Men of the Ice #8

Going All In

Rate this book
Trenton Majest toils in relative obscurity for the San Antonio Generls, giving his all in practice, but seldom making it into a game, unless somebody else gets injured. With limited ice time, there’s not much opportunity to play his way into the stat line or the fans’ hearts.

Pediatric nurse Lauren Chase has long struggled with her weight, and also her confidence. A string of bad experiences has left her wary of relationships, and she’s resigned to always being just the bridesmaid or best friend.

When mutual friends conspire to play matchmaker, both Trenton and Lauren are wary of what the other expects, but if they open their hearts to the possibilities, can they discover what they don’t even know they’re looking for?

I love sports romance - the sport of hockey most of all and I really enjoyed this book. I liked the fact that Trenton, the hero wasn't one of the stars of the team. It's not that I mind when a front line player is a hero, but it's refreshing when he's not. And Lauren, our heroine, has body issues being a bit on the plus side. I'm a bit wary when the heroine is plus size since I am myself and it's so hard to read about them as it's such an internal issue with me that I struggle with every single day of my life. It's a delicate balance and that make it tricky for me to feel an author got it right. But kudo's to Ms. Schriver because she does get it right.

Trenton and Lauren are so perfect for each other, each dealing with personal issues, his with his career and hers with her self image. They bolster and encourage each other and fill out the missing pieces the other has.

This is book 8 of a series and I somehow missed that. But it read quite well as a stand-alone. After I finished this book I was doing a bit of a happy dance to discover I had a number of other books in this series and then went on to get even more. This one is book 8 after all. So once we get back into cooler, more hockey like weather, I'm going to enjoy catching with the hockey players on this team.

Very heartwarming and even a little closer to home, I might say. I devoured this one in just one day. This is the type of book in which the characters feel real and you can even relate to them. True is a work of fiction and we all dive in looking for the HEA and the butterflies, but having both characters show insecurities and even fear for mundane things is not something we see in lots of books. That's what draw me in and hooked me until the end. After a really bad relationship, Lauren was left emotionally bruised. She doesn't have the "ideal" body type that today's society seems to crave and accept, leaving her with a low self steem and doubting the male population. The main conflict in this book, body shaming, is something most of us have gone through and none of us should have. At some point, I even got mad at Lauren for putting herself down so much, but then I realize that in reality we do that and treat ourselves that way. Trent fulfilled his dream of playing in the NHL, but his dream could be short-lived if he doesn't prove himself in the ice. Add to that his shyness and lack of recognition in comparison with his other teammates and his confidence is in need a a boost. What started as a blind date and out of obligation, quickly turned into something more, but their confidence and insecurities might get in the way of the best thing that has ever happened to either one of them.

Trenton Majest is a player on the bubble. He plays for the San Antonio Generals but is a healthy scratch for many games and he needs to hit 60 games so he doesn't get sent back down to the minors.

Lauren Chase is a pediatric nurse who has a very low self esteem due to her plus size figure. She doesn't view herself very highly and is very nervous for her blind date with Trenton Majest.

As Lauren and Trenton begin to get closer they have several hurdles to overcome, including Trenton needing to focus on the game and Lauren needing to believe in herself. Will the two be able to get through their own personal battles to work on a future together or will outsiders opinions influence any growth either have had?

I really enjoyed this book.

I liked Trenton and as a hockey fan I completely understand that need to get 60 games and the ability to focus on your game during the critical times. As a "press box player" Trenton has to fight harder to get into the line up and needs to prove himself each time he is out there in order to stay in the lineup. Yet Trenton also realized that he was never going to be a star but still tried to do his best.

Lauren had so little self-esteem due to her body size and love of eating. I think so many of us can relate to her and I think she was very discouraged that she was at odds within herself. She couldn't understand why someone like Trenton would be interested in her and I think it's sad that so many of us are ashamed by our body sizes and believe that it is the deciding factor in someone else's belief about us. We learn a little more about why Lauren is so hard on herself and I hope we can all learn something from Trenton and his opinions!

This is such a great series and I am loving the Men of Ice!!

Here we are at Book Eight already in The Men of the Ice Series and what another great new player we get to meet in Trent Majest. Trent is a player for the San Antonio Generals but what he is trying to do is find his permanent place on the team and not have to worry about being shipped down to the minors.
Lauren Chase is a Pediatric Nurse who is struggling with weight like many other women but when you are battling self esteem issues things can be a little hard.
Lauren & Trent are set up on a blind date not knowing that they both struggle with self esteem issues for different reason they fall into a relationship that is not only sweet but uplifting to them both.
As you read this couple's story you are absolutely smitten with them and you know that these two people truly deserve that HEA.

Wow, book Eight is finally here. I can't get enough of these books. It must be the Canadian in me. But, seriously whether you like hockey, you will love these books. Book 8 follows Lauren a plus size woman who is extremely down on herself. Hooked up on a blind date by her friend Riley, she meets Trent. Sparks fly, confidence grows and a bench warmer is no longer. Trent helps Lauren believe in her beauty and she fires him up on and off the ice. These books are great quick reads that leave you smiling and anxiously waiting for the next one. I absolutely loved it.
