Taciturn. Tough. Recalcitrant. Committed. Likes children. These are the things I look for in a romance book hero, and Finn Sutherland delivered. I devoured the parts where he was bold and in-charge without being a braggart with over-the-top tendencies. I also liked that he fell in love with the adorable Rosamond before he quite knew what was happening. She becomes his other half without even his consent or awareness. As her assigned protector, Finn kept trying to do the honorable thing, but lust and love will have their way.

"Something snapped deep inside Finn. Something broke. He could no longer pretend. The need pounding through his veins and roaring in his ears would not be denied or held at bay any longer."

This book was unpredictable and politically suspenseful, all without separating Finn and Rosamond. The secondary characters were wonderful and well-developed. Finn forges a relationship with all of Rosamond's family, which makes the story deeper and more satisfying.

This was a Highland romance that did a lot of things right, in my humble opinion. It was the third in a series, but the first book by Emma Prince that I have read. I will be looking up the first two in the series, also available on Kindle Unlimited.

I'm a big fan of Emma Prince and her romance novels. I'm pretty confident I've read every single one. A Warrior's Pledge is just as good as all the others.

However, Emma Prince is clearly following a very distinct pattern for every single novel. Heroine girl with somewhat tortured past meets (giant) hero with equally tortured past; girl kinda likes the hero but resists; hero doesn't want to like the girl, but keeps having oopsie-boners; something dramatic happens that ends with them kissing/etc; then they have to figure out how to stay together despite the odds. In the end, the Bruce is always like, "you crazy kids! Let me reward you for doing basically the one thing I told you not to do! Have fun being married!" Then the girl is pregnant, has a healthy pregnancy, and gives birth with 0 complications (super unlikely for this time period, especially considering how teeny tiny all of these heroine's are). It's exhausting to read the same story over and over again. Also, how are these approximately 30+ year old men NOT able to control themselves? Like, get it together.

I'm not complaining; it works! It makes for good, fun reading. But I'd like to see Prince challenge herself because she's obviously a talented writer. Maybe a less photogenic male lead. Maybe a less stereotypical, "smiles through the pain" female lead. Branch out! I believe in you!

All this being said, I quite enjoyed A Warrior's Pledge. I'd always liked Finn Sutherland from other Highland Bodyguards books. It is just funny that all these people following the same basic steps in every novel and, in the end, when they all meet up, it's like, "Hey, we all make the same decisions and do the same things! LOL!"

Basically: torn between loving it because it's easy to read and ultimately fun and feeling a little tired because it's basically the same story over and over again.

A Great Addition to a Wonderful Series
Another good Highland Romance. I love Finn. He is the dark brooding type I find most attractive. Rosamond was so sweet and innocent, a perfect match for the taciturn Finn. Their story was a little drier than the first two in this series. By the time I got 80% through I realized not all that much had happened. The first 2 had a bit more drama and intrigue. But, this was well written and still interesting enough for me to enjoy it. Their developing relationship really takes center-stage over action. Prince does tend to be around the 350-370-page mark which I find a little long for a light romance. They all so far could’ve been edited down just a bit. I have read every book published by Emma Prince, she is one of my favorite authors. She is consistent in her writing ability, usually earning 4-5 stars from me (only one of her books earned less than 4 stars). This is my 3rd favorite of the Highland Bodyguard series. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. Romance-5/5 Steaminess-3/5 Explicitness-3/5

I love Tim Campbell as a narrator.

This was an enjoyable story, though there were parts of it that were frustrating and I wasn't sure how we were going to get our happily ever after- but the strings all came together beautifully in a climax that was fast paced and fairly intense compared to the rest of the story.

I love the stunned faces when Fin introduced Rosamond as his wife. Fin has been gruff and stern for the past several books, and his hatred for the English (while understandable) was well known. It even damaged his relationship with Colin. I love the way Fin handled Nial's big emotions.

Mackenzie, the assassin, was mentioned but is still alive. I'm interested to see if he comes up in the future.

