Red Moon is the second book in the Vampire Files Trilogy. The fantasy character list just keeps growing and the twists just keep turning. I cannot wait until the next book is released.
This book had just the right stuff for the mood I have been in lately. It has romance, danger, mystery, and surprises galore. I loved that this book was able to make support characters from the last novel become a pivotal part of the storyline. The characters you thought where here today and gone tomorrow never to be heard of again end up in fact being one of the main focuses as well as introducing yet a couple new characters to thicken the plot.
The only thing I didn't like about Red Moon is that I missed Gabe. Honestly when I read the first book even though then it was completely obvious it was going to go in Adam's favor I was still team Gabe. So to have a book mostly missing him just left me a little bummed.
I would recommend this book to vampire romance lovers.
Red Moon is more than just a worthy successor to the fabulous Red Night. It’s an intriguing suspense novel in its own right and mysterious down to the wire. I was thrilled to be reunited with the luscious Adam and the feisty PI Samantha in this fast-paced urban fantasy page-turner. And guess what? Not only do we still have one of the genre’s hottest vampires, this time we’re treated to werewolves too! The plot was strong and well thought out with many unseen twists and turns. The tension between the two leads was as compelling as ever, the heat level ratcheting up several notches. R.K. Close is a natural in this genre. I look forward to the third book in the series.
Samantha is hired by a couple to quietly find their daughter. She is surprised to find out that they are werewolves. Add on someone sending black roses and Samantha has her hands full. I can't wait to find out about her family.
Last time we left Samantha Chase grounded, with a hot vampire boyfriend. I remember those good days of freedom and fun in which after vanquishing a threat in Zacarías, we were just left in the anticipation of how things were going to develop for Sam and Adam.
Well, things happened, but as you know. This is not a fairy tale, it's a paranormal thriller, and RK Close knows how to write her monsters...
The second installment of the Vampire Files takes a risk, and that is managing an emerging story line while still exploring issues left opened in the first book. The treatment of these subjects is what makes or break a trilogy and RK handles it all beautifully.
Samantha is still dealing with certain aspects of herself. Forget about the fact that she found out about the supernatural not so long ago... or that she is now dealing with the perks and inconveniences of having a vampire boyfriend.
Now there are indications that for her, the link runs deeper. Those dreams that might have been a link to Adam or happy coincidences, are expanding into a gift that proves both beneficial and dangerous, depending on how her dreams affect reality around her.
And then, there's the upcoming case... a simple, run of the mill missing person. Or is it? Soon enough, she'll find there is something a little more sinister than youths on the run. Something powerful, organized, family focused, and with a thirst for violence in full moon nights...
If I tell you more I'll spoil it, but all I have to say is keep watching Samantha Chase. She's proving to be an extraordinary female protagonist in the world that mixes paranormal and romance.
RK Close did it again, Red Moon is a relatable red with characters that carry genuine voices. It will thrill you and leave you wanting more, because... guess what? People and circumstances are revisiting Samantha's life... enough to guarantee that it will come full circle.
This Trilogy is so enjoyable. Samantha is one of those heroines that doesn't need saving. In Red Moon she finds out that there are wolves in her midst. She kind of knew, but didn't know some were her friends. It starts out with Adam being held captive and deprived of blood. She's kidnapped and put in the cell with him. Even know they love each other, Adam sees lunch. I loved how the author put the end at the beginning. You never feel like you've been cliffhung either. And yes,,, I've made that word up. Can't wait until the third part in the trilogy. RK Close,,, your on an AWESOME writing journey. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves action, thriller romantic suspense, and paranormal. Ages 16 and up.
Another great book in the trilogy! RK Close's descriptions and story telling is both intense and adventurous, anticipating what will happen next Can't wait for the third book.
I am slightly annoyed that have to wait for book 3!!!! The characters are so well written. I feel like I know them. Oh can't wait to find out about Samantha's past.
