Award-winning writer Chris Campillo sees a romance story in every situation, just ask her family and friends. When she’s not writing happily ever afters, she’s still creating—be it a movie that goes straight to DVD or a distress-framed chalkboard. (Recipients of the latter discourage that pursuit.) She lives in Texas with the world’s most patient husband, two hilarious and very talented kids, and a tiny cat that somehow hogs the bed. Occasionally, she gets a wild hair and performs standup under her stage name, Pepper McCormick. Really a fun and charming story. Read it on a plane and laughed out loud at the heroine's mishaps and mayhem when she first meets the hero. Terrific chemistry and the conflict of his lie will keep you turning the pages. Well done- Loved this!
This was an engagingly written story. I enjoyed the dual third person povs and I also liked the fact that the MCs were older (the h was in her 30s and the H was either in his late 30s or early 40s). The MCs were realistic people, selfish at times and scared at others, which made me want to root for them.
However, there were just too many sex scenes and cliches for me to really enjoy this. And why do characters convince themselves they can have a fling when they know they can't deal with the fall out? Ugh.
And while there is no ow/om drama, there were some mentions of the H with his many previous women. He was such a loyal guy in this story, why did the author feel the need to include those details? The author probably wanted to highlight how special the h was to the H, but it had the opposite effect for me. I wish that she hadn't included those parts in this story.
The H also was pretty dumb for most of the book. It was realistic the road he took to coming the glaringly obvious right decision he had to make, but sometimes I just wanted to yell at him to open his eyes and hurry up.
My last quibble is that the h is a klutz and she has lots of accidents when the H is around. It had me rolling my eyes. His handsomeness makes her a klutz . Of course. And she giggles. A lot. I don't know why, but a grown woman giggling sort of weirds me out.
Overall I would say that I enjoyed reading this book. There was some good character development and the MCs seemed realistic. However their ridiculously dense antics dampened my enjoyment.
She has been a widow taking car of her two children. He is back in town just long enough for his company to believe that this is one of three cities to build their newest business. But he doesn't want it here. She works for the state and has a vested interest in the business to move here. She already has a couple of ventures fail to move here. And this one could cost her a job if it fails. But when sparks start up between them what is he going to do? Is she willing to forgive?
Very! Good! Nice to read a story for adults about adults. Story line very believable. Have now started on book 2 and it has started out with a bang. I will be looking for more books by this author. This book is well written. Would have given it 5 stars but a few hammer and spell check errors. But that aside this book is with the time.
Loved Jack! He was sexy and so very patient with his neurotic woman!! Given his mother's history, I'm surprised he stayed. The story of his dad was weak and pretty much not needed. The author made me laugh out loud and the sex scenes not but tasteful.
A very enjoyable read. The author pulls you in from the very beginning of the book, and keeps you interested throughout. The characters are compassionate, witty, and overall fun people. I will be looking for more books from this author, for sure!!