I hope Nial gets his own story, and I love that he was inducted into the bodyguard corps. Possibly Elaine too. I enjoyed Rosamond's dad too. He's a very fair man and he clearly loves his children. And Angus got another cameo! I love big soft hearted men who love animals. And Will Sinclair was mentioned! I'm ready to hear his story as well.

Whether I was in the middle of loving or groaning frustratingly during the plot, I couldn't put it down.

A Warrior's Pledge (Highland Bodyguards, Book 3) by Emma Prince is a captivating and mesmerizing Medieval Historical Romance. While, Book 3 in her fantastic "Highland Bodyguards" series, it can be read as a stand alone. I would suggest reading this mesmerizing series!

WOW! Brilliantly written, fast paced, the characters are enticing, alluring and utterly captivating, the storyline is utterly intriguing. Set in England and Scotland!

Lady Rosamond is pledged to a Lowlander as an alliance between Scotland and England, but someone has tried to kidnapped her once. Enter....Finn Sutherland, as her "Highland Bodyguard", sent by Robert the Bruce. He is brooding, with a dark heart, but gentle as well, once you get to know him.

Robert the Bruce, sent Finn, one of his best "Highland Bodyguards" to protect Lady Rosamond, as a request from her father.

Together Rosamond and Finn must face danger, near tragedy, their growing attraction to each other and their hearts. Will family, honor, duty or their hearts win this battle to find their HEA? Or will they lose all to the danger that lurks?

Many twists and turns with a few surprises along the way, danger lurking in an expected place, mystery, suspense, intrigue, a battle of hearts versus duty, honor and family.

Once again, Ms. Prince has written a tale that not only captivates but transfixes the reader into another era and definitely holds you intrigued from beginning to end.
I can't wait to read more of this captivating and intriguing "Highland Bodyguards" series.

Ms. Prince has fast become one of my all-time favorite Medieval Scottish Romance authors. She never disappoints me nor ever fails to peak my interest and hold me in utter awe.
A must read for fans of Historical Romance, Scottish romance, Medieval Romance and simply an awesome read!
Highly recommended! I look forward to the next grand adventure!

Finn Sutherland is a man of few words and hardly any smiles. One of King Robert the Bruce's most trusted inner circle, he does not let many in, and is thought to be a serious, humourless, and rather broody man.
Honourable, loyal and an excellent swordsman, Finn hates the English, being haunted by a dreadful and tragic secret that not many know about and that gives him nightmares, but when the Bruce gives him a mission to protect an Englishwoman, his loyalty is pushed to the limit.
Torn between his honour and his hatred, he swears to protect the beautiful Lady Rosamond and her son, who are being threatened by forces unseen.
But Lady Rosamond is not at all the English noblewoman Finn was expecting, she is not spoiled and stuck-up, but instead kind, friendly, down-to-earth and warmhearted with the most captivating violet eyes, he has ever seen.
Immediately drawn to Finn, Rosamund is determined to help this scarred and brusque man who has sworn to protect her.
Twists and turns follow all through this wonderfully emotional and exciting book. Full of angst and passion, you cannot help but be captivated by this tale.
Emma never fails to bring her characters to life, making them totally believable with her captivatingly imaginative writing.
I absolutely loved it!

This was the best book of the series so far. It might be because I have a thing for stoic men with tortured pasts and Finn represents the best of my fantasies.

Finn hates the English, all English. He can barely stomach his friend who  married an English woman so when Finn is ordered to go protect an English noblewoman, he is not happy.

He expects a spoiled, haughty English girl but is surprised to discover an easygoing and polite woman who is hardworking and loyal to her family. Rosamond and her family could change his prejudices.

I enjoyed the romance part of the book but the ongoing mystery about the secret group of bounty hunters and assassins is also interesting. The plot and the recurring characters make me want more.

