Rate this book
Michael Sinclair’s a wreck. He’s reeling from the loss of his twelve-year-old son and struggling to find a reason to go on. When his ex-wife insists he take care of the family dog for a while, he’s less than enthusiastic about helping out. He has no desire to face his grief head on, and Bandit brings back way too many powerful memories. But his son adored Bandit and unless he’s going to get rid of the dog, he has no choice but to take the dog into his home.

Breck Lowe is a veterinarian at Take Me Home Adoptions where Michael’s family adopted Bandit years ago. He’s always had a little thing for Michael, but he had no idea Michael was bi-sexual. When Michael has a few too many one night, and he hits on Breck, things get interesting and way more complicated.

The two men have an undeniable connection that Breck would give anything to explore. But how do you build a future with a man who is still grieving the past?

3.5 stars.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

This is a sweet short romance.
My complaint with it is that it needed to be longer. The relationship between the MCs seemed to start almost straight away. I hoped for more depth and development between them.
There was a missed chance to develop them further but as a short story it was okay.
I loved the dog and his antics. The ex wife was hilarious and her relationship with Michael is fun.
Michael was so hurt and broken to start with but you saw him bloom throughout the book.
I really enjoyed reading this book from a new to me author. I will definitely be looking out for more.

The book was a short story but could have easily been a full length novel. I felt as if Breck and Michael had a sweet journey that could have been deeper, because it seemed as if they had more to say, more to do. But I absolutely loved it as it was, too.
Breck is a veterinarian and Michael a loan officer at a bank. Michael has been grieving over the unexpected loss of his 12 year old son Liam in a freak hiking accident when he was with friends. He and his wife Cheryl, are divorcing, though they remain very good friends. Michael is not ready to have Cheryl insist that he take Bandit, Liam's dog, but he has no choice as his ex's fiance's young son is allergic to dogs. Michael takes the dog, but is resentful and irritated that the dog is there, while at the same time confusingly (to himself, at least) possessive of him at the same time.
The two MCs they meet when Michael needs to go to the store for food for himself, but once there has no idea what to do with Bandit. The connection between the two men is instant and was extremely well written, the sex scenes were poignant and emotional with just enough heat to seem believable. And the fact that Breck took charge in that area made complete sense as Michael was still coming to terms with his terrible loss.
It was a great read and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a short pick-me-up HEA.

This is a very emotional and well written book. The skittish and worry that Michaels character carries with him makes you love the character more. Michael is grieving the loss of his son and feels he has no life left. Michael is forced to have look after his son's dog and through that he meets Breck. The only man who can make him see that life is for living. The characters are gripping and this is a lovely emotional book well worth a read.

Oh man.. my only complaint was it wasn't longer. This had so much sadness.. so much grief.. so much pain.. but it also had so much love.. and hope.. and happiness. I loved these characters and the dog was even more amazing. Totally sweet romantic scenes... some smoking hott sexy time scenes.. and overall it was just a feel good HEA story that was short and sweet. I am so glad I got to review it

A beautifully written short read for a cold winter's evening.

Michael is grieving for his son who died a year ago. He is totally lost. His life has fallen apart. His wife has left him and moved on with her life but he can't. She brings him their son's dog when she can no longer keep him and so begins his road to recovery.
Michael feels obligated to look after his son's dog even though he doesn't want to but it is Bandit who unknowingly is responsible for the turnaround in Michael's life.
There is a lot packed in to this short. You feel Michael's despair and loss. He can barely look after himself now let alone a pet. Yet when Bandit falls ill Michael reacts and does the right thing.
