I used to work in forensic mental health prior to retirement and Matt Shaw should maybe be referred. This is one sick individual. Couldn't read more than two stories.
As always, Matt Shaw puts together a wonderful group of short stories to keep you entertained. What an imagination! So much fun. I even read over stories I had already read in 2016. The farm is a favourite!!!!!
This is rather embarrassing but it has taken me 4 years to finish this book!
For me, there are only so many extreme horror stories I can read consecutively so I have had many breaks from reading it and there are A LOT of stories here. Matt's output is frankly phenomenal, he releases new novella's at a staggering rate so these collections are extremely good value for money.
But how good are the stories? Well, hit-and-miss to be honest. You can see below my ratings for each story. "The End", "Twisted Bitches", "Two Minds", and "Terror Teds" are the highlights for me, but there are many many lowlights. Quality is an issue, some stories feel unfinished, rushed, unoriginal, but when you hit a good story it is all worthwhile.
Given my individual ratings I think the collection as a whole averages to 3/5.
My individual ratings:
4/5 - The End 3/5 - Dolls 2/5 - Despite The Roots 4/5 - Twisted Bitches 3/5 - For the Animals 3/5 - One Violent Motherf*cker 4/5 - Two Minds 2/5 - Extreme Horror 2/5 - Clown 2/5 - Some Kind of Cu*t 3/5 - Ashes 2/5 - Oscar's Night 2/5 - She'll Never Know 3/5 - The Lonely Psychopath 4/5 - Terror Teds 2/5 - Broken 3/5 - Farm 2 2/5 - The House that Hell Built
Nowhere near as good as Matt Shaw's usual books. He's better off writing his own books, as some of the additional author's stories were hard to get into and, to me, were pretty boring.