As Samantha's thrown into the supernatural world, she takes it like a champ. Not to mention, she's in love with a vampire, completely drool worthy, I might add. When Sam's hired to work a missing persons case, things begin to get hairy - literally. There's even more to the supernatural world than Sam realizes and every time she turns around, a new danger's lurking at her doorstep. This isn't even the half of it. In the midst of this investigation, Sam's life turns upside down - she's twisted with emotion and so much turmoil, you can't help but feel her pain. She also discovers a few hidden secrets about herself...
This book is full of surprising twists and turns that leave you guessing and anxiously awaiting for the next scene to play out. I adore this series! If you haven't started this series yet, I highly recommend settling in and reading book one first. Get ready for an adventure! Five-stars!!
PI Samantha Chase has already killed one immortal. Her work is definitely cut out for her. A great fantasy story that is the fabulous second book. A don’t put down until you’re finished kind of book.
Vampires, witches and wolves oh my. Nothing could make this book better. There's cliff hangers and romance. Mixed with action and drama. What's not to love
Excellent read fast-paced with plenty of action and suspense, mystery and romance loved the characters and storyline vampires, werewolves, witches and humans now a proposal hope there is another continuing story around the. Corner
I can’t tell you how much this FMC bothers and annoys me. She makes the stupidest decisions over and over again. Also, as a private investigator, she doesn’t connect dots and use her common sense whatsoever. It’s so frustrating. This whole series reads more like a YA - despite the FMC being 26. She reminds me of that old show Veronica Mars. Seriously…she’s more like a high schooler than an actual, independent adult. (And speaking of which… she is constantly talking about how she wants her independence and nobody owns her and she can take care of herself - yet repeatedly she makes the stupidest decisions that always put her in harm’s way where she needs to be rescued by her ‘overprotective’ (boy)friends. She CANNOT handle herself. And she has the maturity of a teenager. So all she ends up coming off as is bratty and arrogant.)
Aside from that, there are still numerous errors grammatically and otherwise which is consistent in both the first 2 books. She uses the wrong words constantly (to instead of too. There instead of they’re and their). And many other typos where there is an extraneous word as if she edited the sentence, but didn’t bother to proofread.
Lastly, the romance is so flimsy at best. And is supremely frustrating. The author is trying to build up all of this sexual tension… and for what? It’s laughable.
I purchased Red Moon IMMEDIATELY after reading its prequel, Red Night. I am completely addicted to this story and cannot wait until the third book comes out!!!! Fans of several genres (paranormal, thriller, vampires/werewolves, romance) should read this for a totally addictive writing style and a romantic storyline. The heroes are real and not all macho attitude and the heroine Sam? She's funny, sarcastic, smart and brave. No weak heroines here. 5 stars and worth every single one.
This is the second outing for PI Samantha Chase/Lewis where a wealthy business couple seek her help in finding their missing daughter. But in true 'Sam' fashion everything that could go bump in night...does! Sam's loyal, selfless, strong, a little ditzy at times, but feisty and good. She appears to be a little 'different' herself which compromises the memories of her childhood and parents, and the ever present vampire, Adam, has her heart beating treble time. It's a well written, flowing, clean, (no bad language or sex), page turner that draws the reader in with the story telling, (which is all in Sam's pov), and strong, tense storyline. It would've been nice and beneficial to read another's view point, especially that of Adam's. I enjoyed the characters and storyline but if I was completely honest I would've loved some juicy, sexy bits. The intense, sexual attraction between Sam and Adam almost singes the pages... imagine the scorching heat when they do actually get it together#!?! Anyway, great book and a continuing storyline. 3.5*
I wanted to like this book so badly. I loved all the characters except the FMC. She is so pridefully, stupid she deserves more pain than she got. She got pummeled, almost to death, in the first book by a vampire. Then she takes this case and is told by multiple people to leave it because it's dangerous, yet she shrugs off all warnings. She didn't know werewolves existed before this case and knows nothing about them but repeatedly tells everyone that she'll be fine. Adam tries to explain how fast and strong they are but she's so arrogant assuming that she'll be fine, it borders on insanity. She went to an Alpha's home, suspecting him to be the killer, to question him by herself! Then gets angry at Adam because he came for her, saying that she's an adult who can take care of herself and that she doesn't want to be smothered. He's just trying to keep her alive. Going into the unknown alone is not being an adult, it's irresponsible and stupid. I loved all the other characters so much that I want to read the third book but I don't think I can bear more of her childish behavior.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Sam hopes for some down time from the craziness she went thru recently, but jumps into more action with a new case thinking there is nothing supernatural to only discover the opposite. This time we have a whole different "Animal" and Some deadly hocus pocus that arrives from the past. She learns about new and different covens , packs and even becomes aware of new family existence. Even though she's been thrown into danger her new and aware fae powers slowly emerge .
