Bluebell Knopps #4

Murder at the Museum

Rate this book

The basement.  That's where the secret to Bluebell's past, present & future resides.  And, despite Mathilda's warning, she simply must know the truth...

There's just one problem.  Upon discovering a scroll containing a disturbing prophecy about herself, Bluebell learns that the only person who is able to help her understand is no longer willing or able to do so.  Apparently, she's given up the life of an oracle and has settled down to live a quiet life as the curator of the witches museum in the small town of Katydid's Tooth.

Though disappointed, Bluebell finds that Katydid's tooth is a wonderful little place with warm, friendly citizens.  But then a woman goes missing and dead body turns up in the museum.  Perhaps all is not as it seems in this storybook town.

And, as usual, Bluebell is intent upon getting to the bottom of it all...

Murder At The Museum is the 4th Book in the “Bluebell Knopps Witch Cozy Mysteries” series by Nancy McGovern.  Nancy is also the author of the popular culinary cozy mystery series, “A Murder In Milburn” and the dog-centric “Rainbow Springs Cozy Mysteries”.

When Bluebell learns she was the subject of a prophecy, she won't rest until she learns what it says. Unfortunately, the prophecy contains warnings of death and murder. Worse, the witch who made the prophecy has renounced her powers and retired to a small, non-magical community, where she is the curator of a witch museum. Bluebell travels to Katydid's Tooth to meet with Rebecca Brentwood, but not long after she arrives, a man is found dead in the museum, and Rebecca has vanished. The police arrest Rebecca's husband, but both Bluebell and the man's niece are convinced he didn't do it. Bluebell won't rest until she finds the real killer.

These stories are short and simple. Not much to sink your teeth into, but good for a light read.

This time I suspected the killer, but I dismissed it and focused on another person. But the case was awesome.

Another good light read

Bluebell is a lovely character with a good heart and head. With just the right amount of confidence to show she isn't one of those know it all gals that can spoil a character. Good on you for inventing a lovable and more believable sleuth. Keep it up.

Bluebell Knopps received a prophecy when she was born, as do all witches. The prophecies are usually vague, but in Bluebell’s case, it was pretty specific. It stated that death will follow Bluebell wherever she goes. Does this mean that she will attract murders?

Bluebell feels compelled to talk with Rebecca, the witch who wrote her prophecy, even though Rebecca is no longer a witch. Twenty years ago Rebecca relinquished her magic and went to live among humans as one of them.

When Bluebell finally meets with Rebecca, she learns that Rebecca’s assistant disappeared 2 weeks ago. Rebecca asks Bluebell to act as her assistant for a few days and Bluebell gratefully accepts the job. This also gives Bluebell an opportunity to further discuss her prophesy and any options with Rebecca.

The next morning, Bluebell discovers that Rebecca’s assistant has been killed and that Rebecca has also disappeared.

Will Bluebell be able to solve the murder of the assistant? Where is Rebecca and can Bluebell find her? Will there be more deaths?