A great tale

This is, of course, a love story but also a bit of a history lesson of the fierce hatred that historically fired the Scottish people to rise up against the English. As in all love stories, even sworn enemies have fallen to Cupid's arrow. After an immersion in the enemy's household, the hero realizes that they are not much different from their Scottish households, and his fierce prejudices and mistrust were based only upon his experience with the group of soldiers he met as a lad. The story reminds us that we are all more alike than we are different, and love does conquer all... at least in love stories anyway.

(4.25/5) Another great Scottish bodyguard read (and on Kindle Universe)! Rosamond is a sweet, caring FMC who has strong opinions but does not come across as being bratty or feisty, which is overdone in my opinion. Finn is a dark and brooding MMC but also has a tender spot in his heart that we get to see. The character development is great, with Rosamond learning to put her desires first for once, and with Finn learning to open his heart after a tragedy in his childhood. The side characters are also great, Rosamund’s family adds a lot to the story without being annoying (another overdone trope).

This was my first look at the the world of Robert the Bruce and his Bodyguard Corp. Robert had arranged arranged a marriage between Lady Rosalind and one of his Laird's. Someone didn't want the marriage to go ahead and Robert put Finn in charge of dealing with the problem.

If you like Highlanders, sword fights and historical Romances this is a must read in my eyes.

It was a very good read, loved the way it was written and the fact that Finn wasn't an over the top hero. This can be read as a standalone in my opinion, but I think like me you are going to want to read more.

I can’t wait to read the next book in the series

Another winner. Our author mixes such history in the books and it makes the reading even more interesting. All of her characters are strong. I am not going to tell you the story. She has done a much better job. I will tell you the emotions. You are going to hate the villains. You’re going to love the heroes. This is of course a romance so there is a happy ending. However the twist in the turns the bring you there are done by a very talented author. Do not miss this book

Great characters (wish I could have found a Finn), wonderfully authentic descriptions of the landscapes and lovely story (just like the first two in the series). I’ve got the next one ready to go and there’s not much else to say other than I thoroughly recommend this book (or any other by this author), I’ll go and start reading.

Ok

This book was very much line the first of this series in plot and characters. Although that was a little disheartening, the actual writing is good as is the dialogue.
I recommend to readers of historical romance novels.

Tiny spoiler this was headed to a 5 star rating just like the previous 2 book till the end NO Highland Warrior like Finn should end up in Living in England. 😭other than that ting Mis step Mrs. Prince is extremely talented and the narrator does the VERY best Scottish accents. On to the next book.

Loved everything about this book--I think it is Emma Prince's best one yet. I've been eagerly looking forward to Finn's story, and this did not disappoint. He is the same gruff, hard warrior from the other books, and we finally learn why he hates the English so much. Watching him fall for the English heroine despite that hatred, and despite the fact that he is supposed to be her bodyguard while she waits for her marriage to someone else, was so delicious. And the heroine was sweet and kind, but also protective of her family and trying to be brave and hold it together for them--that made it all the better when she sets aside duty and lets herself fall for Finn. I also loved all the side characters and hope we get to see them in future books. As always with Emma Prince's books, this was filled with romance, but also adventure, action, and a bit of suspense/mystery as well. Loved the twists at the end, and ultimately the perfect happily ever after for the main characters.

Scowling vs. Kindness

Finn Sutherland...I have be waiting for his story! Emma Prince delivered an exceptional story with Finn and Lady Rosamond. Finn is from King Robert the Bruces' Bodyguard Corp he is an exceptional highlander, but he hates the English to his very core. Now his King has given him a mission to guard an English Woman who is to be married to a lowlander in order to form an alliance. The woman was almost kidnapped. He hates this assignment, but he must obey his King...but that does not mean he has to like it.

Lady Rosamond has endured a lot in her life. There was a kidnapping attempt on her life and it has shaken her, but she is bound and determined to do her duty to benefit he family. When a bodyguard is assigned to her without her knowledge she is taken aback...a fearless highlander, no less. This highlander always wears a scowl and is not friendly whatsoever, but he is indeed handsome. She is going to change his attitude by killing him with kindness. She has her work cut out for her.

This was a very good book. I lock forward to the next one. Hopefully, it won't take too long.
