An outrageous, thrilling Caribbean adventure! On Isla Mujeres, a tiny island off the eastern coast of Mexico, two twenty-something women find themselves in possession of a seemingly authentic treasure map, which leads them on a chaotic search for buried treasure while navigating the dangers of too much tequila, disreputable men, and a killer.
And there is a dog, a lovable rescue-mutt.

Death in the Vineyard Mysteries; love, lust, and loot in the affluent Okanagan wine region
Isla Mujeres Mysteries; sun, sand, and tequila with a twist of murder and a dash of revenge.
The quirky cast of characters, plus Sparky the multi-breed rescue pooch, scramble to solve the mysteries and catch the bad guys.
Sparky is an island beach-mutt who invited himself into our lives in 2013. He walked into our house one evening at dinner time, and never left. He has curly terrier fur covering pink and black polka-dotted skin and long silky Spaniel ears. His front paws are larger than his back ones and his sense of smell is extraordinary.
I have a very diverse, some might say eccentric, work history that frequently sneaks into the backstory of my main characters. I have been a bank clerk, antique store owner, ambulance attendant, volunteer firefighter, supervisor of a cutting-edge transit control center, partner in a Canadian micro-brewery, partner in an awarding winning bed and breakfast, and a hotel manager.
This book was soo good I read it in one day. I truly could not put it down. Not only was it a captivating mystery but it was fun reading about people and places I know on the island. Jessica and Yasmin are very likeable female protagonists.
A friend that I traveled to Isla Mujeres with let me borrow this book. Though there are some goofy things going on, I overall enjoyed this book because it brought me back to Mexico. I liked it enough to buy the next 4 books in the series!
Update: 9/7/25: I finished re-reading this in anticipation of another trip to Isla Mujeres. The book feels a lot different 5 years later, and I think that I liked it even more this time. I will be re-reading the rest of the series soon, along with the 7th installment that I haven't read at all.
It´s the night of Dia de los Muertos on Isla Mujeres. Yazmin and Jessica decide to open the grave of Mundaca to find the hidden pirate treasure. Instead, they find a what looks to be a map but they have trouble deciding the location of the loot. Jessica finds a stray dog whom she names Sparky and takes him home to teach him to sniff for gold. In the meantime, they are still working as bartender and server at Loco Lobo restaurant in Centro where they meet a couple of guys. Ryan was okay but overheard them talking about treasure hunting. They other guy was Kirk and he was creepy. They begin to follow the girls hoping to get the treasure.
After there was a breakin at Yazmin´s house, Carlos, the owner of Loco Lobo and friends of the girls, finds Kirk's shark necklace in her house. He, too, finds Carlos creepy but think he resembles a fugitive from Florida so with the help of two of his childhood friends they kidnap Kirk right after he attacked the girls when they found the loot. Kirk was mysteriously dropped off in Florida while the girls were investigated for treasure hunting in Mexico. Apparently a person can only search for treasure in Mexico if they have the proper governmental documents and Mexico hasn't provide their approval.
There really is a person called Fermin Mundaca who built a hacienda on Isla Mujeres which is located in a jungle on the island.
I liked the writing style. The author explained Mexican idiosyncracies and habits for well such as the use of topes (speed bumps) and Mexican time versus gringo time.
Enjoyed how the author used fictional names for familiar landmarks on the island. It was fun to tour the island guessing what places she was referring to. The story line was fun and made for a perfect beach read.
What a great read! Treasure Isla was like a warm, fragrant gentle Caribbean breeze blowing through my gloomy Okanagan winter! I think other fans of Janet Evanovich or Sue Grafton will find this an engaging story. I'm now definitely a Lynda Lock mysteries fan!
This had action, adventure, humor and romance. It was nice to read about two young women going on a treasure hunt with a dog to help them and a surprise ending.
A fun and quick read - location of the story is one of my favorite places on the planet! It was fun to read about people and places I am familiar with!
What a romp! Loved this fast paced light read. Special fun to have a story about the island we have called our winter home for over 20 years. And you have gotta love that dog!
I wanted to love this book. Because I absolutely love Isla Mujeras. I did like it but it just wasn’t as well written as some of the books I’ve been reading. It’s a great vacation book, beach book.
Well of course I had to give this book a 5-star rating, I wrote it.
Treasure Isla is a lighthearted adventure set on our favourite island paradise, Isla Mujeres. The story is of two twenty-something young women, Yasmin and Jessica, who work at a popular local bar, making ends meet and having a good time. They decide to investigate the island legend of the Pirate Fermin Mundaca and his buried treasure.
The two women find themselves in possession of a seemingly authentic treasure map, which leads them on a chaotic search for the fortune, while navigating the dangers of too much tequila, disreputable men, and a killer. And there is a dog, a lovable rescue dog.
Come join the fun. Cheers Lynda Lock and Sparky the dog.
I chose this book because I am familiar with the setting. While that familiarity enhanced the enjoyment, the story was well written and I think I would have enjoyed it even without the bonus of a favorite place as the setting. Mystery, intrigue, romance and Spanish lessons combined for a fun read.
Fun read since the setting is on one of my favorite places, Isla Mujeres. I could picture where the characters were in many place. As for the story itself, not my favorite but it kept me interested enough to keep reading.