I enjoyed this book, we have new and old characters in this one. Loved how everything fell in place , smoothly. Can't wait to read the third installment.
Absolutely loved this book. It was quite an emotional rollercoaster with Samantha and Adam, as well as quite a few more supernatural characters that made a great addition to this sequel. Sometimes, I couldn't contain my smile, I felt so engrossed in their world and troubles. On a side note, as a lovery of mystery, I couldn't guess who the bad guy was till the very end. So, it feels like a fulfilling story in that aspect also. (Loved the ending to bits!)
Thank you for allowing me to read and review this ARC. It was a wonderful tale full of dark and exciting paranormal elements. Can't wait for book 3!
Book 2 of the Vampire Files Trilogy. I enjoyed this book more than the first. We get to meet many new characters and see some familiar ones too. We find out more on Sam’s background and also how her relationship with Adam is doing. I hope book three comes out soon!
This is a great combination of mystery and romance. The love triangle in book 1 was well done but I'm glad that this installment focuses solely on Adam and Sam. There is some intense action here as well. It all combines to make a highly enjoyable read.
This, the 2nd book in a trilogy, was a book full of passion, intrigue, mystery, fantasy, reality in real life and in a skewed sense of reality, humor, heart-flutters, fear, shock, and every emotion in between, with a totally kick-ass final paragraph!!! Samantha Lewis, a modern-day private investigator, has had her world turned topsy-turvy after Adam Blackwell, Gabriel, Jacob, and Zacheriah are thrust into that world. In a matter of months, she's realized that her world has been challenged to realize there are real things that go bump in the night, with flesh and blood and blood and blood . . . A crazed vampire is out to kill her, a Hunter of vampires has arrived to protect her from the killer, another stranger with angel blood flowing in his veins appears to tickle her fancy and touch her heart, another vampire has arrived with a connection unexplicably strong to overtake her heart and soul, not to mention the introduction of lycan characters. Having a small storage of super-power blood in her system, along with a protective dagger and a powerfully protective necklace, Sam attempts to live a somewhat normal life while vampires, witches, angels, devils, and werewolves move in, through, and out of her existence. And all the while, Adam, who saves her, ruins her, challenges and baffles her, and adores her, flits into every space of her being. Ms Close has given so much awesome characterization to each individual who moves into and through Sam's life, as well as creating such a broad, vivid comprehension of Samantha Lewis, with humor, beauty, grace, growing confidence while remaining very modest, despite having the interest of 3 handsome men at one time! Fantasy is not my main genre, but after being offered the chance to listen, read, and review by the author, I find that this fantasy most definitely IS for me!! I recommend this trilogy to anyone who loves romance and passion, with humor, mystery, and full-bodied characters!!
Red Night #1 - A well written, humorous, romantic suspense filled with interesting characters, both funny and menacing. The book starts a little slow, but kicks into gear and is hard to put down. There's a twist or two adding to the excitement and the humor never leaves the pages. I laughed out loud numerous times, the suspense and intrigue are great. The reactions of the female character are realistic and I appreciate her thoughts and morals. Hooked and looking forward to reading Red Moon, the second book. For those who care, there's sexual tension but no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Red Moon #2 - Another well written, humorous, romantic, fast paced, suspense filled with interesting characters and a twisting plot. As with Red Moon, the excitement never stops. The female character is still realistic and keeps her head and morals. I look forward to reading more of this series. If you love Jim Butcher and Charlaine Harris, you will love RK Close! For those who care, there's sexual tension but no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Red Dream #3 - Another well written addition to the series. Fast paced and suspense filled, with romance for several characters, RD introduces more interesting characters to round out the series. Plenty of drama, confusion and mishaps, while the female character gathers her resources and receives support in her endeavors from surprising sources. For those who care, there's no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
If you haven't read Read Night, the first book in the Vampire Files Trilogy, you will want to read that so you don't miss out on how Samantha Chase's life turned upside down after falling for a sexy vampire named Adam.
