This issue is framed as Nate writing a letter to his son Randy about his case and about recent events.
The story switches between flashbacks of Adam’s trial and Cap. Scott visiting the remaining witnesses. Who are dying in explosions!

The Court doesn’t believe a word Adam’s saying while we learn that the General Nate is accused of murdering was part of a drug operation.
Adam’s defense council learned of this but was bribed to keep it quiet.

Captain Atom saves the now P.I. Yarrow AND Eiling from the assassin Bolt.

Eiling had whole-heartedly believed Nate was guilty. Now, he’s keeping an open mind. Yarrow rings Nate to inform him he’s investigating the drug ring once again!

Nate ends up throwing the letter away…

We finally find out what happened to get Nathaniel Adam court marshaled!! As this issue showcases Cameron Scott investigating the 20 year old case and following up with the people involved in it, while also writing a letter to his son trying to explain the entire case and everything he did to try and prove his innocence in the present. BUT, at the same time a tacky costumed villain with a skull on his chest and the ability to shoot lightning bolts, has been hired to take out the witnesses before Scott can properly follow up with them. With a power and suit like that I assume his name was death-bolt, I was partially right as it’s actually just bolt.

But here’s the real juice, what went down?! It turns out that Adam used to lead a covert ops team that would go into enemy territory to get back classified materials that were shot down. On one such mission they identified the material to get back and asked for a support company. According to Adam the General on the other end denied the request and ordered they go in anyway, as they went in they were fired on and 4 soldiers ended up dead, and now without any proof from the general they fully blame Adam as being reckless and getting the crew dead. During the court marshal they also had a radio tech take the stand to testify that on that day most of the radios were broken and there was only one official working one, so it’s highly unlikely that Adam had communicated with the general. But why can’t we ask general Lemar? Well that’s because of what happened when Adam got back. It was testified in court that Adam was disgruntled with the general and his orders and it’s said because of that anger Adam went to his office and killed him!! According to Adam he did got to the office to exchange words with the general, but he didn’t kill him! As he got in the office he found that he was drugged and passed out, and when he woke up the MP’s were busting down the door and his knife was in the generals chest. Of course that is very hard to believe.

But now we get to the investigation in the present day. It was ruled an accident but one of the participants of that court was found dead this morning, his lawn mower blew up in a freak accident. In reality bolt cut the fuel line and ignited it with a charge then used his teleportation tech to get away. This caught the attention of Eiling who now has men following Scott around as they have also followed up to find the identities and whereabouts of the other key personnel from that case. Which includes the radio tech who is now a skipper, and a colonel working as a detective in Vegas. The next stop for Scott is LA to meet with the radio tech, he unfortunately doesn’t have any new information to share with Scott and Scott goes along his way. But later that day the man called Scott up to tell him the truth, in reality he knew that the general had a secret 2nd radio that he believed was used for secret and possible illegal smuggling communications. But was too scared to bring it up during court. As he is telling all of this to Scott over the phone, the phone line is suddenly cut as bolt has come for this man to be the next victim! As captain atom rushes to the scene all he finds is a flaming boat and the charred remains of the man.

Bolt caught wind that captain atom was right behind him and made contact with his benefactors as he is not getting paid to deal with superheroes. But they left him a gift triple the amount he was going to be paid and he was all aboard. Next stop for Scott is the PI in Vegas who immediately recognized him as Adam as he doesn’t forget a face. This man was the acting defense for Adam during the case and in a heated discussion Adam accused the man of not investigating properly or holding back info about the trafficking because they got to him as well before the trial. The investigator was appalled and angry and they went their separate ways, but the man didn’t drive far at all before bolt came knocking for his next hit. Luckily captain atom was right down the road and was able to lock into combat with bolt and save the investigators life. Facing death has a way of getting information out of people as he spilled his guts to captain atom (would of helped to talked to Nate instead geez), and admitted that he was paid off not to bring up the trafficking during the trial and that he has regretted it since.

But bolt teleported away during the fight and the men working for Eiling made note of it, as there is one surviving member of the court Marshall that hasn’t been brought up…Eiling!! He was part of the judges that ultimately found Nate guilt and now bolt is gunning for him. In I have to admit quite a badass move once he realized bolt was coming for him he received confirmation that bolt is not bulletproof, and decided to handle things himself. When bolt got to the house he spotted Eiling and his uniform sitting on the couch and placed a well controlled bolt right into the head of a dummy!! It was a trap and Eiling popped out from the corner with a machine gun just as the moment captain atom flew in to block the bullets and the next bolt from bolt before proceeding to take down bolt completely. After the fight Eiling was quite disappointed he didn’t get to shoot him but finally admitted that there are now seeds of doubt in his mind about the court Marshall against Nathaniel and he will do what he can to help. The issue ends as Adam in the present realizes he can’t send the letter to his son and tell him everything that has happened as that would require telling him that he is captain atom, and he swore not to do that. He also received a call from the PI in Vegas as he is now devoted full time to helping solve this case for Nate and to help clear his name. Wish he had that drive the first time around lol.

We finally get to see the case file! And not just that, but we also get to see Nathaniel Adam's attempt at once again proving his innocence. I gotta say though... Bolt? What the actual heck is with his design.
