Lightning Luke lived past Day Zero, the day he was appointed to die. As a result, he faded from the world in such a way that he may as well be a ghost. Even to his wife, Gina.
Until . . .
Fate lands Gina right in the crosshairs of the Angel of Death and her own Day Zero. Death is a formidable foe. Especially when he has helpers. A killing crew has been hired to take Gina out for being a witness—showing up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Suddenly, Gina can see Luke again after three years of believing he’s dead. Their reunion has an expiration date. They could have forever together, if only he can keep her alive for the next 24 hours.
Whether it’s life or death, it’s irreversible. The countdown of her eternity has begun.
BJ Hyman was born in Nashville, TN to Joe and Betty Story (yes, her maiden name is Betty Jo Story...how's that for someone born to write?).
She was first published as the winner of a poetry contest in her local paper in Effingham, IL at the age of 10 and the writing bug never left her. Since then she has had poetry and one short story published in varying anthologies.
She got a B.A. in Theater and studied Music in college because the arts and storytelling have always called to her. She worked in television and radio for over 7 years before spending another 7 as a school teacher of Music and Theater.
She's written 5 full-length screenplays, one play, and over 25 hour long episodic scripts for television. Day Zero is her first novel.
She currently lives in Columbus, MS with her Commercial Producer husband, Jim, three loving dogs (Wrigley, Serenity, and Sunny) that she calls her "doghters" (when you're a creative, you can make up your own words...see: Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky), and a 19 year old turtle named Melville.
This book finally released as a B&N Nook book. :) Excellent read. The plot moved along at a good pace, and the side plot with Gable was very intrigueing (sp?). Have to wonder what Gable's game really is and how long he has been a "Zero". Is he trying to be another Herbert West, with all his re-agents? Has he been a "zero" so long that he has gone mad? Another question is do "sensitives" become "zeroes"? Hmmm... Guess we'll find out as the series progresses. Looking forward to the rest of the series, which I hope will be released sooner, than later. Also, I enjoyed the cross over with the Gifted series of L.A. Story. Be nice if more of her work were made available on the Nook. :)
This book takes place one year after the first book ended. It takes up the story when Luke's wife, Gina, finds herself on her last appointed day to live. If Luke can keep her safe, they could have forever together. If he can't, she dies and he lives his immortality without her.
This third in the Day Zero series is the best yet. I am intrigued by the author's style, the characters, the plot and the author's twist on death and afterlife. I am so looking forward to the next release.
Lightning Struck Twice! Once again, BJ Hyman has managed to bring back the strange and desolate immortals who have lived past their "Day Zero" with "Lightning: The Book of Luke and Gina." It is fast-paced, but still makes time for a compelling story of Luke and Gina and their steadfast love for each other. Their choices are potentially heart-breaking ... As Lightning Luke's story isn't enough, Hyman fills you in on what is going on with the unbelievable malevolent Reuben and introduces you to yet another villain with a strange and twisted agenda - enter Gable. The tension mounts all the way to the end and leaves you anxious for the next book, but while still leaving you with a satisfying story in the meantime! I give it a thumbs up!
I really enjoyed reading Luke and Gina’s story in the second installment of the Day Zero series. It’s more than just about finding lost loved ones, it’s about a choices and how those choices can change everything. With this one, there’s a lot of action which kept me on my toes more than once, and there’s some twists that I never saw coming. Lightening definitely kept my interest and I really enjoyed how this one was laid out. Not only did I get Luke and Gina’s POV, but there’s also other POVs that make the story so much better. I’ve always loved getting different sides to a book and seeing how everything will turn out. I would recommend reading the first in the series before picking this one up and I’m glad I had read it before. I will also say I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen with the next book in the series. Honestly, I feel like there’s going to be something major to happen because so many things I didn’t see coming happened. I won’t say because I don’t do spoilers, but I definitely will be on the lookout for book three.