In this second book, the sassy Phoenix PI finds herself yet again with an expanding understanding of the paranormal world. When she is asked to look into the disappearance of a young woman she is shocked to learn she is dealing with another type of supernatural creature. As sworn enemies, a clash ensues between the vampire she loves and those she must associate with to find answers to solve her case.
Stalked and attacked, Sam ends up in the middle of a conflict. To make matters worse, Adam mysteriously disappears without a trace. There is a second plot happening, one, even more threatening. In an unexpected twist, Sam learns there are other creatures out there even more dangerous that want to harm her.
This story is fast-paced and keeps you guessing until the end. RK Close has taken Urban Fantasy to the next level and crafted a world of paranormal creatures we can al fall in love with. Smart and sexy, Sam is the ultimate hero, who is always striving to do the right thing and protect those she loves. Red Moon is the kind of book you will want to read more than once. I have!
I do love Kindle Unlimited! Thanks to them, I inhaled the continuation of Sam's story this evening. ( Writers who put books into KU have first dibs on my book budget! )
Sam's world is expanding exponentially, and dangerously so. A common threat brings the various groups of supes together, albeit with much caution and tension.
Writer RK Close has created a rich world, with the potential for endless stories. I do enjoy the dynamics among the supe groups and the individuals. A theme is emerging of people seeking to update the rules and traditions of their people to something more equitable and just. That alone creates some fine plot twists, in addition to everything else happening. Overall, the writing and editing are again excellent.
Content: There is passion, but there are no sex scenes. I do not recall any vulger language. There is violence, but there are no graphic, excruciating details.
Possible Trigger: Sam and others are in danger from enemies through most of this book. The resulting sense of being under threat may be a trigger for some readers.
I do like that "light" far outweighs any "darkness" in this book. Sam sets an example of facing what she fears and doing the right thing to the best of her ability.
RED MOON is the second book in the Vampire Files trilogy. They do need to be read in the order of release.
The second book was even better than the first. To tell you what I liked the most would be a huge spoiler. Let’s just say there was a uniqueness to the whodunit.
There is a great cast of main and supporting characters, all of whom play vital parts, even when their part is small.
Ms. Close has built her own world of paranormal creatures and their rules. One of them may be Sam. What is she? What does it mean for her future?
I love that Sam is strong, even when she is questioning her own strength and decisions. I love that all of her friends, new and old, are so loyal and dependable. It’s how I want to see the people in my life.
At the end, there was just one important question… I only hope book three picks up with the answer!
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely. Title: RED MOON Series: Vampire Files #2 Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance, Suspense Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: A – near perfect Received from: R.K. Close (as a gifted copy)
Sam thought she had learned about the supernatural when she found out that vampires are real but she never dreamed that there was so much more to learn. When she is hired to find a missing girl, no one tells her the girl is a werewolf. And so are several more friends of hers, including her favorite bartender at Rula Bula, her favorite bar. Everyone keeps telling her to walk away but she's to stubborn to listen until it's too late and she can't, not and keep living, at least. What happened to the missing girl? You knows the answers she seeks? Is Maddie still alive? Why is some creepy guy stalking her? Why does she keep having these dreams that seem to be trying to tell her something? All the answers are to be found in this, the 2nd book in the Vampire Files series. The writing is outstanding and the characters are fully developed and charismatic and the storyline us fascinating. The perfect mixture of mystery, fantasy and romance it kept me reading long after I should have been asleep. Highly recommended.
